About Job:

Functions primarily as a Technical Instructor for Wavetra Energy Academy or as a technical specialist or in a lead role. Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems. May provide technical guidance/training over a group or supervise engineering staff on projects of low to medium complexity. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.
Assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. May perform minor electrical work such as current checks.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
This position may involve a wide variety of diverse assignments, including:

• Lead and contribute to projects for solar resource assessments, energy production estimates, performance assessments of operating projects, siting, performance testing, feasibility studies, new technology evaluation, component modeling, conceptual design, and strategic planning.

• Provide expert consultation on solar PV plant components such as modules, inverters, meteorological stations, and trackers.

• Assist with solar PV design optimization for cost reduction and performance improvement, including for engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects.

• Contribute to business development with key clients including identification of key drivers, scoping, proposal development, and relationship management.

• The position will also include exposure to other renewable technologies: biomass, wind, geothermal, hydro, etc.

Through own knowledge and design, coordinate and lead training programs (outsourced or in-house) for on-boarding of our independent contractors/channel partners who are or want to become successful solar installation companies.
• With excellence in detail and design, develop and deliver high-impact learning through utilization of multi-media approaches to maximize participation, effectiveness, comprehension and application.
• Create comprehensive, brilliant, yet simple training presentation materials including facilitator guides, participant guides, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, games, assessments, etc.
• Successfully navigate the important and complex relationships with our partners, which includes effectively mentoring individuals from executive staff to field personnel on various matters from financial statements and cash flow management to technical aspects of our products.
• Assess instructional effectiveness and summarize evaluation reports determining the impact of training through KPIs assessed in training exit interviews our testing.
• Partner with senior level internal stakeholders and liaise with subject matter experts regarding instructional design results.
• Maintain updated curriculum database and training records approach and details.
• Bachelor Degree in a technical field, or experience in building and delivering training

In today’s Wavetra Energy blog post, we present to you what to consider before switching to solar electricity power in Nigeria. Alternative energy and especially solar power has become popular all over the world and even here in Nigeria. Have you ever thought of generating your own electricity anywhere in Nigeria? Yes you can do this using the popular power generator set powered by fossil fuel. But there is an alternative to this as you already know and in this article we will not just discuss alternative energy solutions for you in Nigeria but specifically solar electricity power.

You have probably heard of solar power and I know you are considering switching at least part of your electricity source. So this write up will not focus on reasons you should go solar, but on the factors you must consider before finally going solar or installing those panels on your roof or else where.

Now let us go straight to the points. I will list them first after which I provide more information on each point.

4 factors to consider before switching to solar electricity power in Nigeria:

1. Where to install the solar panels
2. The loads or electrical appliances you want to power with solar
3. Your budget: How much you are willing to pay
4. Availability of power from the grid (NEPA) in your area.

Now let me break down the points I enumerated above.
Where to install the solar panels:

First thing you need to check if you have adequate space to install/mount the solar panels. Are you the owner of the building? Will you need permission from the landlord before installing the panels? Is your roof shaded by another building or tree so that it doesn’t have good exposure to sunlight? You need to answer these questions first before taking any other step.

Now if you do not have have enough space on your roof, the solar panels can be mounted on the ground instead. You can look at our portfolio to see some of the installations carried out by Wavetra Energy. This will give you insight on what the panels will look like on your roof. If you already know your roof size and how many solar panels you need for your load, then you can roughly estimate if the panels will fit on your roof. Use the dimension below for your rough calculation.

Approximate size of 250W and above solar panels: approximately 6 inches long and 6 inches wide.

Lastly you may also use only inverter system if there is no space for solar panels.

The loads or electrical appliances you want to power with solar:

Now this is also very important. What exactly do you want to power? Which load exactly do you really want to power? The reason for this is because when you go solar, you always have to bear in mind that you now generate your own power. The implication of this is that the more electrical appliances you decide to put on the inverter system, the more money you will spend to get the equivalent battery sizing and other components. This might be a huge investment in millions or far less depending on your load size.

Also this is where a good solar installation company comes in. Availability of power from the grid (NEPA):

The availability of power in your area is the last but not the least. So no matter how steady your power is, you can still go solar. But you have to know that going solar is most optional for areas that have steady power supply. For such people, the number of panels required will be minimal. For off-grid or near off-grid solutions, you should be ready to get more panels. Anything less than the recommended number will not work effectively and may make you think that solar is not good for you.
