Good one. Thankyou. bigtt76: Rebook same room on Airbnb at least a week before you run out of your current booking and call the owner. That's what I did. Airbnb discounts you if stay in for long too. |

Interesting. I wish to find an air bnb owner like that gergemam: I had similar experience too, switched in between Airbnb and Hotel. My last Airbnb owner was kind enough to keep canceling booking appointments to extend our stay while we go house hunting. The guy nah real gem. |

Ok I have widened. Will keep trying Solumtoya: Widen your search to Newport, Swindon and even Bath. Bristol is one of the most difficult to get accommodation for a new immigrant family. |

Thank youfor this. Chreze: This has been an issue for some time now. What I did in this situation was to talk to the Airbnb owner to convert us to tenant for a 6 months period. This was a lot easier then and my then landlord accepted immediately cos it was that hot covid time. He had I believe 3 flats that were not making him a dime.
Maybe try to chat with the property owner to see if he/she can accept that offer. Mind you, this won’t be same price as what the apartment will go for rent, but it will be better than the Airbnb price. Then you try to intensify your house hunt and maybe consider other locations (like small villages close to the city).
Note: most Airbnb owners wont accept this kind of offer now as it’s not of benefit to them, But there are some with human compassion that will consider your family for this. Especially, owners that do travel abroad themself and know how life can be challenging for a family in a new city.
Roll the dice. Good luck |

Life of an immigrant in the UK. Please how do you guys get accommodation? I came in as a dependent on student visa. We are in Bristol and have lived in hotels and air bnb which has drained our finance. Been difficult getting accommodation for 4 (2 children) It's either they are asking for me to already have a job, or rejecting families, children etc, moreso, the demand for house here is high. So they quickly get or choose other tenants. I have called, met and seen several agents. Also, several rent sites. Please can anyone help or give direction/ advice. |

Good info. Thank you. Congratulations and enjoy your stay. Stivinmesi: My Sojourn to UK and POE Experience
Yho guys, I am presently in the UK.
I boarded Ethiopian Airline from Abuja. 2 Travelling Bags (23Kg each), one hand luggage (7Kg) , my Laptop Bag.
I wore two sweaters , one Winter Jacket and held the other Jacket just to reduce the scaled KG.
One of my 23Kg bags contained my clothes, shoes and the other 23Kg bag contained food stuffs and drugs (I bought different antibiotics as it is expensive in the UK and other drugs like Vitamin D(because of lack of sunlight), Paracetamol etc).
Ethiopian Airline is cool (5 hours stop over) but I will have loved to follow Egypt Airline (12 hours stop over but hotel accommodation and good food .
I choosed to travel weekend because I envisaged a good number will go for that option and so the Immigration Officers won't have the time to ask lots of questions.
Also the immigration officers In Abuja didn't give me headache, one even advised I use POS to deposit the Naira left with me since the old Naira will be out of circulation this year.
Journey started from Abuja to Addis Ababa. We waited for close to 7 hours before boarding the flight to London.
At Hearthrow Airport, my POE went this way:
1. Officer : What's your purpose in the UK Me : For Study
2. Officer: What is your course of study Me : I told him and also mentioned the name of my University.
3. Officer : Are you a new student ? Me : Yes
4. Officer : Place your thumb over there. Then be stamped it.
PS : 1. Keep a smiling face when approaching any official you encounter in the course of your traveling. Also say hello when you approach them.
2. Your major hurdle is to carry those bags to any of the Airports in Nigeria. Once you have boarded, you shouldn't face any major challenge WRT that. There is a Bus station at the Airport and you can carry your luggage using Trolley.
3. There are ATM machines at the airport where you can withdraw pounds with your dollar card.
4. You will enjoy Free WiFi both at Ethiopia Airport and Hearthrow Airport.
5. Make plans for accomodation before leaving so as not to get stranded.
I wish you all luck .
The land of UK will favour us. |

Yes! Good news everywhere.
Collection at TLS Ikeja on certain days not funny, as you will queue under the sun for hours (today is an example) except you sort those luring you with fast track. I recommend you use courier if you can afford it, otherwise, get there early - like 8am to 8.30am.
All have really been helpful here. Kudos to you all (even from the questions asked here, I learnt and the honest answers)
Please, can one travel with visa already on passport but no BRP mail yet any issue with that at POE? Anyone with accommodation advise / support (location is Bristol)? |
