Please who knows dollar exchange rate today?
The naira dropped further to 242.5 against the United States dollar at the parallel market on Wednesday as artificial scarcity of the greenback continue to batter the black market, three weeks after the Central Bank of Nigeria restricted the sales of foreign exchange to importers. The naira, which hit 240 against the US currency on Friday, dropped to 241 on Monday.Foreign exchange dealers said the naira weakened to a newlow of 242.5 on Wednesday as dollar shortages continued. The Acting President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said he expected the CBN to introduce some measures next week to curb the naira slide.“I believe the CBN will introduce some measures next week to stop the trend, otherwise the naira may hit 250 or even 270 later,” he said.Reutersreported that the CBN sold $80m to BDCs on Wednesday at N196.95 and fixed a spread at which they could resell the dollars of not more than 3.5 per cent to its clearing rate, quoting Gwadabe. On the official interbank market, the naira ended at the central bank’s pegged rate of 196.95 to the dollar.

it amuses me when I read comments about the market bouncing back very soon.

The bottomline is the both PDP and APC has lavished the nation's treasury on their selfish campaign now the oil revenue they were hoping to recoup their investments from is not forthcoming.

To the extent FG have to deep hands into the NLGN fund and pulled $2.1billion to bailout states just for payment of pending salaries not even for infrastructures.

Oshiomole on the hand is busy fight Iweala bcuz she didn't approve a certain loan for his state.

Emeliefe on his own side is claiming the reserve is now growing in leaps and bound while CBN can no longer defend the NAIRA which lead to the free fall.

Now tell me who is deceiving who?

The major reasons Pa. MB is not in a hurry to appoint his cabinet due to lack fund.

I ve said it countless times that the only way forward for Nigeria is AGRICULTURE so it's better Nigeria and Nigerians wake to reality and stop living in fool's. paradise.

By NOVEMBER some of the things I'm seeing now will be made manifest.

It is not that serious. Anyone with good intentions of transacting business in dollars should go through the CBN official rate. I can confirm to you that i bought dollars at the rate of 198.45(naira) each from a bank. Since the purpose is best for our business community, nothing will stop the bank from selling it at official rate. Let's stop deceiving ourselves by looking at this parallel market. If foreign investors are coming to do legitimate business in Nigeria, i believe CBN will welcome them with open hand with reference to our official exchange rate. It is high time we stop them from taken advantage of our situations... grin
The naira has hit another record low of 240 to the dollar at the black market, as the scarcity of the dollar persisted yesterday Daily Trust Saturday can revealed.A trader in Lagos, Shehu Aliyu told Daily Trust Saturday that the unprecedented slump was as a result of the scarcity foreign exchange that hit banks and Bureaux de Change in the key markets of Lagos and Abuja. This is the first time the naira dropped this low against the dollar. On Thursday the naira exchanged at 237 to a dollar before the end of trading yesterday the currency dropped by N3 in Abuja. Some traders attributed the drop to the new Central Bank ofNigeria (CBN) policy that banned about 41 items from sourcing forex in the local market. Some of the major importers are now scrambling to source dollars by any means which resulted to the scarcity of forexin the markets, dealers said. Before the CBN fore restriction last month, the naira stabilised at N223/dollar in the black market and N197/dollar at the interbank market.

Question is when will the coast get clear? No one can time the mkt. By d time u consider the coast to be clear the MKT will HV gone up to a reasonable extent at which u ,ll consider to be a little bit expensive n u be like if I had known! Truth is if u compare d % u'll gain on MKT recovery with percentage u all gain on having d green back until naira gets right , u'll find out that MKT recovery will give u like 50-100% while u may not even HV up to 10% with d green back possession. It happened during pre election/ post election period which was even worse dan now. So its a question of which investment will pay u more.

Well the coast will start getting clear immediately CBN devalues NAIRA or revert the new rules against dollar withdraw abroad.

For now the foreign investors are on the sidelines.

Would the CBN devalue the naira more? I doubt it- would the government inject money to create trade - any right thing government would tow that line* which area's would they put that money into? That's what we should look out forhuh Where is the money going to come from? Sales of crude oil - I doubt it! Taxes yes! And processed sales of petrol in nigeria- from our refineries - would it happen in the shortest possible time NO! How long 2years - what would happen to major oil marketers, clauses would be used by government to look into their activities of sabotage, so what would happen, di-vestment - I was just painting a scenario, we can never run a floating currency- because these bureau dey change people that have dollars stored in their toilet and bedrooms would make sure it clocks N1000- for their greedy interest and that would affect all industries and spending- salaries wouldn't be enough to buy a bag of pure water* so I doubt they would relinquish the peg - rather they would tighten it and force those storing dollars at home to bring it out by force- just thinking aloud*
Why do you think BDC people will bring out their dollar when CBN is putting more restrictions on it ?grin that's simply tells you that NAIRA rate is not yet right.

Well some of this scenario you painted is what will make the market to suffer and plunge below 25000 basis point.

Presently crude is failing and whenever that happens dollar gets stronger.

So the best asset for now is the GREENBACK till the coast gets clear.

The market has been in bearish mood for couple of weeks back, but have you asked yourself the opportunity this portend for you and me in the short and long term?.

All I can say is some stocks are grossly barted and have a stong tendency of moving aggressively northward, when the bull takes over again.
Skye bank is one of those stocks ,because after full consolidation of Skye and mainstreet banks' accounts, you will see a very big bank that the valuation will definitely be greater than #3.

I have been buying Skye bank shares cos history is about to repeat itself, going by what happened to access bank after acquiring intercontinental bank.

I have premonition that the lull and unpredictable nature of the market will continue till next six months maybe. The present government has an uphill task to battle endemic corruption, suffocate and stifle to political oblivion those who have been corrupting the system.
A Lot of state properties and resources are in the private enclave. This will take buhari at least six months to recover. Investors are very caution and never want to invest in the situation of uncertainty to avoid losing their money, hence the lull in the market. I personally expect more melt down in the stock market as some corrupt politicians will sell off their stock to pay off their loan to avoid their names being made public by banks in August as directed by CBN. Government might resort to selling off the properties ( including stocks) of political looters to recover the stolen funds from government. In the main time, we are still watching to see the unfolding of political fight for survival which must have devastating effect on stock exchange mkt.
And that's exactly what will happen. I said it sometime ago that if you are not in for a long term i.e 4yrs above.

Then better sell off your holdings and go in Agricultural and food related ventures.

Bcuz presently the Nigeria economy is nothing to write home about and very soon a lot of pigs will get slaughtered. he that has ears let him hear.

Buhari himself slow down the whole bullish momentum..............Imagine no tangible appointment or economic path.........Is like we don't have a leader yet and you expect market player with huge fund to trade blindly..........I believe in a week or two, things will start to fall into places...........
For now even if Buhari appoints all his cabinet members from West Germany including President Mitchell as chief of staffs, it will no longer cause any rally.

Believe it or not globally after the full year and 1st quarter results which normally rolls in from Jan to April and cause market uproar.

From May to September market correction/ lack lustre sets in due to some factors like Summer holidays, Raining season, Moslem fasting and New acedemic year School fees.

Then from October 3rdquarter results will kind of resurrect the market.
