manie: I do not think this is inside trading, if you know how to calculate the intrinsic value of stocks you will know that UBA was undervalued at N2.50k even at the current price of N8.30 it is still undervalued. The stock should not be selling for anything less than N10.00.It may or may not be insider trading. However, what is insider trading? Definition of 'Insider Trading' The buying or selling of a security by someone who has access to material, nonpublic information about the security. Investopedia explains 'Insider Trading' Insider trading can be illegal or legal depending on when the insider makes the trade: it is illegal when the material information is still nonpublic--trading while having special knowledge is unfair to other investors who don't have access to such knowledge. Illegal insider trading therefore includes tipping others when you have any sort of nonpublic information. Directors are not the only ones who have the potential to be convicted of insider trading. People such as brokers and even family members can be guilty. Insider trading is legal once the material information has been made public, at which time the insider has no direct advantage over other investors. The SEC, however, still requires all insiders to report all their transactions. So, as insiders have an insight into the workings of their company, it may be wise for an investor to look at these reports to see how insiders are legally trading their stock. source: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/insidertrading.asp |
johnie: I am even wondering if there isn't insider trading involved given that he works with UBA Capital and "made" all that money from UBA stocks.Insider trading? Plausible. The OP should be discreet next time. |
As for the country home project, i need people to understand this. Building at home only has a social value and nothing more.Hence the need to build a rental property before any country/village home. For some people building at home have cost them their lives or misfortune. |
Hype it, then when it becomes hot, dump it. It's nothing but a hype and dump thingz, it's an ageless, well practiced system of hyping stocks. And trust me, it's gonna work, because there will always be suckers. How could shares you bought with N4,000,000.00 in 2012 pay you a dividend of 702k in 2013? How much did UBA declare as dividend? Please, people look before you leap because I know that so many people will be rushing off to buy UBA stocks after reading this clever advert. DON'T BE A FOOL!
It will be foolish for anyone to do so. Though financial services stocks are very volatile, only a few have remained consistent (in terms of dividends and bonuses) such as GTB and FBN. |
O Greene: INVESTING IN STOCKS!!!! How do i know which companies to choose, the better rates, NSE, dividends,......etc. Someone pls fill me in, i need to understand this subject better bcoz am looking @ investing very soon. Oya!!!!!! teach me oooo. You must be objective (and fairly knowledgeable) in any investment decision you take. Get in touch with any reputable stock-broking firm and seek professional advise. However, if you must invest in the NSE as a novice, just make sure you only invest in stocks of a few multi-nationals such as: Guinness, Unilever, Cadbury and Nestle. These companies have good/strong corporate governance. You can start investing in other stocks once you fairly understand how the NSE works. |
caseless: And how are u sure north central will note vote somebody from core north? Have u forgotten they voted yaradua? To placate the core-North once again, GEJ will probably sacrifice (remove/replace) Sambo as his running mate for the 2015 elections and replace him with any of these governors: 1. Sokoto - Wamako ( surprised!) 2. Jigawa - Lamido ( surprised!) 3. Katsina - Shema 4. Bauchi - Yuguda 5. Any other cool headed governor from the core-North (NW or NE). These above mentioned governors will be given the right of first refusal simultaneously (confusing!) while he (GEJ) will promise to hand over to any of them come 2019. He will also promise the VP slot in 2019 to any PDP SE governor (making Rochas to likely return to PDP before/after the 2015 elections) in order for the SE to return to the pecking order of the presidency. The current major opposition (APC) unofficially headed by BAT will sellout their 2015 presidential ambition (discreetly once again) when the time comes. In Nigerian politics, personal/self interest and money comes first before religion, ethnicity, ideology, party affiliation, etc. I pity people who die over Nigerian politicians. These are likely (all things being equal) scenarios subject to change in the event of the death of any major political actor (remember Abacha and Yar' Adua). Real politics is negotiated by a few people. |
^ link/s to the thread pls
Just read through some threads. Fraudsters will not openly declare their intentions. Nauseating to say the least. |
Thirdly, he believes stocks like Zenith Bank, FBN, UBA, UBA Capital, Access Bank and ETI are currently undervalued, investing in this stocks should give an average dividend yield of 6.5% is over 700k and an upside potential of 30% to 40% that is 3.3 million Naira to 4.4 million Naira in the next 12 months.Step 1:He should simply invest as stated above and cash out before June 2014. Step 2:Then use the proceeds to fully build (within 6 months) his rental property in Lagos which should be ready by December 2014 as explained below; Secondly he has a fenced plot of land at Ajah, he stopped in 2009 at the foundation stage. He is considering using the 11 million Naira to build a moderately finished 2 units of three bedroom flats that will give a minimum rental income of 1.1 Million NairaStep 3: Use the rental income to reinvest in the NSE in the 1st/2nd quarter of 2015 (the NSE will definitely be bearish as a result of the 2015 elections). Step 4: He can now think of a country home once the market (NSE) becomes bullish again after the 2015 elections. |
Please kindly delete scam (ponzi, pyramid, etc) threads polluting this investment section. The investment section may also lose its appeal. Thank you. |
manie: Some of us like taking our destiny in our hands, I don't believe in blaming anybody for what ever happens to me. I do not own any mutual fund stocks nor invest in REIT and I have always gotten a better result in stock market and real estate investment compared to investors who allowed the Professionals to invest for them courtesy of mutual funds and REIT.It also depends on other factors such as the size of the portfolio, investment goals, time, etc. Real professionals are good at what they do despite some cases of professional negligence. Timely information is power. PS: I cannot advise individuals to invest in REIT in Nigeria because of its slow growth and low yield. These investments (REIT) are typically for institutional investors such as pension funds, mutual funds, etc. |
There is a reason (disclaimer) for insisting that investors seek sound professional advise before investing in some financial instruments. |
Real investment professionals can expand his investment portfolio while quacks will/may diminish his returns. Just use the analogy of the medical profession where quacks also abound. It will not be prudent to continue to self-medicate because of quack doctors. Let him do this: Split his investments into two (2) parts/portfolios. He handles one part while the professional freely handles the other part. He can then reach an objective conclusion on the matter based on the performance of each portfolio at specific intervals(periods) i.e quarterly, yearly, etc. However, some people feel very comfortable with their own decisions (irrespective of the outcome) when it comes to money (investment) matters. Different strokes for different folks. |
The federal government and its private investor partners may have concluded that the new national carrier, known as Nigeria One, would start operation with 50 aircraft that would be delivered before the end of next year. This is simply over-trading. Overtrading is a term in financial statement analysis. Overtrading often occurs when companies expand their own operations too quickly (aggressively).[1] Overtraded companies enter a negative cycle, where an increase in interest expenses negatively impacts net profit, which leads to lesser working capital, and that leads to increased borrowings, which in turn leads to more interest expenses and the cycle continues. Overtraded companies eventually face liquidity problems and/or run out of working capital. source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overtrading |
Lilimax: The Parade Commander invites the two presidents to inspect the guard of honour. They said that as a result of: 1. Mischief. 2. Ignorance +/- Arrogance. 3. Mis-information. 4. Blind-rage. 5. Hate 6. A combination of 1 - 5. |
naptu2: President Goodluck Jonathan was received by the Chinese President, Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of The People in Beijing today. Here are pictures of the event.A very good counter-thread. I guess the mischief makers have been silenced, the ignorant now educated and the mis-informed have now been informed. |
naptu2: The parade commander invites the two presidents to inspect the guard of honour during welcoming ceremonies at The Great Hall of The People. You have done well. It is quite amusing to see the level of deliberate mis-information and ignorance displayed. Mischief makers will continue to mislead many naive and ignorant people both online and offline just to ridicule their own president. Congrats to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. |
Similarly, Bosch also recently said it was exiting the solar energy market after suffering significant losses.I guess it is as a result of cheap imports (dumping) from China. I wonder why Bosch isn't in Nigeria. |
Nightshift: Yesterday, an oil refinery company in the South West city of Karlsruhe, said it's about to start building a 1,200 megawatts gas power plant near its headquarters.Germany is the power house of Europe. They intend to face-out the use of nuclear energy by 2020/2025 and make full (100%) use of renewable energy by 2050 while our leaders are fighting over the leadership of NGF and other mundane issues. |
Nightshift: That figure is only power generated from solar installations. The total power generations from nuclear, hydro, coal , gas, solar, etc in Germany are over 800,000 Megawatts! What Nigeria generates cannot power Munich or Stuttgart.Certainly our power generation, transmission and distribution system is dismal due to several years of neglect, corruption, lack of adequate funding, etc. A serious state/country cannot industrialise without adequate power infrastructure. Currently our national transmission system cannot handle more than about 5,000 megawatts, though the government seems to be working on improving the transmission infrastructure albeit slowly. |
23.9 Gigawatts = 23,900 Megawatts. ......and Nigeria struggles with 4,000 megawatts for 160 million people. |
ochejoseph: Look I have nothing to do with govt neither any member of my family , I criticise GEj when necessary but going forward u can't but commend this man for what he has achieved as I reply this post my generator is running yes NO Light but am aware that he has finally succeeded in privatising Nepa or PHCN and with transmission projects on course the president will be able to deliver power to us and am willing to trust this Man becos of the progress made thus far, I see the rice revolution with flooded plains transformed into expansive rice fields, I see the Good in Benin Ore road transformation ,progress on lokoja -Abuja and the beauty at the airports ,I know unemployment still high but and insecurity is a challenge. but is this man trying? my answer is YES HE ISI share your views as well. However he needs to work smarter, faster and harder as 2015 approaches to win the hearts and minds of non-partisan voters like me. I must commend his humble demeanour. |

Investment in fixed income market by foreign investors will continue to grow because we offer a higher return for now. However the naira will be automatically devalued if: 1. crude oil prices fall far below our 2013 budgeted benchmark of about $75 per barrel. 2. crude oil production drops drastically below our OPEC quota of about 2.5million barrels per day. The major reason amnesty was granted to the ND militants in 2007/2008 because of the disruption in our production quota and/or capacity to less than a million barrels per day. However it seems this have been replaced by brazen crude oil theft. Non oil exports needs to be deepened to avoid this over dependence on crude oil sales. However nobody seems to be asking about our revenue from LNG sales where we have a 49% stake via NNPC. |
It will certainly be postponed again. May be till the year 2020 or 2025 and beyond. The harmonization of monetary policies across board amongst the various ECOWAS countries is imperative. In particular, Nigeria, a major oil exporter, faces a very different pattern of terms of trade shocks than the other economies of the region. Moreover, existing internal trade among the region's countries is quite low, although there is undoubtedly considerable informal trade that is not recorded. The synchronization of the various VAT rates, custom and excise duties, inflation rate, convergence of CFA franc with ECO, political will (2015 election in Nigeria), consistent fiscal policies amongst ECOWAS members, etc must be achieved before any meaningful talk of a common currency in ECOWAS. |
“After about 15 minutes, the pilot explained that the man responsible for turning on the back-up power unit was about 10-15 minutes from the airport and had been reached. Another 15 or so minutes later, we were told the man has arrived, that power would come on shortly and that we should expect to be down on the ground in Uyo in about 10 minutes. “Shortly thereafter, the pilot told us the keys to the power source for the alternative power unit were nowhere to be found and the tower had told him they could not power up for him to land The person in charge of the power supply locked the place but he was not supposed to lock the place. Are these stories for real? Hmmmm!!!! Is this how airports are operated in Nigeria. Are the generators not on standby mode? This must be a joke. |
According to the statement, with the loss of 1,598MW, the total power generation as of 2pm on Sunday is 2,290MW.This is really sad. 2,290MW for a country with a population of about 160M people while Municipalities in South Africa produced 2,400MW. |
How could the police allow theirVery sad. However they (Boko Haram) are a very local group with international affiliation. |
“Few days back I did approve the newThe result of quota system. However quota system should not be an excuse for mediocrity. |
Peterwins: "The Stone Age didn’t end for lack of stone, and the oil age will end long before the world runs out of oil." - former Saudi oil minister Sheik Ahmed Zaki YamaniThis quote by the former Saudi Oil Minister meant a lot amongst which are: 1. OPEC cannot hold the world hostage as per crude oil supply for too long. We have non-OPEC members such as Norway, Venezuela, etc. 2. Other non-oil producing/exporting countries will discover oil reserves. 3. There will be other alternatives to oil. Solar, wind and thermal power. Electric vehicles are also on the increase. 4. Technology will make unknown huge oil reserves to be discovered and explored in uncharted territories. 5. Technology will also make efficient use of oil such as vehicles with low fuel consumption. |
Good job madam. Quietly and tactically doing her job without fanfare. |

Therefore the reason for the end of the stone age was not scarcity. Therefore all resources are not scarce..." |
