Happy Birthday to Pastor E. A. Adeboye. May the favour of the Lord our GOD continue to rest upon you all the days of your life and fully establish the work of your hands for you (Psalm 90:17) in JESUS CHRIST name. Amen. |
Buuggz: hi people, I'm really in need of ur candid advice. i just graduated from university waiting for service, just discovered that i am pregnant for my boyfriend of three months. i told him that i am pregnant and he is saying he cannot afford a baby now because he wants to travel out of the country. i told him i cannot abort the pregnancy yet all he says is i should see it from his point of view. but i don't want to risk my life and at the same time he has little or no money, lives with his brother. right now i don't think he can afford a wedding and getting an accomodation. please what do i do...im confusedPlease do not abort the pregnancy because you may live to regret it for the rest of your life. Kindly inform your parents and his parents/family. You are old enough to start taking financial responsibility for yourself and your unborn child. Get off the mindset of "he has little or no money, he cannot afford a wedding, accommodation, etc". You should also make sure you serve in your state of residence to reduce the burden of serving far from home with a pregnancy. I pray that GOD will guide you in whatever decision you take. Abortion is not an option except if the pregnancy is a threat (medically) to your life. Take care, work hard and pray. |
The Nigeria economy will continue to be in danger as long as crude oil remains our major source of income and foreign exchange earnings. It's not rocket science. As a nation we never had and still do not have a robust mechanism against sudden drop in crude oil price. Our foreign reserve and the newly created Sovereign Wealth Fund is not robust enough. Crude oil producing Norway (with a population of less than 6 million) have a Sovereign wealth fund of over $700 billion, United Arab Emirates has over $600 billion in their SWF, tiny Kuwait has over $300 billion in SWF and Nigeria with over 160 million people has $1 billion in its SWF. So much stolen wealth, so much mismanagement, so much lies. |
An inspiring story of a great Nigerian. Can the FG name a Fed University after him? I knew him through the 10 naira note. With the one (1) naira note gone people may not remember Herbert Macaulay and the inevitable extinction of the five (5) naira (Abubakar Tafawa Balewa) and ten (10) naira (Alvan Ikoku) may further reduce the national consciousness of these great leaders. Iyaniwura keep up the good work. It gives this website some credibility. Cheers!!! |

trolling: anyone remembers simon templerThe return of the saint..... Wow! Only those who watched these old films/series can understand the nostalgic feeling. LTV 8 and NTA Channels 5 did a good job then. |
Whistle sweet. Teris burger. famous five (tv series) Tom Sawyer and the adventures of Huckleberry fin (tv series) |
mbhs139: i hate this programme like ...Can't stop laughing. I watched the show (Sunday Rendevous) back then. |
I expressed similar concern two years ago: https://www.nairaland.com/731115/nigerias-economic-financial-future-within However, individuals, families and business owners should take pro-active measures. Financial/economic boom and bust circles are inevitable but the negative effects of busts can be mitigated by taking some of these pro-active measures: 1. Save in foreign exchange (£,$,etc) - a measure against the constant devaluing of the Naira. 2. Strive to own your own house(s) - avoid paying rent in old age and possibly own a rental property. 3. Diversify your source of income if possible - a measure against a sudden loss of your only source of personal or business income. 4. Acquire more personal, financial and business skills. 5. Think - there was seven years of abundance in Egypt before the subsequent seven years of famine. |
I must commend the President for this reversal even though this is expected as a court have declared the name change illegal and not having gone through the proper process for such a name change. The reversal by GEJ is a welcome development in a country where absolute power corrupts absolutely. It takes maturity and humility to accept mistakes. GEJ has my support on this one. Good move Mr. President. |
Why is there so much superfluity of naughtiness in government these days? So much waste here and there as if there is no tomorrow. The good governance tour is not necessary especially when less than 10 States are "performing" in a country of 36 States. |
blank: I think its a way of keeping the kids in school for longer. When both parents work and return home by 7 or 8pm what time will they have to supervise homework, etc? Who will look after them when they return early?^^^^These are some of the reasons amongst others. However, parents should endeavour to know what best suits their child/children. Some kids need it, while others may not require extra lessons. |
As a result of an on-going debate: https://www.nairaland.com/1186556/man-insists-seeing-suitors-office What are your genuine reasons for background checks before marriage. True life story: A couple got married (court/white wedding) overseas only to get back to Nigeria (for a visit/their traditional marriage) to discover that they (couple) were blood relatives (their tradition/culture forbids blood relatives from getting married to each other). The lady was already pregnant and/or already had a child from the marriage. I really do not know what happened afterwards. It was a background check that revealed that they were blood relatives. |
The search light should be on everybody (both families). Marriage involves two persons / families (especially for those who believe in one man, one woman). The prospective father in-law (even though suspicious) should have been more covert than overt. Such fathers should also subject their daughter(s) to be investigated by their prospective in-laws to balance the equation. Some of them (fathers) may also be amazed by the outcome of such investigations on their daughters/family. |
troubledSoul: we've been married for four years nw and i must say dta wat my instincts tells me or rather his attitude towards me is dat he really dont care. You seem to be the one making it a do or die affair. You need to be very patient. Your comment, "he bought a car for me (not in my name)" speaks volumes of your personalty. I wanted to ignore this thread but when I read this comment I felt bad because he may have registered it in his name as an oversight. What if the car was bought on hire-purchase, yet you are screaming blue murder for a kind gesture. You need to check yourself. Concentrate on finishing your education and start earning an income for yourself even before you graduate. Your husband needs your support and not your unwarranted criticism. Have a good day. |
The introduction of cable cars in Lagos State is a welcome development. These are my thoughts on the proposed project: 1. Finance - Either a PPP arrangement or a fully private sector financed deal. 2. Safety - No means of transportation by land, sea and air is 100% safe. 3. Mass transit - It is not a mass transit system. However it is just another means of transportation amongst others. 4. Relevance - It will generate employment (construction & maintenance)opportunities, could be used for tourism, reduce emission of C02, ........... (fill in the blanks if you are in support of the project). 5. Electricity - Different power back-up systems in case of power outage. 6. Project Cost - It isn't charity. Return on investment must have been factored by the private investors. 7. Patronage - Demand would certainly overrun supply even if it is more expensive than other means of transportation. Compared to other great cities, we haven't seen anything yet. This is a small and good step. Ideas rules the world. |
The truth is relative. Nigeria's economy revolves around crude oil (but I wonder why there have not been a search light on how much we actually make on LNG) so expected/unexpected price distortions of crude oil can deplete our so called foreign reserves. |
Nobody is telling the truth. The economists and accountants will always differ on the interpretation of these figures. However, there was so much mismanagement in the past and in the present. |
ilugunboy: The report apparently didn't give a full picture ...It is indeed a biased report, capable of misleading feeble minds as it did not state all top military positions held by other regions or tribes. Even though I do not support President GEJ on some issues, I always view some criticisms of his administration as half truths and half lies. My advise for the President, is that he must approach all criticism with maturity, tact and wisdom. Even President Obama faces harsh criticism from FOX news media in the USA. The responses by Labaran Maku (Information Minister), Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe (spokesmen for the president) to critics are laced with a lot of childish tantrums. |
Take the case of mobile money. I was so optimistic about the potential huge success of mobile money in Nigeria until I read the mobile money policies introduced by the CBN. The CBN simply stifled a promising sub-sector of the financial and telecoms industry with a lot of conflicting and unrealistic policies. You simply cannot regulate financial and technological innovation with archaic policies. |
There is no big deal (nothing new) about this policy. It's just one of the numerous inconsistent policies of the CBN under sanusi. From the policy reversal of ATMs operated by banks outside their banking premises, controversial review of the currencies (notes and coins), sharia banking, etc. You will discover that the current CBN led by sanusi is always in a hurry to announce/execute some policies flawed by glaring mistakes. However, no policy is cast on stone. |
jidegirl12: Hehehe PeterwinsI am also tired and about to go to bed. I know you get my drift on this matter. I will not set-up a small business for someone else to manage because the probability of failure is very high especially without my direct supervision. Small businesses are better managed by their owners rather than some hired (and often envious) family members. |
Some successful capitalists are considered as "evil" because they do not consider their various investments as "help". They rather set-up some NGO to take care of that. |
jidegirl12: Can you imagine? That's exactly Peterwins perception of Help.....Wow !!There is certainly a misconception here. No wonder some businesses do not thrive too long because they are established based on sentimental (slipshod) reasons. Business is not charity and if established on a platform of "help" it should be considered as an "NGO". |
jidegirl12: How is that inaccurate ? Did he plan to make $500k without sweat? Was it his capital? Giving people money randomly is nothing but careless spending IMO.... it's more appreciated when they are part of making it.( even tho they still don't care)You don't agree and I am a bit confused. Is it because you consider your "business" as "help" or your "help" as "business". Kindly clarify. If you consider your "business" as "help" and remain passive then the active partners (family or foe) in the business will surely "help" themselves and ruin the "business". Treat your "business" as "business". |
Kobojunkie: It is "help" when you invest in a business for profit in order to provide employment/a way to make a living for any of the parties involved, even as you expect to benefit from the business through profits that are expected to come back to you as a result. jidegirl12: Peterwins o lol..... so you want me to ship 2 containers as gift to people before its considered as 'Help'? Are you kidding? If somebody sells a N2M vehicle and transferred N1.5 .... did he work for the 500k? Or you think I'm mumu .Shipping 2 containers of vehicles for resale is strictly business. The use of the word "help" is a misnomer in some examples/experiences stated. There is a clear difference between charity and business. Let us not mix them. For example, lending money to someone without interest can strictly be considered as "help" compared to lending money with interest. There is a need to put things in proper perspective. |
We should also note that the OP's experience is a mixed-grill of personal and business relationships. So a clear definition of the word "help" in this context should be taken into consideration. I may not consider as "helping someone" in a business where I invested to make a profit but I will consider it as "help" if I did it without any form of payback. |
Don't stop if you can help (have the means) but be more sensitive to people's requests so that they do not take you for granted. You cannot grant everyone's requests. You should also realise that one bad apple spoils the...... However do not let anyone's request rob you of your peace, wealth, happiness, kindheartedness, etc. I am still fond of helping people despite bad experiences which have taught me how to separate genuine requests from deceptive ones. Wish you all the best. |

The issue with debt is a double-edged sword. My major concern with the debts we secure as a nation is that the projects for which they are secured are highly over-inflated. The interest may be low as 2% but the cost of the (over-inflated) projects cancels the benefits of the low interest. However, Nigeria should learn from Greece and the USA :http://news.yahoo.com/us-national-debt-hits-16-trillion-republicans-blast-031301848.html (with a debt profile of about 16trillion dollars!!!!). |

you crack me up.... You think any sane human being will put all his eggs in one basket for another human being in another continent to watch? It's just a side thing not the real thing......but still come on now
