i can't agree more with ur submission! I mean, i can readily identify with it personally. I used to be an academic high-flyer throughout my secondary and university

days. It seemed that i thrived in excellence almost to the extent of perfectionism. All that was to change with my entrance into the corporate world, especially with my

present job! All too often I now find myself being comfortable with the sorrounding level of mediocrity. Everything now seems okay with me as long as my bank account

is credited accordingly. I easily blame the present staff on ground for the systemic decay while no longer seeing myself as a solution especially when colleagues

will not see reason with me on the need for for change sad. Truth is, I used to have great plans on how to positively affect any organisation I find myself in. I would go on and on with my friends about how I/we would strive to attain world class standards both as a person(s) and as part of a corporation. This tardiness has come to envelope not just my work life but  many other facets of my life

For example, I told myself a long time ago that the moment I'm able to acquire a desktop and sufficient funds, I will self-develop into a programmer to reckon with in

the country. Today I have a laptop with sexy specifications and the cash is the least of my problems. Sad to say, I am yet to even download the JDK for Java

programming! I always find myself procrastinating and procrastinating and procrastinating!!! Even with so much time on hand and internet connection, the bulk of my

time is usually spent on frivolities like sports, chatting etc. Even my addiction to nairaland is becoming unbecomingSimply put, my

commitment to excellence took a plunge! I'm still struggling to get back into gear at making things right wherever one finds oneself. NLNG is definitely not the matter.

Long before I even took the second test i had in mind that it may or may not work. In fact whether or whethern't, I'm cool!. Problem is discipline and phaps

motivation/inspiration is the missing ingredient

U see that's why I really really enjoyed ur post! I "gbadued" it.

keep it up!!!

As for NLNG,

let's hope for the best and plan for the worst   smiley

meanwhile, do this people ve plans of callin us this year or they plan to wait 4 nxt year?
i know for sure they will call us "soon."

The word "soon" is unfortunately relative in sense. It could mean a few days, a few weeks OR even a few months grin grin

Even the word "few" in the above context can be relative if u care. It could imply one, two . . . ten, . . . , twenty, . . ., etc cry cry

Methinks however that we can expect their call next month.\

good morning peeps. Hope u enjoyed ur wkends!!

Glad to see that peace is gradually returning to this thread. Methinks our ability to overcome hitches like these will only make us stronger. It kinda laces this forum with refreshing diversity. I only hope ppl wont be constrained from airing their views in future.

thought:
@mhm

Thanks for that info, I only hope that it is as you have said. Please could you help give us a hint or two of what it really feels like working for NLNG.

1) What do you like about it
2) What do you hate about it
3) What are the major challenges
4) How is the working environ ment and staff relationship
5) Do you think things are done by merit or otherwise

You could speak on anything else you wish we should know. How has the Niger Delta crises affected the job.
Please could help answer these questions. Thanks
yeah @mhm answers to these questions will be greatly appreciated. In fact a sixth and a seventh one!

6) Wot is the pay like? wink
7) What is the training like?, for whom, how, what, where etc?

and lots more!!

In addition can u give us the gist of the recruitment exercise during your time, especially post-assessment? In that way we can begin to have an idea on what to expect from now.

Thanks a lot in advance!!!!!!!!!!

Wish everyone a blissful wkend smiley smiley

@thought, i feel u broda,

I agree that the spirit in this thread is at a low ebb. I would av expected so many posts by now if only in reaction to Opoks' exit. Or r they sorting it out

behind the scenes (via phone calls/emails)? that would be nice smiley If so they can, at least, keep us abreast of

developments. Or could it be that they've all gone wit opoks cheesy? Where is Kuwena? Where is good old Adrian, our Minister of Defence? Where is Uche?

Where is tolagbaju? In fact, where is everybody sad sad huh? ? Please if it's because of NLNG's delay that u guys have gone on strike, be informed that

letters r out. I just got mine!!! i hope u don't believe that though! grin

But seriously i wonder why we should be reacting like this (if indeed it's because of the delay) seeing as it were that most peeps here r already working

and already have made or are making plan Bs, Cs etc. Moreso most guys here have professed faith in God that woteva the outcome, it's for the best!!ke

Please Winners, let's keep the spirit up!!!!

people of nairaland,

i beg to defer, the reason i come to this site on a daily basis is to get a glimpse of the mind of opokonwa for that day. it actually is quite refreshing, please lets not kill the spirit of the house.

@opoks, please keep the spirit up and keep writing, life is full of complexities and we cannot satisfy everybody, what we do is to arrive at a compromise, which would accommodate us all, please i would be disappointed if you step away at this time, when we need each other to keep the spirit up.

guys and girls, please join me in begging opoks to come back and keep feeding us with enough gist abeg.
thanks for supporting this passionate appeal, kuwena, i believe you should champion the clamor for the return of opokonwa.
I think that's a little over the board. We don't all have to beg Opoks to return. i miss him and wish he could reconsider but then that's his choice to make.

Afterall nobody asked him out in the first place. It's possible he got too bored with the thread to continue with it he once hinted as much

. Let's just say he's a rolling stone came in controversially and opted out in much thesame way :

@thought

I'm really really disturbed at the awkward way in which u entered this thread. It seems that u av been waiting on the sidelines for sometime nursing a

beef or two against opoks. U obviously saw an adversary bow out and u sound elated for it. I'm sure even Kuwena didn't mean to make Opoks leave the

thread. Or r u an impostor? undecided undecided huh

Pls realise that it's okay to join sides when a dispute is still under control. When it however goes out of hand, third parties should only strive to mend,

repair and rebuild and not to fan the embers of discord.

It's comparable to two guys having an argument which then degenerates into a fight with one of the combatants heading for a fatal wound. As a third

party u should first ensure peace, at least a ceasefire, before taking sides or apportioning blames.

SO PLEASE HELP FIX THIS HOUSE!!!!!

Thats the topmost priority now!

BusinessRe: University Or Business? by pgm(m): 4:04pm On Oct 16, 2007
i can't agree more with the opinion of some peeps here.
Some misguided and sometimes insecure dudes think that without a university education one is

incomplete as a person. Till this very moment I'm yet to see a single thing I gained  in the university (knowledge, exposure and all) which i couldn't

have obtained without it if only I meant to. I mean i could have read informative and educative books as much as i did the handouts given us by the

lecturers.  I don't have to go to a university to be able to read and understand a newspaper nor do i need it in order to think analytically and/or logically,

nor to express myself coherently. And what's the nonsense about being unable to understand "big big grammar." Apart from the fact that the use of the

word grammar is wrong here, suffice it to say that good diction, articulacy, coherence, fluency and what have you in a language such as English

has just about nothing to do with the university but rather your efforts, determination, talents, inclinations, environment etc.

History is replete with instances where people excelled in various disciplines without the "benefit" of university education.

We also have people who failed, as it were, even with all that university education had to offer them. There are exceptions to all these. Wot Í'm saying is

that people find fulfillment and success with or without university education!

Lecturers r ppl who perform the magic of doing the easiest of things while appearing to do something very very very hard and indispensable

Seeing the rate at which tempers are flying around, no thanks to okoroboy and his penchant for trouble, i suggest we declare a moratorium on posting

if only to calm fraying tempers. Phaps we can all go for the Sallah break. No posting till Monday!! We can alert Seun to delete any post made during this

period grinGod bless us the letters start arriving then! cry  Hopefully by the time we r back we will feel refreshed to either carry on fighting

to it's fullest or interact amicably

But seriously speaking
while i ll say controversy sure adds a great deal of spice to this thread, i must caution that taken to its limits, it becomes irritating! So

Okoroboy pls while u have a right to say wot u like, pls realise that your right ends at the very point where it begins to infringe on other ppl's rights and freedom.

And to adrianny, pls try and resist the urge to reply with full force to every assault. It's clear u've got quite a tempersomeone said it's tempestous but

please realise that there are times in which a failure to keep a rein on it could well see you playing into the hands of ppl trying to hoodwink u into unnecessary

wrangles.

So u guys should please sheathe the sword except of course u r both sure this thing won't get out of hand in which case u can go on entertaining us and for which

we will sure be grateful wink wink

trying so hard to catch up with this thread still short of breath

good evening people.
glad nobody really missed those of us who haven't posted for a long while.

opoks, adrianny, kenosky et al may God bless u all sincerely speaking or rather writing or better still posting for your posts.

I also like all the crazy things, the quarrels and so on that have been going on in this thread. It goes to show we r all humans posting and not just spamming! undecided tongue

Honestly if we were to relate for so long without a little misunderstanding once in a while one would be forced to wonder if we were robots! and i don't want to believe any of us is. definitely not after making it to this stage of NLNG recruitment

So it's all good.

So let's vent our anxieties/anger and perhaps even take out our frustrations, if any, on anything and anyone on this thread! Believe me itwill be worth our efforts!!!!!

therefore this is an open invitation to fight on this thread. We can start with verbal exchanges, then progress

gradually to oral exchangesafter we must have exchanged phone numbers and then advance/progress even further to arranging live meeting points where we can exchange real hot blows. in fact we can each beat the holy hell :Pout of each other.

Trust me at the end of all this we would have achieved so many things namely:

1. I bet some fellas will know for sureand in fact firsthand for that matter shocked which is mightier, the pen or the fist!!!!

2. we would have vented our anxieties and/or anger and/or frustrations!!we will sure be the better for it, everyone of us! grin

3. we would av carried out the obligation to exercise the body and mind as doctors recommend

4. who knows we might discover other talents amongst us which were hitherto untapped. for example we just might find out that some of us would do better as boxers like the nigerian Samuel Peters or as wrestlers in WWE rather than working for NLNGtalk about plan Bs grin

5. we would also cultivate increased respect for each other. i believe whoever gets the worst of each bout will seriously think twice before misyearning like i am doing right now at least for fear of getting another black eye tongue tongue. So in a way we would be promoting peace on this thread wink wink grin

6. we would also have attracted enough attention. Who knows, including NLNG's which might push them to respond with dispatch and send our letters.

7. some of us will have proven that they r indeed winners NLNGwise, INTELLECTUALwise, THREADwise, BOUTwise, BLOWwise etc the list is endless

In fact there is so much to gain from this suggestion. the above list of benefits is by no means exhaustive!!

Methinks the tone "You better Not Miss This " is definitely uncalled for. Besides what makes u think nairaland is for only young ppl and who gives a hoot if his ''ëxcellency" and the so-called "dignitaries" will be or will not be there?

Pls consider that I can "miss this" and still do much better things with my time. I can do without your one-night programme and still "become who I really want to be" that's if I'm not already one. It's also not impossible that I could attend the programme and leave there unchanged and in fact worse off.

All these r definite possibilities i.e. reasons why it may be good to "miss this"

But all said and done I just might attend and find it beneficial!

Stay blessed!!

I feel u but from my use of the collective pronouns, "we," "üs," etc., u ll see that i was referring to not just the leaders but evryone. Nor was I absolving myself of culpability. That is why I said something about everyone (myself inclusive) working towards a better society be it in our places of work, families or public service i.e. at all levels!

Cheers!!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Which Way Nlng? by pgm(m): 12:04pm On Sep 24, 2007
On a lighter note, I reallyam happy this morning. Among other reasons for this is the fact that my club put up a stellar performance last weekend. Which club u many ask? Barcelona, of course, them dey ask that one? cool. We got a deserving maximum points from no less a club as Sevilla who were expected to come smoking to kill after the embarrassment in the champions league clash in emirates stadium. Any other barca fan in this forum? It will be double 'winnership' or shall I say "winnerhood" ( English sef! No be small thing!! Adrianny I think I need ur help here  grin) because everybody in this forum that has gotten to this stage of the recruitment is a winner and for u to be a fan of a winning club, barcelona, it makes it oh so, so winnerly, and winnerful   grin grin

Not 4getting Arsenal who gave Derby such a thrashing as would av made even Hitler upset at the ruthlessness. Take am easy o Gunners! Truth is they r my club as far as EPL is concerned. I like clubs who play the attacking brand of football. Barcelona has gone past that and give not just attacking but fantasy football.

Funny how we consider ourselves a part and parcel of our favourite clubs even when we have nothing more in common than that we enjoy watching them do their thing. It's not uncommon to here or read "We played. . . . . ." or "When we buy so and so player. . . . " I have even used it in this post! U would think we were shareholders in the club in question" This applies to all, even the fair-weather fans. For instance, when u hear Chelsea fans talk so passionately about their club, u will wonder whether Roman Abrahamovich borrowed some money from them to effect his takeover of Chelsea!!

Talking about Chelsea, I wish all the NLNG winners who r Chelsea fans the strength to bear the loss of Mourinho and the defeat conceded to Man U last wkend. Take heart! It's "öne of those things"  grin grin Better luck next time as long as it's not with Barcelona or Arsenal!  grin

While we wait for NLNG, let's catch fun and indulge in other things to make the wait less arduous. Let's just say they don't have our time right now  grin grin Wot with the Literature events they ve been going on about.   huh  huh  grin

Anyhow, after much much, IT'S WELL!!! come wot may
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Which Way Nlng? by pgm(m): 11:08am On Sep 24, 2007
Good morning winners,
hope u all had a lovely wkend,

@adrianny,
how u dey broda, ur posts have neva ceased to impress me. The flow, the diction, the clarity, the , , are , to say the least, "something else." Indeed, there are lawyers, and then there are LAWYERS!!

I agree wit u that ultimately, to rise above the level of mediocrity in this rat race, one needs to hone his/her skills and talents and put them into greater, improved and more productive use. This is a call out to all the winners in this forum to, in addition to woteva NLNG has iin stock for us, give it a more serious thought, especially for the long term, the prospects that can accrue from exploiting our God-given endowments for the benefit of ourselves, our families, and ultimately humanity.

And talking about humanity, can we imagine wot our society would have been. if everybody had played his or her role/mandate (be it in the work place, family setting, and especially public and government office) "as unto God and not unto man"? Wot if our leaders had committed our resources into industrialization, economic empowerment, education etc (the list is endless) rather than amassing them for God-knows-who-or-what (perhaps for their 100th generation!),

One would be hard-pressed to find, today, a conscientious public officer who considers the ppl he is out there to serve ahead of his personal interests. We r everyday pelted with stories (beta still scandals) of our "leaders" committing outrageous monies for frivolities like house renovations, body massage purchases, etc (the list is also endless). The situation is no worse at the micro level comprising our individual public and personal lives. God help us!!!

A friend sent me a mail this morning. It had pictures of IBB's house, the attachments of some of which I have produced below

This is just a glimpse into the kind of money amassed by just one (only one out of so many!) of our "leaders." Perhaps if these ppl and we ourselves had played our parts well, we may not have been in this situation as we v today. phaps, just maybe, this NLNG job would not av meant so much to so many of us because there would av been so many such conducive working conditions in so many other LNG companies and so many other firms. Phaps we would have had NLNG recruiting so much more (say 500 or more) because then there would av been so much more need for a much greater expansion in a very active and thriving economy. Phaps there would av been no need for so many stages of recruitment and in fact this long wait because less ppl would av been constrained to apply since they are already gainfully employed elsewhere. Phaps , it beats the imagination

This should move us into praying more for our immediate society and humanity at large. While we wait on NLNG to be or not to be, let's pray to God for the society to be a better place for all of us winners in this forum, our friends and families and the entire human race. Let's do all we can to make this world a place where we can all start to LIVE (and not just exist) in joy and fulfillment beyond the rat race that has become the tragedy of modern society afterall "the thing about the rat race is that even if u win u remain a rat." We are more than this. We are winners! smiley

Cheers winners! shocked shocked smiley

Have a lovely week!! kiss

stay blessed!!!
