NRI PRIEST: Might you define Igbo and what makes one an "Igbo" ?
NRI PRIEST: Might you define Scandinavian and what makes one a "Scandinavian" ?
NRI PRIEST: Might you define Anglo-Celts and what makes one an "Anglo-Celts" ?
NRI PRIEST: Might you define Germanic and what makes one a "Germanic" ?
They all have the same answer so the answer you give to any one must be applicable to the answer you want applied to the term Igbo.

olisaokere: Young man just keep shut.Ika is an igbo dialect just like you have other igbo dialects from different igbo communities and states.
How can ika be a dialect of a language that was created?, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish are all different languages but you can confuse them of being dialects of each other. These same three languages have their own numerous dialects, so you guys should get over this superficial igbo language and igbo ethnic group, it does not exist and was only created for administrative purpose. Ika is an ethnic group and it has its own language that is made up of different dialects, do you think there is one Ika language that you erroneously think to be one dialect?.

Look there are different ethnic groups inside the term referred to as igbo and when Nigeria finally breaks up, they will go about their life as they wish and there will be nothing like one igbo country. I trust my Ndokwa people as we know what we want for Ourselves and not lumping ourselves with people that are different from us except for similarities in language. Norway, Denmark and Sweden should have formed one country if they were not sensible to do structure themselves in the right system. Get over the thought of having one igbo country that will include Ndokwa and Ika because that will never happen now or tomorrow.

Simply looking for land and resources to grab by shouting all over the place that Ika is igbo.
CultureRe: Why Do Edo People Speak Yoruba? by Pharoh: 8:33am On Dec 18, 2013
The languages are already classified in the ethnography and the ethnic groups are already classified in the Joshua project so i think what is needed is to study those two classification to gain full understanding.
CultureRe: The Official Ika Thread.(agbor,umunede,owa.etc) Alua Ni by Pharoh: 5:13pm On Dec 17, 2013
How can Ika be igboid and at the same time still be a dialect of igbo language, the same igbo language that was created by the British colonialist. grin

Ika is an igboid language that has its own dialects and it is a separate and distinct language on its own so it is never a dialect of igbo language. The created igbo language is an igboid language just like Ika so there is no way that Ika is a dialect of igbo language, it is good that the lectures from the delta thread is sinking into some brains.

CultureRe: Why Do Edo People Speak Yoruba? by Pharoh: 5:01pm On Dec 17, 2013
It is very surprising to me that some people will talk about igbo languages here on this thread and keep shouting about igbo dialects in another thread. grin

@Macof

The languages doesn't have to be similar or the people for them to form a union in post Nigeria and even if they do not form, i believe the relationship between Yoruba and edo will be good and beneficial.

Dismantle the states and make the local governments the federating units and let them form loose regional affiliations for joint cooperation. This will eliminate the three big groups fighting each other.

It is good to discuss this now and plan for the future because it is important to know the position of every potential ethnic groups before that day comes. I am not yoruba but would not mind offering my advice if needed or you hope to discuss with only the ethnic groups that make up the yoruboid nation etc.
CultureRe: Who Is An Igbo/what Makes Someone An Igbo? by Pharoh: 5:39pm On Dec 12, 2013
Being igbo is a consciousness and not something you carry in your head everyday because you have to live your life based on your ethnic group identity and language. This is how it is done all over the world but because of the peculiarities of one Nigeria and the politics of population then shouting igbo everywhere becomes a do or die affair for some people.

Keep the top 40 in the premier league and take the top ten from the champions league to make it 50. Let the leagues be in multiple of 50 because after all it doesn't look like all the top 50 players will be here to discuss the league. grin

Please listen to the voice of a yoruba man that is telling you that ekiti is not a dialect of the yoruba language.

macof: Am nt claiming edo people.

Edo are not Yoruba yes
In the same logic non-Oyo people are not Yoruba

We Ekiti choose to be referred as Yoruba not because we are Yoruba but for the sake of "oneness"

CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by Pharoh: 11:11am On Dec 11, 2013
Afam4eva: I think the only reason why this argument is moving non-stop is because you guys have always put Anioma in one bracket. We have to speak on the specific groups that makeup Anioma or Delta-Igbo. The Aniocha people don't have a problem with their Igbo identity. Those that deny their Igbo identity from Aniocha are in the minority. It's mostly people from Ika and Ukwuani that have a problem with the Igbo identity but there are still people from those parts who are proud Igbop and right here in the forum, we have the likes of One_Naira, wesley, Ify_angela etc. I think we should seize from describing Igboship from a territorial point of view but from a personal point of view. There are proud Igbos in ikwerre, ika, Ukwuani, Ndoni etc and also people who don't see themselves as Igbos.
This post sums it all up except the part of locating where majority is and where the minority proponent is but i consign this post fully. Those who claim to be non igbos from ukwuani and Ika have absolutely nothing against igbo people and see them as brothers so there is no strife at all. Those that want to live their life as ukwuani, anioma, igbo or Ika are free to do so and it doesn't stop or affect the brotherhood that exist between them. No ukwuani man has ever told an aniocha man that he is not igbo, we respect their choice as long as they respect our own choice too, life is about live and let live. Well with this your all encompassing post, there is nothing much to say here and those who are still troubled by their ignorance can carry on with the campaign.

CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by Pharoh: 6:27am On Dec 11, 2013
This is a recent research from an academic who i believe is from south eastern Nigeria and she has accurately divided the so called igbo nationality into its constituent units that breaks down to 14 different groups. Each of this groups are separate languages and is the basis for forming separate ethnic groups unlike the notion that igbo is one ethnic group and over 800 laughable dialects.

http://www.rogerblench.info/Language/Niger-Congo/VN/Igboid/Comparative%20Igboid%20complete.pdf

The other research that divided them into five cluster group should be the basis for forming autonomous states or regions and this is a clear indication that the anioma movement is valid as it was rightly identified as western igbo from that research.
CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by Pharoh: 6:24am On Dec 11, 2013
Andre Uweh: Your post above shows that you have not read through this this thread from the mmalite. Ikas who are proud Igbo have bben here long and made their mark unlike your hero who has for the past one year been repeating himself. Very shameful.
They made marks that could not convince people on the other side of the fence and to me this is very far reaching. The same reason that they are not here anymore is the same reason that you should not be here anymore. It has become pointless really and to think you guys have dragged it on to over 100 pages and still counting on is very shameful.

One thing that is clear is that you guys are very ignorant of the whole igbo issue and not so conversant with recent research that has helped to identify the ethnic groups in the igbo nationality. You guys will be grateful to the people you are castigating here in the future when your eyes become opened. This was how a yoruba clearly told those arguing with him that there is nothing like dialect of the yoruba language as you guys have been made to believe.

There is nothing like dialect of the igbo language, Nsukka, owerre, Ika, Ukwuani are all separate languages and separate ethnic groups. Please you guys should stop embarrassing yourselves, pick up research papers and be conversant with the whole igbo issue.
CultureRe: Why Do Edo People Speak Yoruba? by Pharoh: 12:59am On Dec 11, 2013
This is the same mistake they were making in the delta-igbo thread and i have tried to correct the notion tirelessly but the desire to believe in one indivisible igbo ethnic group is the stumbling block to understanding what macof just explained there. It is totally impossible for a language to have over 800 dialects as this shows lack of development, organization and distinction.

I have always corrected this wrong notion that ijebu, ekiti and all that are not dialect of yoruba language but a different language on their own. They are a different ethnic group on their own but agree to come together under the yoruba nationality as this identity is just used to show oneness as macof have explained. This identity is not so important if there is no fairness or equity inside the group and this will push the group to pursue separate aspirations on their own. Th yorubas might have passed that stage of separateness as a result of the yoruba civil war and the bondness that they have developed inside of one Nigeria so i trust them to sort their issues in a yoruba only nation.

The first research into the igbo identity just hurriedly created a central igbo language and said all the others are a dialect of it but this is very false. There has been a lot of research and this has lead to the better classification into igboid languages and the demarcation is the basis of forming ethnic groups like you have ekiti being an ethnic group on its own but made up of three tribes and associated clans. The igbos east of the Niger are the only ones without clear demarcations in the igboid family but a new research just published last month divided the igboid languages into 15 groups. The nsukka and owerre that they wrongly call a dialect is actually an ethnic group and rightly a language on its own but they will still insist on calling it a dialect.

A dialect of a language is common and unique to the clans that make up that particular tribe, this is what i have been explaining to them and rightly what you have just explained. The ndokwa or ukwuani-aboh is an ethnic group that is made up of two distinct tribe, the first tribe is the ukwuani tribe and the other tribe is the aboh tribe. They all speak ukwuani language but in three different dialects, the ukwuani tribe uses ukwuani dialect, while the aboh tribe uses the aboh and ndoni dialect. There are 37 clans between this two tribes and i don't know why people will now say ukwuani is a dialect of igbo language. Ukwuani people are just part of the igbo nationality to show oneness and this does not mean that they are of the same ethnic group.

CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by Pharoh: 8:44pm On Dec 10, 2013
agbotaen: 1. for igbo propagandists on this net , ika nation has never claimed that they are benin people and neither have we claimed to be igbos , it is igbos that are making claims as to why they believe ika is igbo or should be igbo.
2. ika nation is an ethnic group just like igbo or yoruba we are not igbo and we are not benin , we are ika, i always repeat this fact but it seems many igbos are daft or just plain ignorant , and your hatred of benin will do you know good , as benin empire has more recognition than any igbo kingdo or community , so please learn to respect people
I don't know why the highlighted facts above always eludes you guys and if there are actually people from Ika nation that claims to igbo then let them come to this thread to defend themselves. Why are people who are not from Ika land so concerned about Ika people, leave the Ikas who claim to be igbos to defend themselves while you mind your business.

That is how someone claim that it is only the ones who deny their igbo identity that you will find on facebook and other created groups. So i ask that if they are in minority then is it not a shame that that the majority who claim to be igbos cannot even create a facebook page and claim that aniomas are igbos. All the groups you see on facebook and all over the internet always claim pro anioma, pro Ika and Pro ndokwa so where is this fathom aniomas that claim to be igbos. Why don't you ask those that claim that they are from anioma and igbos to tell you which online groups they belong to that claim to be igbos.

Stop the obsession with anioma people and let them be, let them decide whatever they want to be and you guys should mind your business seriously. You don't see yoruba people getting obsessed about their brothers in delta, kwara or kogi but it is different from you guys and i just wonder why.

ComputersRe: Nigerians In Diaspora To Produce Computers In Local Languages by Pharoh: 3:20pm On Dec 10, 2013
This is far fetched as you only need to have the input device like keyboard and keypads in your native language and make sure the software or operating system is in your language. What they actually need to do is to write software, systems and operating systems in our language and develop input device that is centric to our local languages.

There is no fallacy there as i have told you that both were practiced in Ndokwa land and it is this fact i am pointing to that there is nothing east of the Niger that was better than what we had. This is why i said it is not a dick measuring contest because you have nothing to prove to me like i have nothing to prove to you too. You guys always make derogatory remarks about us and you have to take my remarks in that context too and if you go back to my original post, you will see that i was laughing. There would have been no need for this kind of remarks if you people respect the wish of others because left to we ndokwas we got no problem with anybody.

Except for few examples like the aboh kingdom, aros etc, both sides were practically at the same level because there was nothing like one big organized igbo group at that point in time. I am referring to ethnic grouping during this period because the aros went about their life as aro people before the whiteman came with the igbo identity and this gives the foundation to claim a southeastern society. Despite all these you can claim nri and aro to be greater while i can claim mine to be better. This is why i said it is not a dick measuring contest because if not we will just go on and on from pages to pages but take it as a jibe and leave it there.

pokur: I did say he would dodge the question, didn't I?.
Btw @Pharoh,since you've shown you know next to nothing about the social structure n organization of Igbo tribes east of the Niger,I would advise u educate yourself ere u keep making a show of urself. If memory serves right, there's a recent thread on Oka,its history, structure n organization here in nairaland's culture section. Its not that comprehensive, but it would be a nice place as any to start ur education. Like u said,it's not a dick measuring contest.Believe me,that of ur area is but a very tiny weeny compared to what obtain east of the Niger.
So what do you know about the Ndokwa people history, structure and organization to make such a remark?. If it is tiny to what is obtained east of the Niger then you should be proud to stick to that instead of disturbing other people to identify with you. It might be tiny to you but we are proud of it, we will stick to it and will not give it up for any rubbish you have east of the Niger. You guys should be concerned about your igboland because even if you gain your independence from Nigeria today, you will still not not develop to your real potential because of this same lack of social development i am alluding to. You can be proud of whatever you obtained precolonial times but am telling you that if it was really sophisticated, you will not be crying about FG neglect because your society is an homogenous society unlike the present space occupied by Ndokwa people. Instead of you to look inward and fix your society, your preoccupation is to disturb other people in place of fixing your dysfunctional society that is hampering your own development.
CultureRe: Are Ukwuani People Igbos(ukwuani People Please Talk) by Pharoh: 2:44pm On Dec 08, 2013
They are the same people just as aniocha and oshimili people come together to refer to themselves as enuani. It is because one is a land based community while the other is a riverine based community. Two systems inside one community of related people but even those who did not organize themselves in a monarchy system still have some social structure and organization embedded in their system. The consciousness is still intact and with the benefit of modern civilization then they only need to be in the confinement of their own space to push development forward.

This is unlike in the southeast where they have been in their own confinement for a long time to this day but the roots of what the colonialist met before organizing them to this level is still embedded in the present dispensation. This is not a dick measuring contest for me because we can go on and on to argue our points without anyone accepting the view of the other. The point i am trying to pass is what you should focus on and there won't be issues like this if people are respected for the way they wish to structure and organize themselves.

The point of the aboh reference is for you to cite a similar system across the Niger because you rightly said that though distinct but they are actually one group. Those times have past and we live in the modern era but the truth is that you guys are not still socially organized to bring out the best out of a population of over 30 million people. This 30 million is composed of many educated people but instead of them to fix themselves first, the most important thing for them is to disturb themselves about anioma people.

We are together known as Ndokwas and what ever a sub component achieves is the glory of the whole group.
