Even the most ridiculous-sounding oral tradition often contains a kernel of historical truth. The historian needs only understand that the language of oral traditions could be highly poetic, allegorical and symbolic. Then begins the work of decoding and interpretation.
This is very true.
CultureRe: The Oluyares: The Igbo Aborigines Of Ife Who Still Live There by Pharoh: 2:35am On May 13, 2015
The yoruba origin story is very deep and like most cultural myths it is only the initiated that has this deep understanding of those stories, not even the common yoruba people talkless of outsiders.

Like you stated "Nigeria once practised true federation"

but you and me know quite well that what we have now more less Unitary system, the federal republic in Nigeria official name is just for academic exercise... The agitation for Resources Control is pointer to this assertion that we are not practicing a federation system of government...

The 8 Yoruba states can not just decided to adopt Yoruba language with opposition from other sections of the country.

The moment Yoruba language become official medium of communication in S.west region and go unchallenge by the other regions, Nigeria as we know it officially cease to exist....
You very right on point and this was the position i was trying to explain to one of my yoruba friends. One Nigeria has consequences and with the way that we are structured, it even have so many negative repercussions. The funny thing about it is that it is this same issue of language when i pointed out to him that yoruba language is going down but you won't know because of the huge population. The only way to preserve a language is to make it official and use it officially for education, government purposes and medium of communication in a defined territory.

Like you said the day you deprive other Nigerians from having formal education by the government in any part of Nigeria is the day Nigeria cease to exist. The only solution is to practice 100 percent true federalism and it is only in this system that we can make our languages official while still remaining one Nigeria. As long as we still have this rubbish federalism right now then lets forget the thought of using our indigenous languages as a means of communication officially. This is one of the reasons the north still lags behind in education, using English instead of Hausa language for education.

The issue of people denying their history is all but for selfish reasons. Self determination or even nationhood can be achieved without self denial.
What history and how far back can you go?. . . do you know that the more you go back in history the more you realize that igbo, yoruba and edo used to be one but see them today fighting each other like fools.

Radoillo:
I do not think I have ever met an Igbo (Igboid, if you prefer)-speaking person from the South-South who understands the situation, as clearly as yourself.
To be fair, most South easterners appear not to understand it, too - with the way many of us often insist that the Igbo ethnic identity was already a well-developed idea, prior to the 20th century.
Thanks and i don't mind whichever name is used as long as the usage is clearly understood. Studying history and looking at facts objectively would have helped but i believe some just want to stick to their present understanding because of the Nigerian factor. We all came to the world naked and going to leave it naked be you ukwuani or igbo.

We can all come together under one banner or have different banners in a very strong cooperation as one family no matter the various uniqueness. we only just need to understand each other, come to an agreed understanding and move on to better things. I belong to every igbo group you will ever find on facebook but people just think that promoting ukwuani uniqueness means someone hates the word igbo.

veuttoutlemonde:
The problem lies here: ukwauni is a language and not a dialect but 100 percent part of this igbo/igboid family One cannot choose his history or rewrite history, our history is what makes us. If all the Igbo dialects mentioned by the OP are languages on their own, they would not qualify as Igboid. One can decide to change or deny his citizenship, but his history can never be denied or changed.
They actually all can be classified as igboid to me but we have two dichotomy here because some groups profess more their unique identity while some have embraced igbo as theirs. Since you cannot force identity on any group then igbo proper became an invention to group the others who have chosen to use igbo in place of their unique identities into one group (problem solved ).

We all started with our unique identities but along the course of history with the coming of the whiteman the option of going with igbo as one came to reality. Some accepted while some did not, the civil war in some way and ethnic perception within nigeria has helped to shape the present reality. We can go about it in a sensible way like adults or just keep on abusing ourselves if we try to shy away from reality and facts.

It's a relief to see more honesty and sense in this thread. I just do not get why people make this a difficult and never-ending topic. If all the posters who have so far posted in this thread had this understanding, then a list of Igbo speech forms and the respective communities would have been more easily and objectively compiled. This thread would have been a simple success story and life could continue.
Thank you for this and to me i really want all the languages to be preserved because they are all natural. We should endeavor to preserve all of them because it is the best access gate to know a particular group 100 percent. You cannot use ukwuani to comb the in and out of Ngwa culture, traditions and spirituality 100 percent. I don't mind if every group picks up central igbo as a second language to ease communication or learn the language of the group if you happen to stay there for a long time.

I hope one day a thread will be peaceful and we will be able to do proper documentation of all the speech forms available. There is an alarm that these language family might go extinct and threads like this shows that we might not be serious in addressing this issue. I am glad that ukwuani peeps are now making effort to revive and preserve our language, hopefully more will be done when we get our anioma state.
CultureRe: A List Of Igbo Dialects And Where Their Speakers Are Found. by Pharoh: 10:40pm On Apr 23, 2015
In my opinion ukwuani people are not benin people and it is time we should try to understand these stories that has been passed down to us. We came from benin as a geographical location but not as from the people because the language we speak today is evident to that. There might have been some benin people who followed our people or people who are product of inter tribal marriages. There is nothing also special in having edo or yoruba words in our language as well. Our language is under the igbo and igboid classification so lets stick to that while still maintaining the fact that ukwauni is a language and not a dialect but 100 percent part of this igbo/igboid family.
CultureRe: A List Of Igbo Dialects And Where Their Speakers Are Found. by Pharoh: 10:07pm On Apr 23, 2015
This topic will never end when people don't take time to understand each other and respect the wishes of other people.

To my Ukwuani peeps, ukwuani is igboid together with other related family members because of similarities in our languages. Each group is unique and independent of each other but all together in one family that could be called igboid or igbo. It is the choice of every group to go about their unique names or choose to go with the family name. Even if you go with your unique name, the family name will always be with you but in the back corner. This is what ukwuani people have decided to do from time memorial but our choice has clearly not been understood or respected to this day and hence this argument. No ukwuani has ever denied being in a family relationship with the other groups but this alienation will continue if our choice is not respected.

Diario Sport is reporting that Messi will have a meeting with the rest of the captains (Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets). They want to hear Leo's side of the story and find out why does Messi have such a big problem with Lucho. The captains have already talked to Enrique about the issue.

After hearing from Messi, the group plans to have a meeting between players and Enrique only, to solve the situation and move on from the issue, sources say.
Guess the meeting was not fruitful and lucho will actually be sacked later today.

It started on Saturday night, when Luis Enrique got into a heated discussion withLionel Messi and Neymar Jr. when he told the two that they would be benched against Real Sociedad. It continued on Sunday, when Messi and Ney's absence for most of the game led to a disappointing loss. It got worse on Monday, when Leo missed an open practice because he is reportedly done with Lucho.

Then the club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, started cleaning house and fired Andoni Zubizarreta, who is no longer Barcelona's Sporting Director, which led to Carles Puyolresigning as Zubi's assistant after only four months at the job.

Now, the process of changing everything looks set to be completed. Sources told Barça Blaugranes on Tuesday that Josep Maria Bartomeu has informed the players and his board associates that coach Luis Enrique's contract will be terminated at the end of this week

Now, the process of changing everything looks set to be completed. Sources told Barça Blaugranes on Tuesday that Josep Maria Bartomeu has informed the players and his board associates that coach Luis Enrique's contract will be terminated at the end of this week, most precisely after Barça's match against Atlético Madrid in Round 18 of La Liga.

Bartomeu has a scheduled press conference for Wednesday afternoon, in which he'll clarify the situation and possibly announce the firing of one Enrique.

Abagworo:
The sooner people realise ethnicity has to do with mindset and society, the better we all understand the Ikwerre, ukwuani saga.

If Obama was in Brazil, he would have been classified as a whiteman. However in America, he is black because of the society. Ezaa speaks the most deviated version of Igbo language but accept being Igbo more than Ukwuani who speak same Igbo with some Anambra and Imo people.

Urhobo and Isoko are almost like two dialects of same language but they have never agreed as being one. In fact Ibibio and Annang people use Efik language in orthography and in Church but have still not agreed to be part of a "coalition" of Ibibio based ethnic group.

The most important thing is how Ukwuanis view themselves.
If everyone understood this then there won't be all these arguments here and there.

Radoillo:
Precisely. This is why I prefer to say 'Igbo-speaking peoples' rather than 'Igbo people'. The former term suggests a loose collection of peoples bonded by shared linguistic traits but who may not neccessarily share a common ethnic consciousness.
I like this comment too and it is very true, no ukwuani denies the similarities but we don't share that common ethnic consciousness and prefer to focus on our uniqueness or what ensures our self preservation, no hate or anything whatsoever.

That's roughly 7,188 shirts sold per hour worldwide and at £60 each equates to about £20.7m in sales

Well at this point i will not continue this in order not to derail this thread so i will just let it slide and i don't know what is new to learn from what we have been reading on nairaland for many years now. There will be other threads to educate us so whenever that becomes a reality then i will be very eager to see what you have to say that is different from the others. Let the thread go back to its initial direction as this is really not about ukwuani people.
