I am not fighting anyone but only putting a distinction because delta igbo people was mentioned by the same person and the etc means he is talking about the others. If the discussion is about aniocha and oshimili people then it is definitely not my concern as i mostly restrict myself to ukwuani/ndokwa affairs.

How do other delta-igbo people(asaba,igbouzo,ogwashi-ukwu etc) have a history of nri-awka igbo settlement when onitsha which is the gateway to those places has no trace of igbo origin? Do those nri-awka migrants fly to those places? ,didn't they pass through onitsha?

You are the one that is confusing yourself because my original statement made mention of anioma ethnic groups not claiming benin as their ethnicity but you did not see that. Nobody is an american alone. In the olden days, different clans of south east live independently though their have similar language and tradition. So the whites did not create igbo consciousness instead, they awaken it.

The clans in ukwuani land did not live independently and that relationship or system of organization has not been broken to this day in ukwuani land so don't confuse us with groups from the southeast. In any official list of ethnic groups in Nigeria, you will find Ukwuani inside of it so i am not moved by ignorant claims of ukwuani people are igbos or benin. Our reference to benin is a claim to the farthest known place of origin and not a statement of ethnicity like most of you want to believe. Let those who want to be awaken to igbo consciousness do so and those who have their own separate consciousness do so too.

Why don't you tell us the ethnic identity of those white that you find in south africa and america or is white now an ethnicity?. Anioma groups like ukwuani and Ika do not speak igbo language but Ukwuani and ika respectively which doubles for their identity as well. I don't think if you asked Nri or ezechime to tell you his ethnic group or language and they would mention igbo because that was the creation of the whiteman.

Some people thought closing the delta igbo thread will stop the debate but it is evident that it will never stop. Origination from a geographical location does not mean you are of the same ethnic group with the people presently there. Americans do not European ethnicity even though most of them migrated from the various European countries today. Anioma ethnic groups do not claim benin as their ethnic group but only claim there as their place of origin only which was originally called Idu. An empire is made of different ethnic groups and their languages so it is in this light that you will look at the benin empire and not that everyone who claim benin origin must speak benin language.

It will improve with time with proper management and increase of locomotives to meet up with the multitude of passengers waiting to board along the journey.

APC started spreading nationally some few years ago and there has not been any election in delta state since then to the best of my knowledge. The comment you quoted above was in regard to the governorship election in delta state and i am telling you that aniomas will vote for any anioma candidate or any reputable deltan. There would not have been anioma 2015 agenda if delta state has been developed properly but the people ruling it for the past 14 years have sunk it into ethnic politics as everyone can observe here.

Aniomas will vote any anioma candidate in the coming governorship election regardless of which political party they choose, we stand for good governance and development over ethnic politics.

The British parliament joined southern and northern Nigeria together and the British parliament also gave us independence. They no longer have sovereignty over Nigeria to enforce any so called treaty. Nigeria can only be broken into different parts whenever Nigerians decide so and not a fathom treaty that never existed.

The focus of government should be strictly towards infrastructure ( critical ones especially ) and leave the other aspects to private management while they regulate the activities of this private management.

I think it is time this thread goes back to the original discussion so this is where it stops for me and thanks for the little discussion @radoillo. I have read your response and if you research well then you will see a breakdown of the igbo proper. To me it doesn't make sense to break the igbo proper down anymore when you guys are already igbo centric so that is a possible explanation for that igbo proper term. I am not continuing this discussion anymore because of the usual direction that it is heading to now so please try to understand that.

It has always been a free world for us unlike you guys so you will never see me discussing about other people except citing examples to present my case. I don't even argue with any anioma person that says he is igbo as it is a live free and let me live world for us. It is never a do or die affair so there is absolutely nothing i will do about it. A time will come in the future where the issue will be settled once and for all so i am not loosing sweat about that but i definitely know the majority sentiment in my ethnic space. Anyone is totally free to be igbo and anyone is totally free not to be igbo, if this choice is a basis for enmity then i can boldly say you definitely are not civilized and socially evolved. If this choice is not a basis for enmity then you will not be loosing sleep about peoples identity and language because that does not affect every possible cooperation that can exist between the two groups. No ukwuani man regards you guys as enemies despite our stand for ethnic determination but it is the opposite for you guys here and it very troubling to say the least.

What i am definitely sure of is that you can form your igbo only country but if the structure and system you eventually implement is not working then these groups that shout igbo will start shouting that they want to break away so don't shout for joy yet. This is the same reason people were shouting that anambra north has not ruled anambra state before because the whole igbo identity is a ruse fit for selfish political and economic reasons only. If there is a strong ideology behind the igbo identity then you will not be seeing Imo versus anambra thread here on nairaland or abia state deporting or sacking other igbos from the other states in their civil service. So you can continue in your shallow igbo identity that is not rooted on solid grounds but solely for opportunistic reasons only.

Who is making the classification? Are they basing their studies purely on linguistics, or are they influenced by factors like group identity and geopolitical factors?

The classification is made by researchers and competent organizations that are regarded as competent authorities to do so. The igbo proper thing came about the whole union, central and standard igbo idea. If you want a break down of the igbo proper into their constituent ethnic group identity and language then i can give you the link of one igbo researcher that made it possible. Most organization do not see a need of that because most igboid groups in the south east already adopted igbo as their ethnicity and igbo as their language.

There is nothing like one igbo people speaking one igbo language and dialects spread all over the place. The igboid term is used to group similar languages and the igbo term is used to group ethnicities with similarities between them. There is absolutely no point to disturb these ethnic groups of being igbo as people should go about their daily lives with their ethnic identity and language. The German generic term is made up of people with different ethnicities and languages but no one is disturbing all of them to adopt one name and language as they are all separated in their own countries.

So igbos of the south east should leave the other ethnic groups to be whatever they want to be because it absolutely makes no sense to ask someone to drop his or her ethnic identity or language and adopt a generic igbo term and created igbo language.

Igboid Languages

The largest member of Igboid is Igbo, which is spoken in Abia, Anambra, Enugu Imo, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom State by about 20 million people.

The following classification of the Igboid languages is taken from Crozier and Blench (1992):

That is the classification of igboid languages and that is a language family because it is made up of closely related languages. So why should anyone with their right senses now claim that Ika is a dialect of igbo language when both Ika and igbo are listed as igboid languages.

The name igboid was used to name the family because igbo was the largest member and this is the same system that was applied in Edoid and Yoruboid family whereby you use the name of the largest member to form the family name.

That is the only thing that matters to them in their quest to claim Ikas and Ndokwas as Igbos when linguist who grouped this language always warn people not to base the classification as ethnic labeling. The Ikas speak their own separate language called Ika while the Ndokwas speak three related languages and they are Ukwuani, Aboh and Ndoni. Ika and Ndokwa are a completely separate ethnic group from the igbo ethnic group so never believe anything an igbo man tells you about Ika and Ndokwa people. Ika is never dialect of igbo language as it is a completely separate language on its own and it is made up of her own dialects too.

This is how it is suppose to be done and the chairman normally do not have power than just being a spokesman. Every decision in a local government is done out of majority vote and they can change the chairman as many times as they wish within the allocated tenure jointly giving to all of them. So there should not be one powerful local government chairman but a powerful local governing council where decisions are made by by majority vote.

Always deluding themselves that Ika and Ndokwa people are igbos and this is the same person who has to lock a thread ( abuse of mod powers ) in an attempt to stifle the voice of Ikas and Ndokwas here on nairaland.
