Mindlog: Don't regard it as discouraging but rather giving you a clearer view of what is ahead, so you don't regret spending so much £££ on undesired outcome. It gives you the opportunity to fine tune your plans. I applied for Canadian visa last year I got denied I didn't even get a University admission my cgpa 3.56 was too low I considered Germany at some point but the courses available in English was just international management which I can't waste money on A friend is telling me I should try Ireland that it is better than the UK I. Just weak cos once my family spend this money on me They won't look at me twice And I can't come back roaming the streets of lagos |

SegunWamiri: Please can someone enlighten us on how the different bodies responsible for rating institutions in the UK arrive at their figures and rankings. Maybe if we know the yardstick for placing one above the other, it can help prospective students make a choice decision on which school to settle for regardless of their rankings having set their priorities. They use so many methods Besides the UK education system have started ranking uni according to their teaching capabilities and other things That's why you see Gold Silver Bronze |

Aprokodaughter: Seems majority of you are in Business related courses or Science.if you are a graduate from the Arts. You won't find accredited courses in the arts.
Are you now saying that Art Graduates should not apply for a postgraduate program in the UK? When they have skill shortages in the art industry.
As for UK universities ranking I agree with you. I believe those from art also have bodies too that accredit departments or faculties |

SegunWamiri: @ hosey, @ phatkings, @ mikerrr, @ LagosismyHome. I'm certain that you guys have succeeded in confusing a set of people. Lolz. I could have been included if I didn't have someone closer to the system. My brother is a course leader in one of the UK universities and without mincing words, he said that these rankings are not all that important. UK standard remains UK standard. For instance, it is indisputable that none of these schools would overlook plagiarism in one's write up except for the ones that their standard is clear for all to see...Admission requirements alone sef.. We know them...
While I agree that rankings can be unreliable, it can sometimes be used as a guide especially for science based programs since most times international students don't have the opportunity to look around in order to decide on which school has the best facility and meets their academic needs.
Therefore, if you are not studying with the powerful schools, you need not worry about the perception of your potential employer. More so, the UK is meant to be a society free of all forms of discrimination.
In conclusion, carefully assess your circumstances - budget, academic needs, your present grades/qualifications, future plans (returning to naija after study or remaining in the UK) as well as your employability in the UK based on what you want to study - and use these to determine what your choice school should be.
I hope I have made sense sha I didn't confuse anybody sha a question was asked and I gave my opinion which is tailored to suit the question. Just make sure the department or faculty is accredited by the necessary and relevant body or bodies... |

LagosismyHome: At the end of the day what the goal..... if you are doing a masters and want to get a job then ranking plays little or no part. In america yes, in UK.... don't bother. Apart from the few tops schools . The rest are all in the same bucket when it comes to hustling that job after graduation
I agree with hosey , Instead pick what fits your need Super story |

hosey: Forget all these rankings. It does not give the whole picture. They are not reliable at all as it varies with politics involve.
The first and second best university in the world currently according to webometrics is Harvard university and Stanford university respectively.(https://www.webometrics.info/en/world)
However, according to the Times University rankings, University of Oxford and California Institute of Technology are first and second best university. (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2020/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/25/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats).
What does this tell you. It shows the rankings are not reliable and should not be used as yardstick.
There are only three main profile rankings for all UK universities. The first rank are your Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL e.t.c Second rank are Manchester, Edinburgh, Newscastle, Birmingham, Leeds e.t.c Third rank are Edinburgh Napier, Teeside, NTU, BCU, MMU e.t.c.
If the first and third rank university school fees are same hence I will advise you to go for first rank. If the fee for the third rank is small, then go for third rank. It does not affect you at all.
What matters most for employment and further study is your competency, skills, knowledge, grades and experience. Also work towards your strength and limit your weakness.
Please bro dont give generalised advice. What is good for Mr A is different from what Mr B will benefit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_accreditationList of business school with triple crown accreditation in the world I rest my case |

hosey: In terms of ranking, both university are in the same profile. I prefer Manchester but that doesn't mean it is better. Other people like Birmingham. So it depends on you. Cost of living is quite similar in both too.
Choose cheaper school fees option. 8 beg to differ on this MMU is higher in ranking as to compare to Birmingham City |

JadioNG: Hello everyone. Please I need a review about Birmingham City University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
I need to know about both schools in the Business Faculty. Both schools have almost the same modules tho but all your experiences will go a long way about them in helping to decide.
Also the environment for students in general and what advice would you give.
Which city is better ? Birmingham or Manchester.
My cuz is confused. 27years old.
Thank you. I. Got admission in both From what I have gathered online and research Manchester metropolitan University business school is accredited by the three biggest business body in the world in relation to business ( aascb, equis and amba) only 97 business schools in the world has such accreditation and only 28 schools in uk is amongst the 97 they call them 1% As for cities both Manchester and Birmingham are good But for me I opting for a business school which is more recognised world-wide cos that's the goal You can also check business schools ranking in Europe and see how each fairs |

Please and please is amvca an African or a Nigeria award what does tribalism have to do here. If we are to judge amvca Is a pan Africa award but I am sorry to say other africa countries are not duely represented in the award category. They should scrap the Africa and call it nollywood magic viewer choice awards. Secondly a fan voted award is useless most of us don't know how to judge quality of acting we just go by sentiments of whom we love thereby not giving the chance to a better actor but lesser known actor who actually acted better a chance at winning.
Thirdly who is timini to win over Ramsey and Gabriel afolayan can't you see the award is rigged to favour the hottest act at the moment.
Amvca is a wash To me is not a movie aware but a fashion display show full stop |
