The PDP Vs The APC In 1999, The PDP met an economy without the likes of MTN, Airtel, Glo, Etisalat, Dangote Cement, NIPP, Shoprite, privatized NEPA and many more. There were no agencies like ICPC, EFCC, to fight corruption. No regulatory agencies like NERC, NCC, PPPRA etc,. No due process or procurement Act, no UBE Act, and many other laws. No Communication satellites, and many other creations of the PDP. Bellow is a brief list of PDP achievements: **Abuja National Stadium **Revamping of the Railway Sector **Launching of the first Satellite into space **Launched the first Unmanned Drone **Built 150 the Schools Across the Northern States. **Fought Ebola Virus to a standstill to the admiration of the whole world. **Conducted 4 different National Elections. **Built 36 NNPC Mega Stations across the 36 States and the FCT **Established 12 Federal Universities, 9 in some Northern State, ( Kogi, Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kastina, Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfara and 3 in the southern States of Ebonyi, Bayelsa and Ekiti). **Established 2 Specialized Universities, The Police and Marine Universities. **Built 36 Federal Medical Centers. **Established the Civil Defence Corps, Tetfund, ITF, Due Process Office and SERVICOM. **The establishment of the National Open University by President Obasanjo. **Sponsored over 5,867 Lecturers of the Federal and State Tertiary Institutions for post graduate studies out of which 1,375 were sponsored overseas. **Passed the Freedom Of Information Bill **YouWin Program, where Over 100,000 jobs for innovative unemployed youths across the country was created. **Hosted the World Economic Forum for Africa (WEFA), the first African country to do so. **Dangote became the African Richest Man with a net worth increase from 2.1 Billion US Dollars to 23 Billion US Dollars in 2014, making him Forbes richest black person in the world and the overall 26th richest person in the world. Constructed the following roads: **Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, **Enugu-Abakilike Expressway, **Lagos-Benin Expressway, **Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, **Kano-Maiduguri Expressway, **Abuja-Keffi Expressway. **The second Niger bridge, **Introduction of the Nigerian Electronic ID card (E-ID card) **Introduction of the Cashless Syatem, E-Payment. **The Uyo Stadium, built by a PDP Governor, **Tinapa, Ogbodu Cattle Ranch, built by another PDP Governor. The PDP Governors also built and established the following State Universities:- **Adamawa State University, built by Gov Boni Haruna **Taraba State University, built by Late Governor Danbaba Suntai **Gombe State University, built by Governor Danjuma Goje while still in PDP **Abia State University built by Gov Orji Kalu while in PDP. **Nasarawa State University built by Gov Abdullahi Adamu while in PDP **Plateau State University built by Gov Joshua Dariye while still in PDP. **Bauchi State University built by Gov Isa Yuguda of PDP **Sokoto State University built by Gov Wammako while in PDP **Kebbi state university of science and technology built by Adamu Aliero while in PDP, **Kaduna State University built by Gov Ahmed Makarfi of PDP **Kano State University built by Gov Kwankwaso while still with the PDP **Umaru Musa Yaradua University built by late President Musa Yaradua of PDP. **Ebonyi State University built by Gov Sam Egwu of PDP **Akwa Ibom State University built by Gov Godswill Okpabio of the PDP **Cross River State University of Science and Technology built by Gov Donald Duke of the PDP **Ekiti State University built and repositioned by Gov Ayo Fayose of the PDP **Ibrahim Babangida University built by Gov Abdulkadir Kure of the PDP **Kwara State University built by Gov Bukola Saraki of the PDP **Niger Delta University built by Gov DSO Alamieyesigha of the PDP **Northwest University built by Gov Kwankwaso of the PDP. NB: The above and many more was what the PDP gave and added to the Nigerian people and records has it that they only borrowed 6 trillions, after upsetting our National Debts from the Paris Club of Paris and other Western Financial Institutions. The APC on the other hand has now borrowed over 11 trillion and are still borrowing, yet the only thing visible was that they spent 30 Million Dollars in the treatment of the President in London for an undisclosed ailment, 5 Million Dollars for the treatment of his son in Germany and the payment of over 12 Million Dollars to Boko Haram as ramson. And APC governor has also confessed to having paid the Fulani Herdsmen billion of Naira to stop killing local farmers. I have said my own, vote wisely...... |

BeardedMeat:Don't mind him. Read this The United States Department of Justice has denied having any record that indicates that Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has a pending lawsuit in the US. In an email to our correspondent on Friday, a spokesperson for the US DOJ, Peter Carr said, “Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records, and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar.” This was stated as a response to SUNDAY PUNCH’s request for information on whether Abubakar is wanted in the US in connection with any issue of money laundering. The mail also asked the department to confirm whether Abubakar has been banned from entering the US and if there is any court case against him concerning the Halliburton scandal which resulted in the conviction of a US lawmaker, William Jefferson. Asked if it is true that the ex-vice president (now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress) was banned from entering the US, the American official said the issue was confidential. He said, “Visa issues are confidential under section 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If your question is specifically about entry – not about visas per se – I would refer you to the US Customs and Border Protection.” Last week, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, had implied that Abubakar was avoiding a visit to the US because he might be charged with a case of money laundering. He reacted to Abubakar’s interview which he granted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s quarterly publication, Zero Tolerance, where he had accused the Kaduna governor of corruption by offering him Transcorp’s shares. https://punchng.com/dont-criminal-case-atiku-us/ |

*#copied...* ... I will transmit a story of how he disciplined a former military Head of State and prevented what could have led to the Nigerian second civil war. It was on 13 October 2000, when words went round that General Muhammadu Buhari was leading the Arewa team to the governor’s office to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. Buhari did actually telephone the governor that he was leading a team to his office. In less than 30 minutes after the general informed the governor of his visit, we noticed that the entire secretariat was already filled with lorry loads of our brothers from the North. This created some tension but we kept our calm. At about 2 p.m., Buhari arrived in a long convoy at the governor’s office in company of the former governor of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa, Alhaji Aliko Muhammed, Alhaji Abdulrazak and Alhaji Hassan. They all wore long faces. In fact, the anger in them was palpable as all pleasantries extended to them were ignored. “This is trouble” was the expression on the faces of all of us in the governor’s office. Shortly afterwards, the state Director of State Security Service (SSS) and Commissioner of Police arrived. But their presence did not change anything particular on the fears that had already gripped majority of us. The two security chiefs did not come with any operatives, they came almost alone. The meeting was called to order after Lam walked into the Executive Chambers. Introductions over, Buhari spoke on their mission to the governor’s office. Emitting fire, the general accused Lam and the government of Oyo State of complicity in the killing of over 68 Fulani people in Oke Ogun area and perversion of justice. His words: “Your Excellency, our visit here is to discuss with you and your government our displeasure about the incident of clashes between two peoples… the Fulani cattle rearers and merchants are today being harassed , attacked and killed like in Saki. In the month of May, 2000, 68 bodies of Fulani cattle rearers were recovered and buried under the supervision and protection from a team of Mobile Police from Oyo State Command. “ That some arrests were made by Oyo State Police Command in the massacre with their immediate release without court trial. This was said to have been ordered by Oyo State authorities and they were so released to their amazement. The release of the arrested suspects gave the clear impression that the authorities are backing and protecting them to continue the unjust and illegal killings of Fulani cattle rearers…” According to the general, they therefore wanted immediate stoppage of the killings, justice and compensation to the Fulanis. As weighty and indicting as Buhari’s allegations were, Lam remained unperturbed. He fired back with his own well coordinated arsenals. Lam identified all the points raised by Buhari and simply asked the heads of the organizations directly involved to respond to the allegations. First to speak was the Commissioner of Police who debunked all the claims. Instead of the allegation that the natives were killing Fulanis, the commissioner said pointedly that the opposite was the case. “ The killing of the natives by the Fulanis was duly reported to the police and, of course, we can’t make arrest because, as soon as they kill, they migrate to other areas. Who are you going to arrest? That is the problem”. On the killing of Fulanis, which he said was as result of “piled up anger”, the commissioner disclosed that arrests had been made and the suspects were in police custody. Next was the Director of SSS, who equally debuked the allegations by Buhari. “The natives don’t have problem with the Fulanis who are resident but those who are coming in, they don’t care about anybody. They just go ahead and when they graze the natives farms, whoever cares to challenge them runs into trouble. You said 68 people were killed , and people driven away. I am not saying there were no killings but they cannot be more than five. The petition is on the harsh side, there is nothing like that.” Not done yet, Lam called in his Deputy, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun; his SSG, Chief Michael Koleoso, both from Oke Ogun, and the chairman of one of the affected local government areas, Mr Ademola Alalade. They stated the true position of things, corroborating the submissions of the security chiefs. At this point, all the tensions and apprehensions evaporated. Trust Lam any day, he must rub it in. He spoke for about 20 minutes and the generals were at the edge of their seats for the entire period. They were like chicken that had just been thoroughly beaten by the rain. Lam said: “ Before I thank you for this visit, you have come to tell me something. I also want to tell you something and that something is to make an appeal. General Buhari has been a former Head of State, Brigadier Marwa has governed Lagos for some time and with credibility… so you are national leaders of this country. Even though, by accident of birth, you are from the North, you can be born anywhere; may be next time when I am coming to the world, I will be born in the North or the South-South. “My appeal will be that effort must be made to unite this country and that will be ïn the best interest of all Nigerians. I am appealing to the Arewa Consultative Forum, under which auspices our distinguished Nigerians are here; in recent times, they have been sending wrong signals to a number of us who believe in the unity and peace of Nigeria; you have been too critical of the efforts of the Federal Government. I am saying this because Nigeria, at this point, cannot afford to break and the words you northern leaders utter are very weighty, at the South here, we normally analyze them critically”. On all the allegations, he said: “From what they have written in the petition, this government is completely blameless because we don’t interfere either with the judiciary or with the police functions. I always preach peaceful co-existence in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. We are all Nigerians and that is what we have been preaching all along and we shall continue to be Nigerians , no matter the present or immediate problems which will be solved by the grace of Allah. “I want to say also that we really have to appeal to our people, the itinerant Bororo people, that they should observe less aggression. It is not good , it is not right just coming from somewhere then you just pass through farm lands cultivated may be with the person’s life savings and then over night everything is gone. That is not right, even Allah does not approve of that. We even wonder when they talk about this people carrying dangerous weapons, I say do they really believe in Allah? When you just take life like that and go away! Are we not forbidden not to take human life? So I think General Buhari, General Marwa, you have to be educating them… It is my pleasure to inform you that at the Presidential Lodge, we have made some arrangements for refreshments so that before you go we can refresh together”. Buhari and his team did not wait for any refreshments. They came in angry and left bewildered. ADIEU! GREAT LAM! OLAOSEBIKAN, WAS CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO ALHAJI LAM ADESINA Source~ Vanguard |

As the race for the chairmanship post of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) heats up, a former education minister, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, a former governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, and a former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, have emerged front runners for the coveted party post. Their emergence, THISDAY has gathered, stems from the insistence by the South-west zonal leadership of the party that the post of national chairman of the PDP must remain in the zone, in accordance with the zoning arrangement for key posts agreed to by the party early this year. A source also said that the South-west zone’s contention for the chairmanship post has been given further fillip by former President Goodluck Jonathan who was said to have rejected the attempt by some governors of the party to back a former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, who is from the South-south zone. Some governors with vice-presidential ambitions had thrown their weight behind Secondus, arguing that the South-west should produce the vice-presidential candidate as running mate to a Northern presidential candidate in the 2019 elections and as a counter-balance to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The argument of such governors is that if the South-west gets the vice-presidential slot, this could help to split the vote in the region that played a major role in catapulting President Muhammadu Buhari to the presidency in the 2015 elections. However, Jonathan, the source disclosed, has counselled against altering the zoning arrangement agreed by the party on the grounds that it would lead to more rancour in the PDP at a time it should be presenting a united front for the 2019 general election. “The former president has counselled against altering the zoning arrangement agreed to early this year. “It will cause to much rancour ahead of 2019. Besides, Jonathan also believes that the South-south is already the stronghold of the PDP, so the focus should be on ensuring that there is no problem in the South-west before the next general election,” the source said. Based on this, the source volunteered, Adeniran, Agbaje and Daniel have emerged front runners for the chairmanship post. Looking at their strengths and weakness, he said while Adeniran has remained a PDP loyalist and has the maturity to lead the party, he lacks the sophistication and clout to keep the governors in check. In the case of Agbaje, he is liked due to his reputation as an upright party man and the fact that he is seen as a new face that could usher a new beginning for the PDP and a break from its sordid past, but concerns remain among some party bigwigs that he may not possess the requisite party experience and an understanding of its dynamics. “Jimi Agbaje certainly has a lot of pros in his favour but concerns remain that he lacks an understanding of party dynamics and may be a stickler for due process which as you know the governors of the party will often try to circumvent,” said the source. On Daniel, he said the former Ogun governor has the backing of a majority of ex-governors of the PDP who are still very influential and want one of their own to lead the party. “The view is that Daniel can lead the party and has the support of his former colleagues and some governors as they are the most influential on decisions of the party. “But there are some who argue against Daniel’s emergence because he may not be as malleable and could be quite polarising,” the source elaborated. On Bode George, another former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, the source said the public perception of the retired naval commodore had not changed much, following his conviction by a court in Lagos and his subsequent imprisonment, despite his eventual discharge and acquittal by the Supreme Court. *He is 31 years old* Austria today made history by electing the world's youngest president who is 31 years old. His name is Sebastian Kurz, he is just 31 years old and with him is his girlfriend Susanne. Before today's election, he was the country's foreign minister. While our youths are contented with being ass lickers, praise singers and Special assistants on social media in Nigeria, youths else where are disrupting the status quo, pushing for innovation, changing the narrative and pushing for the new frontier. From Facebook to Snapchat and Taxify, these tech giants were founded by millennials who are youths. Mark Zukerberg is just 32 years old and the youngest billionaire in the world. The bar has been raised in Austria that elected a 31 years old man as its leader today. A 31 years old man in Nigeria is probably in his parents house, unemployed and broke, eating free food and not bothered. The 31 old Nigerian man is feeling big supporting politicians (who directly or indirectly put us in the mess we are in) on Facebook without seeing the nexus between the failed leadership and present unemployment predicament. I weep for our youths many of whom are wasting away forgetting that time waits for no one. The condition in Nigeria is not helping matters though and then my generation is not ready to push for change. Those who have bank jobs think they are on top of the world, forgetting that the owners of the banks were Billionaires at their age. The women get married and drive their husband's cars and think they have arrived. Those who work in IOCs see themselves as great achievers, not knowing that they are slaves. I ask myself and other young people reading this, what are you doing with your life? Are you happy with the way Nigeria is at the moment? What are you doing to push for change? |
Daeylar:. I have be monitoring your comments and your reply and concluded you need to work on yourself and approach issue with more maturity. I'm sorry if I encroach your territory. Thanks |
Is there anyone close enough to former president Goodluck Jonathan who may be reading this post? Please tell him that one unknown quantity is seeking for his forgiveness. I am asking for his forgiveness for the reasons I’ve carefully itemized below. 1. On Chibok Girls: I was among those that lampooned him for being too slow to track down the abductors of the school children. I have to apologize to him because only recently, a serving minister threatened to implicate a governor on his role in the abduction saga. I told myself wait a minute, did I hear what I just heard? And I cast my mind back to when people said that the abduction was a stage managed plot to ease him out of power. I joined others then in calling such individuals, “conspiracy theorists” and “evil people”. The story is getting clearer Dear Jonathan, in my haste or ignorance then, I couldn’t ask myself these simple questions: * how about 270 human beings could be loaded into trucks and just vanish from a city center. *how none of the school authority could place a single phone call to the head office of any security outfit to confirm who authorized the evacuation as they said the abductors claim. * why the principal who ought to be sacked and prosecuted for gross negligence, was elevated to the position of a commissioner shortly after. Whether it wasn’t a reward for a job well executed? Dear Jonathan, even now, * the army has overrun Sambisa forest where the girls were said to be kept and still no trace of them is found. * surprisingly, they are being released from “somewhere” in batches! Thank God that there are no traces of forest marks on their sleek skins. We eagerly await batch two. Hopefully, APC will secure the release of the last batch before 2019 as one major achievement for it to be voted again into power. 2. On Corruption: Dear Jonathan, I join others to insult your government because I thought then that the people in your government were thieves. Little did I know that compared to what we see today, they were mere pickpockets. Under the watch of our current anti corruption Messiah, * government officials use hundreds of millions of naira of IDP funds to cut grasses in the sandy sahel region. * billions of naira and millions of dollars, raw cash, are dug out of a house in a highbrow area of Lagos. The owner of the money is unknown and the said house lacks owner and C/o. * $25 billion contracts are currently said to be wrongfully awarded by NNPC GMD to phoney companies. Dear Jonathan, Your former NSA, Dansuki has been held incommunicado for $2 billion. Your man’s money is 2% of their man’s. Even if Desiani’s and other monies allegedly stolen by all those who served under your government are put together, they will not amount to 40% of what one man is currently alleged to have fingered. In light of the above, dear Jonathan, find it in your heart to forgive me. I allowed myself to be deceived by smooth talkers and propagandists. People who hid under a hypnotic change mantra to deceive the minds of the simple. They promised to fix electric power in six months, build new refineries, pay monthly salaries to jobless graduates, feed school pupils and stamp out corruption. Who wouldn’t fall for these lofty things? But alas, since they shoved you aside, things have gotten worse in every front. Their first act was to jack fuel price up from N85 to N145. Something you tried and we gave you headache through our “occupy Nigeria” protests. We can’t dare raise a single voice now. Next their ill advised economic policies caused prices of commodities to triple. They called it recession and blamed it on you. No light, no road, no food, no security from attacks of herdsmen. The only means we use to cry out, social media, they want to shut it by draconian laws.. If we agitate, they unleash trained pythons and crocodiles on us. There is God. Jonathan, I am truly sorry. |
word for only a wise person. I'm ashamed of this government |
Post-Nigeria reliably gathered that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has secretly endorsed Atiku, because of the failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led the government to bring the desired changed. “Apparently aware of Atiku’s intimidating political structures across the nation, Obasanjo has likely endorsed him”, a source said. Post-Nigeria’s investigation revealed that Atiku is reputed to have sauntered into the fourth republic, with the huge measured quantity of democratic credentials. Atiku established himself as a Democrat immediately he left the public service, and became a political devotee of late Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, an acclaimed great political tactician that flounced the country like a hurricane. His political history is legendary: a Politician, Businessman, and Philanthropist. He was born on November 25, 1946, and in the beginning of his national political career, served as the second elected Vice President, from 1999 to 2007, under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with President Olusegun Obasanjo. Atiku worked in the Nigeria Customs Service for 24 years, rising to become the Deputy Comptroller-General. He retired in 1989, and took up full-time business and politics. He ran for the office of Governor in the Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba States) in 1991; and for the Presidency in 1993, coming third after MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe, in the disbanded Social Democratic Party, SDP, primaries. In 1998, he contested and won the Governor of Adamawa State. And while still Governor-elect, he was picked by the PDP Presidential candidate, Olusegun Obasanjo, as his running mate. They went into the election and won in 1999. As documented by Historians, Atiku’s second term as Vice President, was characterised by a squally relationship with Obasanjo. His attempt to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter’s support, and it took the judgement of the Supreme Court to allow him to contest in 2007, after he was initially disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over an alleged financial misconduct by a “discredited” investigating panel, set up by Obasanjo. The apex court later ordered the Electoral Commission to restore Atiku’s name onto the Presidential ballot, and he ran on the platform of the Action Congress, AC, having quit the PDP on account of his issues with Obasanjo. Expectedly, he lost the election, coming third after the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and Muhammadu Buhari of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP. As a “consummated” Businessman, Atiku is a co-Founder of Intels, an oil servicing business with wide ranging operations across the country and outside the country. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria, AUN, both in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. Born to an itinerant Fulani Trader and Farmer, Garba Abubakar, the former Vice President was said to have started out in the real estate business during his early days as a Customs Officer. History has it that in 1974, he applied for and received a N31,000 loan to build his first house in Yola, which he put up for rent. From proceeds of the rent, he was reported to have purchased another plot, and built a second house. He was said to have continued that way, building a considerable range of property in Yola. Apparently very go-getting in investment, he was said to have later moved into agriculture, acquiring 2,500 hectares of land near Yola, to start a maize and cotton farm. The business fell on hard times and closed in 1986. “My first foray into agriculture in the 1980s, ended in failure”, he was quoted as saying. Obasanjo finally endorse Atiku Abubakar for presidency 2019 Later venturing into trading, buying and selling truckloads of rice, flour and sugar, Atiku’s most important business move, was to have come while he was a Customs Officer at the Apapa Ports. One Gabrielle Volpi, an Italian Businessman in Nigeria, was said to have invited him to set up the Nigeria Container Services, NICOTES, a logistics company operating within the Ports. Those who know him very well said that NICOTES provided immense wealth to Atiku. Atiku’s first expedition into politics was in the early 1980s, when he worked behind the scenes on the Governorship campaign of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who at that time was Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority. He canvassed for votes on behalf of Tukur, and also donated to the campaign. Towards the end of his Customs career, he met late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who had been second-in-command of the Military Government that ruled Nigeria between 1976 and 1979. Atiku was drawn by Yar’Adua into the political meetings that were now happening regularly in Yar’Adua’s Lagos home. In 1989, Atiku was elected as National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Front of Nigeria, PFN, the political association led by Yar’Adua, to participate in the transition programme initiated by Babangida. Atiku won a seat to represent his Constituency at the 1989 Constituent Assembly, set up to decide a new Constitution for Nigeria. The Peoples Front was eventually denied registration by the government (none of the groups that applied was registered), and found a place within the Social Democratic Party, one of the two parties decreed into existence by the regime. Many of his followers have said time without number that a “tested hand” like Atiku, is surely needed to coordinate the proper integration of the youths into the economic mainstream. “He is the highest individual employer of labour in Nigeria, and a believer in excellence. The truth that cannot be dismissed, is that among those jostling to convince Nigerians for their votes in 2019, only the Turaki has experience in job creation. This is the choice Nigerians must make in 2019, without sentiment and pandering to the propaganda of surrogates of past failures”, one of his followers said. “The fragility of our mutual existence as a country cannot be over exaggerated. As a matter of fact, the erosion of our cultural, religious, and social commonalities, is an ever constant feature of the past two decades. “There is need to undertake enormous reintegration of all divergent groups into a united country. Nobody can do it better than Atiku. He is a proven man of immense conviction and political muscles, to navigate us to the destination of unity.” Do you think This will Give Atiku an Edge to win the Presidential Elections coming 2019 ? |

*CORRECTIONS TO THE NUC ARABIC LANGUAGE AS A PRE-REQUISITE FOR COURSES IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES- NIGERIANS SAY NO The recension on NERDC 9-YR CRS/IRS BASIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM (BEC) as 'Separate Subjects' would be incomplete without immediate CORRECTIONS TO THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES COMMISSION (NUC) - ARABIC LANGUAGE, AS AN ENTRY PRE-REQUISITE FOR COURSES IN ALL NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES. SECONDLY, SO IS THE CASE OF ARABIC LANGUAGE, ALSO AS A GENERAL STUDIES (GS) COURSE AND REQUIREMENT IN ALL UNIVERSITIES. The intervention of the National Assembly to ensure genuine respect for the Nigerian Constitution and the abolition of the said revised 9-YR CRS/IRS BEC Curriculum after so much clamouring by the Nigerian populace is a timely and very welcome development. However, the case of NUC requirement/pre-requisite of ARABIC for offering Management Courses such as Accounting, Business Studies etc., in our Universities in Nigeria is not only an ear and heart ache, but definitely an eye-sore and would need be rectified as well. How can one imagine that Arabic language is now equivalent to either Mathematics or Economics, etc., and if you have a credit in Arabic language, you are good to go? What on earth has Arabic language got to do with Accounting and Banking? It is aimed at what? To make sure that if you do not make the required subjects you can escape with Arabic? To islamize the Nigerian Universities Educational System? To make sure that every Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria in the future must be a Muslim? To make Nigeria an annex of Saudi Arabia? This is nothing but corruption of highest order in high places. More seriously, in the same breath, is the case of NUC requirement/pre-requisite of ARABIC as one of the GENERAL STUDIES COURSES to be offered in year one of all our Universities. This is to say one must study Arabic language to be in any University in Nigeria!! Alarming!!! This to say the least is not just laughable and unacceptable, but a very serious matter of national intellectual concern and this hydra-headed conspiracy agenda against the country must collapse. Why will Arabic be offered as part of GS Courses in all Nigerian Universities? To be specific, Arabic is designed and approved currently by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as given below: *COURSE CODE, TITLE, UNIT & DESIGNATION* *GST 124 - Basic Communication in Arabic (2C Units)* *COMPULSORY* COURSE TITLE: Basic Communication in Arabic COURSE CODE: GST 124 COURSE UNITS: 2 Units COURSE DESIGNATION: Compulsory (C) *COURSE DESCRIPTION* GST 124: BASIC COMMUNICATION IN ARABIC (Thirty Lecture Hours in a Semester (LH 30) "INTRODUCTION TO ARABIC ALPHABETS AND WRITING SYSTEMS, ELEMENTARY CONVERSATIONAL DRILLS. BASIC READING SKILLS AND SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION IN ARABIC" - WITH COURSE OUTLINE. This ARABIC Course is listed among other GS Courses: *GENERAL STUDIES COURSE YEAR ONE COMPULSORY*: GST 111. Communication in English. 2Units/C. GST 112. Logic, philosophy & Human existence.2Units/C. GST 113. Nigeria People and Culture. 2Units/C. GST 121. Use of Library, Study Skills and ICT 2Units/C. GST 124. Basic Communication in Arabic. 2Units/C. The BMAS documents were produced for the under-listed academic disciplines: I. Administration: management and Management Technology. II. Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Home Economics. III. Arts. IV. Education. V. BASIC Medical and Health Sciences. VI. Engineering and Technology. VII. Environmental Sciences. VIII. Law. IX. Pharmaceutical Sciences. X. Medicine and Dentistry. XI. Science. XII. Social Sciences. XIII. Veterinary Medicine. *The BMAS design for this is said to serve as a guide to all Nigerian Universities in their Curriculum design.* Invariably, to study all of these courses, Arabic is ridiculously a GS pre- requisite. As a former Director of General Studies Unit, in a Nigerian University, I would ask please: Of what relevance is the inclusion of ARABIC in the G.S Department University Curriculum in the 21st. Century? Of course, of all the first ten (10) major languages spoken world-wide, Arabic came about 5th, after Chinese, Spanish, English, and Hindi. We may as well start learning the first three languages. Then, the Christians also can demand for Hebrew,Aramaic or Greek languages. Same goes for the Traditional religion Adherents who can demand for Odu Ifa or oracle incantations to be included. Why must it be Arabic alone? What is the sin of Nigerians after over fifty years of independence that all our students should start chanting Arabic in the Universities - including Christian students? After saying book is bad (boko is haram)? No plans toward the millennium goals for our teeming growing youth population and generations unborn! The growing agitations for the need for restructuring of the country is certainly here evident. If this is the vision, ambition and expectation of certain Nigerians for whatever reasons or beliefs for their generations unborn, they certainly need not extend it to all other adventurous and forward looking Nigerians. One smells rat and suspects some underlying sinister reasons, that are very suspicious and this is unbecoming in a multicultural, multi- religious and multilingual diversified nation as Nigeria that has a constitution. In conclusion, it is advisable that all the stakeholders get back to sit and study a copy of our constitution and THE NATIONAL POLICY ON EDUCATION from where we understood: The five endorsed national goals of Nigeria include: - A free and democratic society. - A just and egalitarian society. - A great and dynamic economy. - A land full of bright opportunities for all citizens. In line with the Nigeria's philosophy of Education, it was accordingly further stated that: "Education shall continue to be highly rated in the National development plans because education is the most important instrument for change; any fundamental change in the intellectual and social outlook of any society has to be preceded by an educational revolution." We need to stop dissipating energy uneccessarily in this nation. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria! |
THE Coalition of Arewa youths that issued a quit notice to the Igbo residing in the north will reconsider their stand following the position of Southeast leaders, Alhaji Shettima Yerima said yesterday. Yerima, president of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), one of the youth groups that issued the October 1 deadline, was quoted by TheNation Newspaper to have said that they were pleased that the Igbo leaders strongly condemned the pro-Biafra agitators. “We are happy that the Igbo leaders have taken a step to curtail some people who have been trying to hold the country down through their actions.” Yerima said the ultimatum was issued because the leaders did not do anything to caution the agitators, who were hell bent in causing trouble for the country. “Now that they have said they remain committed to indivisible Nigeria, we will reconsider our position on the matter,” Yerima said, adding: “We will have to discuss with the stakeholders across the North, what the Igbo leaders did is a welcome development. If they had done this in the past, we would not have reasons to take the step we took. “It is unfortunate that they allowed their position and leadership to be undermined by one fraudster, toying with the destiny of over 40 million people, which is not right. “We are also saying people should not just fold their hands and allow some people who are desperate for relevance to toy with their collective destiny. We will meet and discuss the matter because we are truly proud of Nigeria. “Now that they have done what we expect of them, we would have to reconsider our position. We will meet and make our position known to the world.” |
By Olusegun Elijah. President Muhammadu Buhari has spent 54 days on his recent medical vac in the UK nursing any one of: a prostate cancer—based on his medical history in 2011; or his internal organs pooping out—reckoning with a version the media traced to First Lady Aisha; or some doodah—going by the say-nothing press releases Garba Sheu and Femi Adesina have been churning out. Something is, however, certain: in the over 110 days spent in the UK on three occasions this year, the No. 1 citizen has been under the knife at some points; and his recovery so far is nothing to clink glasses about. But Buhari is still above ground. The Moslem community got lots of hearts and flowers from him last Sunday during Eid-el-Fitr. “My greetings to all Nigerian Muslims and our brother Christians on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr,” he said in a 96-word letter his senior media aide Sheu said his boss sent from London. The irony of it is Aso Rock keeps urging Nigerians to pray harder for the president. The sick rarely need so much prayer except when they slide into the twilight zone. And with the intensity of medical procedures the president is going through, and the flurries of prayers pouring in by the day from Borno and Katsina, you can’t safely say he’s as fit as a fiddle—as to do an audio post, or tweet a sallah message, or fire off a letter directing Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to sign memos. Sahara Reporters has even quoted some aides saying the president spaces out each time he takes certain medications. And, true, delirium, many think, is hardly a sign of ruddy health. So chins are wagging. Toyin Daodu, a citizen advocate, said he and millions of other Nigerians believe Buhari is badly battered—and, probably, down for the count. “Despite all his intentions, he is now incapable of discharging his duties,” said Dawodu, who claim he’s a big fan of the president. ALSO SEE: Fayose tasks Buhari on national interest But the president’s men—his Chef of Staff Abba Kyari and cousin Mamman Daura—want Nigerians to believe Buhari is still in charge, running a tight ship. Critics believe a picture of his could have told the story better. But Aso Rock hasn’t found a convenient time to release Buhari’s recent photo ops. No toothy smile or face even to the sallah messages. The audio version, recorded in Hausa, and garbled in few words, in one minute and six seconds, too, has been dismissed as a spoof. Many Nigerians couldn’t take it—that Buhari, so worn down by pill popping he has scarcely spoken with Osinbajo since he left May 7 would now belt out a sallah message, for the first time, and that in Hausa. Not so easy. And that hack, unfortunately, didn’t wash. “Other than propaganda, I wonder what they intend to achieve by putting out such an audio clip at this time,” said Junaid Mohammed, one of Buhari’s chronic critics. The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Enugu was not impressed, either. “Nigeria has more than 250 languages, so, how can the president address a section?” Godwin Madu, the group’s chairman said. “We are asking him whether he is still president of the entire country. Again, neither the text nor the audio dropped any hint about his return. A lot hangs on that currently. By his return, the truth about his health will heave into sight. And the path Nigeria should go will get much clearer. But Buhari’s homecoming, either in weal or woe, doesn’t sit well with some “Asocrats”—and a couple politicians. Kyari has proved all along—with his fronting and micro-managing—that he wears the breeches at the Villa. Apart from making the cabinet members report to him, the CoS also determines whom the president sees. And if Kyari, for any reason, hates your nose, grass, aides say, may grow under your feet waiting at Aso Rock. EFCC’s boss Ibrahim Magu had a first-hand experience of this when he wanted to see Buhari following a storm of allegations to make his confirmation difficult last year. He had to wait it out at the Mosque before he eventually met the president. Suspended Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, too. He never got a moment to present his case before his president and party leader when the kid honourable stirred the hornet’s nest blowing the whistle on the House of Reps in 2016. Yet Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the man at the centre of the budget padding scandal, was a fixture at the presidency. Aisha, also, has her story to tell—of certain twosome that have pocketed her husband. “Yes, I agree,” she told the BBC Hausa Service which put it to her last year. “It is surprising. Nobody thought it is going to be like this.” ALSO SEE: Soludo reveals how Nigeria can overtake France, UK economically Kyari was not just making himself Buhari’s crutches for old-time-friendship’s sake. The stakes are high—looking at what’s in it for him in the long haul. His dalliance with many of his boss’ anti-corruption war targets—corporate and political—has been panning out in millions of dollars. There are media reports he got kickbacks from tax dodger Jide Omokore, the chairman of the Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts, caught in the EFCC dragnet in 2016. Omkore racked up $14 million in oil tax debt under the watch of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. And Buhari was going to make him cough it up. Omokore, however, got a soft landing through Kyari. The CoS took him to meet Buhari—and worked it that the EFCC could not harry the oil tycoon again. Kyari also featherbedded telecoms giant MTN when the NCC slammed it with a N330-billion fine in 2016. And for his effort, Sahara Reporters said, he got N500 million. Kyari denied it. So did MTN. The midwife of the back-door negotiation, Amina Oyagbola, however, got the boot from the South African company. So far, the biggest beneficiary of Kyari’s wire-pulling, critics of the administration believe, is Sen. President Bukola Saraki. There has been a high-level horse-trading between the Senate president and the CoS. Magu is the bargaining chip. And the trade-off was the EFCC boss’ confirmation by Saraki’s Senate. Both appear to have mutual hatred for Magu who, some think, has personalised Buhari’s anti-corruption fight. There’s a pact Kyari reportedly made with Saraki—to ensure Magu never gets there—and the Senate president, enmeshed in many corruption allegations, will, in turn, weasel out of them all. Starting off with no fewer than six allegations hanging around his neck in 2015, Saraki is now demystifying the anti-corruption war—one at a time. The CCT has dismissed the false asset declaration suit against him. Other allegations have not even stuck. More wins will soon follow—thanks to Kyari. Apparently, the duo will be awesome working together, scratching each other’s back. Especially now that information about Buhari’s health is power. And it seems they won’t mind bending the rule, no matter what. In a sense, they have already violated the Public Service Rule. Skirting the 1999 Constitution won’t be much trouble for them. And they don’t give a damn about the national security fall-out their intrigue can spin off. Where processes matter, the PSR has spelled all out everything in easy pieces. All their monkey business is not about any grey zone in the cookbooks. “The applicable PSR 070316 stipulates that the maximum aggregate sick leave which can be allowed an officer, who is not hospitalized, during any period of 12 months, shall be 42 calendar days,” a national security scholar, Ayokunle Fagbemi, said in a press release during the week. But the CoS has made the president spend thrice that number this year at the Nigeria House in London. And nobody knows how many days the 74-year-old has to go—or how he fares. The clannishness can only spark up wild guesses. “It is possible that President Buhari is being held by his handlers against his will,” said Dawodu. Don’t blame him. According to Section 070318 of the PSR: “Sick leave for a period up to three months in the first instance may be allowed on the certificate of an approved HealthCare Provider to an officer who is hospitalized. “If at the end of that period the officer is still hospitalized, his Permanent Secretary/Head of Extra-Ministerial Office must make an arrangement for him to be examined by a Medical Board with a view to ascertaining whether he should be invalidated from the service or allowed further paid sick leave,” the section concludes. From here, the Senate president, naturally, has got reason to come in. But Saraki is already a part of the wheeling-dealing. And this kind of deal thrives in an information blackout. Aside from helping to keep things as they are, the darkness is good for making the phantom of a very sick Buhari haunt Osinbajo acting as president. So Kyari can pass off more of his memos as Buhari’s, and keep Magu on a short leash—for Saraki. As Dawodu, Fagbemi, and other Nigerians begin to agitate, it’s likely this intrigue won’t last. Many have already seen through the CoS and his political ally. According to the scholar, it’s a shame. And these men are just ridiculing the old sick man of Aso Rock—by keeping him in power he no longer needs. History has only repeated itself, though not exactly like the late President Umar Yar’ Adua’s who died in power in 2010. Buhari’s seems a tear-jacking epilogue of the pulsating story of a tough old cookie who once thought he belonged to nobody. Now he finds himself writhing in the vice-like grip of his men who can do anything to hog power. |
