A middle aged man, Deji Yussuf, has been arrested by
the Police in Ondo State for allegedly axing his friend, Tope Ezekiel, to death and thereafter poured acid on him over argument on proceeds from commercial motor bike popularly known as
Okada.
The family of the deceased said their son owned the Okada and was keeping the proceeds with the suspect on daily basis with intention of using it later to buy another Okada.
However, police source said the story is the other way round, that the suspect owned the motor bike.
Investigations showed that the suspect and the deceased who were close friends had been living in a room apartment at God’s Glory Layout, Eyin Akpata in Akure metropolis for four years before
the ugly incident.
The police said on the ill-fated day, one Owonifari came to report that one Deji Yusuf said he heard the grand mother of the deceased shouting for help and when he got there, he met him in his pool of
blood.
According to the police, on inquiry the suspect admitted killing Tope with an axe and thereafter poured acid on him.
The Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, said the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation, adding that the he would soon be charged to court for murder.

Mr. President, firstly I am not oblivious of the fact that there are various critical issues taking your attention at home, before bringing overseas’ plights to your fore. Secondly, I would not want to bore you with some irrelevant philosophical mumbo-jumbo. I will be concise in relaying the truism of my message by stating the difference between identity and image. Identity is philosophically opined as the perceptions about an individual personality that are mindfully constructed by the individual to the public. On the other hand, image is what the masses actually perceived about one’s personality. Sir, it is precariously demeaning to know that your very own country Nigeria has deplorably failed in offering the world a positive identity of herself and in securing positive images from the world views.

Take for instance Sir, here in Malaysia; an average Malaysian on the street of Kuala Lumpur believes every Nigerian is either “Keldai Dadah” (a drug dealer), a Scammer or a Gigolo. No matter how decent you look, regardless of how academically prolific you are and even if you are meeting in a religious platform, the sneer and fear of dealing with a bandit will obviously be sinuous in their looks when hobnobbing with you.

Nigerians have been painstakingly living with this stigma for years. Few innocent Nigerians have been brutally mobbed by Kuala Lumpur hoodlums in the quest of cleansing the smear on our national or their personal integrity. Some others find it easy to disown their nationality and will never want to have anything to do with their fellow Nigerians. It is also unfortunate that many a Nigerian has found tribalism, ethnocentrism or religious jingoism as a personal means of denouncing the sheer stigmatization. The responses of such Nigerians when discussing the illegalities of their fellow Nigerians are galling and dangerously anecdotal. You will hear statements like: those Yahoo boys are from the West and South, or the drug dealers are mostly Igbo boys, while some will say gigolo is a Christian/Islamic thing, depending on their religious affiliation. Of course, you can’t blame their bewilderment.

Mr. President, it is not as if Malaysians are not aware of the scores of Nigerians in many public and genuine private universities over here that are doing the nation proud. It is not as if some of their petroleum and telecommunication companies and universities can do without the expertise provided by some Nigerian professionals. They also know that some Nigerians involve in legitimate businesses with an undeniable dividend on their economic development.

But still the Nigerian identity and image are not fascinating. The Malaysian communities have their reasons for being extraordinarily careful whenever the name Nigerian rings around them. It is probably because of the incessant broadcast they see on their national televisions of drug smuggling dramas often staged in their airport by Nigerians, or because of the stray Nigerian youths in their capital city, that are either graduates or school drop-outs perilously scamming and virtually pilfering their people of emotional and financial chattels.

Mr. President, I am not writing you this letter only because I have personally been a victim of the disgraceful consequence of these criminal and notorious Nigerians. I am writing to inform you that those Nigerians need your help. They need you to fulfill your promises in transforming the present catastrophic situation in every part of Nigeria. They need you in reshaping their future through a creation of economically peaceful environment where business idea thrives and excellence is rewarded.

Mr. President, you have done so well in repaying the cabals that got you the power and fulfilling the promises you made for your wife since you become the President of Nigeria. Please Sir, the position you hold today in Nigeria makes you the only succor that can turn things over for these hopeless Nigerians.

Many a time we watch these scammers and drug dealers on television, they often prefer accepting death penalties here rather than being deported back to their home country. Some of these lads are brilliant graduates now enrolling in English language classes just as means of getting visa and gaining survival with their own shameful endeavors. The creative skills they employ in plotting their terrible scams would tell you these youths are not dullards. They are potential productive resources for a serious nation to be exploited.

Whenever any well-meaning or concerned Nigerian engage them in discussion, they replied by saying it is the fault of the president. They realize the Nigerian government has made them urchins in their home-country. The government has exposed them to unbearable poverty, and in lieu of providing them with meaningful employment, they would rather be used as political ruffians.

Sir, the Nigerian shameful identity and image are the resultant of the anti-masses government you are heading and it your fault. Those youths –the leaders of tomorrow- have been disoriented, misguided and wrongly decided to resolve in actively staining and shattering the good names of the Nigerian people and robbing the stain on the entire populace.

Mr. President, if truly you are patriotic and you are really God fearing, you should start making progressive moves that will utterly change the devastating situation of the country. You should start taking the condition of youths more seriously than your own personal eating allowances. You should start restructuring the shambolic economic situations in Nigeria by creating employments, rather than self-praising yourself for inconspicuous achievements. Sir, if you do these for us we will never forget you like the South Africans and Ghanaians won’t forget their saviors. And if you decide to continue in your ways we shall never forget to include your name in the already long list of our draconian leaders and your self-centered predecessors.

On behalf of me and millions of utopian Nigerians, I pray may God help you in heeding to these suggestions and in bringing Nigeria to the promise land sir

MANY found it hard to believe. They made calls to confirm if
those close to the bishop had heard the story.
But the ‘man of God’ himself told the story before journalists at
the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Port
Harcourt, Rivers State.
Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze narrated the story of how he allegedly
raped a 15-year-old girl after ministering at Calvary Army
Ministry, Rumuoji Eneka in Obio Akpor local government area
of Rivers state.
He blamed it on the devil and also accused his host as the one who
set him up. According to the cleric, after he finished ministering,
he retired to rest. The girl later came for deliverance.
He said that while he was pleading the blood of Jesus on the little
girl, she started removing her dress. Before he could restrain her,
he said he found himself on top of her.
“But to my greatest surprise, I was surprised when I saw her
pulling off her blouse and skirt. But, before I knew it, I had a
carnal knowledge of her. That is the truth of the matter.”
His head suddenly dropped after the confession, then went up
again; this time he said anybody could have fallen for it.
According to him, when he realised he had sinned against God, he
called some junior pastors to tell them what he had done to pray
for him.
Nwabueze said he took a second look at the little girl who
probably was still lying nude and waiting for a second round and
what he saw pissed him off.
“She started laughing at me. She said ‘are you angry?’ I told her
that I did not know she had hypnotised me. She said I should not
bother,” the bishop said.
“I was so angry and annoyed that I called some of my pastors and
made a confession, that I did not know what was happening.”
Nwabueze said it was not true that he raped the girl, stressing
that it was a consensual act. He also dismissed the allegation that
he later procured abortion for the girl when the father called to
inform him that she was pregnant. According to him, it was the
girl’s father that did it but he paid the bills.
The bishop maintained that the pastor of the church where he
went to preach set him up and he fell for it.
“We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of the
Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually
happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. I have so
many people who are my enemies. The man in-charge of where I
went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up,”
he stated.
“He invited me to his church for a programme, claiming to be my
friend. After the programme, he set me up because of the tussle
over the chairmanship of the communion.”
Meanwhile, the police have advised Christians to be vigilant and
ask the right questions sometimes on the actions of some pastors.
This way the police said, Christians could different between true
and fake pastors.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Rivers SCID, Mr
Samuel Okaula, who paraded the bishop and a male nurse who
allegedly facilitated the abortion, also said people should be
conscious of worship centres. He said Nwabueze would be
arraigned before the court to serve as a deterrent.
Reacting to the development, Executive Director, Institute of
Human rights and Humanitarian Law, IHRHL, Mr Ayankwee
Nsirimovu, described the action of the bishop as unfortunate as it
was done by one in a position of spiritual trust. He said the
incident was one case out of the experiences of under aged girls,
married and single women in the offices of randy bishops and
clergy men.

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in
Lagos has fixed October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial
in a N120 million copyright suit filed against popular music star,
Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their
manager, Anthonio Anifite over photographs allegedly taken at
the recent traditional wedding of the musician and his wife in
Akwa Ibom State.
Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff
in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy filed suit against
the defendants.

He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in
general damages and N20million in exemplary damages.
At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, neither TuFace nor
his wife was represented in court. Anifite who is the second
defendant was however represented by his counsel, J.O Uttute.
Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when the judge openly
admonished Uttute after the latter claimed that he had filed his
defence when he had not done so.
The judge warned him not to come to this court again if he was
not prepared for the case. “You told me that you have filed your
response, but looking through here, there is nothing to that effect.
And you are even smiling. Do you think you are here to joke?
Never come to this court again if you are not prepared. You don’t
even know when the case was filed and you are not prepared for
it,” said the judge.
Also, the plaintiff’s counsel, Habeeb Oredola expressed worry
over the defendants’ inability to appear before the court or be
represented by a counsel after they were served with the writs of
summon.
In the writ of summon, Okolo and his studio claimed they were
contracted by TuFace’s wife through a third party, identified as
Ms Chineze Anyaene to take photo shots at the traditional
wedding held in Eket, Akwa Ibom state in March, 2013.
The plaintiff said, he was reluctant at the beginning since the
offer was coming through a third party, but later accepted after
he was convinced that the offer was actually with the blessing of
the first defendant.
Annie Idibia was said to have later contacted the photographer
after the wedding and demanded for the printing of 10 of the high
resolution pictures taken.

The U.S. has issued a travel alert on Nigeria warning
its citizens not to travel to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states
because of the state of emergency in the states.
President Goodluck Jonathan on May 14 declared a state of
emergency in the three states to restore public order, safety and
security due to the spate of terrorist activities in the area.
An updated statement released by the U.S. State Department
dated June 3 said “the ability of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria to
provide assistance to its citizens in those states remains severely
limited’’.
It said the department had continued to recommend that citizens
avoid all but essential travels to some states in the country due
to the risk of kidnappings, robberies and other armed attacks.
The statement listed the states as Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi,
Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano,
Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto and Zamfara.
“The Department also warns against travel to the Gulf of
Guinea because of the threat of piracy.
“Based on safety and security risk assessments, the Embassy
maintains restrictions for travel by U.S. officials to all northern
Nigerian states in addition to those listed above.
“Officials must receive advance clearance by the U.S. Mission
for any travel deemed as mission-essentia,’’ the statement said.
The alert also cautioned U.S. citizens to be aware that
extremists could expand their operations beyond northern
Nigeria to the country’s middle and southern states.
It noted that the latest travel warning replaces the travel
warning for Nigeria dated Dec. 21, 2012.

A 65-year-old man, Mr. Felix Atta, a native of
Umuonu Umuida community, Enugu Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State has allegedly been killed by his son.
The alleged murderer identified as one Ejiofor Atta, according to the police, used a machete to slaughter his father for reasons yet to be known.
He was said to have gone into hiding after committing the crime and security men and family members have commenced manhunt for him.
According to report, Ejiofor, about six years ago murdered his mother.
Vanguard gathered that the unfortunate incident took place at about 2 p.m on May 18 at Umuonu Umuida where the son of the deceased allegedly macheted his father who was believed to be
about 65 years old to a state of unconsciousness.
The victim was, however, rushed to the General Hospital, Ogrute Enugu Ezike where he was confirmed dead while his corpse was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, confirmed the incident, saying the command had already commenced investigation into the incident.
In a related development, the police said a 56-year-old-man had allegedly hung himself on a wall hanger in his room at Umuenachi Amalla Egazi in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Amaraizu said the victim who is said to be suffering from a partial stroke reportedly committed suicide in his room. He said the lifeless body was found hanging on the wall hanger at about 7.30a.m on May 21.
He said investigations had commenced into the incident while the body of the deceased had been deposited at Prince Eze Hospital Mortuary, Obollo Afor for post mortem examination.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has
called on the Federal Government to extend the current military operations in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to other states in
the Middle Belt now being destroyed by alleged Fulani mercenaries.
Benue State Chairman of the association, Archbishop Yiman Orkwar made the call, yesterday, while addressing journalists on the security situation in both the state and the country in general.
He, however, noted that although belated, the declaration of state of emergency in the three states was a step in the right direction.
”From all indications, the terrorism being witnessed in the country is purely in pursuit of jihad. In Benue State, Fulani terrorists in collaboration with Boko Haram and other foreign mercenaries are causing wanton destruction of lives and property.
”To this end, we encourage President Goodluck Jonathan to also order military operations aimed at dislodging the armed Fulani jihadists and their allies from Benue and other Middle Belt states of the country,” he said. Lamenting the level of killings and wanton destruction of property in the six local government areas of Benue State by the Fulani mercenaries, Orkwar urged the Benue State government to set up rehabilitation camps for displaced persons in the affected communities without further delay.

Ogbaru Area Council of Anambra State engaged themselves in a
bloody clash.
The face-off, according to the source, was over the control and
ownership of a motor park known as Aba Park located in the
heart of Upper Iweka in the commercial city of Onitsha, along
the ever-busy Onitsha-Owerri Road.
Also, property worth millions of naira, including vehicles and
shops, were reportedly damaged during the clash which resulted
in traders at the Ogbaru Relief Market shutting their shops to
protect their lives and wares.
Trouble was said to have started when one of the warring
factions allegedly stormed the park early in the morning to
forcefully take over its control.
On arrival, the source stated, the other faction attempted to bar
their rival from entering the park but in an apparent move to
force themselves in, both factions clashed.
While the clash lasted, during which machetes and other
dangerous weapons were freely used. Those that died were said
to have had their skulls ripped opened.

Area Commander for Onitsha, Benjamin Wordu, an Assistant
Commissioner of Police put the casualty at only two while the
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said he was
aware of only one casualty, adding that the police were already

Reacting to the bloody clash, the Association of Igbo Youths
Organisation, AIYO, warned that it would no longer tolerate
incessant clandestine activities of militant youths from Onitsha
and its environs.
Sounding the note of warning, the AIYO State Coordinator, Mr.
Chukwuemeka Omeinyi Oga, added that the Igbo race would not
continue to engage in wanton destruction when other tribes are
developing their areas.
On the alleged discovery of flags with insignia of the Movement
for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)
littered the scene of the clash, MASSOB’s National Director of
Information, Comrade Uchenna Madu, dissociated MASSOB
from the incident.

THE Imo State Police Command has recovered the
remains of a 78-year-old woman, Mrs. Lucy Osigweh, who was declared missing in 2003.
Making the revelation, yesterday, state’s Commissioner of
Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, disclosed that the woman’s
lifeless body was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine located in her son’s private room.
Katsina said: “The missing woman’s lifeless body was found in a village called Ezuru Umuagwu, Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.”
According to him, “the corpse of the 78-year-old Mrs. Osigweh, earlier declared missing in 2003, was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine of a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice.
“The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years, was believed to have been placed in the warehouse by her son, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, a 64-year-old retired school principal.”
The Imo police boss said there was every reason to believe that the late woman’s son is a member of a sect, adding: “Preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the late woman must have been murdered by her son for ritual purpose.”
Katsina also said members of the sect used to hold secret
nocturnal meetings in the place to enhance their occultic powers.
“The principal suspect, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, who is the son of the woman, has been arrested and is making useful statement to the police,” the CP said.
Although Katsina did not say how the police got wind of the
crime, feelers from the late woman’s maiden home, Amakohia,
Awa, Oguta local council area, showed that they made the
startling discovery.
A villager, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, said that
angered by the unresolved and inexplicable disappearance of their relation from her marital home, some villagers decided to double check earlier stories bandied by Osigweh.
According to a villager, “on getting to Ejemekwuru, our people demanded to know why their relations had remained missing for 10 years. Her son told our villagers that his mother was mad at a point and ran away to unknown place.
“Apparently not satisfied with the response, as well as the
nonchalant attitude allegedly exhibited by her son, the villagers went beserk, destroying things in sight and ended up spotting the large cupboard containing the remains of their loved one.
“With this startling discovery, the villagers quickly lodged a
complaint with the police who subsequently swung into action.

The incident occurred during a protest march across the major streets of Makurdi over the non-implementation of the new national minimum wage for primary school teachers.
Numbering over 1,000, the teachers condemned the indifferent attitude of government towards their plights.
Mid-way into the protest, armed policemen in 10 Hilux arrived the Government House gate and tear gassed the teachers.
Some of the teachers were horse whipped while many who sustained gun but injuries were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The agitated protesting teachers pounced on Anchver, beating him mercilessly.
He was later rescued by policemen who took him inside Government House for safety.
The teachers accused the NLC boss, who is nursing governorship ambition, of abandoning their minimum wage course for politics.
Anchaver, who bled profusely, was smuggled to the Federal Medical Centre for treatment.
In a telephone interview, he denied allegations he had abandoned teachers in the state in their struggle over National Minimum Wage.
The NLC boss described teachers in the state as ingrate, stating he has done everything humanly possible for the implementation of their minimum wage.
