brownlords: Welcome to my country, sometime ago we use to complain of lack of security in election, i've seen election with only 3 police with baton in poling unit. i've seen political parties give their thugs police uniform to disguise as security men, and bring thugs to steal ballot box and exchange. Now we are in the era we now have to complain there is too much security in election, i still can't understand how come only APC is complaining of this.Word. |

thunderrider: BetterAPC has realised that without any extraordinary measures, they'll never win election hence their desperation for KILL AND ROAST......... Tinubu. GO TO POLL WITH JUJU........ AREGBESOLA. Now I know why PDP was desperate to put AYO SALAMI where he belong in order to show all the ALABA MARKET Judges the consequences of being used by corrupt politicians like Tinubu. |
Again, the supporters of APC are proved wrong. While they are everywhere castigating FG for not doing enough in securing wise, they at the same time blaming them for over security. But it was the same over security that ensured their victory in Edo State. APC yeye no be small. |
Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, yesterday said that the August 9, gubernatorial election in Osun State would be conducted under tight security.Jega who made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja at a workshop for media executives said that the commission’s interest was to secure the electoral process in Osun State, protect INEC personnel and material and make the environment for the election peaceful for people to come out and vote. He dismissed as misconception the position by some politicians that the just held Ekiti governorship election was militarised even as he explained why some voters in Ekiti did not find their names in the voters’ register. He also reacted on various controversial issues about the conduct of election in some states of the federation in recent past and the preparation for the Osun State governorship election. On the alleged militarisation of the Ekiti election, Jega said: “I am a student of Political Science. I have done a number of papers on militarisation. So, I know the meaning of militarisation. There is no way anybody can define what happened in Ekiti as militarisation. “But there was heavy security presence. All we can say is that there should be no over bearing presence of security operatives, particularly soldiers.“Again, we can’t dictate on the number of security officials that should be deployed,” he said, adding that there was no reason to condemn what happened in Ekiti as against the global best practice.“This is because every country has its own context. We know security has its own challenge in Nigeria. Security deployment is a function of variables. All I want is for the security agencies to do everything to secure the electoral process in Osun,” he said. On the missing names of voters from the voters’ register, Jega explained that those who were victims might have been involved in multiple registrations. He said: “Let me say this: involvement in multiple registrations is an offence. When you do, our database makes it easy for us to detect because we can see your photographs, your fingerprints and the time you do all the registrations not withstanding whether you wear different clothes or cap or head gear.“If you do multiple registrations, we retain only one and remove others from the system. The problem now is that a person who did multiple registrations will not know which was removed and which was retained. So, when such person gets to the polling booth, waiving his voter’s card and can not find his name, he begins to complain that he did register, but that he could not find his name in the voter’s register,” he said.Jega, yesterday, also confirmed that there would be election in all the states under emergency rule. The commission boss said that contrary to media reports that election would not be conducted in such states, he said election would hold in all states where the tenure of office of sitting governors has expired. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/osun-electionll-witness-heavy-security-presence-jega/ |
July 24, 2014 (NAN) Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the release of the abducted Chibok girls by members of the Boko Haram sects. Jonathan expressed the concern when she met with Nigerian community on Wednesday in Windhoek, Namibia. She empathised with family members ofthe girls and the entire Chibok community, saying that soon the girls would be released.“As a mother, I am very worried over the abduction of these girls; I share the pains of the mothers whose children were abducted,” Jonathan said.“We women of Nigeria, we have fasted and prayed that wherever they are, they will be released safely and that God will touch the minds of members of the sect,’’she said. She commended the security agencies for their efforts, adding that soon the girls will be back home. Jonathan also praised the Nigerian armed forces for their patriotic seal in fighting terror and urban violence especially in the North east. The first lady appealed to Nigerians in Diaspora to support government and the military in putting an end to the insurgency across the country especially in the North east. She also appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the present government in the rescue efforts of the girls, while assuring that they will be found soon.Nigerians should project their country positively so that investors can come in and bring development. We have never seen such terrorism before, we had civil war, but with this current situation, it is not a situation where you can come face to face with your enemy. Nigerians are peace loving people, and it’s rather unfortunate today that terrorism has been introduced into our country. We need to support our security forces, because if our soldiers can go to Mali, Somalia, Liberia and fight and conquer, then they will conquer Boko Haram soon.We are the giant of Africa, if other countries in the continent have problems; they run to us for help, then why don’t we believe in ourselves that we will conquer this insurgency? We have to be united in fighting it; terrorism is not one man’s war, it is a collective effort because when other country are faced with similar situation, they come together to fight it.“We need to come together to fight it, by the grace of God, We will conquer Boko Haram,’’Jonathan said. The first lady also assured them that thePresident was concerned about their welfare hence the appointment of a special adviser on Diaspora matters. She particularly commended those in Namibia, for projecting the image of Nigeria positively in their host country and urged them to keep faith with government. Earlier, the Nigeria High Commissioner to Namibia, Amb. Nathaniel Olurunfemi, described the first lady as very compassionate and caring mother. He said that over 4,000 families have benefitted from empowerment programme sponsored by the first lady. The foundation has also supported children with heart conditions in securing medical treatment abroad. It is to her credit that several women are now holding key national positions, boosting the silent revolution of bringing women to impact on great economy. It is to her credit as the current President of African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), that relief materials were sent to refugees of conflicts, including Congo, Saharawi African Republic, Mali and others. It is also to her credit that the AFLPM’s office was established in Abuja,’’ Olorunfemi said. Responding on behalf of the community, the Surveyor -General of the Republic of Namibia, Uzo Okechukwu Okafor, a Nigerian, commended the first lady for her support for women empowerment. We commend you for keeping the homefront going in spite of the challenges of governance especially with unsavoury criticism and abuses that comes with leadership. We will continue to join others in prayers that the efforts government is making rescuing the girls from their abductors will bear fruits. He appealed to the government to ensure that the reforms in the power sector be fully implemented.“We also pray that the transformation agenda of Mr President succeeds,’’ Okafor said A Nigerian pastor in Namibian, Haruna Bako Gorom, said a lot of things were being done including fervent prayers to ensure the release of the abducted Chibok girls. We want to say that we are standing by you, It should not just be the international community alone that is supporting, but Africans too should show their support. NAN reports that Jonathan was in Namibia to attend the 8th Stop Cervical,Breast and Prostate Cancer in Africa, an initiative of the African First Ladies/ Spouses Forum. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/07/nigerias-first-lady-expresses-concern-delay-release-chibok-girls/ |

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday asked the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko, to constitute a seven-man panel to probe “alleged gross misconduct” leveled against Gov. Umaru Al-Makura.The legislature took the decision during plenary on Wednesday which lasted for about 20 minutes. Majority Leader of the House, Mr Godiya Akwashiki (PDP- Udege/Loko) moved the motion for the setting up of the probe panel in line with the provision of the 1999 constitution as amended. The motion was later seconded by Mr Mohammed Baba-Ibaku (PDP- Nasarawa Eggon West). The Speaker, Alhaji Musa Ahmed, put the motion to vote and 20 of the 24 members voted in favour, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers voted against the motion. The assembly, therefore, directed the Clerk, Mr Ego Maikeffi, to communicate the decision to the Chief Judge, saying that the CJ has one week to constitute the panel. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the APC lawmakers attempted to snatch the mace but were prevented by the security operatives. Meanwhile, security was beefed up along the road leading to the assembly with heavily armed policemen and Armoured Personnel Carriers stationed in strategic areas and within the premises of the assembly. NAN recalls that the legislature had on July 14, resolved to serve notice of impeachment for ‘alleged gross misconduct’ on the governor. The development led to state-wide protests in major towns of the state that caused tension in Lafia, the state capital. The assembly later resolved to publish the notice in the media on July 17, after alleged failed attempt by the Clerk to personally serve the governor with the impeachment notice. Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Public Affairs, Malam Abdulhamid Kwarra, has insisted that Al-Makura was yet to be served with the ‘purported’ impeachment notice.Kwarra assured that the governor would respond appropriately as soon as he received the notice. "I arrived the Departure Immigration Desk at about 7.15am and presented my passport and forms. The Immigration staff did his processing and handed to the SSS official." Oby Ezekwesili. Let's analyze this, she arrived at the Immigration department at 7.15 which is 40 minutes to the time she was already in the plane. We are all Nigerians, and most us here in nairaland travel outside the country by air. We all know that 40 minutes is little of a time when compared with time we spend on the same process in airports all over the world. Let's say immigration took 15 minutes, DSS 20 minutes while the remaining 5 minutes is for the process of boarding the plane. Where is the detention here? THE BOTTOM LINE is that Oby Ezekwesili came very late and wanted to bully her way but was not allowed. I'm shocked a liar like her is called a PASTOR's WIFE, So unfortunate. |

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC), has declared that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar was keeping wrong company ahead of 2015 general elections. Atiku had on Sunday accused the PDP and the Presidency of creating division and animosity in the country by linking chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC),with terrorism. The former vice-president noted that such accusations by the ruling party was meant to divert attention from its failure to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians. But the national leadership of the PDP yesterday insisted that the APC has been using religion to foster narrow political ambition. A statement by its national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, submitted that while it would not want to join issues with the former vice-president, it would not be cowed, nor relent in its insistence “that the APC is a party of selfish, religious and ethnic bigots pursuing a supporter of APC ideology.“The APC and its leaders are embittered that the PDP machinery has been able to effectively expose and profile them as they truly are. They are in pains that Nigerians now know that the APC has no agenda, rather a platform for selfish individuals pursuing personal and parochial agenda using blackmail, propaganda and promotion of violence as means to achieve political control.“The APC leaders are bitter because they have been confronted with a PDP that is not afraid to label them in their true colour despite personal threats, media attacks and character assassination to cow and deter us.“On the issue of APC having an Islamic agenda, it is known to all and sundry that the PDP never labeled it as such. We merely, in our statement of January 7, 2014, drew the attention of Nigerians to the revelation by an Islamic cleric, Ambassador Yusuf Garba and the Religious Equity Promotion Council (REPC), that the APC was seeking to impose on Nigeria, an agenda akin to that of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.“In any case, we insist that it is completely out of place for any body to associate APC with Islam which is a religion of peace and does not preach violence, greed, destruction and lust for power which are the trademarks of the APC.“On the other hand, the PDP has committed Muslims who are worshipping Allah in truth more than the APC. Many of the founding fathers and critical stakeholders of the PDP are Muslims. The leader of the administration of the PDP is a committed and dedicated Muslim. We have responsible and committed Muslims as ministers, state governors, legislators and among our leaders at the national, state, local government and ward levels across the country.“In this regard, no party can be said to have better respect for Islam than the PDP. Our quarrel with the APC is its use of religion and ethnicity to canvass for votes and membership, a practice which is clearly inimical to the progress and development of our democracy.“In spite of any personal interest, the PDP as a platform remains better than the APC. Indeed, the APC is not an alternative. It has no vision and is completely lacking in ideology. It is unfortunate that our former members have chosen to board the wrong vehicle, indeed, ‘a one-chance bus’. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=73217 |
