Abagworo: Out of Nigerias 54 years of independence, we've spent nearly half as democracy and another slightly larger half under military rule. Out of the total of 26 years of democracy the North has ruled 12 years while the South will rule 14 years by 2015. The remaining 28 years of military rule have Gwari/Nupe/Angas ethnic groups of Middlebelt swallowing 18years. I skipped Murtala because his ethnicity is not clear. He was likely from Edo State.

Middlebelt groups - 18 years

Hausa/Fulani - 2 years

Yoruba - 3 years

Igbo - barely 1yr

Kanuri/Showa Arab - 5 years

If you can answer such, i will give you some reasons why the Ndidgo are not desperate for Presidency. cool
Thanks.
The North held presidency for 40 years of our national live, what did they get? Poverty, sickness, Illiteracy, backwardness, violence etc. North has been holding the power just for sake of it, without anything aside looting. Igbos, though not in power, has their aims and objectives in place, whoever can implement them is okay with them. Currently, Jonathan is not doing badly in that aspect.

danot1030: Igbo kwuenu. Is not a surprise that d igbos does not progress, they cannot produce a candidate for presidency, they will remain to be d last class citizen, government stooge, kitchen cabinets, for one reason. Hate syndrome, not that they just nurse hate at other tribes but they nurse it among themselves. I am sure d OP and d first to comments are igbos and their post is to spite their own son, I have read on NL and many other places how they openly rubbish and abuse their dignitaries, yorubas and hausas has their own who does not also live up to expectation but they react to them with restrain, its only the igbos that will celebrate the d public humiliation of their son in the open. For instance, wot Charly Boy did to Rochas was widely celebrated by the igbos, it cannot happen in other tribe. Tinubu was not in term wit Obasanjo during his regime, despite that Obasanjo unduly victimse Tinubu administration, Tinubu still went to receive him at the airport and he prostrated for him, again wen APC was formed even though Tinubu never agree wit Obasanjo he still led APC leaders to visit Obasanjo to receive his blessings, yorubas are against Omisore today cos to an average yoruba man he drag the dignity of yorubas on the ground wen he removed the late Chief Bola Ige cap in the public, though it is an unforgivable Offence as it appears but they still go about it wit caution, Charley Boy won't dare wot he did to Rochas wit Omisore, he will attract the wrath of yorubas because to yorubas there is a line u don't cross, but for the igbos their hate has beclowded their sense of dignity, their prominent men easily lose value.
Shaaarraaaaap there, was it out of respect for leaders that lead to Wild Wild West crisis? What of Abiola's sabotage of Awolowo presidential bid? Why yorubas in nairaland are castigating and insulting Omisore, Fayose, Abati, Okupe, BodeGeorge, Buruji etc.? Did yorubas support Obasanjo in 1999, is he not their leader. Yoruba and hausas has an age long tactics of using Igbo sons and daughters to scuttle the aspirations of Ndigbo. Okadigbo against Azikiwe, Jim Nwobodo against Ekwueme, Orji Kalu against Ekwueme 2nd attempt. Igbos has learned their bitter lessons hence the resolve to wipe out all cancers like Okorocha.

A political interest group, the Jonathan Trust Foundation (JTF),has said an honest assessment of the history of the Nigerian polity will clearly show that opposition political parties have thrived more under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking on the efforts being made at ensuring credible elections in the country, the group’s President, Mr. Abiodun Dada, said under Jonathan’s watch, the opposition parties had not only won elections but are controlling many state governments and seats in the National Assembly.
Dada, who addressed journalists in Abuja, insisted that under the circumstances President Jonathan cannot think of turning the country into a one-party state.Dada said: “The opposition party has even thrived more under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
Look at during President Olusegun Obasanjo, it was more like a PDP thing.
But now you have opposition parties holding states and people coming out to talk in National Assembly.
“Where were they during the Obasanjo administration? So saying that Jonathan is turning the country to into one-party state is a false claim.
I believe we should have opposition in Nigeria, and the opposition should not just be there condemning.
If you have to criticise, let it be constructive criticism.
”Asked whether Jonathan has not failed in terms of security, Dada said Nigerians need to win politically before the military can move into action to restore peace.
He explained that the security crisis was there by the time of Obasanjo, a retired general, he could not win the war.
Yar’Adua came and he could not do much.
Dada however advised that: “This is why we need to unite and fight this war.
Let us use politics to bring down this menace of insecurity in Nigeria.
”He recommended airspace security as a measure for wining the prolonged war posed by the Boko Haram sect.
While commenting on the impact that insecurity has had on the nation’s economy, especially in the north, Dada recalled that a few years ago he worked in the company of foreigners including Canadian, Australians, South Africans and Brazilians in Maiduguri, Sokoto, Kano, Adamawa and others.
According to him, government should tackle the issue of the Chibok girls politically by consistently negotiating to secure the release of the girls since application of force for their rescue might spell doom for the country.
He advised that the Nigerian military should make good use of the airspace in the fight against crime.“Let us equip the Nigerian Air force to be able to support the fight against crime and terrorism in Nigeria.
We need to have eyes in the air-having helicopters and cameras that can see all.
”“But now you cannot . It is so obvious now that even Nigerians cannot travel to the same towns. Until we stop the violence, no foreigner wants to come and invest in Nigeria, especially in the North,” he added.

whatlyf: Fellow Nairalanders and Guests

In view of the state of governance in our country, coupled with painstaking analysis and evaluation of the political and democratic situation plaguing our great country, it is very evident that our country is on a state of socio-political, institutional and infrastructural decay. I can no longer sit on the fence and watch as the present political rulers destroy our common wealth and that of our future.

On this note, I have decided to join well meaning Nigerians in rescuing the nation which has become a sinking ship under the control of the ruling People's Democratic Party.

I hereby declare my support for the opposition All Progressive Congress. I appeal to well meaning Nigerians and members of the Progressive community to intensify effort in the bid to actualise the Nigeria project. Our Constructive criticism should be intensified as well as reaching out to members of our respective local communities (and the internet community) for their support as 2015 poll approaches. I also appeal to members of the PDP family to refrain from dividing Nigerians along ethno-religious lines for the good of the country and our future.

God Bless Nigeria
APC....Change!!!

thegreatman4ww: That is on sure evidence that GEJ is not sincere to save Nigeria. Jonathan setting up committed whose recommendations he will never implement, even the Chibok committee recommendations are still in the paper, even the National Conference is a waste of time and occupier of time, their recommendations will still go the ways of their fore Fathers except not under Jonathan.
Meanwhile, he digging his political grace, as I am suspecting some personal disagreements between him and Mama Peace as evidence in the last First Family picture he releases to commensurate Fathers' Day.

Any competent individual can be filed for presidency next year under any political Party but not this selfish and corrupt Jonathan.

Those with mentality of Jonathan bid for second term should have a rethink. Because Nigeria problems is not beyond the power of FG if there is political will to do so. Another things this set of people shld know are:
1. Azazi public pronouncement of BHs are in PDP. That was his first public strong pronouncement as a National Security Advice, which lead to his dismissal and death by airplane crash whose black box is yet to be located and causes of the crash yet to be ascertained.
2. OBJ letter most especially the Snipers aspect. Though OBJ may not be saint but he is a careful talker and action taker, and for him to take his pen and write about a particular thing, know it for sure he is over 100% sure of what he wrote and say.
3. Last person, though may not be taken seriously, but standing on a letter that destroy his political career and make him go to exile voluntarily (even though he denied it through his spoke man) because of fear of his life no matter his political affiliation should not also be forgotten. I mean Nyako letter.
4. Rate of corruption and associating/pardoning criminals, digging forgotten (or I should say overlooked) cases to haunt down perceived enemies, etc needs to be consider before clamouring supports for reelection of this current administration.

Stopping here, but more to discern.
Please don't allow me to call you foolish lDIOT. Which of the accusations has been proven anywhere? Are you talking about AZAZI's backstabbing? OBJ's show of senility or Nyako’s foolishness. Till he died, did Azazi go any further in substantiating his claim? What of Obasanjo's bad belle letter, could he prove any of the allegations? NO. In fact, the Senate discovery show that both Obasanjo and Sanusi are born liars. Nyako’s allegations is as useless as him. We, the real Progressives knows the truth. So, keep the lies to yourself.

The Nigeria Football Federation has offered Stephen Keshi an improved contract of seven million naira a month (over$44,000) a top official told africanFootball.com.
In his first contract, which expired after the World Cup, the former Super Eagles captain earned five million naira monthly and has now demanded twice that amount.
Keshi, who was not considered for the South African post and the NFF are expected to finalise a new deal next week. The official who has been part of the contract talks said the “Big Boss” wishes to continue as Nigeria coach “We have had meetings with Keshi and the good news is that he is willing to continue as coach of the Super Eagles,” the official told africanFootball.com.“He is only concerned that most of the fringe benefits in his contract were not provided and demands better treatment from the Federation.
“I think the first step was a success and we will build on it because the (2015 Africa Cup of Nations) qualifiers are not far away.
”The Super Eagles will in early September begin the defence of the AFCON crown won in South Africa last year.
The African champions will play in a group comprising South Africa, Sudan and either Congo or Rwanda.
