Anita Odegwa Oyakhilome says she has now formally completed the process of divorcing Chris Oyakhilome, pastor and founder of Christ Embassy Church (also known as the Believers Love World), as her husband.

Filing for divorce in Suit No FD14D01650 on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK, Anita had said, through her lawyers, Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, that the marriage should be dissolved on the basis of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery” (inappropriate relationships with members of staff), which Oyakhilome continued to deny.

Similarly, she made the announcement of the divorce – and her withdrawal from the church – through her lawyers.

“We have been requested by Anita Oyakhilome to confirm that on the 8th February 2016 a decree absolute was pronounced in the High Court of Justice Principal Registry of the Family Division dissolving her marriage to Christian Onehirokpeana Oyakhilome,” read a statement issued by the law firm on its website.

“Anita Oyakhilome would like to confirm that she is no longer involved in or part of Christ Embassy AKA Believers loveworld inc.”

In August 2014, TheCable exclusively reported Anita’s allegations against her husband, but the pastor kept mum for more than a week before finally breaking his silence, branding the allegations “crazy” and “stupid”.

“I heard that some media houses – especially in Nigeria – are writing some things against me. All sorts of frivolous charges, that’s crazy,” he said on September 8 during the monthly global communion service of the church.

“You have to understand something about a man of God. A man of God is not just someone who worships God or preaches God. A man of God is handpicked by God, set on course by God. If you study the scriptures, you will not find one man of God go against God, sinning against God.

“The only things you might find will be a man of God, maybe in two different kinds of ways. Moses, for example; when he struck the rock twice, [he] was provoked by the anger of the people. [It was] not because he wanted to do something against the Lord. No man of God does something against the Lord.

“Are you hearing me? A man of God is set on a course; there is a type of life that he is given. Then you have a young man, a young prophet; he wasn’t named; he was deceived by another man of God and so he went in a direction that God said ‘don’t go’.

“That is the only kind of thing you find about a man of God when he misses the message of God or he acts beyond what God said. But a man of God settles himself in the fight against the world… like those writing those stupid things about me, that I did this and I did that.

“You don’t know who a man of God is. I don’t go in that direction. I wasn’t accused of the things you said, nor did I commit those stupid things that you said and I don’t need to go into that level in such discussions. Jesus Christ was accused by many – a lot of frivolous charges. There will always be those who would like for it to be true. But you know, in spite of the accusations against Jesus, It didn’t change who he was. It didn’t change him.

“There are preachers and there are men of God. I am not a preacher; I am a man of God and I go in the way I’m asked to go. It may cause some troubles with individuals but that’s not because I have done something wrong and when it comes to Reverend Anita, what I will say to you is ‘pray for her’.

“Don’t act like those people. If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing.

Hints that the troubled marriage had broken down first emerged in 2014 when Anita stopped ministering at the London headquarters, which she presides over along with other churches in Europe.

She also stopped contributing to Rhapsody of Realities, the highly successful Christian daily devotional, which is sold around the world and is a major source of income for the couple.

The daily devotional co-authored by the couple, Rhapsodies of Reality, is distributed globally, written in 550 languages, distributed in 242 countries and read by 100 million people across the world, as at 2014.

Much was read into the removal of Anita’s name from the devotional after the news of the divorce proceedings went public. A member of the church in the UK told TheCable that Anita was complaining that retaining her picture and profile in the booklet was creating the wrong impression that she was still contributing to it.

TheCable was told back in 2015 that the UK Central Family Court had given Oyakhilome and his wife the final go-ahead to end their marriage.

The family court, in issuing the “decree nissi”, could not issue the “decree absolute” because of the massive alimony involved which is outside of its jurisdiction. The assets to be shared between the couple are estimated at millions of pounds.

A ‘decree nisi’ is a document of ‘no objection’ from the court while a ‘decree absolute’ is the final legal pronouncement of the dissolution of the marriage.

Oyakhilome is the founder of Christ Embassy Church, one of Nigeria’s biggest denominations, and is also a popular televangelist. He is the president of Believers’ Love World Inc, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife is the vice-president.

The dissolved wedding is approximately half-a-decade old, and is blessed with two girls – Charlyn and Sharon.

Former governor of Abia state and Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate for the March 5 Abia North Senatorial District rerun, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has said he would be in pole position to address problems, which gave rise to agitation by pro-Biafra groups such as Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), if elected into the Senate.
Speaking at Igbere, his home town, during the last lap of his campaign tour of Abia North, Kalu said the issue of the pro-Biafra groups was so serious and delicate that it required someone with commanding respect from both divides like him to handle it to the satisfaction of all.
He said agitators must have their sentiments over certain things, which he promised to address to the benefit of all if he gets to the Senate.
“Agitators, whether they are in MASSOB, IPOB or any other group, have their sentiments and if I get to the Senate, I will establish a proper dialogue between them and the Federal Government so that the problem will be settled amicably.
“With President Muhammadu Buhari, I know, we are going to find a common ground so that justice can be done where there is injustice and the people will be happy,” he said
Kalu, who said he started championing Igbo cause when he was not yet into politics, stressed that although he would be going to the Senate to represent Abia North, he would look beyond that to continue to forge the cause of Ndigbo.
The business mogul said he could not thank the people enough for their love and belief in his person, stating that he had so many things to offer to the people of Abia North in particular and the country in general if he was elected senator, as according to him, what he did when he was governor was just a tip of the iceberg.
Also speaking before the cheering and dancing crowd, leaders like Chiefs Agu Uko Ukaogu; Joesco Joe (youth leader);Agu Ojukwu; Madukwe Ukaegbu (former deputy chief of staff to Abia deputy governor) and Mascot Uzor Kalu (former chief of staff to Abia governor) and Kalu’s younger brother, described Kalu as not only a true son of Abia North but that of Nigeria, who Ndigbo needed most at the Senate.
They said Kalu did much for the development of the area when he was governor stressing that this is the time for them to pay him back in good measure.
Earlier, the campaign train was in Umuhu Ezechi, where the rally was turned into a carnival as the people danced and hugged the former governor, who they described as their true son.
At Umuhu Ezechi, leaders of the people including Onwukwe Uwakwe, Peter Onyike, Innocent Ogo and Charles Igbe, all attested to the landmark projects Kalu executed in the community when he was governor of which they said remained in the area for people to see.
“We are not talking about projects his successors built only on TV, Radio and Newspapers but were not seen with the naked eyes; we are talking about projects that are there for all to see nine years after he left office,” they said.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed an application by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biaf‎ra, Nnamdi Kanu, for the release of certain items, including his British and Nigeria passports, which are in the custody of the Department of State Service.

Justice James Tsoho dismissed the application made orally by Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Chuks Muouma (SAN), who had sought the release of the items because they would not be needed by the prosecution since they were not listed as part of exhibits to be tendered.

Apart from the passports, other items which Muouma sought to be released to the IPOB leader who is currently in detention at Kuje prison along with his two co-accuse, are cash sums of $2,200 and N87,000.

Comparing nigerian law and other countries is wrong. Nnamdi kanu has been given a fair hearing in court and there have been no official announcement regarding secret trial, so i wonder what the group are making noise for, why nt wait and see with ur eyes rather than blowing false alarm.
Remember UWAZURUIKE and HENRY OKAH were given fair trial bt ended up in prison, because they were refused bail, so i dont see the govt giving Kanu secret trial, it is waste of time.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has condemned the recent criticism of its decision to transfer a Priest of its Enugu Diocese, Ejike Mbaka.
Mr. Mbaka was transferred from his former parish, Christ the Kind, to Our lady’s Parish Emene, in the same diocese.
The transfer of the priest from his parish of over a decade, where he introduced the popular Adoration-prayer Ministries Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN) met with various criticisms from those who regarded it as a punitive measure by the church against Mr. Mbaka.
Critics had at various points attributed the transfer to Mr. Mbaka’s repeated sermons where he condemned the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, and proclaimed a revelation that the former President will lose the 2015 presidential election.
Mr. Mbaka had not only stated ahead of the 2015 election that Mr. Jonathan would lose, but condemned the former president’s performance in office particularly on corruption matters.
When Mr. Jonathan lost in the election, Mr. Mbaka’s courage was praised by President Muhammadu Buhari, who received the priest at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The fiery priest’s subsequent transfer was condemned by critics including the South East chapter of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, who claimed Mr. Mbaka was being victimised.
In its earlier reaction to controversies trailing the transfer, Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Ralph Madu, told PREMIUM TIMES that the transfer is a “normal church procedure.”
Addressing the church at its opening session of the CBCN on Sunday, President of the Conference, Ignatius Kaigama, condemned Mr. Mbaka’s prophecies stressing that the church and particularly its priests and leaders must avoid the what he regarded as the “melodramatic displays that resembles modern broadway shows.”
“Those priests who tend to compete with so-called trendy pastors to dream dreams, see visions and utter prophecies are reminded that not all dreams, visions and prophecies are revelations from God.
“They are sometimes the product of one’s psychological disposition, brain waves or even the result of mental fatigue and should not be confused with absolute reality,” said Mr. Kaigama, a bishop.
He called on leaders in all facets of the nation to work for the unity of Nigeria.
“We need to think positively about the Nigerian project and act in a manner that builds rather than destroys,” he stated.
Also in his brief remark at the introduction of guests, the Assistant Secretary General of the CBCN and Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Felix Ajakaiye, said, “When I am transferred I am transferred; no sensation should be attached.”
Speaking earlier at the sermon, during the opening mass, Bishop of Abuja Arch Diocese, John Onaiyekan, said Nigerians have a right to be angry at the ‘criminal corruption,’ which led to diversion of funds meant for the purchase of arms, stressing that it is the hope of all well meaning Nigerians that such fraudulent acts are now a thing of the past.
“Our gallant troops must never again be left with inadequate resources to carry out the dangerous acts imposed on them on our behalf,” he said.
Mr. Onaiyekan called on the current administration to keep up its legal efforts to thoroughly investigate the crimes of the past, transparently prosecute accused persons and hold the guilty accountable according to the law.
He reiterated his earlier call for collaboration with the church and religious bodies in the effort to bring about a transformation of minds and action by Nigerians.
As part of its annual practice, Mr. Onaiyekan said the CBCN will make suggestions at the end of its session on January 17, on ways to move the nation forward.

Labour, Health and Human Rights Development Centre has condemned plans by the federal government to secretly try Radio Biafra Director and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and two others, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
The trio are facing charges of alleged treason, maintaining unlawful society, possession of firearms, among others.
Government has already asked a Federal High Court in Abuja for backing to carry out a secret trial and ruling fixed for February.
But the centre in a statement by its Executive Director, Ayodele Akele, said the activists are campaigning for the self determination of their indigenous people of Biafra, which is lawful and as enshrined in the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights,(Ratification and Enforcement Act)Article 20 to which Nigerian State is a signatory.
It said: “Secret trial under any guise is totally unacceptable, we condemn it in strongest term and unequivocally any attempt to try Nnamdi Kanu and co or any other Nigerian for that matter in camera or in secrecy!
