Group petitions Ikpeazu over dumping of IPOB members’corpses in pits

[/size]
By Emeka Mamah, Anayo Okoli, Frank Igata & Chimaobi Nwaiwu
Enugu—The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday welcomed the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari to the effect that Nigeria would not tolerate Biafra, pointing out that Biafra would also not tolerate Nigeria.

Spokespersons of IPOB, Emma Mmezu and Dr Clifford Iroanya who spoke for the organisation in a statement entitled “Response to Ohanaeze and Buhari’s disparaging remarks about Biafra on Al Jazeera,” said: “We wish to reiterate for record purposes that our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not mandated Ohanaeze or any youth group to negotiate for his release.

“The agitation for Biafra is a long and arduous process and the entire IPOB family all over the world understands this approach as espoused by our detained leader.

“We have not come to merely agitate, we have come to restore or die in the process. Some people think we are joking or can be easily dissuaded from this divine path that God-Chukwu Okike Abhiama has mandated us to follow.

“Any negotiation on Biafra must be led by Nnamdi Kanu and nobody else. If roads, bridges and a few junior staff at Aso Rock are our problems as Biafrans, then IPOB worldwide can fund such infrastructural development alone and very soon, we shall do it. Our quest is Biafra- nothing more, nothing less.

“On the issue of Buhari’s Aljazeera interview on Biafra, we welcome his comments because Biafra would not also tolerate Nigeria. Lord Lugard created Nigeria not Chukwu Okike Abhiama, God Almighty. So, like USSR, it will collapse. We, the IPOB Worldwide have decided not to go back on the quest for restoration of Biafra. Nigeria is not bigger than USSR just as Buhari is not stronger than Michael Gobachev. Buhari can kill Biafrans as he did during the 1967 to 1970 civil war, but this time, it will not be the same.”

Meantime, a palpable trepidation is rife in the South-East geopolitical zone following yesterday’s warning from the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, directing all Fulani herdsmen engaged in pastoral activities to retreat to the northern part of the country as their safety can longer be guaranteed.

The pro-Biafra groups said it has become imperative for the Fulani herdsmen to leave the region as it can no longer, ”tolerate the systematic killing of our people and invasion of our land in the name of cattle grazing.”

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Enugu yesterday, MASSOB Leader, Uchenna Madu, revealed that it has mobilized its allies to ensure that its directive was heeded.

According to Madu, ”we can no longer tolerate the systematic killing of our people and invasion of our land in the name of cattle grazing. Seventy per cent of Fulani herdsmen in the eastern region are Northern-trained secret army assigned for devastation and secret killing of Biafrans.

“MASSOB in collaboration with IPOB and other affiliates have vowed to protect Biafra land with enthusiastic spirit and motivation from foreign invaders in any disguise. As we have resolved to protect Biafra land, we warn Arewa secret army in disguise as Fulani herdsmen to concentrate on grazing with their cows as any further attack on our people shall be squarely returned.”

On the actualization of Biafra, MASSOB leader described President Muhammadu Buhari’s stance on the futility of Biafra secession from Nigeria as the,”ranting of a frustrated man who has lost major focus on international/diplomatic politics.

“The level of Biafra actualization has gone beyond Buhari’s imagination and comprehension. As long as Ndigbo and easterners in general live, Biafra can never be subdued by Nigeria. We advise the international community to ignore Buhari’s diplomatic propaganda against Biafra.

“We will continue to toe the line of non-violence in our pursuit for Biafra and will not lower our guard to continue to press for the release Nnamdi Kanu,Ben Onwuka and other pro-Biafra detainees in prisons scattered all over the country”.

Preserving remains of killed IPOB

Peeved by the recent killing of some people believed to be members of agitating Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, whose corpses were dumped in some burrow pits in parts of Aba, Abia state, allegedly by security operatives, a civil rights group, International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law, has written to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to rescue the corpses and preserve them for proper autopsy that would aid investigation.

The group also charged the governor to ensure “that justice be done to the victims, their families and the people of Abia State and Nigerians as a whole.”

The group in the letter, signed by its chairman, Comrade Emeka Umeagbalasi, urged Governor Ikpeazu to urgently intervene and safely secure the corpses to aid investigation.

“Sadly, the corpses have remained abandoned and un-evacuated by the government of Abia State till date. The corpses were covered with leaves and soaked with chemical substances strongly suspected to be a mixture of raw acid and embalming chemicals; for the purposes of disfigurement, erasing traces and making the corpses odourless.

“As at our last checks on Sunday, February 28, 2016, and Wednesday March 2, 2016, the 13 corpses were still there. There is also discovery of another three corpses of murdered citizens, strongly suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Abia State.

“The purpose of this letter of ours is to formally bring to your attention the carnage stated above and to demand that justice be done to the victims, their families and the people of Abia State and Nigerians as a whole,” part of the letter said.

PoliticsBuhari Drags Nigeria Into Saudi-led Islamic Coalition. by PhockPhockMan(op): 3:22pm On Mar 06, 2016
Nigeria will join the Saudi Arabia led coalition of Muslim countries against terrorism, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.
Mr. Buhari, a Muslim from the Northern Nigeria, stated this in an interview with Aljazeera.
“We are part of it because we have got terrorists in Nigeria that everybody knows which claims that they are Islamic” the Septuagenarian said in reference to Boko Haram, the group whose activities has caused the death of about 20,000 people since 2009.
Mr. Buhari’s decision to join the coalition announced by Saudi Arabia last December appears to have changed after a meeting with the Saudi King, Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz.
According to a statement signed by his spokesperson, the Nigerian leader had expressed reluctance to join the coalition when he met the Saudi king.
“Even if we are not a part of it, we support you,” he was quoted to have said at the meeting held in Saudi Arabia in February.
The Aljazeera interview is believed to have been held in Qatar, where Mr. Buhari visited after his trip to Saudi Arabia.
Many analysts have described the coalition as Saudi Arabia’s way to challenge Iran’s growing influence in global Islamic affairs. Saudi Arabia is the leader of Sunni Muslims while Iran is the base of Shia Muslims worldwide. Most Muslims in Nigeria are Sunni and the country’s military recently attacked a Shia procession killing hundreds, according to Human Rights Watch, after the military claimed they planned to assassinate the Army chief.
“We must not let Sunni and Shiite states furtively and covertly turn Nigeria into another Middle East battleground,” Adeolu Ademoyo, a Nigerian lecturer at Cornell University stated in opposition to the coalition.
The decision to join the Islamic coalition also goes against the calls by many Nigerians who asked that the country not join the coalition.
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, had in December cautioned against joining the 34-member coalition, called ISMAT, announced by Saudi Arabia.
“This singular gesture of the Buhari government betrays so much, and tends to confirm our fears that underneath everything this government is doing, there is an agenda with strong Islamic undertones, aimed at undermining Nigeria’s pluralistic character and neutrality regarding government’s affiliation to any one religion,” Vanguard Newspapers quoted the coalition of Nigerian Churches as saying in a statement by its General Secretary, Musa Asake.
PREMIUM TIMES had also warned against joining the coalition. In an editorial published in January, this newspaper stated that “Nigeria should not join ISMAT, created specifically under pressure to fight ISIS.”
“The national interests of Saudi Arabia are not Nigeria’s national interests. On the sound and legitimate issue of fighting terrorism locally, regionally and globally, Saudi Arabia has shown that her interests come first before any commitment to fight terrorism.”
However, defending his decision, Mr. Buhari told his interviewer that, “If there is an Islamic coalition to fight terrorism, Nigeria will be part of it because we are casualties of Islamic terrorism.”
When asked how the coalition would work in Nigeria’s interest, the president said it would be within the framework of Lake Chad basin coalition against Boko Haram which comprises of Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin.
“I don’t think we need to tell the press the details of that” he said in relation to the number of troops to de deployed by the Lake Chad coalition that would be part of the Saudi-led coalition.”
When questioned about whether or not his decision would go well with Nigerian Christians who make up about half of the country’s population, Mr. Buhari said, “I have just told you it is the Boko Haram itself that declared loyalty to ISIL. Now, ISIL is basically based in Islamic countries. If there is a coalition to fight terrorism, why can’t Nigeria be part of it.”
“Why can’t those Christians that complain go and fight terrorism in Nigeria or fight the militants in the South. It is Nigeria that matters, not the opinions of some religious bigots,” he added.
The Nigerian leader denied seeking to change Nigeria’s multi-religious nature by his actions saying “How can I change the religious identity of Nigeria?”

PoliticsDSS ‘raids’ Ekiti Assembly, ‘arrests’ 4 Lawmakers. by PhockPhockMan(op): 7:24pm On Mar 05, 2016

The whereabouts of some members of the Ekiti state house of assembly has been unknown since Friday when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly invaded the assembly.

According to Kola Oluwawole, speaker of the assembly, the visit of the security personnel took the lawmakers unawares.

Oluwawole claimed that men of the secret police shot sporadically within the assembly complex, resulting into tension and disruption of crucial activities.

The speaker described the incident as “the clandestine plot by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government to destabilise the Ekiti state government”.

“Yesterday, the house of assembly chamber was invaded by armed men of the DSS, not minding that various committees of the house were meeting,” he said at a press conference.

“More than of them [sic], who were armed to the teeth, were shooting sporadically into the air within the assembly complex.

“Staff of the house of assembly had to scamper for safety. At the end of the commotion created, we discovered that four of our members could not be found.

“It was only this morning that we were able to establish that Honourable Afolabi Akanni, representing Efon Constituency, was abducted and taken to Abuja. Whereabouts of three other members is still unknown as we speak, and reasons for the invasion and abduction of our members are not known.”

Oluwawole said the assembly will not succumb to intimidation or any form of harassment, alleging that there were plans to arrest top government officials in the state based on the critical stance of Ayodele Fayose, governor of the state, against the president.

He compared the situation to the alleged invasion of the Akwa Ibom state government house by the DSS in 2015, wondering why the service has not told the public what made it storm Akwa Ibom.

The speaker said he and his colleagues were fully prepared and will resist any attempt to use the assembly to carry out any “ungodly” act.

“We got it on good authority that the script now being acted by the DSS is part of the APC and President Buhari’s clandestine plot to cripple the Ekiti state government by arresting and detaining top functionaries of the government,” he said.

“The plot is to harass, intimidate and embarrass top officials of the Ayodele Fayose-led government because of his critical stance on the Buhari-led government.

“We are aware that 18 of our members have been penciled in for harassment and the game plan is to harass them to submission, with a view to coercing them into signing an already prepared notice of impeachment of the governor and his deputy.

“However, we wish to inform those orchestrating the harassment and intimidation of officials of the Ekiti state government, especially honourable members of the state house of assembly that this is 2016 and not 2006. The same tactics used 10 years ago to truncate democracy in Ekiti State will not work this time.

“We, therefore, wish to tell the APC agents of political instability that this time around, this house of assembly will not be available for any ungodly use. We also wish to remind Nigerians of how in September last year, the federal government invaded the Akwa Ibom State Government House with armed men of the DSS.

“Up till today, Nigerians are yet to be told officially why, in a federal system of government in which federating units enjoy some degree of autonomy, the government house occupied by a governor who enjoys the same immunity enjoyed by the president as provided by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was invaded by armed men of the DSS.

“While we are not afraid of persecution from anyone or government agency, including the DSS, we wish to state that the level at which the Buhari-led Federal Government is taking political vendetta and muzzling of opposition both in the Peoples PDP and within the APC is dangerous to the survival of democracy in the country.

Nigeria is not a banana republic that can be ruled anyhow by anyone and Mr Lawal Daura and his men, who are playing exactly the same role played between 1984 and 1985 by the National Security Organisation (NSO) under Lawal Rafindadi should know that this reign of brute force over constitutional democracy will fail. This is because we have seen them operate before and here they are now, trying to take us back to that inglorious era of dictatorship and barbarism where the DSS (then NSO) was used to oppress Nigerians, throwing them in jail without trial. This time around, we are in a democracy that can never accommodate that 1984 era of draconian rule.”

A TIME TO DECIDE

Today there was a clash between Yoruba and Fulani youths in Ketu, Lagos state in which a number of people on both sides and some of our security agents were apparantly killed.
Just a few days ago over 300 people were killed by well-armed Fulani herdsmen in Agatu, Benue state.
Throughout the country Fulani militias and herdsmen are wreaking havoc and are slaughtering their compatriots for one reason or the other.
Worse of all is the fact that our Fulani-led Federal Government and our Fulani-led Armed Forces are killing thousands of young igbos in the east simply because of their support for Nnamdi Kanu and their call for the establishment of the independent sovereigh state of Biafra.
As all this is going on our economy has ground to a halt and the war against Boko Haram and islamist terror is still raging.
Today Nigeria has the dubious distinction of having within its borders the first and the fourth most deadly terrorist organisations in the world according to the Global Terror Index.
People are being slaughtered, abducted, pillaged, kidnapped and raped all over the country on a daily basis by the same group of vandals and heartless beasts simply because they believe that their own is now in power and that they can get away with it yet no-one appears prepared to do anything about it or call a spade a spade.
In the light of all these facts the question on everyone's lips is what is to be done? We all hope and pray for peace and unity in our country but judging by the way things are going perhaps the first question that we have to address is whether we really have a country at all and, if we agree that we do, whether it will or can remain united and as one for much longer.
The rise of radical islam and the use of terror to achieve the objectives of those who espouse and believe in it has changed the world forever. Our country cannot be exempted or left out of this. We have changed forever as well and things can never be the same in Nigeria again.
Those that are in power in our country today appear to have a soft-spot for the terrorists and for reasons best known to himself our President has simply refused to condemn the murderous activities of the Fulani herdsmen and militias.
This is probably because he is, and has been for many years, the Life Patron of the Fulani Cattle Rearers Association: which is the umbrella organisation of the Fulani herdsmen and militias.
Then there is the sad and pitiful case of Ese Oruru in which the Fulani Emir of Kano played an unspecified and unclear role in the abduction, forced islamisation, rape, torture and kidnapping of a 14 year old southern christian girl whilst our security agencies turrned a blind eye to the whole thing and refused to rescue her for months.
It has been alleged that the girl was kept against her will at the Emir's palace and that one way or the other she was used as a sex slave and she came out pregnant. Despite all this the police have refused to pick him up and compel him to answer the necessary questions that could have cleared the air.
All this because "his" people are in power and they believe that thay can get away with anything and everything, including pedophilia, slavery and, in many cases, murder.
Nothing reflects the degeneration to which our country and our values have been subjected to better than this.
Sadly even the PDP, which is the leading opposition party and which ought to serve as a rallying point for change and keep the government on their toes appears to have faltered and capitulated.
They have appointed as their National Chairman a man that has questionanle antecedents and that has questions to answer about his role in the evolution and formation of Boko Haram.
The warped logic of those that imposed him is that in order to fight a terror-loving party like the APC you must also have a terrorist leading yours. I cannot and will never accept such views or subscribe to such reprehensible tactics.

The good news is that he will only be there for three months if he sticks to the agreement but whichever way you look at it it does not look as if the opposition PDP, with the present crop of leaders that constitutes its National Working Commitee, is capable of liberating us from the bondage that we have found ourselves in or bringing the nation any hope of deliverance or joy.
It is time for us to do what we must do to save our country and if those that believe that they own it refuse to be reasonable and fair to the rest of us, perhaps we should consider the possibility of redefining her.
The Nigeria of today reminds me of Yugoslavia before its civil war and breaking up into five separate countries. We are living in very dangerous times.
The Fulanis are like the Serbs of old in Yugoslavia: dominating, cunning and relentless. They have their own ethnic and religious militias and they are also fully in power. The only difference is that the Serbs were christians whilst the Fulani are muslims.
They both used their religious faith to muster support and effect their purpose. One day though the yoke will be broken and we shall be free.
I conclude this contributiom with the following words which I believe are prophetic.
O ye sons of Futa Jalo and ye daughters of the Vulture mountain and bitter waters: your princes and kings shall be exposed and brought to heel and you shall pay a heavy price for your oppression, wickedness and many sorceries.
