Eze Ndigbo arraigned for terrorism in Lagos

The Lagos State Government has arraigned the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, Frederick Nwajago, for alleged terrorism.

He was arraigned before the state high court sitting Tafawa Balewa Square on nine counts, in which he was accused of “attempt to do acts of terrorism, participation in terrorism, meeting to support a proscribed entity, attempt to finance an act of terrorism and preparation to commit an act of terrorism, preferred against him by the state government.”

Makesense Pm reported that Nwajagu was arrested on April 1 following a viral video, in which he threatened to invite members of the  Indigenous People of Biafra to Lagos to secure properties of Igbo people living in the state.

In the49-second viral video,  Nwajago was heard saying, “IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that. We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning, and in the afternoon.




“When they discover that we have our security before they will come, they will know that we have our men there. I am not saying a single word to be hidden

had earlier been taken before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, which made an order that he should be remanded in the prison custody.

He was on Tuesday taken before Justice Yetunde Adesanya, where he was arraigned by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

A Deputy Director in the Ministry of Justice, Jonathan Ogunsanya, who represented the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, told the court that the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate violated the provision of sections 403(2) and 12(c), 18, 21, 29 & 12(a) of the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

When the charges were to him, the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The judge adjourned till July 4 for commencement of trial.

However, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, reacting to his statements, said the command would resist IPOB presence in the state.

Davido celebrates as Supreme Court upholds Adeleke’s election victory

Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has reacted to the victory of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Supreme Court.

I was born blind actually- Singer, Chidinma reveals

Nigerian singer and songwriter turned gospel minister, Chidinma Ekile, has revealed that she was born blind.

Chidinma, who quit secular music to become a gospel artist in 2021, made this revelation in a video on her YouTube page.

Ronke Oshodi Oke narrates how daughter's friends allegedly poisoned her

Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi Oke has accused her daughter's college of negligence, as she recounted in a video posted on her Instagram page how her daughter was poisoned, possibly by her friends or roommates.

Three weeks ago, at 3:45 am, she received a distress call informing her that her daughter had been hospitalised after drinking hypo. Upon arrival, Ronke found her daughter in distress, crying and appearing dishevelled.

Although it is unclear how her daughter came to drink hypo, Ronke suspects that her friends or roommates were attempting to poison her. Ronke explained that she had purchased a non-transparent water bottle for her daughter to take to school, which she drank from using a straw, making it possible for her to be poisoned.

She said in Yoruba, "About 3 weeks ago, they called me around 3:45 am to say that my daughter Jummy drank hypo. I went to the school, and I met her crying; she wasn’t herself. It seems like her friends kept hypochlorite in her water to kill her. They poured it inside her bottle, which I gave her. I intentionally do not want to mention the name of the school because I don’t want to ruin it."

The actress did not disclose the name of the institution but warned them not to harm her children, stating that she would not take it lightly if there was a repeat occurrence.

14-year-old kills eight children, security guard in Serbia school shooting

Eight children and a security guard have been confirmed dead after a 14-year-old boy opened fire in a school in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital.

Veselin Milić, Belgrade police spokesperson, said the suspect called authorities to turn himself in and waited in the schoolyard to be arrested.

Milić said the head teacher called the police on Wednesday morning to say a child had entered the school with a weapon and started to shoot and officers were immediately deployed.

Several children and staff including a 53-year-old teacher were wounded.

‘IT WAS A PLANNED ATTACK’

Milić said the attacker planned the shooting a month in advance.

The shooter, on his way into the school, left his bag where he prepared four Molotov cocktails, the spokesperson added.

The gun recovered from the scene was a 9mm taken from his father’s flat.

He said the 14-year-old drew up a plan of the school entrance and exit – found on his desk – and designated priority targets.

The shooter, according to police, also strategised on how to get into particular classrooms and how to kill each child by classroom number.

Milić said the attacker may have chosen the history classroom, where the shooting happened because it was near the entrance.

“The sketch looks like something out of a video game or horror film,” the spokesperson said.

Branko Ružić, Serbia’s education minister, expressed shock over the incident which occurred in a country where mass shootings are extremely rare. Makesense pm rreports,

He said Serbia is “sadly in this part of the world where things like these are happening more often”.

“There is evidently a cancer – the influence of the internet, video games, western values,” the minister said.

“It’s obvious to all of us that we need short-term solutions and systemic change.”

Lagos govt demolishes illegal structures on Lekki coastal road

The state government disclosed that the coastal road is to serve as an alternate route to motorists along the axis when completed.

The demolition exercise, led by the Chairman of the agency, Shola Jejeloye, followed eviction notice served on the illegal occupants who had constructed makeshift structures, some of which were constructed right under high tension cables running through the area.

Jejeloye explained that the shanties, which had earlier been mapped out by the state government served as a haven for criminals who make use of such locations as hideouts to carryout there nefarious acts.
He said: “This is the third major enforcement we are carrying out in this very location as we were here two years ago and even last year. Makesense Pm reports,

“It would have been a more serious incident if not for the quick intervention of the Lagos State Fire Service who put out the fire which started off from the shanties.

Bus Evacuating Nigerian Students From Sudan Catches Fire

A bus conveying stranded Nigerians from Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, caught fire in the early hours of Monday.

“One of the buses conveying some 50 Nigerian students from Sudan with a tag number (Katsina 1) heading to Port Sudan as part of the second batch of FGN evacuation got damaged due to excessive heat from one of the vehicle’s tyres.

“Dr Hashim Idris Na’Allah, the chairman of the Nigerian Elders’ Forum in Sudan, was one of the passengers in the said bus, which contained a total of 50 students (49 males, 1 female).

“The incident happened around 2:30am Sudan time.

“The driver stopped the bus near an RSF checkpoint, just before the tire exploded causing a fire to start.

Forty out of the 50 passengers were later distributed to the other buses evacuating the students, while the remaining passengers spent the night where the incident happened alongside the driver at the RSF checkpoint. Makesense Pm reports,

“The students said the RSF really did their possible best to help the passengers and offered them with cups of tea in the morning before they left,” Sani Aliyu, who is in Sudan disclosed.

However, they have continued their journey. Over 1000 Nigerians are being evacuated through the Port Sudan route following the difficulties faced in getting the first batch of evacuees across the Egypt borders.

The stranded Nigerians have spent five days at the borders as the Egyptian officials denied them access into the country where flights are already waiting to airlift them to Nigeria.

Egypt finally opens borders to Nigerians after Buhari’s intervention

According to the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Egyptian borders were opened to the evacuees after President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this in response to a report about NIDCOM's earlier update that the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) were ready to bring home Nigerians caught in the Sudan crisis but the evacuees were refused entry at Egypt's Aswan border.

In a tweet on Monday, May 1, 2023, the agency said, “The Egyptian border still not opened for our students, but the Nigeria Airforce is ready, the NAF C 130 landed in Aswan Airport, and they say “We will not leave without our students”

Six hours after, the agency tweeted that the North African country eventually opened its border to Nigerians after President Buhari’s intervention. Makesense PM reports,

“With the intervention of President Buhari, Egypt has finally opened its border to Nigerians fleeing Sudan. With an Airforce plane already on the ground in Aswan, Egypt, the processing of the first set of evacuees will begin” the tweet reads.

A video of a lady engaging in milk crate challenge is making the round on social media and by extension generated mixed reactions among netizens.

Undoubtedly, milk crate challenge has been one of the trending conversations online, while many of the videos shared widely online have been of violent falls, a few have highlighted people who were able to conquer the Milk Crate Challenge without toppling over. One woman successfully climbed a pyramid while wearing heels.

Also, falling during the challenge has led to a variety of injuries, including dislocated shoulders and rotator cuff tears, ACL tears, meniscus tears, broken wrists and even spinal cord injuries.

In the video making the rounds online, a lady participated in the milk crate challenge and by extension resulted in almost a dead end for her.

When the lady gets to the middle of the milk crate challenge, she absolutely loses her control then falls from the top of the quite long crate to the ground state.

Upon falling on the ground, the lady fainted and the people recording had to stop the content they are creating then rushed toward her.

FG plans to increase tax on tobacco products to 50 per cent — Official

The Federal Government says it will increase excise tax on tobacco products from 30 per cent ad-valorem to 50 per cent as part of measures to control tobacco smoking in the country.

Head, Tobacco Control Unit, Noncommunicable Disease Division, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Mangai Malau, disclosed this on Tuesday at the National Tobacco Control Budget Advocates Meeting in Abuja.

Malau presented a paper titled

“Overview of Tobacco Control Funding/Budgeting in Nigeria: Why Tobacco Control Budgeting and Funding?

He said that presently, the Federal Government imposed a 30 per cent tax on tobacco products but its target was to increase to 50 per cent in order to meet the World Health Organization standard.

According to him, funding for tobacco control must come majorly from taxation and there is also a need for relevant stakeholders to apply tax measures rightly if they are to address the issues of tobacco control in the country.

“In effectively controlling tobacco and tobacco products in Nigeria, funding is a critical component. The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control recognises this and clearly stipulates in Article 26.

“It states that parties shall provide financial support in respect of its national activities intended to achieve the objective of the Convention, in accordance with its national plans, priorities and programmes.

“It is also important to state that funding is a major provision of the National Tobacco Control Act.

“Section eight of the Act, provides for the Tobacco Control Fund, which shall be used to fund tobacco control activities programmes and projects,” Malau said.

According to him, this meeting is therefore important as it will seek for better funding for tobacco control, in order for Nigeria to meet the objectives of the WHO FCTC and the NTC Act.

He said, “Tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke is a leading cause of mortality, morbidity, disability and impoverishment in the world.

“It is the greatest risk factor for non-communicable diseases like hypertension, stroke, cancers, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

According to him, WHO said: “tobacco causes more than eight million deaths annually around the world, with more than seven million of those deaths as a result of direct tobacco use.

“And about 1.2 million resulting from non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

He said that tobacco smoke contained over 7,000 chemicals, of which hundreds were toxic and about 70 are known to cause cancer.

“Also, there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke and even a brief exposure can be harmful to one’s health.

“Concerned about the threat from tobacco, Nigeria signed and ratified the WHO FCTC, in 2004 and 2005 respectively. In 2015, the National Tobacco Control Act was enacted and its Regulations was passed in 2019,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Nigeria Tobacco Control Alliance (NTCA), Mr Akinbode Oluwafemi, stressed the need for Civil Society Organisations to advocate for more budgetary allocation for tobacco control in the country.

Oluwafemi urged CSOs to begin the budgetary advocacy in July when the government’s ministries, departments and agencies would commence the 2024 budgets presentation and defence.

According to him, it is also important that CSOs form alliances while carrying out the advocacy.

Husband tackles Lagos hospital as wife dies after childbirth

A man, Jeremiah Akinsetemi, has accused the management and medical practitioners at the Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital of negligence resulting in the death of his wife, Rachael, who got delivered of a baby at the hospital in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.

Makesense gathered that Akinsetemi, who works at a factory as a technical operator, returned home from work on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, and met his nine-month pregnant wife writhing in labour pain and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Akinsetemi said while at the hospital, some medical practitioners assessed his wife’s condition and admitted her to facilitate the baby’s delivery.

He said, “I met the doctor who directed us to the gynaecologist. We also met with the hospital’s MD who asked us to do a scan and the result indicated that she was 40 weeks plus some days and she was placed on observation in the hospital.

“Later on, they said my wife’s cervix was not open yet and that it has to be open for her to give birth. To soften her cervix, they inserted something inside her but her cervix did not open.

“But the gynaecologist, while assessing her condition, did some calculations and said she was just 40 weeks and told us not to allow the hospital to put pressure on us to do a Cesarean section and that some women give birth two weeks before or after.”

The bereaved husband said things, however, took another turn when the Managing Director of the hospital, said there was a need for a surgical operation to be performed on his wife for the sake of the baby, adding that because of the gynaecologist’s advice, he left the hospital and took his wife to the Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital.

He said, “When we got there, they placed her on observation till the following day. In the morning, I returned home to do something when the MD of the hospital called to inform me that they would need to operate on my wife because her cervix was not opening despite being in labour.

“I discussed it with my wife, told her they are professionals and that since her cervix was not opening and she is feeling pains that deprived her of sleeping, I needed to sign the papers. I signed the papers and in less than 10 minutes, she delivered by herself without the surgery.

“I met them cleaning up the baby and also observed that my wife was bleeding and they were transfusing a pint of blood into her. But as I saw the rate at which the blood was flowing into my wife, I asked the nurse if that was the only pint of blood the hospital had and she said yes.”

Akinsetemi said the medical practitioners told her that they already called the blood bank for more blood, adding that when they could not get any blood, he informed his neighbour, Rolint Ugele, who is a universal donor and he agreed to donate blood for his wife.

He said, “But the hospital doesn’t have what they can use to collect the blood and screen it. Later on, they said the bleeding had stopped and that my wife was fine. I started informing people that she had given birth but suddenly, I saw the doctor and nurse rushing in and out and when I asked what happened again, they said the blood was gushing out again.

“The pint of blood they were giving her had finished and blood was rushing out. I complained and they said she would be fine and that they had called for an ambulance. When the ambulance came, we carried her into it as she was on oxygen. But before we got to Ayinke House in LASUTH, she stopped breathing.

“My wife gave birth around 10am, and after putting her corpse in the mortuary, I returned to the private hospital around 8pm for my newborn who was not given anything to eat other than the glucose. I took my baby away but before I left, I said if my wife did not give birth herself, they planned to operate her with only a pint of blood and with no ambulance on the ground, what would happen if there was an emergency?”

The Managing Director of the Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital where Rachael delivered her baby, Dr Lilian Obianuju, while reacting to the development, said Rachael presented at the hospital with a reduction in fetal movement, adding that despite informing her and her husband that a Caesarean Section was needed to be performed to bring out the baby and save her life, the couple declined and left the hospital on February 10.

She said, “They requested for discharge and we told them the implication of their action and she was discharged and we still gave her a one-week appointment to return for a follow-up but they never showed up until after eight weeks with a history of labour pain.

“When they returned, I was around that night and I told the husband that his wife needed to have an emergency CS done that night but he refused and told me that the hospital they came from gave them an option of CS and that he tore the consent form and brought the woman back here.

“He left that night, and in the morning, around 6am, we did a scan and the person that did the scan said the baby was not doing well. I had to call her husband to come and carry the wife if he would not consent to the CS. I have my evidence and in the process of trying to prepare for the CS, the woman delivered and whatever that happened from where she was coming from, I do not know and it is only the husband that can answer that.

“When the woman delivered, her blood was not clotting and I don’t know what they had done where she was coming from and we had to get blood urgently to transfuse her, placed her on oxygen and referred her to LASUTH and that was what happened.”

Nigerian singer, Anthony Victor, aka Victony, has disclosed that he was in coma for three to four days after he was involved in an auto crash in 2021.

Recall that Victony in 2021 narrowly escaped death in a ghastly car accident that left one dead and three injured. The accident kept him on wheelchair for about a year.

Recounting the tragic experience in the latest episode of the Tea with Tay audiovisual podcast, the ‘Soweto’ crooner said he remembered leaving the club.

He said, “Just leaving the club, on our way back, I slept off. I was tired. That was like my first time outside up to that time. So, I slept off.

“When I woke up, I was in the hospital with my dad. I was like ‘what’s happening?’. Because my parents didn’t know I was in Lagos. So, I was like ‘why is my dad here?’ And he told me I was out for like 3 or 4 days.”

He said when he came back from coma, he was told that another car hit their vehicle from the back.

“I heard that the impact was from the back like another car hit us. The driver and the other guy at the front they were totally fine. We were two at the back, two at the front. So, the one beside me [at the back] he died while I broke my legs,” Victony recalled.

Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, better known by his stage name, Davido, has revealed that his Afrobeats colleague, Ayodeji Balogun popularly called Wizkid spoke to him on the phone every week after the death of his son, Ifeanyi.

Davido made this known in an interview on the Morning Show on Hot 97FM, New York, which was shared on Saturday.

He stated that he and Wizkid had a 12-year rift and that they only began talking after his son died.

Speaking in the video, he said, “With Wiz, over the years we had a rift, for 12 years we had a rift up until recently he chatted up and I am seeing the positivity.

Two escape death as truck rams into 3 vehicles on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

Two persons escaped death by whiskers when a truck rammed into three vehicles at Ijako Market on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun State.

Oseni explained that an Iveco truck, with registration number: DED 266 DC lost control due to speeding and rammed into three other vehicles: a Honda Pilot SUV, marked: APP 654 HA, Nissan Primera car, marked: EH 462 MK, and a Mazda bus: marked APP 392 DJ, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Oseni said that two persons sustained varying degree of injuries, while five others escaped unhurt.

“The injured persons have been taken to Diamond Hospital at Ijako by TRACE personnel and good Samaritans for intensive treatment,” she said.

The TRACE unit commander further said that the affected vehicles had been towed off the road to ease free flow of traffic.

She advised drivers of articulated trucks and other motorists to desist from excessive speeding, especially during this Easter period, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.

Oseni also warned motorists against reckless and dangerous driving that could lead to avoidable crashes and mishaps.

Lagos: Gunmen kill policeman, steal two rifles

A yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police has been killed by gunmen along Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, in the Imota, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the gunmen carted away two rifles, as the deceased policeman’s colleagues scampered to safety.

According to Eyes Of Lagos, a source in the area said the policemen were carrying out an operation on the highway when the gunmen shot at them on Thursday.

The source explained that the attack happened around 7.30 pm on Thursday, adding that the situation caused tension and affected vehicular movements on the highway.

“Yesterday (Thursday), armed men attacked some policemen at a point along the Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, Imota, and shot a policeman to death.

“We gathered that the policeman that died was an Assistant Superintendent of Police and the gunmen also stole two rifles. The policemen were on the highway when the gunmen attacked them around 7.30pm,” the source said.

Eyes Of Lagos reported that while other policemen who escaped from the scene had reported back to the station, the whereabouts of one of the armed policemen was still unknown.

Pastor declared wanted for allegedly st£aling 52 phones, other items belonging to worshippers who attended his crusade in Oyo

Dr. Owen Abraham, a Gambian pastor, is reportedly on the run after st£aling 52 phones, money and other valuables from worshippers that attended a crusade he organised in Ibadan, Oyo State.

It was gathered Abraham, on the last day of the three-day crusade, claimed that the Holy Spirit directed him to tell people to hand in their phones and valuables, only to later abscond with them.

The victims said Abraham, who lured them into three days fasting and prayer, was nowhere to be found on the last day of the crusade, as all efforts to reach him proved ab%rtive.

A victim, Mrs Grace Akintola, who spoke with Eyes Of Lagos , said many widows went for the crusade because the said pastor promised to give each person a bag of rice and money, adding that Abraham also promised to empower students with scholarship.

Mrs Akintola, a widow, while recounting her ordeal said: “The pastor approached an Igbo lady in our area to assist him to gather widows and students, saying he wanted to help us. Eyes of Lagos reports,

Someone in my area invited me for the crusade. He wore pastor regalia. He said he will buy a house for one of us and that the house will be fully furnished.

He promised some people that attended the crusade money. Even politicians cannot give out such amounts he promised. On the last day of the crusade, he sold a bottle of water for us at the rate of N4,800. He said perfume is inside the bottle water. Many people paid for the water.”

Nigerian hip-hop artist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has revealed why he does confrontational music.

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Falz said he was not afraid of death, stressing that life in Nigeria is not meaningful.

The multi-talented entertainer featured on the programme ‘Music as a Socio-political Tool’, on the heels of his latest song with his colleague, Vector – ‘Yakubu‘, titled after the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The rappers, in the song, called out INEC, its chairman and other political parties allegedly involved in the electoral malpractices in the just-concluded general elections.

According to Falz, he would rather go down fighting for justice than to remain silent and die from the failed system of the country.

The rapper, who joined the programme via Skype from the United Kingdom, explained that he was not abroad because he was afraid of confrontation from state actors over the controversial song.

Airport security evacuate man protesting Tinubu’s inauguration from plane

On Friday evening, an unidentified man was carried off an Abuja to Lagos flight.

The lone middle-aged protester was said to have declared that President-elect Bola Tinubu should not be sworn in as President on May 29.

According to the video that made it way online, it took the efforts of no fewer than six airport security officers to evacuate him after he had been stuck on the plane for more than an hour, as the 6pm flight had yet to take off as of 7pm.

As he was being carried down the aisle, the man could be heard shouting, “Obidients you’re here. They are doing this to me. Obidients you’re here, I am naked. Obidients you’re here, I am going naked.”

No one could approach him because officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and Ibom Air surrounded him.

Makesense Media reported on Thursday that the Department of State Services had identified some unnamed key players planning for an interim government in the country.

Describing the plan as an aberration, the DSS said such would undermine civil rule as well as plunge the country into an avoidable crisis.

However, the 36 state governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Friday requested the DSS to as a matter of urgency arrest and prosecute those involved in the plot to put in place an interim government as a replacement for the nation’s democratic system.

How clergy offended God in 2023 elections – Mbaka

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has said that the clergy of all Christian denominations in Nigeria offended God in different positions they took during the 2023 general election.

On the political scene, Mbaka said: “I apologise on behalf of all the priests and pastors in our shortcomings, particularly during the election and in this political period. We have offended God in the process but let God forgive us because we got it wrong.

“The power of God is above any rigging, the country is rotten, let us use the times we are expensing for politicking to search for solutions to our problems. Politics is now dividing Nigerians and all these politicians I call them political hawks and vultures.”

Mother General of the Adoration Ministry, Trans-Ekulu zonal leader, Mrs Ngozi Chigbo prayed that their children should obey them to be successful in life while as mothers they will continue to seek and pray for their children’s welfare.

Niger Delta ex-agitators to protest over stipend stoppage

Over 300 ex-agitators from the Niger Delta have entered the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja ahead of a planned protest.

According to a source, they plan to take to the streets to protest the suspension of their monthly N65,000 stipends following the appointment of Maj-Gen Barry Tariye Ndiomu (retd.) as Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The first, second, and third phases of the PAP comprised the mass influx of ex-agitators.

“The Niger Delta ex-agitators have vowed to occupy the nation’s capital for a long term protest if the government does not replace Ndiomu with a Niger Deltan who understands the plight of the people of the region, especially the ex-agitators,” the source said.

Other demands included the immediate suspension of the planned cooperatives by the PAP and restoration of the training programmes, both academic and non-academic.

“Let the ex-agitators take the centre stage in the decision-making process in the Amnesty Office, not strangers who do not know the in and out of the struggle in the Niger Delta.

“The protest in the nation’s capital shall continue until all these things are met, before we will leave the streets of Abuja”, the source added.

When contacted, the Special Assistant on Media in the Amnesty Office, Thomas Peretu, asked newsmen the details and reasons for the proposed protest.

After being told, he said, “I’m in the church now”, and ended the call.

Four Nigerian nationals arrested in India for allegedly duping businessmen online

Four Nigerian nationals have been arrested by the Cyber Crime Wing of Greater Chennai Police in Tamil Nadu, India, for allegedly duping businessmen online.

The suspects were said to have cheated many businessmen in the city and elsewhere in the State by promising good returns on their investments.

The police arrested the four suspects, Okories Godswill Sainasa, 32, Uche John Imeka, 47, Godwin Immanuel, 32, and Eposie Uchenna Stanley, 32, who were operating in Kharghar, a suburb of Navi Mumbai, and brought them to Chennai on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

According to the police, the accused Nigerian nationals worked in teams and contacted the businessmen first through LinkedIn. Makesense media reports,

One of the teams with a fake profile picture of a white woman in the name of Nora Morrison from Canada on WhatsApp status approached the victim, a businessman from Kolathur.

She claimed to be the Chief Executive Officer of a Canada-based pharmaceutical firm and offered good commission for supplying herbal oil. Then the others got in touch with her.

The businessman made online transfers in December 2022 for ₹33 lakh to the account mentioned by fraudsters towards procuring oil from Delhi and supplying it to Canada. He did not receive any commission as promised and he lost his money as the business proponents went incommunicado.

Following a complaint, a special team of police led by Cyber Crime Wing inspector T. Vinodhkumar analysed the call records, mails and other electronic communications and traced down the suspects near Mumbai.

Mr. Vinodh Kumar said, “Our team conducted an investigation for 10 days with help of Navi Mumbai police and searched the house of suspects in Kharghar police station limits and arrested four of them.”

Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, the officer said it had four teams posing as the executives, purchase managers, suppliers and quality control.

In reality, all teams were Nigerian nationals operating from a home in Navi Mumbai. They never made video calls or voice calls to victims in Chennai.

He added that they mainly targeted people in import-export business and who had registered their details on business portals and social media platforms.

Naira collapses against dollar again at exporters’ window

The Naira fell against the dollar at the investors’ and exporters’ window on Thursday, trading at N461.67.

The rate represented a 0.04 percent decrease from the N461.50 it exchanged for against the dollar on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the open indicative rate was N461.25 to the dollar.

Gunmen Abduct APC Local Govt Secretary In Rivers

Mr. Amadi Osaronu, a stalwart in the All Progressives Congress and the party secretary in Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government Area, has been abducted by gunmen.
