Truck driver and one other remanded for beating traffic official to coma in Abuja

A Grade I Area Court in Karu in Abuja has ordered that two men, Mansir Seidu and Abdulazeez Sheu, who pleaded guilty to beating up a traffic official to a state of coma, be remanded in custody pending their sentencing.

The FCT police had charged the duo with joint act, criminal Intimidation, criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his lawful duty, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means, mischief and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, had told the court that on September 20, Seidu was stopped while driving a truck with registration number KEF 972 SE on the Karu bridge to check if his vehicle was roadworthy. Osho said Seidu drove the complainant, Hussain Adema, attached to the directorate of road traffic services, towards the Abacha barracks in Abuja and beat him to a state of coma.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendants also stabbed the traffic official before he was rescued and taken to the hospital where he is receiving medical treatment. The police said that the defendants also tore the complaints uniform worth N27, 500 and stole his cell phone worth N68, 500. The offense, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 79, 397b, 267, 248, 327, and 289 of the penal code.

When the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded guilty to the offense.

The judge ordered that they be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till Friday, October 7 for sentencing.

Kogi House of Assembly members were forced to relocate due to the flooding.

Recall the floods have taken over nine local government areas in Kogi State, namely Lokoja, Kogi-Koto, Ajaokuta, Ofu, Igalamela-Odolu, Bassa, Idah, Ibaji, and Omala.

The water level keeps increasing by the day, with many residents rendered homeless.

More houses have been flooded along the rivers Benue and Niger, including the Lokoja metropolis.

A naval rating, Damian Ukpukpen, who was kidnapped in Edo State has regained his freedom.

Ukpukpen, an indigene of Ohong in Obudu Local Government Area in Cross River State, was abducted on September 26, 2022, in Benin city.

According to journalist, Agba Jalingo, the naval rating was released around 3:am on Monday, October 3, along with other abductees.

It was gathered that he had accompanied a senior female Naval officer as her orderly from Warri, Delta state to Benin city, for an official event.

The kidnappers were said to have stormed the hotel where they lodged and forcefully took him away at gunpoint.

A few days later, the kidnappers demanded N30 million ransom as condition for his release.

However, Mr Jalingo said no ransom was paid for his release.

Terrorists reportedly ambush and kill Army Major in Zamfara



A Nigerian Army major, Sampson Raymond, has been reportedly killed in an ambush by terrorists in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.



The incident occurred when the officer responded to a distress call of an attack in one of the villages in the LG.



Senator Ishaku Abbo, the Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, confirmed the incident via Facebook on Thursday, September 29, 2022.



According to the senator, the gallant officer had survived two previous attacks by terrorists in Zamfara.




“Two days ago, the spirit told me that something bad was about to happen in my family. I was worried to the point that I could NOT PRAY, I was so worried and weak in the spirit and flesh,” he wrote.



“I sent Messages to Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and Albert Atiwurcha telling them of my troubled spirit and they individually called to pray for me.



“The burden became to much to bear and I called my uncle Ambassador Kevin Peter NIgeria Ambassador to the Czech Republic and narrated the burdens in my spirit. All I could do was just to cry. The burden was too heavy.



“This morning I received the physical confirmation that Army Major Sampson Raymond my cousin, class mate and seat mate in Primary and Junior secondary school was killed by terrorists in Kaura Namuda LGA of Zamfara state. He was ambushed with two gun trucks burnt down by terrorists. This is the third time he was attacked.



“My cousin was ambushed on his way responding to a distress call by 12 midnight. They called in on phone that a village was under attack and he went there to save human lives,”

The U.S. is preparing another round of aid for Ukraine with a $1.1 billion arms package to assist in the war with Russia.



According to MailOnline, the package will be the latest installment in weaponry for Ukraine as it fights Russian forces in eastern Ukraine, according to government officials. The officials said that the package will be announced in the coming days.




This comes after Moscow claimed on Tuesday that residents of occupied territories voted to be annexed and join Russia, the referendums which the US govt has described as a 'sham' after residents were marched to the ballot box at gunpoint.

The aid comes from funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which was appropriated by Congress to allow the Biden administration to procure weapons directly from the industry rather than from existing U.S. weapons stockpiles.



In addition, Democrats in Congress are preparing to provide more than $12 billion in emergency assistance to Ukraine in the proposed the Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations act.



The White House signaled its support for the additional assistance in a statement from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on Tuesday evening.




'The people of Ukraine have inspired the world, and the Administration remains committed to supporting the Ukrainian people as they continue to stand resolute and display extraordinary courage in the face of Russia's full-scale invasion,' the statement reads.



The more immediate aid package will include HIMARS launcher systems, accompanying munitions, various types of counter-drone systems, and radar systems, along with spares, training, and technical support, a source briefed on the plan said.



The United States is watching warily as pro-Russian forces conduct referendums in occupied areas of Ukraine, with the outcome expected to be announced soon.



Washington is preparing a new round of sanctions against Russia should Moscow annex these areas after the referendum results are announced.

Kogi State Government has sealed a church, New Jerusalem Deliverance Ministry, located in Ageva, Okene Local Government Area of the state for alleged unwholesome practices.

Newsmen had reported that the pastor of the church, Adeiza Peter was arrested over allegations of running labour wards for pregnant women in his church and selling “bulletproof” water to the people.





Adeiza, a music artist turned Pastor is said to have been operating the church since the year 2008.

He is currently being investigated by the police for criminal activities ranging from fraud, use of his prayer house for medical quackery, by taking deliveries and also running a psychiatric services even when it has been discovered he has no medical training.

His supposed assistant, Eneji Seidu, from Adogo, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, said the Pastor who was a musical artist before he received a call to be a Pastor has been his close friend, noting that he is a true man of God who have been called to help those in need.

He admitted that people receives medical attention at the Church, but denied knowledge of deaths of sick people at the prayer house, saying God had used the Pastor to heal many who comes with challenges.

Speaking with newsmen, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said the Governor had directed the place be sealed up following the discovery of ungodly activities by the Pastor.

He described the acts of the Pastor as fraudulent, saying his hypnotised members would be rehabilitated and reintegrated with their families, noting that there would serious sensitisation for people to desist from patronising quacks while assessing healthcare.

On his part, Commissioner for Health, Dr Zakari Usman, said the Pastor does not have any medical training, but regrettably taking deliveries and transfusing blood, as well as keeping people with mental illness, and extorting money from them under the guise of spiritual materials.

He said the action was not a witch hunt on the ground of the spiritual activities by the Church, but to carry out the directive of the Governor to seal up the place which was being used for quackery resulting in deaths of pregnant women, babies and others, saying the state government has made huge investment in ensuring healthcare is accessible and affordable to Kogi residents.

The State Security Adviser, Omodara said the Pastor had earlier been arrested following a preliminary investigation by the State Investigation Bureau of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services.

Omodara added that there is enough documented evidence to show that what they practice is contrary to both religious and medical practices.

“In a couple of days, he will be arraigned in court and will be prosecuted if found guilty.” he said.

Meanwhile, members and worshippers confirmed that they have been receiving treatments for different ailments from the self-acclaimed Man of God.



One Mary Oyiza, who was chained claimed that she had a terminal disease and got recovered after she was given anointed water by the pastor. She added that she was chained by an agent of the pastor after she recovered from her illness.



Yunusa Sanusi, a member of the community said his wife was invited to the church as a result of an internal disease that was threatening her life but she lost her life afterwards.



“The pastor called me to come and pay for blood transfusion and I paid over thirteen thousand naira but he didn’t do anything. It took the intervention of the community before the pastor could release the corpse of my wife to me.”

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of 21-year-old Micheal Arigbabuwo who lost his life at a birthday party after allegedly mixing two hard drugs for maximum effect.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State, disclosed this in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle.

Hundeyin who confirmed the arrest of three of the victim’s friends said the incident happened on Friday in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

He said information received by the police in Ikorodu revealed that at about 7.30pm on Friday, a distress call came that some group of Yahoo Yahoo boys brought a corpse to Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

“Based on the information, teams of detectives visited and photographed the scene. Three young men of ages 23 and 24 were arrested.

“The suspects claimed that the deceased allegedly smoked loud and drank codeine at a birthday party of one of their friends held at Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

“The suspects further claimed that the deceased began gasping for breath. He was rushed to the hospital but died,” he said.

Hundeyin added that the corpse was evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital, Ikorodu, for autopsy.

He, therefore, warned youths against drug abuse, stressing that drugs will end their lives in disaster.

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have killed a kidnapper and rescued two abducted victims in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the command, Jennifer Iwegbu, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Benin City, said the suspects were arrested in Thursday, September 22.
She explained that the operatives were on patrol at about 8am, along Obadan community off Benin-Auchi Road when they received a distress call from residents of Ago-Orio community along the Benin-Lagos Road.


According to residents, a four-man armed gang of suspected kidnappers abducted the victims, Samson Osegbowa and Stanley Peters, who had been working on their farmlands. “As part of efforts by Edo State Police Command to sustain the ongoing fight against nefarious activities in the state, especially kidnapping, Police Operatives of the Command rescued two(2) kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

Operatives of the Command on 22/09/2022 at about 0800hr while on patrol along Obadan community off Benin-Auchi road in Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo state responded to a distress call from distraught indigenes of Ago-Orio community along Benin-Lagos road that a four-man armed gang suspected to be kidnappers had taken two persons, One Samson Osegbowa ‘M’ 65yrs and Stanley Peters ‘M’ 38yrs, while working on their farmland.


On receipt of the information, the team of Operatives in collaboration with the community’s local vigilantes immediately swung into action, moved to the scene and embarked on intensive bush combing. During the rescue operation, both victims were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their family members, however, one of the kidnappers was neutralized during the operation.

The following items were recovered at the scene of the crime, One Wooden gun, three cutlasses, One torchlight, and a pair of operational shoes.



Meanwhile, intensive bush combing of the area is still ongoing for possible arrest of the other fleeing gang members.




While reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe Edo state for the general populace, the Commissioner of Police ( CP )Abutu, also appealed for more collaboration from members of the Public, noting that with credible information there is no limit to what the Police Command can do in combating crimes, especially heinous ones.

A Mombasa court in Kenya has heard how a 24-year-old woman was attacked with acid after she shared her intention to end her seven-month relationship with her boyfriend.

Fatuma Kaingu who appeared before Mombasa senior principal magistrate Vincent Adet to testify against Mohammed Kombe, disclosed that she lost her eyesight after being attacked with acid by Kombe whom she told of her intention to end their relationship.



Kaingu said;



“I HAD A BOYFRIEND WHO CALLED ME AND TOLD ME TO TAKE HIS KEYS BACK AFTER L INFORMED HIM OF ENDING OUR RELATIONSHIP. IT ANGERED HIM AND ON AN ALLEGED DAY L TOOK THE KEYS TO HIM AND WE MET AT THE GATE HE ENQUIRED ABOUT HIS KEYS. L THEN STRETCHED MY HAND TO HAND OVER THE KEYS TO HIM, HE HAD A BOTTLE WHICH HAD SOME LIQUID HE POURED THE CONTENT ON MY FACE IT FELT SO CORROSIVE L SCREAMED AND HE RAN AWAY.”



A teary Kaingu went on to inform the court that she was rescued by a man named Omondi who washed her face with water since she was unable to see, escorted her to her employers’ house in Tudor who performed first aid on her, removed her clothes before rushing her to Tudor clinic.

She said;



“THE DOCTORS SAID HE COULD NOT HANDLE MY CASE,L WAS REFERRED TO COAST GENERAL HOSPITAL AND THEN TO AGA KHAN WHERE SURGERY WAS DONE,L LOST MY SIGHT AFTER THE INCIDENT.”



Kombe has since denied charges of unlawfully causing grievous harm to Kaingu. The hearing continues.

No monkeypox vaccines in Nigeria - NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed the absence of monkeypox vaccine in the country.



The agency stated this in response to concerns that the ongoing monkeypox pandemic might become more fatal, as vaccines, treatments and tests are unavailable in much of the world, especially Africa .



A report published, last week, by The New York Times showed that African countries don’t have monkeypox vaccines, treatments and tests.



But on Sunday, September 18, the Director General, NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, said: “The NCDC has testing and genomic sequencing capacity for monkeypox at our National Reference Laboratory (NRL), Abuja. Monkeypox diagnostic capacity is also being rolled out at Central Public Health Laboratory, Lagos, a campus of the NRL, as a first step to increasing access to testing, given a large number of cases in 2022.



“THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO VACCINES AVAILABLE IN THE COUNTRY. BUT OFFICIAL REQUESTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO) AND THE UNITED STATES FOR AVAILABLE VACCINES (SECOND OR THIRD GENERATION).”

Bandits kill one, kidnap three farmers in Kaduna

Bandits have kidnapped three farmers and killed another in Kurgin Gabas community, in the western part of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Chairman of the Birnin Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU) Ishaq Usman Kasai, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

According to him, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, armed bandits kidnapped the three victims at their farms.

He said the bandits also stormed the same community on Friday, snatched motorcycle (Bajaj Model) and killed the owner identified as Bala Balansi instantly before going back to the forest.

Kasai also said bandits have since September 1 blocked the Birnin-Gwari-Funtua Highway and confiscated over 30 vehicles, including big trucks.

Mr Kasai also said that many travellers abducted on September 1 were yet to be released.

“Another disturbing scenario is that the bandits have carted away all the goods contained in the trapped vehicles and people were forced to pay huge amounts of money ranging from N300,000 to N1 million in order to retrieve their trapped vehicles,” he lamented, adding that the bandits charged the vehicle owners depending on the size and nature of the vehicle.

“BEPU is therefore appealing for mobilisation of troops to ensure opening of Birnin-Gwari-Funtua Road and for retrieval of the trapped vehicles unconditionally.” he added.



The chairman said BEPU believed that opening of the road and sustained surveillance will help in addressing the problem of attacks on travellers and in bringing permanent peace as well as enhancing business and other economic activities in Birnin-Gwari LGA.



He said BEPU acknowledged that the security level at Birnin-Gwari to Kaduna Highway has improved following the earlier visit by GOC of 1 Div Kaduna and subsequent mobilization of troops as well as occasional aerial surveillance along the road by security agencies.

Paul Pogba’s brother arrested over alleged blackmail plot

Mathias, older brother to Juventus star, Paul Pogba, has been arrested.




Mathias was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in the blackmail plot against his brother, Pogba.


The suspect, who was summoned by the police for questioning, was detained along with four others in police custody in Paris.

It is alleged that he participated in attempting to extort his brother of €13 million (£11.2m).

R. Kelly found guilty on six counts of child pornography

R. Kelly has been found guilty of sex crimes, including producing child sexual abuse imagery and coercing minors into sex acts.

On Wednesday, September 14, the 12-person jury in the trial convicted Mr. Kelly of six out of the 13 charges brought against him.


He was found guilty of coercing three minors into criminal sexual activity and producing three child sexual abuse videos, all of which prosecutors said involved the same 14-year-old girl.

R. Kelly was acquitted of attempting to obstruct an earlier investigation into his abuse. The jury also found him not guilty of receiving child sexual abuse imagery and conspiring to receive such imagery as part of an alleged scheme to recover missing videotapes.

His two co-defendants, associates Derrel McDavid and Milton Brown, were found not guilty on all charges. Jurors acquitted McDavid, a longtime Kelly business manager, who was accused of conspiring with Kelly to rig the 2008 trial. Brown, a Kelly associate for years, was acquitted of receiving child pornography.


R. Kelly, 55, had already been sentenced to 30 years in prison in June 2022 after a jury in Brooklyn convicted him of racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

Based on that sentence, he won’t be eligible for release until he is around 80.

June’s conviction is the first time R. Kelly had been held criminally responsible for allegations related to sexual abuse despite accusations dating back more than three decades.

School teacher arrested for defiling 7-year-old pupil in Bauchi

A 25-year-old school teacher, Sirajo Ahmed, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old pupil in Alkeri, Bauchi State.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, September 12, 2022, said the suspect lured the minor into his office in the school and defiled her.

“On 06/09/2022 at about 0930hrs a team of detectives attached to Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters arrested one Sirajo Ahmed ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Royal Science Academic Alkaleri, for defiling a 7yrs-old pupil,” the statement read.

“Information receipt by the Division indicates that on 13/08/2022 at about 1000hrs one Sirajo Ahmad ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Unguwan Ajiya Alkaleri, who is a classroom teacher at Royal Science Academic School Alkaleri, deceitfully lured his 7yrs-old pupil into his office at the said school and defiled her.

“During the investigation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime,” the PPRO added.

Woman commits suicide after her boyfriend allegedly used her money to marry another woman

A Nigerian lady, Olaitan Adonis, has died by suicide after her boyfriend, identified as Ola Saheed, allegedly used her money to marry another woman.

Olaitan, who had a seven-year-old son, was said to be in a serious relationship with Saheed and was saving money in his bank account.

However, he used the money to marry someone else over the weekend, according to reports.

Upon receiving the news, Olaitan reportedly consumed a poisonous substance and passed on from internal injuries.

Olaitan was with Saheed last Thursday, September 8, and she had no idea that he was getting married over the weekend.


On Friday, September 9, a friend of hers told her Saheed, whom Olaitan reportedly spent the previous night with, was getting married on Sunday, September 11.



Heartbroken, Olaitan took the toxic substance and died the following day, Saturday, September 10.

Olaitan’s boss was quoted as saying: “My salesgirl has been giving him money from my shop for upkeep, but he squandered the whole money. She even sent him N10k on Friday. After she had ended it all, we called him and he said it’s none of his business.”

Olaitan’s alma mater posted a tribute to her on Facebook and advised people not to commit suicide because of anyone.

Two children killed as school fence collapses on them in Lagos

Two children have died after the fence of a school collapsed on them.

The children, a 3-year-old boy named Samat Saheed and an unnamed 9-year-old girl, were in front of Covenant Point Academy at Ajose Street, in the Amukoko area of Lagos State, when the fence collapsed.

A 31-year-old suspect, Umar Shehu has revealed that he gets N100,000 for every 500 rounds of ammunition delivered to bandits.

The suspect who was paraded at police headquarters, Minna, Niger State, said he supplied arms and ammunition to bandits in Madaki forest, Katsina State, and in Maidaro forest in Kaduna State, as well as to a terrorist in the Kwamba-Maje area of Suleja, Niger State.

Shehu revealed he got the arms from one Abdulmani in Taraba State who was killed in Kaduna early this year by a security squad.

Two lovers have been arrested after being found fighting in an AirBNB in Milimani area of Kisumu county, Kenya.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari has disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) owns 20 percent equity in the soon to be functional Dangote Refinery and that by mid 2023 Nigeria will no longer import fuel.

Speaking during the State House Ministerial Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team, on Tuesday, August 30 in Abuja, Kyari said that the importation of petroleum products into the country will be stopped by mid-2023 because the combined output of Nigeria’s refineries being revamped, and the Dangote refinery would be enough to stop importation.

“Even if all the refineries are working today, you will still have a net deficit of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to import into this country.

”This is what it means because our population has grown; demand has grown; the middle class has grown.

“ I am sure everybody here owns one or two cars; and as such, the volume of petroleum products we require in this country has grown exponentially.”

Kyari said that aside from owning 20 percent equity in Dangote Refinery, NNPC Ltd had the right of first refusal to supply crude oil to that plant.

“But, we saw this energy transition challenge coming; we knew that time will come when you will look for people who will buy your crude oil, you will not find.

“And that means we have locked down the ability to sell crude oil for 33,000 barrels minimum by right for the next 20 years.

“By right also, we have access to 20 percent of the production from that plant,” Kyari said.

He said the Dangote refinery which would begin next year would augment the output from state-owned refineries to meet Nigerians’ demand for petroleum products.

Kyari added: `Which means that it can crack the crude in a manner that you can have more gasoline than a typical refinery; that means the refinery has the ability to produce up to 50 million litres of PMS.

“So, the combination of that and our own ability to bring back our refinery will completely eliminate any importation of petroleum products into this country.

“This is very practical; this is possible; as a matter of fact, what we have done with our own refineries and the Dangote Refinery with many other small initiatives we have put in place—small, modular, condensate refineries that we are building.

”If that happens, we are very optimistic it will happen; you will see that this country will now be a net exporter.’’

“So, you will not have need for the importation of petroleum products into this country by the middle of next year,’’ he said
