mcfarlin:Sorry, I am not in any search group. |
Wow! I was expecting to see a lot of transcripts posted today but.....well. Let me post mine. In Jan,2022, I joined this platform because I had a challenge which I sought for help on this platform. I had applied for B1/B2 visa renewal for my family and I since May, 2021. While awaiting the interview which was scheduled for May 2022, my son got admission for a Bachelor's degree in the US. We tried to switch his visa category to F1 but we were informed by the embassy that our previously booked appointment may be cancelled automatically, if we initiated the switch. The advice was to wait for our interview in May, but he wouldn't show up for the interview. Afterwards, we could now switch his visa and reschedule him. Fastforward to May, we received messages fastforwarding our appointment 3days earlier. We attended the interview and got our B1/B2 visas approved with a few questions asking when last we travelled, how long we stayed, why one person was missing from the group appointment, if we had changed jobs in the last 2years..... This was on May 23rd. May 25th we tried to reschedule my son's appointment after re-filling his DS160 with his old MRV fee but didn't pick a date in May 2023 until the 3rd of June,(last week) just after his account was frozen for 72hours. That same Friday,3rd of June, we decided to apply for Emergency appointment as his earlier start date is July, 24th with the necessary documents. 5mins later, we received a mail denying the emergency due to shortage of staff in Lagos consulate. My son was so downcast and discouraged, pleading we switched to Abuja consulate. I just told him there was still time and that he should calm down. We prayed and continued trusting God for an appropriate date to crop up while he joined appointment dates groups for both Lagos and Abuja. Note, we had only one reschedule lifeline left. On Tuesday, the 7th of June, after trying to check the portal for dates for the Lagos group, someone dropped the alert of opened spaces on the whatsapp group. Instantly, he logged on and secured today's date- the 10th! Several slots kept dropping- over 100 openings. That was a miracle as he had seen June 10th when he applied for Emergency but he was denied. Like joke, that date eventually jumped back at him. Phew! oro po! . Out of the applicants today, he was singled out with a few ppl and taken to a room to meet an elderly VO. He sat down to chat with the VO and his assistant. Anyway, bottom line- VISA APPROVED!!! Transcript uploading soon though it probably will not apply to alot of people as this is for a Bachelors degree program and applicant has US travel history. Nothing is impossible if only you can believe! From the switch to F1 visa to search for dates to denial of emergency appointment to eventually getting a favourable date and ultimately, visa approval! God wey do am for us go do yours too by His grace. ![]() |
A lot of slots opened up this week for Lagos appointments slated for today so don't despair, if you are still seeking for dates. Make sure you belong to a group for dates search. Here's wishing all of you going in today God's favor and successful interviews. White papers and testimonies shall abound.....Cheers!!! |
kenwizy:I don't know if you got an answer to this question yet but let me assure you that you gat no problem. If you haven't taken a new passport photograph, make sure you do immiediately you get to the embassy tomorrow morning before you go in because you will be asked to submit a recently taken passport. It will be announced to you while waiting to go into the interview hall to go and take a new one if you don't have. The new one will be uploaded by the VO assistants for you before you thumbprint inside the interview hall. All the best. |
GOODMORNING NL. Pls is there a need to update one's DS 160 form which was submitted almost a year ago? My family appointment comes up in less than a week and i was wondering if there's a need to update our info and passport photographs as some info are outdated. Pls your input is highly welcomed. @shannon70 and other ex consular officers. Thank you. |
Barzoid:So sorry about that. You can send me yours and I'll reach out to you. |
Barzoid:Through the Common App, one of your recommenders is meant to be the Principal or Admin.personnel of your High School. Once you fill the person's name and email, a link will be sent to the Secondary sch. official to send the Transcript directly to the Common App platform. You will need to inform the Sch. personnel so he or she can respond to the link and upload the transcript before the deadline. It will then be accessed by all of the schools you apply to. I'm sorry I couldnt reply your mail to connect with me. You can send me a mail directly to phoyeks@gmail.com. Cheers. |
Barzoid:You are most welcome. You can also look for schools using the college board and apply through Common App once you have your SAT score. Study well for the SAT; there are many practice questions online you can use to prepare for the exam. External scholarships ( from independent bodies like religious org, govt parastatals, private organisations) can also be obtained by the way. You can do this; let google be your search and answer engine. It's work, real work but let the end result be your motivation. Look for schools according to your utmost priority: course of study, financial budget, weather of the area, urban , suburban or rural cities, size of campus and poulation....etc . All the best. ![]() |
Barzoid:Let me lend my few cents here. I hope it answers a lot of quests. From my experience ( which is little), many undergraduate programs hardly get a full ride scholarship except you score 1450 and above as an international student. My son scored 1320 and he applied to H.U, PSU and 2more universities. He got admission in all the universities he applied to, just with his WAEC result and SAT( which many of the schools said it was not compulsory) but none gave him a full or even 50% scholarship so far ( though we await Howard University's offer today/tomorrow) So if you wish to get a full ride scholarship, aim for 1500 in your SAT and you will see schools begging you with a full ride scholarship. Many undergraduates here seem confused looking for schools that give full scholarship for undergraduate programs. Your score has to be exceptional to get that full ride except if a few schools do give otherwise. Family ties for undergraduate applicants should not be a bother to you if your parents and family members are based here in Nigeria. It is assumed you are still too young to disappear into the US with your family members in Nigeria (i.e you are 16-19yrs) Secondly, your WAEC result does not need to be evaluated by WES. WAEC results are accepted for undergraduate programs. I know that no school asked for my son's result to be externally evaluated. Google and Use Common Application to apply for schools. It helped a lot. 3. Get schools and admissions first before proceeding about MRV and Sevis fees. MRV fees will be paid in GTB and SEVIS fees can be paid if you have someone based in the U.S or can be helped by @Walspring on this platform. 4. Be smartly and neatly dressed with a cheerful outlook. I hope this helps someone out here. Remain blessed and wish you all the best. |
UmmZayd: ROTFL.... |
shakidude:He can still use the receipt for the B1/B2 for the F1. You will need to update his !-20 and change his application to F1. Meanwhile, is he applying as a dependant of yours or does he have his own personal profile? If his application is linked to your profile, that's where the challenge may be. I am in the same boat with my son as well. |
lovetext:NO. She doesn't need to get a covid test except the state she's entering requires it. You can confirm from the airline just to be doubly sure. U.k, Turkey and some states in the U.S no longer require Covid tests for fully vaccinated travellers except Nigeria who still insists on 2 Covid tests if you are coming in. |
ritsy02:HI, You are good to go with your 2yrs valid Passport. You can always get it renewed in a Nigerian embassy closest to your state of study in the U.S. Alternatively, you can also get it renewed in Nigeria if you do come to visit before its expiration. Congratulations! |
babra19:I want to assume your mum's visa category is B1/B2, if so, she definitely qualifies for a drop box till April 27th. However, there are other criteria you have to tick. Has she applied for a visa renewal with an appointment date scheduled before now? The U.S embassy keeps updating their information periodically so you need to read the latest update. As at Dec.2021, there was no dropbox but there is for those that qualify based on some new criteria. I will send the site once confirmed. Warm regards. *Check out www.ustraveldocs.com. You can read on the Interview waver /dropbox requirements. I believe your mum's qualified. ![]() |
Lakseg:I think you need to get your transcripts evaluated by WES and then apply as an international transfer student to any of the universities you wish to attend based on your course of study. You need to do some researches yourself based on your current academic situation and get clarifications from the web on colleges that will accept your transfer. All the best! |
Canada2021:Congratulations! bros! I applied for my undergraduate studies ( Computer Engineering) in University Park too and awaiting their admission. Already have an admission in another university in Pennsylvania with some scholarship but will like to see what Penn state will offer me. |
Canada2021:Which of the campuses of Penn state pls? and what course are you going in for? Fall 2022? |
Cap91:You applied for Summer 2022, can your classes start today Pls re-confirm your start date.It is well with you. ![]() |
lily156:Just like it was answered earlier, no more dropbox in Nigeria for now. Are you renewing your B1/B2 alone or with your family? If you are renewing alone, you can update your DS160 application, changing your B1/B2 to F1. Since your scheduled date is in 2023, you have nothing to lose, cancel your appointment, submit your updated DS 160 reflecting the F1 and pick a fresh date which will still be in 2023. You can now expedite your appointment 60days before your resumption date. In expediting, if you qualify for interview waiver, you will be notified. For now, only those qualified for the interview waver scheduled for Jan 18th -25th are being considered. Based on my personal findings. . |
GboyegaD:Thanks |
bukhety:. THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I just read about the new waiver program. We've had the B1/B2 before so should qualify for the new waiver, hopefully. I appreciate your assistance and to all who responded with their opinions. Still trying to get a hang of replying or commenting on people's posts on this platform. ![]() |
Hello to everyone in the house especially the Gurus. I came to this platform about a month ago and have been learning so much from all the transcripts and responses. Pls I will like to ask for some counsel. This is my scenerio: My son got an admission for an undergraduate study for Fall 2022 just last December, 2021. Prior to this, we( the whole family) had applied for B1/B2 and had gotten an appointment for May,2022 as a group. Now my son is to apply for F1 and after calling the embassy, we were told there's the probability the whole family's appointment may be cancelled once we try to switch his application to F1. The next available dates are from July 2023! We are at a crossroad on what to do. Meanwhile his Sevis fee and acceptance fee have been paid for. Question: 1. Do we leave his B1/B2 so our appointment is secured i.e he will appear with us and afterwards file for F1? 2. Do we take the risk and cancel the appointment so his application for f1 is effected? 3. Can he appear for the Tourist visa and then pay for another MRV to fill for F1? I"ll really appreciate if these questions and what steps to take can be clarified. Thank you. |
