Nairaland GeneralRe: Ledger Balance Withdrawal HELP by PhumiTJ(op): 5:34pm On Apr 15, 2018
lestat:
Now was this money sent as a result of a transaction?

If yes don't release the item tell the person to contact his or her bank to verify the transaction so the money can reflect in your available balance section

If it wasn't as a result of a transaction them wait it will reflect it's probably a banking internal.network issue

PS some.accounts have this security measure so they even though the account holder initiates a transfer to you unless he or she calls it verify or sends an email that transaction will be reversed
tanx
but it wasn't a transaction, just someone who has sent money to me other times without these hiccups. Do I wait b4 going to the bank

Honestly, this class is becoming useless day by day. This observation is based on the fact that there are no many courses you can study under it.Law that used to be the pinnacle of it,according to the recent comments on NL is now a rubbish course. When my younger brother got in for law this year I was very happy but due to the recent comments on NL I feel like advising him not to study it again..I know his future is not determined on whatever course he studies, but it seems law has deteroriated to the extent that there is no future in it whatsoever again.Law aside, other courses in art class need not to be studied b4 practising them(in Nigeria)..Dramatic arts?music?...as for English language and Literature in English,if u don't try and do ur post graduate studies then become a lecturer,I don't know wat's in there for u.....I read on Nl that most art students wants to study law,my research tells me mostimes not because they like law,but because the other courses under it aren't fit their intelligence and also there are not so many courses to study under it...we all aspire to be the best in what we do,Law used to be for art class..now that it seems irrelevant, the class should just be scrambled!...what do you think?

tunshe: A list from biased minds!

Placing Saudi Arabia on that list is a very wrong submission.

Because Saudi Arabia refuses to allow women mix freely with men? They would have been delisted if they allowed men Bleep women like dogs on streets like here in the US?

A society that caters for women needs, why must a woman drive when male drivers, husband or relatives can take them out when they wish? Is driving a car the priority or getting to your destination?

I see this as a respect to women rather than marginalisation.

Thumbs up to Saudi Arabia for treating women as the most valuable being.

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Nightmare At Durban Int Film Fest by PhumiTJ(f): 8:53pm On Aug 13, 2014
speedyboi: What's this about exactly? Durban film festival.... What's that? Nollywood films screen in much bigger festivals, who cares what South Africans think? They've always been anti-Nigeria, so to hell.

And we Nigerians; in our eyes (in all aspects of life), every kid is the best in the world, except ours. Who've bothered to know what's going on in SA film industry right now? Or what South Africans actually think about their films?

Talk of consistency, why didn't they keep winning oscars after Totsi? Talk about the Oscar sef, They won Oscar once and so effing what?!!! That's 10 years ago, get over it already! Look around, nothing really changed after Totsi.

Not one single Bollywood film has ever won an Oscar, yet Indians are not killing themselves over it. They are not using Oscar to measure their success, infact they don't care about it! Yet, everyone around the world will pick bollywood then take many many steps before even thinking of recognizing our almighty Oscar winning SA industry.

Bottomline is; i don't envy SA cinema! I don't wish Nollywood to be in its shoes. I don't want Nollywood to start making propanga-ridden western stereotypical films, just to attract western audience. That's what SA is doing and most South Africans bash their filmmakers for that and more. Most even use Nigeria as an example for their filmmakers. I don't want an industry without self esteem. I don't care if we keep producing crap, as long as we don't loose ourselves or start making some "shitty Tarzan-like" films. I'm comfortable with Nollywood depicting the typical Nigerian world and i even want them to up that "hip" style, a big NO to some "pity party" films! No way!

I'm sure the day Bollywood will start getting Oscar is when they start making "slum dog nonsense" kinda films where they'll depict some indians struggling to make it. That's the Oscar spirit; if it ain't hollywood, then don't depict a civilized citylife of your country, else no Oscar for you. What they want are films with strong "messages". You know what the message is wink.

safarigirl: A thousand gbosas to speedyboi for that awesome post abeg.

SA movies are extremely boring cuz they only shoot what Westerners like. No originality at all, nothing hip and fun. All their movies are either based on apartheid, drug abuse or some other shitty problem people would rather forget.

They're little pawns, the Western worl isn't interested in a civilized Africa, they only love watching woe-unto-I movies like Mandela, war and propaganda movies like that nonsensically boring Black Gold and ridiculous movies like Mr. Bones.

In fact, Osuofia in London was so famous cuz it depicted an impossibly uncivilized African in the Western World, which is exactly what they want to see

darlingtonNYIG: One bad thing about Nigerians is that we don't heed to warnings; the Military categorically stated two days ago that any state under emergency rule prohibits protests, announcements where made on various media houses so why did they flaunt it and come to protest. Well they where told any injury is at their own peril. They should assist the army to disarm the terrorists rather than protest unnecessarily when most of them are the informants for the sect. Blockus: OP,

I find this thread offensive to ndi Igbos. angry

We dont have any relationship whatsoever with the Yorubas. angry

They have proven to be untrust worthy since the beginning of time. They are two faced, back-stabbing and maliciously wicked and have demonstrated it time and time again. Lets not forget that the genocidal aspect of the civil war where food and medical supply were cut off from the East was not suggested by the Northerners but by a Yoruba man. Lets not even forget that there would not have been a war per se if the Yorubas had stuck to their end of the bargain from the Aburi accord held in Ghana.

The Yorubas are not trust worthy at all and thats the root of our problems in Nigeria. Atleast the Hausas have shown us where they stand from the very beginning.

I do however agree with the OPS comparison of the Igbos to the Germans and the Yorubas to the French, seeing as the Germans are innovative and brave at war and the French are cowardly and docile in general.
I knew a fool was just waiting in the corner to derail dis thread with incessant tribalism.
if u are not comfortable with d healthy relationship and competition dis two beatiful tribes share perhaps we should feed u to our more "loving and caring" Hausa brothers.

TV/MoviesDear Nollywood: On The Matter Of Your Plot Devices..... by PhumiTJ(op): 10:09pm On Dec 23, 2013
I have to say those days of good awardable nollywood movies (when i say that i refer to both yoruba and english movies) are far behind us, days of "saworide, "glamour girls ","apoti eri" e.t.c. There are good nollywood films available today but we can't compare to the good old days.

What bothers me most these days is the high rate of porn exposure in present movies (not all). This isn't limited to english novies but also yoruba.

I remember about ten to eleven years ago when i was still very young. French kiss in english movies was less than 3 seconds while no kisses were featured in yoruba films at all except for hugs and pecks.

We can't say the same today, though i understand sometimes the actors have to kiss to make it more realistic, it doesn't have to be a full on grope and press session, even if you want to copy oyinbo's, the way they kiss is much more gentler and paceful than these irritating hollywoods wannabes.

Another disturbing trend i've noticed in yoruba movies (don't know about English) is the way they portray rape scenes, it's always so vivid and annoying. Even hollywood doesn't do that and i should no because i researched it.

The hollywood protocol says rape scenes must not surpass 3 minutes. I once watched a yoruba film where the rape scene lasted 12 minutes. And they showed it all the screams, blood, the girl's pain accross her face. It was disgusting we had to forward it.

Not to mention the fact they put it in advertisement which means it can "pop" up anytime. One day i and my two junior ones and my mum were watching a movie and this rape scene popped up suddenly, we had to hurridely remove the cd.

Partly to blame is the Nigerian censors board, i don't even know why it exist if they are not doing anything. Even in the US the cinema's must not allow those whose age haven't reached what's rated to watch the movie. Twilight fans who weren't up to 14 couldn't watch the movie and had to settle for the book until they were of age.

Not in Nigeria, anyone has access to this movies and it's seriously dissapointing. Go to a video store in the US and you have to present an ID to verify your age before renting your desired movie.

Some of the most annoying of these films are;
bold five babes (english)
one million boys(yoruba)
the lesbians(english)
stripper girls (enlish)
ile alayo(yoruba)
gucci girls(yoruba)
Funke onidoti (yoruba) e.t.c......

I also don't like the way present movies tend to glorify armed robbery and prostitution. So many movies these days (especially yoruba) has plots that revolve around female gang groups robbing. They always potray them as cool, practical "big girls" (i wonder what they are teaching us women) e.g "arinzo", "omo ita", "agbara", "ekun meta"

There was this yoruba film i watched ile asewo (house of prostitutes) which was all about bare clasted ladies showing us their "stuffs" and their sexual activities with their chiefs and sugadaddies. It had no meaningful plot at all. Mind you it was not a B side movies but had A list yoruba actress. Fathia balogun, iyabo ojo, doris simeon e.t.c

The list goes on and on i know it's not ALL nollywood movies but the alarming increase in porn potrayal calls for concern.

PS: some of you might call me tribalistic for attacking mostly yoruba films. But just so you know i'm fully yoruba.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Story Of Margaret Garner:the Woman Who Made It Her Duty To Kill Her Children by PhumiTJ(op): 1:26pm On Dec 21, 2013
Phder: Why have kids in the first instance? Her action isn't justifiable based on being a slave. The best she could have done was abstaining from having kids, but then again the article says she was raped, I think giving the kids a fair chance of survival would have been the best decision.
you have to understand the brutality of slavery to know why she did it. Imagine being worked for hours under the blazing sun wearing just scrapes of clothing, your mouth being padlocked during those times and being fed once daily. Try to escape and you are subjected to severe beatings, female black slaves could be raped at will and nothing would happen. They end up with eligitimate half cast children whom the white father abandons.
Foreign AffairsThe Story Of Margaret Garner:the Woman Who Made It Her Duty To Kill Her Children by PhumiTJ(op): 1:25am On Dec 21, 2013
This is the story of a desperate runaway slave mother who tried to kill her children and succeded in killing one to prevent them from going back to slavery.

Margaret Garner was born a slave in around 1834 in Kentucky, USA a slave state then. It is believed her father was the white plantation owner who had raped her mother. Margaret married Robert Garner a fellow slave in 1849 and they along with thirteen other people escaped their plantation. She, her husband and her four children (three of whom were believed to have been fathered by her white master who repeatedly raped her).

The other members of their party managed to make it to Canada a free state through the underground railway but she was not so lucky.
They hid in the home of a local abolitionist a white man who tried to help them escape to Canada but a sudden raid on their hideout led to their arrest.

During the confrontation Margaret grabbed a large butcher's knife and stabbed her last born, a toddler to death. She succeded in injuring the other children but didn't kill them before she was subdued.

Her trial was high profile then and attracted thousands. There, Margaret proclaimed she had rather see her children dead than see them go through torment as slaves. Her children would have been subjected to more ridicule since they were halfcast who generally faced even more discriminations then and were still considered slaves.

Though several abolitionist testified on her behalf and fought for her, two of her children were taken from her and her, her husband and one more daughter were given back to her owner.
While crossing the River on their way back, their boat sank and Margaret happily let her last born drown not attempting to rescue her and tried to drown herself though she was unsuccesful.

She and Robert were then sold back as field slaves were they were worked and tortured, she died of typhoid fever in 1858.

What fascinates a lot of scholars today is that Margaret showed no remorse for the death of her children and during her trial promised that if she ever had children while still being a slave she would continue to kill them.
Her story was the basis for the pulitzer winning book "Beloved" by celebrated African American writer Toni Morrison a noble lauraete who researched Margaret's life. Several plays have also been made about her.

As we today of learnt the evil of slavery led people to do abominble things......we can't blame the poor woman
