Anika Shiloh: Yay! I and hubby got our visas yesterday(10th) @ Lagos. It was God all the way through.@imperioux and anika, I've been waiting for this post and i told you guys couples could be interviewed together by the same VO but you said no. The lesson I want to pass across here is simple, I know we all have varied experience and understanding but never doubt other people's experience because of what is written or said. Things happen! The experience I shared earlier wasn't from a NLder so I didn't have a prove. Lets just be open and give some benefit of doubt. (NB: Pls this is not to score a point cos we're all learning) Anika and Hobby, congrats and I'm just wondering how the classroom experience will be with your hobby by your side..... |
@yomifola, while I understand that you could not type the full gist because of the experience. But once you get over it, pls try so that people could critique further. |
Congrats summacumlaude. @All, pls I'll like to encourage us to always include info such as school name, major or general info/responses that can be useful to others. Personally, I feel irritated seeing stuffs like "told him", we readers might have missed some valuable info; besides these do not impair nor divulge your identity in any way. I'm sorry if I've hurt anyone, but it's just my personal inclination. |
geeee: Gudevening Huse,The person should use western union and make sure you scan your i-20 to the person. Basically, all the info required are on your i-20. |
kpolli: Check ur spam, maybe they replied u there@kpolli, if nothing is your mail box and you can not do anything on your profile as per accepting a date. I will advise that you call them on Monday. You can as well send them an email now then follow-up with a call on Monday. But make sure you recheck (your email and profile) on Monday before you call. |
kcluv2men: @ Phy- still waiting for ur response..Hey, following you now. pls resend the inquiry. |
opsy4real1: Hi room, wats the procedure to get admission for masters programe into any u.s school? I learnt there are some institutions that offers and sends I-20 forms without any prior deposits and standardized tests waiverYou don't need to pay prior deposit before admission into any US schools, not even before your visa interview. However, the page for your question is "General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2". |
imperiouxx: Could you believe that there is no form (payment service) that has the same or complete info as that on that link with any western union agent in US? Also these people don't usual have such payment request. I went with that sample on that day only to be disappointed, then we turn to filling it on the computer directly with calls to senior agent somewhere else. Sevp needs to update that sample on that site. It's funny, I shared this with someone here and he used it to pay. Some of these agents are not familiar with SEVIS transactions and even banks. The good thing is that they had the courage to call at least to help u. |
I've been getting this notification: "You have 2 new Nairaland PMs. Please check your e-mail account now.", how can one check or read the PMs? Thanks |

spookie: @ phy ,I'm fine.my departure date is 28th of this month.how's school work? Thanks for the looking outcool, let me know if you need help when you come in. |
emmanuelkim: I greet the house o, i have been following a lot of your post, they are indeed very useful, I will be having my interview in July, but i graduated in 2010, my school has not given us result because they were having an issue with our mother campus, I need my transcript for the interview, but i have not gotten it, the school where i graduate form here in Nigeria say i must wait for my transcript before the i can collect the transcript,Right Now i only have TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, please House what will you advise me to do, i need your support. I would have change the date to late July to Lagos from abuja, but heard that Lagos do not issue visa to student,Please how true is this statement, please i need confirmation from the house, God bless you allYou can ask your department for statement of result and that should suffice. Make sure it is on a letterhead. Another option is to ask for a photocopy of your transcript and that will be fine. |
Congrats guys, I can see a lot of northern Californians in the house. Yesterday was generally good for F1, successgrace also got his yesterday but will come and share his story soon. |
@spookie, how are your plans and when are you coming into town? |
GboyegaD: I still am not convinced they have quota of visas allotted per day. This is very correct. Visa quota are in a yearly block, not daily. |
kcluv2men: Okay..I have. Visited that site. I will try again. Okay, just keep me posted. Thanks so much. Lest I forget, are u a fall applicant or u are already in the states?I'm in the states. |
kcluv2men: Yes bro, that sounds great. I want to apply for spring 2013 but I am trying to register online. I think I have to wait after July 1st to apply because it still saying Fall 2012 open for application. Who's the person? How can we hook up?Thanks...Well you still have some time, the earlier the better. Try to check csumentor.edu and you should be able to select the school to start the online registration. The person is ojap, and I've sent him a text to follow up with you. |
kcluv2men: I am currently trying to apply to CSUB...Hopefully I will get d I-20.@kcluv2men, are you talking of Cal state university bakersfield, if yes, i know of someone that could help you out. he's also on this forum but very busy. Post the issue here and i can help you hit him up. |
moluwaseun: @ house, webstradamusYou have various choices: 1. You may consider taking GMAT and enroll for an MBA program. 2. You may take GRE and opt for an MSc in Microbiology or other related discipline. 3. If you want to start a fresh undergrad program then it is advisable you use your degree to apply. Have a good reason to defend why you're taking this decision and that I guess will save you from writing SAT and TOEFL, hence you may not need to write any exams. |
dr_dolittle: Hello my fellow achievers. I need the house to help me on an urgent matter. I have not traveled out of this country before, and so on my ds 160 form, I stated that I have never traveled. However, I will be leaving for Ghana for just three days before my interview day (which is not pertaining to my visa interview or schooling). Should I hold my international passport along when traveling? I am afraid if it is stamped, the VO might ask why my ds 160 states otherwise...Or do you think I can simply tell him or her that I traveled after filling the ds 160 form? Will it sound believable to the VO? Please experienced folks...help me out o. God bless you all.If you wish to state that you have never travel before, then I will suggest that you submit your DS 160 before your trip to Ghana. This implies that as at the time you were submitting your DS 160 you have never travel out of the country. On the hand which is what I would do; why do you want to rush to submit DS 160 when you can always submit it a day or 2 to your interview and update it to show relevant info such as your trip etc and that way you are not in any doubt. In all, my assumption is that you will be traveling with your passport. |
imperiouxx: Clarity matter most while giving advice. TOGETHER but how? By same VO or different? Standing next to each other or not? Same questions or different questions? Those are the points your statement above lacks which can confuse the person asking the question, even me too. Happy that she got the idea now. Hope you are doing well friend?Yes, both of them can stand next to each other before the same VO. Sometimes, what we know doesn't necessarily mean that is all to know. That the consular agent said individually doesn't mean they can't stand before the same VO (Even standing together at their wedding, they answered vows separately). Reality should make us understand that things are not the way we visualize it. One can always argue that stuffs like - you can't go for F1 interview without payment of SEVIS fee and telling the VO you'll not be coming back after your studies are impossible, but we've seen exemptions. If you ask any agent if these were possible, they'll say no. The point is they can stand together before the same VO to be interviewed, I've heard it and they got their visas. *my last post on this* |
imperiouxx: I don't say what I'm not sure of, else I'll say I don't know or won't just say nothing. Thanks for your clarification with them before you believe too much in all the combine that I have been hearing here.Being together doesn't necessarily mean they will answer the questions together and I doubt if anybody ever said that, but they can stand before the same VO as a couple to take turn while being interviewed. I guess the moral support from that is worth the try and this is also obtainable for parent and child. It is never going to be possible for a couple to have the same I-20, it's just like asking if they have the same passport or IDs and that negates that line of thought. That it's not common doesn't mean it's out of reach. |
Anika Shiloh: I and my husband are both going for F1 visa interview in July. Both going for MPH at the same school. Does anyone have an idea if we can interviewed together or not?It is very possible, you can be interviewed together. In fact, I heard about a couple that was interviewed together and they both got the visa. You just need to show a good reason why both of you are going for your MPH together. However, all fees should be made separately and funding is another important point. all the best. |
damilola15: Haven't had time to read through the thread, but I want to confirm something.NYSC cert is not really required, I'm not sure if that could pose any issue. |
Ollydon: house, pls help me eith this prob now Ollydon: house, pls help me eith this prob nowWES is an independent body that converts international transcripts to its US equivalent. You have to register with WES, pay evaluation fee, send your transcript to them from your school, they'll in turn confirm this and then carryout the evaluation. A copy will then be sent to your school. |
Chi-town Base:I know it may not be easy to absorb, but I'll advise your friend to calm down and defer to the next semester/term considering the timing. It takes a while for an int'l to settle in even if you have a place to stay. |
samiel4u: @house.@samie, FD is almost a risk free investment, personally i believe you're good to go. Just get the investment certificate, get a letter to the embassy from the bank to show that your sponsor has an investment with the bank and also a sponsorship letter from your sponsor. All the best |
successgrace: @ imperioux, phy, gboyegaD Justwise and oda gurus in d house@Succes, the owner of the company should be the sponsor and not the coy, however you will need the coy's registration docs for the interview, a letter on his letter head and also get a letter to the embassy from the bank. Don't forget you don't have the same surname with your maternal uncle so that's not an issue. All the best |
Paywole: @house pls I need a candid advice on dis cos my passport is wit one agent of mine and he's telling me i can't get it no later than dis week saturday cos I asked him to me get ghana stamp on it as per d travelling experience issue so where the problem lies is dat I sud report in my skul before august 17 and right now I can't pay the sevis fee cos of my passport dat is not available wit me for now pls is it possible I get an appointment earlier b4 dat august 17@paywole Pls don't be too desperate and trash the believe that if you don't have travel experience US visa is difficult. I've never been to cotonou b4 so get your passport back and keep the ball rolling. |
hey, what's happening on this thread. |
walex57: imperiouxx, leadzeal Phy, Kpolii, gboyegaD....abeg make una tell me ooooo....wetin i go do...do i use the online printout for my TOEFL...Online printout will be fine. All the best. |
kpolli: Wow what are the steps u took to be able to view available dates without camcelling ur present appointment?i selected schedule an appointment, checked the non-immigrant, checked F1 and I guess the remaining ones I clicked next all through. well, i didn't ask if the person have picked a date though as i'm yet to see him online since he shared his details with me. |
