dot_man: can someone pls answer my questn. . .na beg i dey beg o. You don't need to attach anything to your mail and I think there is an instruction to that effect. Just a mail and quote stuffs like your full name, passport no, sevis no, sevis receipt no, and other important details. Also state the reason why you require an expedited interview. |

leadzeal: please when it comes to tendering a statement of account during an interview, can one use a saving account? or is it just the current account that can be used? And secondly, can a 2 weeks old statement be used? if not, then what is the least duration expected for the account statement. You can use a savings account, but i guess the instruction says 3 or 6 months - can't remember the precise. The bottom line is that you can use a savings account. Check out the website for other details. |

adesloop: Thanks bro. I have cancelled the appointment and when i want to schedule the appointment, i was able to see the new date but each time i click on the date, it says no appointment is available for the date. Please what is the next line of action. thanks Do you have the email that reflects your time and date for the interview? if yes, then you are good to go. However, you could still try the stuff out, but you don't need to do the online update once you have the email, in fact the lower section of the email informs you to print and bring that along for your interview. |

imperiouxx: Sorry to hear about this but you can reapply and ask for ED. There are few mistakes in your replies most of which are very sensitive. Though it's easily said when not under interview anxiety but with good comportment, you would have noticed them.
1. You got no job security despite the fact that you claimed you're looking for promotion in your work and have been working for 3yrs. That's why she asked for the years you've being working there. You want to be promoted after studies and you don't carry that employer along, that's contradiction. Forget about Nigerians mentalities, you are simply saying you ain't coming back to that job. 2. My first point may still be overlooked but here is your killler reply. You want to marry a citizen and you also show the impression by saying ''in a couple of months'' that means when you are already in US. You did not even stop on couple of years. To me, couple of months is before the middle of 2012 when your studies suppose to be cruising. Hardly will any genuine student have time for that by then. 3. We don't know your actual age which I know it's one of those factors either not corresponding to your working age or too much beyond married age. 4. Pray more for God's directions because you were given unique and good questions. Though, I don't know if the questions are more than these. 1. Like imperiouxx noted, you need to have good stuff about your job. Next time, tell them your organization knows about it and if the VO ask for a proof respond that your team lead advised that the letter will be issued once you get your visa. 2. About the marriage, you can simply say my decision is to get married after my studies or even after Phd cos you dont want anything that will distract you and if you wish get married tomorrow nobody cares. 3. I've never seen age as barrier to US education so far you don't have much 'idle gap'. |

Tittolala: @cleverdude i sent a personal statement of account to d sch b4 i was given admissn. But surprisingly it was indicated on my I-20 dat my family will be sponsoring me. I ve written to d sch to make correctn. But from what am seeing on this trend nw, it seems i will ve to use d I-20, and fill another ds- 160. Also i ve scheduled an appointment for interview and the ds-160 confirmation code is on the appointment print out or can one go for interview without the appointment print out? So filling another ds-160, one need to create another profile with a new username and password? I have HND, the program am going for will take me between 12months to 18months to complete and what my acct is showing would ve been enough for the entire program. Pls what do u people suggest. Having the family sponsor on the i-20 is the best. you can change to anybody at anytime. I've seen up to 3 people change from one sponsor to another on DS160 because the family sponsor is kind of opened for any. I filled my DS160 thrice cos of one mistake or the other. I'll advise you ask the school to stop processing a fresh i-20 that you're ok with what you have. |

Tittolala: Good day friends, pls concerning the means of sponsoring. Does it mean dat if u are working in a reputable company, and decide to further your studies by sponsoring urself, There is a slim chance of getting your visa? U claimed u are married and still expect your parents or relatives to sponsor your studies. Don't u think its better to put into consideration your marital status b4. Well am just bringing this up to know the opinions of different nairalanders. Who sponsors you doesn't really matter, what matters is the funding, packaging and presentation of your case. However, I feel the tweak with self sponsor is that you must have fund that covers the entire program in your account. |

My interview comes up by 1st wk in Nov
As u have noticed, I've been trying to get somethings clear abt means of financial support.
Does it really matter if my I-20 states someone as a means of support and someone else on my ds 160?? @ Square, if what was written on your i-20 is family sponsor and not a particular name you can change your sponsor. the school does related that to the embassy. |

Quads: Naira Landers,
I`ve heard there are some schools in the US that do not require Evaluated Transcripts for admission. They simply request for your transcript directly from your school and do their in-house evaluation.
If anyone know such schools, would you be kind enough to post their names here? I need a few of them.
Thank you for your time.
UT Arlington doesnt request for evaluated transcripts. I sent mine directly frm my sch n dat was it. Cal state uni doesn't and there are some other schools (MN, etc) listed on this forum sometimes back. |

Kay-Dee: Dont know what your idea of "illegal" is but whatever it means, dont even think about it; if them kpab you, your life don spoil be that.
Im sure DJ didnt mean you should literally run from Nigerians, you just have to be smart about decisions you make and not show your weaknesses when you deal with people besides you should be more comfortable associating with Nigerians than people from any other country.
@USbound : Where in California are u @ ? I tried not to respond to the 'Run from Nigerians' stuff since i read it yesterday, but guess what - that is an impression i will love most of us to correct. There are bad people from different places irrespective of the country but we shouldn't see ourselves as bad people (all the time). Give fellow Nigerians benefit of doubt and judge them individually not forgetting the fact that there are also worse people here. I stay in CA and I have a lot of Indian friends (far more than Nigerians) but one thing I've learnt from them is their communal lifestyle, they don't need to know you before they help or do anything with you. They exchange infos and they link themselves up and that's why they are all over. I guess we need to show more trust and love to fellow Nigerians and at least give some benefit of doubt. I'm yet to meet a bad Nigerian here, but one thing I can tell you is that we always scared of helping ourselves (other Nigerian). I once had a serious argument with a Ghanaian friend and I told him this - 'in a nation of 150 million and let's assume that a million is bad, does is make sense to generalize with such notion?'. May God help us correct this impression. |

OjaP: @ aroy1,
That is untrue. The last time I checked, most universities will offer admission to all applicants with a first degree in any Engineering major, not even when you now have a working experience in that field which I think may give my friend a upper hand. All he need do is just take the prerequisites for maybe one year upon enrollment and he will be fine.
With my first degree in Geology, I was offered a provisional admission in Petroleum Engineering in 2010 but chose to go with Petroleum Geology which I have a passion for. I have seen Petroleum Engineering graduate students with first degrees in Mathematics,Physics,Geology etc. If in doubt, check the department catalogues of the UCLA, University of Houston,Louisiana State University and some other universities that offer the programme.
His first degree is not an issue but his low GPA which is counting against him. For record purpose, such programs like Geology or Petroleum Engineering do not need you to have a first degree in that subject area before been offered a graduate admission. They just require you to have a very strong background in Calculus,Physics,Chemistry,Biology and Mathematics. All deficiencies will be made up in your first through your second year of enrollment as the case may be. All future applicants, please take note.
@ USBound
You are on point. That makes sense alot. Another way out - tell the guy to apply for Msc in a school that offers pet engrg and after admission and registration he should switch major. |

imperiouxx: Any sevis number starting with ''N'' can't be paid for with a credit card. Just do money transfer, money order etc. The issue is not whatever precedes the sevis number but the fact that all SEVIS issued to Nigeria can not be paid with any card irrespective of location. |

biikeys: please I would like you to elaborate on what you think is official enough. thank you The authenticity of your doc is very important and at the same time must also be presentable. Anything you feel could raise question most of the time will always raise one - so try to avoid such. You may have genuine statement and you know it's not presentable (say a statement of result on an A4 without school logo or stamp), you may need to get to your dept to get something better in such a situation. |

I presented WAEC cert, photocopies of my transcript and other credentials at the embassy, but I noticed there was more attention on what i have on my transcript than the O'level. I guess the VO only checked the authenticity of the WAEC cert. Well, i dont know if procedure differs for NECO. |
