I'm going for masters and i've sent an email to the school already concerning a letter of GRE waiver...i first booked for and appointment and got august 27 which is actually the date on my I-20 but canceled it thinking i could get and earlier date but instead got september 6 cos august 27 was not feasible for me since it'll take another 2 days to process my visa...i hope my initial cancellation won't affect my chances of getting a much earlier date. i just wannna wait till 27th of june to file for an emergency appointment. please how do you see it...cos someone said i should pay 45k and he'll get me an earlier date... do i go for this option or just bone it and wait for an emergency application time?...thanks

Pls, I will like to advise you not to pay anybody for date. Those guys don't do anything, they also check the portal for dates like any normal person. And once you give them your details they'll change your password and will be in charge of your schedule. Pls just request for emergency appointment and trust God for help.

he applied to devry university...and the funny part his that his friend applied to the same school and was issued a visa last monday...but what do u think is the best answer for that question becos he has went ahead to book for emergency date....@ phy

Devry is majorly an online school and i guess your friend was just unfortunate to have met a VO that knows this. If asked again he could say something like 'his own particular major has about 10 percent online class as it requires a lot of classroom discussion and research'. He must however be able to defend this further. Others may have a better idea.

have a colleague that went to the embassy that was denied but the green visa ticket number was attached to his passport..........what do you guys think about this base on experience...and also the guy said this question came up like

First, which school did the guy apply to? There is a possibility he applied to an online school if not, online classes can only be about 10-20% of your coursework and again this depends on the school.

u must cancel the previous date u have to be able to view available dates.Meaning u might be lucky to get closer date or unlucky with farther date.

well, i have someone's data i'm using at the moment and i can see available dates.

bypassit: @House,my school resumes by August 6 and i was not able to book an early date,I had to book for sept 7 and sent an Emergency Request plus i contacted the call center and spoke with one of the US Consulate agents.She told me she saw i already sent an Emergency Request that i should wait till 22nd of this month maybe someone should attend to my request.
I am not sure how this works or of it works exactly the way they said it but i really need to get an early date for appointment.
House i need a word from you guys if there is other way to get an early date aside from Emergency request.

They will surely get back to you, just wait till date and be calm. Don't show any form of desperation and that doesn't stop you from visiting the site regularly, you may be fortunate to find an earlier one.

You don't need to cancel your appointment before seeing an available date, you should cancel only if you've seen an available date that suits you and that can be done anytime. Also you can use ur MRV receipt for both abj and lagos.

@Samie I doubt if ED denial meant anything. Just keep your fingers crossed, keep checking for dates. Also if you tried ED at Lagos and was denied you can also try Abj and vice versa. However, it is important to note that before applying for ED you must have already selected a later available appointment date. Do not include any attachment in your mail (that was the rule as at the last time i did). You dont need too many grammar but the required info and the reason for ur request.

what US universities can i apply to for masters degree in geology with my second class lower degree from OAU Ile Ife. i have applied to 2 different universities (university of kentucky and Oklahoma state university) and they both did not admit me REASON: LOW CGPA. please, what schools can be able to admit me with a 2nd class lower degree or what schools can i meet up with their requirements with 2nd class lower degree so as to facilitate my quest. i have taken my GRE and TOEFl and i passed them well, but my TOEFL will expire by january ending. so please i need a school that can admit me against spring 2013. i need your help pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

You can try California state university system, however, be prepared for the funding and taking prerequisites which may result in an extra semester or year. If you're sure of funding, you may still get fall admission.

Send an email to fmjfee.sevis@dhs.gov and they will rectify that ASAP. It happened to me and that was what I did. There must be no attachment, else they will not open it. Find below info I included in my mail:

If truly you cannot find a date before your resumption, you will need to send an email to consularabuja@state.gov or consularlagos@state.gov. The subject should be 'request for emergency interview'. You must not attach anything to the mail else it will not be opened. Include info like your school resumption date, your full name, passport no, sevis no, receipt no, VFS receipt no and your mobile phone. However, your must first choose a later date before applying for emergency interview. All the best

I also feel it is better for you to first apply alone. In fact, that's the best because it shows that you have a tie to your country.

wow, i never knew hope university offers MBA. well, the school is just right across CSUF, in fact, it is almost opposite our school of biz. hope uni is a private school, but i'm not sure of their fees. you can only work on-campus in your first year and getting under the table jobs could be hard. also i dont know about getting an on-campus job there, but bear in mind that the campus is a small campus (less than 10% of csuf). You may start checking out ur school websites for jobs if there could be any. Good luck

@spookie, you are welcome to orange county and CSUF. I am at CSUF and that's the only school you can be coming to for MBA. International students can only work part time on-campus in the first year (full time in the summer if available) and you can only work off-campus after the first year. Have you gotten your visa? Once again, you are welcome to the titan family. However, you need money.

doh d total cash i have in d account is roughly a turnover(balance) of 4.5m naira but my main cash in dat account is 2million naira odas r frm friend just to print stmt of account for d embassy and for I20 so please considering d fact dat all d sch need for a year is 4.1m naira with my 2mi naira do u fink i can survive by campus job,loan or any legal means

I guess you've seen other commentaries. I know you'll be able to pay for at least your first semester from the 2M. If you know anybody in your sch that can accommodate you for say a month will be nice, if not start visiting craiglist or padmapper. On campus job - you may get it, but first plan without it. For loan, cosigner is the 'koko'; if you have someone, then you're good to go. I wish you God's favor.

as regards visa application.i got admission into a US university but no funding aldoh dey sed if i do well after first semester i stand d chance of getting funding but i shld send an acct stmt of 4.1million naira to get I20 issue. Which am about to do but my question is
1) since d school require dis amount of 4.1m naira n av bin saving cos av bin working for five yrs now n all i culd get for my savings n friends hlp is 4.5m can i go to d embassy with a statement of account in my name (cos technically, i will be d one to sponsor myself )showing dis amount of 4.5m naira. Will it affect me?

2)d truth is i do not have uncle dat can sponsor me n my dad n mum dont have such an amount to be frank please what do i do cos am so disturbed cos of dis account statement.
3)will dey not say am a potential immigarnt?
4)Is it possible n av u seen a situation were student sponsor demselves for masters yet dey are not bounced?

@ successgrace, I guess you're going for an MSc program and I'll advise from that angle. Personally, I feel 4.5m is a good one to start with and if your account shows such turnover that is fine, there are a lot of self sponsored students. However, that will only cover for one year according to most I20's (In reality for grads it could be less). How about if the VO ask about your funding for the second year (normally no VO should ask because the rule is for applicant to show evidence of funding for one year), to me this just the question you should prepare for and pray. I feel you're good to go.

So my good people, I got the landed properties, It's 3 different landed properties with the C of O's, The 2 other ones in my Popsy's name for 1 Acres and 2 Plots and I got one on my name too with a Plot at Ikorodu, Building has commenced on my own since last year February till this time and I have all the pictures from scratch to lintel level that it is at this time. Would it be advisable that I include the photos so as to prove that I've ties to Nigeria. I just want all of ur advise this time around, No flaws at all.

Just have all your documents with should they need a proof. You may not even be asked. The best way to attend the interview is to be well armed with whatever you need. So should any question go in that direction, you are prepared. Just be yourself and only answer questions you're being asked.

Now to my my question, I see that in the white form the consular gave me I could recollect that he asked me for any other supporting docs to back my application after I gave him all I had, but I told him that's all I had with me that day. I know that this time around the consular will ask me for more supporting doc, Please what are the documents that can really show my ties to Nigeria? So that this time around I can add up to my documents, I don't wanna leave any lapses this time around at all.

Go with Eatmyshorts' advice. If you have docs (registration cert on a company owned by you, marriage certs etc) u feel can convince the , pls get them handy.

Yes, you will need to send the statement of account of your sponsor to the school when requested. This will be required to process your I-20.

It is advisable that you go to the embassy with a statement that can fund the first year of your program. What if they ask you 'should the funding be suspended what other option do you have?'. So look beyond the school funding.

This is a bit trickish. But let me answer it this way. Currently, there are more emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) but that doesn't say a business major will be denied based on his major. However, more importantly is the way you present your case. It's about PR and God factor.

From my little experience, what practical knowledge do you want to get from a BSc in computer science if you have 5 years experience as a core network operator. I know they're not the same, but they're kinda related to the VO. You may want to add more convincing stuffs as related to your job function and where you will be applying the knowledge.

@profginger, can you ask your school if they can receive a scanned copy or allow you fax the docs pending when they will receive what you sent via surface mail. It should normally be received between 2-3wks.
