obusco4lyfe: @house i sent my app doc since 8th of aug via NIPOST, til 2day my sch hs nt received my doc nd spring deadline z oct15, i tink itz tym 2 switch 2 planB. Pls i wnt 2 ask which courier service z cheaper 4 sendin doc frm naija 2 yankee ups, fedex or dhl?
As a plan C: I dont know this'obusco4lyfe' but I've read several of his posts about sending his docs. My point is this - I'll like suggest that if there's any of you guys that got your visas and will be traveling shortly, you may just be able to give him a helping hand. All you need do is to help him post from the US. Trust on either side is salient.

ekundayomi: what then is the use of the i20 if you dont have your admission letter at hand ..
Dayo,
As an Int'l student, technically your i-20 is also an admission letter and that's one of the useful documents for the VOs and immigration officers. The SEVIS number on it is unique and can be use to track your admission/school details. So even if you don't have an admission letter, but you have your i-20, you're good to go.

@imperiouxx,
Just smiling! To be candid, there was never any attempt to pick on you or anyone on this thread. It's funny though, because primary to any of my actions is helping others on this forum anytime I have the opportunity. Among the numerous issues of life, I feel fighting with someone that you don't know, you've never met, uses 'phy' as a dummy name on an online forum, doesn't know you have a grudge with him and was just sincerely making a point doesn't worth your invested annoyance and time.
Honestly, I can't believe my post will get you loose so easily which wasn't the intention and you know what, I apologize for it. But this doesn't stop me from making my point on issues I have an idea about any day. Continue to do your good work on this forum, work on your complexes/ temperament and always know that phy doesn't have any reason to pick on anyone.
Before I forget, hope your day went well? sweet sleep!

@ others
Thanks for your understanding and prior explanations before my response. I can assure you that I'm not here to score a point.

Thanks

imperiouxx: Good suggestion but if the government is to go by tracing people, then they start first from rapidshare.com and then go to all cracked game download sites and arrest them before coming after people downloading from these crack sites one by one. Piracy is hard to curb.
imperiouxx, biofem is telling you the truth. i know he may sound awkward and that it could be taken otherwise if someone raise the issue on this thread; but the fact is there's a law that can be enforced and they do that randomly. Forget about rapidshare, 4shared and the likes, once a person fall within the 'bounds' then be prepared for it. If the server is out of the US -cool! But if it's in this territory, they can clamp down on you anytime.

Thanks biofem for bringing this up.

oyewolejos: No where was i asked to provide work authorization during the course of registering my business and u don't work for your own business, u own it. U don't pay personal income taxes but u pay taxes for your business. I repeat your immigration status is immaterial to business registration. Even foreigners have companies in the US. Have u heard about Foreign LLC and Corporation? Do u know that your LLC paperwork from Naija is acceptable here (at least in my state)
I'm careful not to derail this thread.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by phy: 11:41pm On Aug 05, 2012
oyewolejos: The type of visa doesn't affect your business. A student can starts a business so far you have the capital.
Yes a student can start a business but cannot work for the business except you have work authorization. So how do you manage the business. People that I've seen with business registration waited till they got their H1.

GboyegaD: He truly is not because Yomifola usually post on the thread and if someone needs financial statement and he ask him to talk to him in private, it seems there is something dubious about his options.

fittty: Guys pls how do one differentiate a University from a College... How can one tell which school is a University or collegehuh?? Is it the name like XYZ university of XYZ collegehuhhuh
Sometimes name differentiates between the two, the more important one is the degree that you'll earn at the end of your program.

@deevick246, it's painful that some VOs take the GRE thing too far, unfortunately, appeal process is a long route. If you still have time, I'll advise you write your school asking for a waiver letter for GRE, however, we don't know who the next VO is but I'm sure it's not going to be the same VO. I just feel you deserve the visa. Imperiouxx got it the second time because of the initial GRE stuff, you may want to borrow from his audacity.

On off-campus jobs, if you are going to do any of such, pls make sure it is under the table no SSN and no direct deposit. These could affect your future filing. But personally, I'll advise that you try to get on-campus job.

@paywole, kpolli answered your question well. This was one of my interview questions and I responded by relating challenges in my industry to how my major will help provide solution.

You don't need to be scared, go for your interview and defend your case very well. Forget about marriage thing; if you have a business registration, i feel that's better and spice up your dj experience (you can add something like music production, studio management, instrumentalist and trainer). However, you must be ready to explain why you didnt attempt higher education for over 10 yrs and why US at this period.

I used Nigerian bank's visa card to pay for WES. In essence all dollar denominated visa cards from naija will work.

@larrypaddy

Square65 has answered your questions. I just want to add that you can get a letter from your school concerning the GRE, that could work. However, some VOs are uninformed.

Find Out!:
Guys, please someone needs some
advice here. Intend applying for Spring
(January)2013.

-B.Sc. microbiology, CGPA 3.48/5.00.

-Already started online application
process for 2 schools (Uni of Cincinnati* Environmental Health: Industrial
Hygiene* & Kent state Uni *MPH*).
Should complete by next week &
submit. Supporting documents will be submitted later.

-Studying hard for GRE, making
progress, intend taking it b4 end of
August.

-Applied for transcript at uni, shld be ready in about 3-4 weeks. -Will contact schools today to see if i
can apply for Ph.D straight (+M.S.
Combined) *to increase chances of
getting funding*

Questions:

1) Considering the time for decisions,
Visa processing etc, is a January start
date still feasible/possible? *yeah i kno
its a bit risky*

2) Does anyone have any info aspa
these two schools especially as regards
graduate scholarships/GA, RA e.t.c.

2b) Is TOEFL really necessary

3) Any other info that could be of
benefit? Thanks everyone. Cheers.
- January is very realistic provided you can meet up with your requirements timely.
- I don't know anything about the two schools, however, usnews ranking and the schools' websites could give you info that can guide your decision. For GA and RA stuff you may start checking the school websites and you can start making your inquiries from your dept ASAP. Note that GA and RA positions aren't automatic and your field is kind of competitive for such positions.
- TOEFL is not compulsory especially for graduate student. If they require it, write a strong letter to the requesting for a waiver, if they dont waive it, then you have to write it. For GRE, you may not have a choice on that.
- Do your research to find schools or programs that meet your need.

dr_dolittle: Bros relax...You can't do that here in Naija cos Nigerian banks dont issue such.Just ask someone you know in the US to help you issue a cheque to them with the details properly inputted on the cheque just as the school instructed. If you do online banking, transfer the equivalent amount of the expenses which the person you are sending has accrued...but you can do this after the person has helped you send the cheque o.
@obusco4lyfe, dr_dolittle: Please Nigerian bank issues cashier's check. I have done it before and in fact it is going to be issued with a check of their corresponding bank. Check Access Bank if you want to, and you'll pay some charges.

walex57: Bros ooo..thanks...how do i know if they convey students one way...cos it was one way i searched for...abeg tell me ooo...mi o fe shi flight wo ooo
All airlines allow one way, however in order to discourage this is some cases they make the one way price more or about the same to return.

As per food,
There may be some restrictions, but for someone like me, I brought food stuffs that lasted almost 2 months. This includes panla, cray fish, dried fish and all the smelly stuffs and non was seized at the POE. Just package your food well and when asked, tell them you have food in the bag.

product: I have a university i-20 with me . Tution is 25k .
Try to be reasonably consistent with what you filled in your past DS160. Get a WAEC scratch card handy this time around and make sure you package yourself well. Have a copy or printout of the result of any exams you have taken (TOEFL, SAT). If you haven't taken any exam, if possible try to get a letter or an email from your school indicating that you were exempted from the exams. I hope this is helpful

deevick246: What you seems to be bothered about is within your power. The V0 has no right to denied any applicant on the grounds that there is no continuation or progression in the line of study. That is why there are questions like these"why study this course or what benefit does this course hold to you?" ( For a graduate of Economics like you, you can say you are interested in working for the Nigeria government, you intend to join the Central Bank or ministry of Finance, to ensure that Budgets preparation and allocation are done without any bias and to ensure that the purposes for which the budget were allocated are well executed.....bla bla, this is just a hint)The onus lies on the applicant to educate the VO on why he or she has choose to follow this new study path and I tell you, this is where most people in this kind of scenario who didn't get their visas missed it. You need to be well armed as to why you are changing your study line in this particular time in your life. If you study the thread well, you will notice that recent interviews only requires portraying genuine study intention to the VO and not documents presentations as we have thought or has it has been before. The reason is simple, the VOs only want to accord genuine students the opportunity to actualise their dreams of going to the US to study. Best of Luck man.
Weldone deevick!

@fittty your questions are getting me a bit worried. Deevick took his time in his previous post and gave you different branches of pub admin and you're still scared. Even as an engineer I can apply for Pub admin, defend it before the VO and get the visa. Pls try to do more research about your major or any other major you're interested in very well - it is worth it. If truly you want to study as a means to integrate yourself into the system, pls give it the best shot.
