Its a personal decision to make. I took a decision recently and would work with that until something else comes on. If I have an option of being involved in an online philanthropy and doing a community service aka helping those around, I would take online philanthropy.

I will share an event that happened to me recently. I was sent on an errand to the hospital, in the course of running the errand, I met someone who needed what I could help with. I cleaned her bill by the grace of God. I walked away very happy believing God was waiting for me at the junction to bless me with the Bentley I have been eyeing. On monday, which should be roughly one month after I did what I did, I got a call from the office that some people were looking for me and insisted they must be attended to by me. That was scary until I was told they were elderly. (A couple, or looked like one). I still refused to see them but delegated another staff to attend to them. I got to the office on tuesday to see two biiiiiiiig heads of banana and a 4L gallon of redoil. The name doesn't ring a bell neither will I see them on the road and recognise them, but because they found out a way to reach me, they came to appreciate the gesture. This is what I DO NOT want! I don't want people blowing trumpets, or singing my tale. I prefer the philanthropy displayed here where noone can get through to me to try to show appreciation. If online philanthropy is discontinued, I would of all men be miserable. I find it hard helping out offline without it being linked back to me and I don't want that.
Very interesting tale

I feel you but hope you know online ish needs a framework to be effective

Many poor people in society, aishatu giving on Christmas? Islamic way of recruiting poor, gullible, uncontentious and innocent Christian to Islam. One of Islamic agendas. Beware
I had to laugh

However if a Muslim helps another human what us wrong with it
Is that not what the good Book says "when did we feed or cloth you Master.

As you did it to your brother or sister you did it onto me"

Moreover the sponsor is a christian

Online philanthropy is okay and should not be discontinued.

I am just not in tune with someone coming out to announce " I want to help someone and these are my conditions...."
Ok..however there needs be a way to identify genuine case
What do you propose

This sort of thing encourages marriage breakups and set the tone for feminism since this platform will give a voice/encouragement to it.

Op, while I encourage your laudable objective, I am of the opinion that only widows should benefit from the scheme but this just a harmless suggestion since you reserve the right to do your thing your way.
In a way you are not totally right
We are talking of economically challenged women who are trying to make ends meet now

Your premise will have a bearing when and if there is a systematic regional or national welfare system which is targeted at single mother and emasculates fathers or men.

If the fathers of these kids had taken some measure of responsibility when these kids were born, these women will not be where they are.

See this exercise as helping your neighbor

Very good question

However most kids are with their moms

If there is incontrovertible evidence that the father is responsible for the upkeep of the kids he can be considered

Person in need asking through the forum is completely different from someone that wants to give and organises a mini competition with judges....

Anonymous givers do not require cheerleaders!

Therein lies the hypocrisy for me. We don't need to know...the people that fits your criteria are right there in your community.
At the bolded it seems a lot of forum members share a belief in helping those around them rather than online people.

The question now should online philanthropy be discontinued.

while the posting online thingy may be true, you seem to forget that even here on nairaland, there are people who post things and in their posts, have alot of grammatical errors... The essay shouldnt be a requirement... If its that way then it means those who didnt have the opportunity of a sound education are not to take part. It wont be fair.... That would then mean another thing.... DISCRIMINATION.... I suggest s survey of som sort should be taken.
Thank you for the comment
The essay was waived as a requirement

A survey was used

Until you recognise that arsene does not possess the tactical nous to navigate top tier opposition toy will still be on a merry go round of ceaseless hope

If mourinho coached arsenal...yes
Threw a chance
But everyone knows his tactics already even Burnley

Too predictable

I don't believe in uefa draw, why will a team keep playing the same team for about three seasons in a row.

Let's expect one big match
Are u seriously asking thiis?

It is a result of the various constraints

Seeded teams, country and group constraints all make sure the pool of opponents are the same
If the country restrictions are removed..it opens up a plethora of match ups

Am glad u saw the humour of it all

Frankly i read your post three times while going up and down and am like "WTF is going here?" grin grin grin grin grin

Maybe u need to make it clear

My nominees

Dr Stella Adadevoh and the team of Lagos Medical professionals that made ebola in Nigeria a non issue
obi Ezekwezili for her steadfast championing of the cause of the Chibok girls

sadly this year was all about bombings and army running away from BH and now oil prices

bigtt76:
Na so I see am o! Funny though grin

My thoughts are for personalities such as the Late Dr Adadevoh whose singular act saved Nigeria(ns) from the Ebola Scourge while she herself succumbed to it is worthy of mention.

We also have the Chibok girls whose been detached from their parents and civilization for the past 300 or more days ...you can imagine with the hammattarn setting in they would be in the cold and no politician is thinking of that ....instead hearing of one promising 1 dollar to I naira exchange rate.

The many young Nigerian soldiers pushed prematurely to the war front and lost their lives. The average Nigerian citizen out there living on les than a dollar per day due to the prevailing hardship and corruptions all deserves to be be mentioned.

Many more deserving Nigerians who would never be acknowledged by the government all deserves the title Nairaland Nigeria's Person of the Year IMO undecided

Guys ...lets do it!
