Education / The Conversation… The Daya Danfo Driver Surprised Me by pigin: 8:56pm On Jan 23, 2015 |
I was on my way to Ojota from Oshodi in a yellow bus a.k.a Danfo bus. There were so many things so different about this bus. While the conductor was beckoning on me to join their bus, I noticed he didn’t look like the other conductors hanging at their doors croaking Ooo…joooo… ta aaa (Ojota). He wore a pair of canvass, his t-shirt had a drawing of Obama with a bold inscription across it “yes we can.” When I boarded the bus, I noticed the interior was so clean. The seats were also clean and padded unlike most Danfo buses I have boarded in Lagos. I sat directly behind the driver. The front seats were already occupied. At Oshodi Bridge the two occupants of the front seats alighted; I quickly alighted and jumped into the front seat. I was shocked, though pleasantly, when I heard what the driver was playing. He was playing one of my favourite motivational speakers, Earl Nightingale. I couldn’t believe I was listening to Earl Nightingale’s Direct line in a Danfo bus. “This is going to be a good day” I told myself. I glanced at the driver, he looked like he was lost in thoughts as Earl continued to marshal out some vital life’s points. I got the driver’s attention and the following conversation ensued… Me: Oga, you are listening to Earl Nightingale Driver: Yes please Yes please from a Danfo driver? I must be in a deep slumber. Me: you like Earl? Driver: Yes. He is one of my favourites. I listen to Earl up till 10am every day before I change the cd. I was so impressed. I was so happy to listen to this young man talk. I decided to push more. Me: So why Danfo bus? The young man laughed so heartily, cleared his voice and began his story. Driver: There is nothing much to say. It is the state of the nation. Me: Are you enjoying it. Driver: Yes. I am having fun. Me: Really? Driver: You look shocked. Why? Me: I am just wondering what is there to be enjoyed Driver: Well, it is not easy on the roads; however, I am enjoying this experience. Me: Wow. Driver: Anyway, it is a long story. But to cut the long story short, this is not what I originally set out to do. However, when the job was not forth coming, I decided to take the bull by the horn. So this is the bull and I will say I am comfortably manning the horns. Me: What course did you read? Driver: I read Education. Me: You didn’t want to teach? Driver: I did. I taught for two years in a private primary school. Me: So why did you quit? Driver: The take home pay wasn’t really taking me home. I chuckled at the way he said “the take home pay wasn’t really taking me home.” Me: So why did you say you are enjoying this job? The mad traffic, crazy drivers, annoying passengers and all? Driver: Every business has it downside. Those are ours. The challenge is in finding satisfaction and profitability in whatever you set out to do. Meanwhile our conversation was constantly disrupted by the conductor who kept reminding him of the bus stops passengers intended to alight and the request for ‘change’. The driver also told me he has two more buses and a football viewing centre in his area. The conductor that was working with him that day is his brother. He joins him whenever he is free. “When he is not around, I go with other boys, but I insist my conductors dress neatly and on no occasion abuse my passengers. Although most of the boys that work with me stay in my neighbourhood.” 1 Like |

DDeliverer:PLEASE RELEASE MUHAMMADU BUHARI'S RESULT, AND NOT MOHAMMED BUHARI'S The RESULT RELEASED is for MOHAMMED BUHARI and not MUHAMMADU BUHARI. The result released for Mohammed Buhari (not for MUHAMMADU BUHARI) Shows four credits in WASCE English Language C5 Hausa C5 Literature in English P7 History A3 Geography C6 Mathematics F9 THIS IS NOT A CERTIFIED TRUE COPY AND DOES NOT BEAR MUHAMMADU BUHARI'S NAME like all of his other documents as at when enlisting in the Army (see his application letter released by the army with his name correctly spelt) The Army statement http://army.mil.ng/Press-Release.html differed from Buhari's released result. According to the Army, Buhari's form NA 199A was filled (after commissioning as an officer) was filled as having 5 credits and one pass (English Literature) The subjects in the Army records (without the certificate) are English Language CREDIT Hausa CREDIT English Literature PASS History CREDIT Health Science CREDIT Geography CREDIT Hausa CREDIT However, the obviously hurriedly done Result, apart from showing a wrong name (MOHAMMED BUHARI), omitted HEALTH SCIENCE from his result thus showing only 4 CREDITS and ONE PASS instead of FIVE CREDITS and ONE PASS as filled in his form in 1961 (without the army sighting any of the CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of his result as filled). Moreover, he applied in October 1961 that he was still in school, the Army confirmed it. But the result is showing MAY/JUNE... Was there any state in 1961? It was just 3 regions we had .. NORTHERN, WESTERN and EASTERN |
Politics / Buhari: The Inconsistencies Continue by pigin: 7:48pm On Jan 22, 2015 |
Pa Buhari said: "I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including General Shehu Yar’Adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters." FACT: General Shehu Yar'Adua joined the Army in 1959. (See his profile on Wikipedia). Now I ask : Was Late General Shehu Yar’Adua in Secondary school with Pa Buhari in 1961, two years after he joined the Army? Was late General Shehu Yar’Adua in Secondary school with Pa Buhari at the same time that he was in Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst? Tell one lie, you will need 1million lies to cover that one lie# Nigerians are watching! Further observations on Buhari Statement of Result. Was there Katsina state in 1961? Kastina State was created in 1967 Did we have State Ministry of Education in 1961? In 1961 we never had Class(form) 6, in Nigeria we had Class(form) 1-5 Katsina was a province then, why was the result transfered to state ministry of education letter headed paper? How old was GMB then? See the passport on the result. Am just asking out of ignorance o.. Did results didnt come with pictures at that time. SSCE result didnt have my picture attached to it in 1988 talk more of 1961.... 1 Like |
Politics / Vote For Buhari !!! by pigin: 2:04pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
A silent revolution is taking place in Lagos. Everyday, thousands of Lagosians are escaping the hustle and bustle of Lagos traffic by traversing the mainland in the new air condition Diesel Multiple Unit trains. These trains were introduced by my administration as a fore taste of our plan to develop an inter and intra city high speed train network for Lagos. The Federal Government has already signed a $1.5 Billion contract for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Train. This service, when complete, will make it possible to live in Ibadan and work in Lagos. This is progressing simultaneously with the $12 Billion Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project. This project is 1,402 kilometers long and will link Lagos to Calabar with stops at cities along the route. We have good plans for Lagos, plans that will ensure that Lagos continues to be the Center of Excellence and a pride to Nigeria. GEJ. 1 Like |
Romance / The Great Debate: At What Stage? by pigin: 5:51pm On Jan 15, 2015 |
Ladies and gentlemen, get in here the debate is raging and raging very hot too. I was in a setting of some single ladies and bachelors. The topic was so keenly debated that none of the sides was willingly to concede defeat. So I came off the debate not knowing who won or who was right. The ladies were more outspoken about the topic than the guys. A few of the guys that attempted to air their opinion were branded selfish and biased because the subject matter seemed to favour them. As usual, if the issue is not debated HERE ON THIS FORUM, it has not been debated at all. So I expect us to thoroughly debate this issue to the best of our ability. So here is the gist. At what point is it advisable for a lady to lend money to a guy she just started going out with. Is it from the first month or from the third month or the sixth month or until he proposes? Especially when this guy knows that you earn more money than he does. Is it advisable at all and if yes, at what point? Let me fill you in with what some of the ladies said. One of the girls who felt that it is not appropriate to lend your guy some money especially at that early stage argued that it amounts to setting yourself up for some kind of parasitism. Once the guy knows that he can easily get money from you or whatever name you want to call it, he will keep coming back with new reasons to collect more money from you. She concluded by saying that she will never lend money to any guy until she was certain that the guy is very serious with her, in fact, she mentioned that the guy had to propose first. The next girl said she wouldn’t mind to lend her guy the money even from the first month of their relationship. But she added a caveat which others thought was weak. The lady said as long as she was sure the guy will not default in paying back the money. So the argument digressed a bit and the question changed also. Others were like, how are you sure he will not default, since the journey just started? The last girl said the best thing to do to be on a safer side is not to lend at all or if you must lend, lend what you can afford to lose. Like I mentioned, the guys sounded biased according to the ladies. The guys argued that it does not matter as far as there is genuine love between the two parties. So which side do you belong to? What is your take? |
Politics / Failbuhari: Is The Money For His Children Falling Out Of The Sky? by pigin: 5:42pm On Jan 15, 2015 |
BUHARI’S FIFTH DAUGHTER ZAHRA is living and schooling in the University of Surrey, UK, where her tuition and expenses are up to £30,000 EACH YEAR (N8m)! Yet, Buhari has BEEN CLAIMING to #Nigerians that he is poor, with ONLY N1m left in his account and 150 cows on his farm! Is the money for his children falling out of the sky? Is he only PRETENDING to be penniless to STEAL THE VOTES of the average Nigerian? WE ARE WAITING for Buhari to explain to the SHOE MAKERS, GATE MEN, CORP MEMBERS, and YOUTH that donated their last kobo to his campaign. Politics / Footballer Released From Jail After Accuser Contacts Him On Facebook by pigin: 6:49am On Jan 14, 2015 |
A high school football star who was once one of the most highly- sought players in the country has had a rape charge against him dismissed after his accuser admitted it had never happened. Brian Banks, 26, who spent six years behind bars in California, collapsed in sobs during a court hearing as a prosecutor quickly conceded the decade-old case and moved for a dismissal. 'There are no words in any language, no gesture in any culture that can explain or describe what I have been through,' said Banks. 'I hope my story brings light to a major flaw in the judicial system. Once a standout football star, Brian Banks, pictured weeping after his rape conviction was dismissed last year, was just 16 when a classmate accused him of kidnapping and raping her It came after the woman who accused him, Wanetta Gibson, added him as a friend on Facebook when he left prison with a tag. In a message, she explained she wanted to 'let bygones be bygones'. Banks's lawyer, Justin Brooks, told KPCC that Gibson and Banks met and she was caught on video saying there there had been no kidnap and no rape, and would help him clear his record. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2149462/Brian-Banks-One-time-football-star-rape-charge-dismissed-years-prison-accuser-contacts-Facebook-say-happened.html |
Religion / Sermon That Touches The Heart: This Egyptian You See Today by pigin: 8:17pm On Jan 12, 2015 |
Aiemapt my Egyptian friend finally accepted to attend a church service with me after dragging his feet for more than three months. By 7:30am the following Sunday, I was already parked in front of his apartment waiting for him to join me. I love attending second services. We made it in time to church; that gave us the privilege of choosing our choice location. We sat two rows away from the podium, directly facing the altar. The worship songs were on point; I was surprised Aiemapt Egyptian friend could sing a couple of songs. We danced and clapped to the songs as they come one after the other. Aiemapt touched me to say that he liked the atmosphere in the church, “Nigerians are indeed a happy people” he added. I was happy he was enjoying himself, so I quickly extended another invitation to him. “So we come again next week?” I requested. “Sure, why not?” Aiemapt replied. I was happy at the response and shook him very warmly. I’m sure we attracted some eyes to us the way we shook. After about an hour, the intensive praise and worship came to an end. As we reached for our seats, the congregation applauded the praise team, my Egyptian friend was not left out in the applause. It wasn’t long the ‘man of God’ mounted the podium for the day’s sermon. After the initial exchange of pleasantries, he delved into ‘the word’. “Open your bibles to Exodus 14:13. ” After the reading of the scriptural passage, the pastor lifted a line off the passage and asked us to tell our neighbour “the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more forever.” I looked at Aiemapt, he looked at me, I couldn’t utter a word. He crossed his arm over my shoulder and said “don’t worry, we are used to this kind of sermon.” |

Politics / The Bigger The Ring, The More Likely Couples Will Divorce, Study Suggests by pigin: 9:43am On Oct 14, 2014 |
The bigger the rock, the rockier the marriage? A new study from Emory University indicates that the more expensive the engagement and wedding rings are, the less likely the marriage will last. Researchers Andrew M. Francis and Hugo M. Mialon uncovered some facts that may make women think twice about begging for a rock worth thousands. They found that men who spent anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 on an engagement ring were 1.3 times more likley to get divorced than men who spent $500 to $2,000. But frugal men who spent less on a ring were not completely off the hook, either. The study shows that men who spent less than $ 500 were associated with an increase in divorce as well. And just because you spent within the $500 to $2,000 range does not clear you from the danger zone. The study also shows that women whose weddings cost $ 20,000 or more were more likely to end up divorced than those whose weddings cost $5,000 to $ 10,000. But again, there's a catch. If only $1,000 or less was spent on the wedding, divorce is also imminent. So here's scientific proof that, while a diamond lasts forever, a marriage might not. Source: study has shown |
