From what I have seen, the cu986 flowers @ 3weeks, that's a week faster than Saira in most cases! I hope my Oga @safarifarm can update us on happenings over there....and good news to Saira F1 farmers in Akwa Ibom, the price of seeds has finally crashed and it's readily available at most shops within uyo metropolis, thus, before cu986 can convince us to abandon the cheaper Saira, it will have some serious miracles to perform.
CU986 is 46days from planting while saira is 50days from planting.........i can put my money to tell you that saira produces morethan cu986....

I am placing my bet that cu 986 will perform better than nandini,we have planted it before by mistake thinking it was cu999,the yield was very high indeed,we will wait and see the outcome of this challenge
I beg to differ in your answer about nandini.....amongst the east west seed, saira produces more followed by kayin and then nandini but nandini produces morethan CU986....I have planted virtually all Thai agro seeds and east west seeds, so I can say for a fact that nandini is better than CU986.....infact I lost a hundred thousand plus on seeds I bought from thia agro last year December, because the sold me expired CU100 seeds and to my friends I recommended to buy it too that period...the seeds never germinated at all, they only compensated me with 1/5 of the seeds I bought....I lost time and money... There best is CU999 and the rest is just jaraaaa....

You guys are worried about which dark green cucumber cultivar to plant, grin grin grin if you were in my place, then you'd commit suicide seriously angry sad we do light green cucumbers around here, and these cultivars are mainly monoecious (strong male flowering) and we have little to choose from, it's really sad and annoying over here o
In portharcourt, cu999 can only be profitable during the dry season and bad market for raining season.... Every state has a specific variety of cucumber that is marketable there and so I always recommend to farmers to do a market research of which type of variety is preferable.

it is always refreshing to read such an inspiring post, but harvesting 12 bags from 50 grams of seed from a rookie farmer is quite astonishing, take the fact that max crop that can be gotten from 50 grams is roughly 1500 crops,at 100 fruits per bag,we are looking at 1200 fruits which is almost 80% yield,,this is the area that cu 999 beats hands down yield and diease resistance, personally i don't think there's a variety now in the market that can rival cu 999 in yield side by side,i will not be surprised if the production clocks 50 bags before die off ,well done OP,pls apply npk 151515 to each crop,it's well.
Nandini from eastwest seed rival CU999.....Marketing is key in agriculture cos in Portharcourt CU999 is a NO NO during the raining season.....

I don't know if that's how it is now, or I never came across this particular type or maybe I bought an adulterated one. Plus I've not seen results like the previous ones. Possible suggestions from here will be of help
The green coloured one is for growth stage while the pink coloured one is flowering stage....

Hello everyone, I keep getting calls from people asking if I'm still in the game? Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm expanding and growing my farm. Agriculture is the way forward and I do have a passion for it. Its all about persistence and perseverance. You just have a big picture in your heart but start small. Farming is sweet.

I didn't pay for any ebook or for knowledge from the advices and eye opening ideas I got from my mentor, the director of eagle foods processing, anambra state,I don't have any choice but to share whatever little I know so people can take their destiny in their own hands.
I'm a farmer in Rivers state and I've being farming cucumber since 2015 and I'm still very much in the game. Farming is sweet if only we can have patience to WORK the WORK. Its very funny how people will want to replicate result of someone who had being consistent over time with persistence to learn what it takes to increase your harvest. We always want to over look the part of mentorship especially if it will cost us money. Even with my little experience I still travel till date to visit peoples farm as no one knows is all. When I started farming I was happy with 30bags per plot but right now my result is like over 70bags per plot but I'm still trying to hit the 100bags per half plot by okoroemeka which I know is possible. The pandemic and lockdown period in Rivers State actually favoured my as I sold my cukes at a high price but now the price has crashed as the lockdown has being lifted. Farming is innovations, cost and good agricultural practice and not forgetting good marketing skills. Sorry guys for this long epistle, I've being wanting to say something as I'm a silent reader all these while. Farming is a FULL TIME WORK not part time.

after several experiments on using organic chicken manure(ocm) for fertigation in cucumbers we finally decided to use the method of soaking the OCM in a big vat not putting it in bags and pouring water into it and after turning for 3-4 days the mixture is left to settle for a day so that the solid materials will sediment at the bottom, this method gives faster extraction of nutrients in the OCM,so we simply skim the solution and filter with a fine mesh,we have no method to check the nutrient composition of the OCM but the solution is so potent that if it drops on cucumber leafs that area will turn white in hours just like urea, the organic fertigation was a success no blocked emitters no dramas.with this method it's a cost cutting solution on feeding crops small dose of nutrients even on a daily basis with no added stress either on the body or in the pocket.
sir, how many nets do you estimate will cover one plot of land and the cost per each bundle...thanks

Total monalisa, first pic and total cu999,last pic,I just pity any farmer that plants monalisa,cu 999 yielded 97% of the cucumbers we harvested today was cu 999,we got 7 bags and I doubt if it's monalisa we planted through we may not have up to 2 bags, the results surprised even us,I know that cu999 will win but I didn't forsee a comprehensive demolition
Please telling people about the sweetness of planting CU999 should come along with the warning that its not every state that accepts it into their market as it has season when its favourable to plant it. I'm speaking from experience with someone who has made and lost money with CU999 in Rivers State...Every state has its unique specie and marketing should always be the numbers one thing to be done in farming before venturing into any crop or veggie. Uniformity is the KEY. Just watch how bees move on your farm, and you will get the idea of how to do it. My style may be different from yours. But I let there be uniformity for easy access for the bees to the males..Some varieties come with monoecious already, so watch out else, you will harm your yield if you do not know. And those that come without given you signs to identify them should be tossed away no matter how good they say they are. Exactly the reason I tossed away Darina to focus on parthenorcarpic.

If you have to stake, prune, and you want to add hand pollination, you will kill your back. lol. Let bees do their job. Let butterflies enjoy your farm. They are good pollinators.

But if you find hand pollination interesting, I encourage you to move a step forward into hybrid seed production. It is worth travelling to Isreal, US, Holland, India, or Thailand for a course on it. Do not bother wasting your time with do called institutions here. But if you are a friend of any doctor or professor in Nigeria, just stay your but here and stick with him. Those guys know more than the people you want to meet outside Nigeria. You will learn more from them by talking to them, than attending general training. Farming veggie is an interesting science subject for me. Not only the business area. Cos many are pushed into it cos of money. I do not attend accept old people or pensioners again. They are not productive. They are only looking for income for themselves. So, I am not sure why they are alway encouraged to go into Agriculture after retirement. To do what? They wanna use old age to farm, when they should have established cash crop plantations in their middle ages like their fathers did through Obafemi Awolowo. What is 60 years and above trying to do on farm? Well, I do not doubt some who can fig deep, but most of them want consultants that do not know jack. And these set of people are stubborn. They have ways of manipulation consultants to their will. I don't deal with such set of people again. Never and Never! Farming has taught me so much about human beings. Forget the holiness they portray in Mosques on Fridays, and in churches on Sundays. Most people are dem.ons, selfi.sh, and sel.fcentered.

Can I have volunteers
So as to show how possible this is, maybe you guys should volunteer to carry out my style, and let them post as many pictures as they want here....not just my style. I use nutrients that are affordable, but expensive for many. So, I will give incredible discount for the volunteers. I am not in a position to go to any farm now. But if you can take instructions via chatting apps, you have enough manure, you can dedicate 25 to 40 days to prepare your manure and turn it to fortified compost, you can use mulch, you can use drip, you can send samples of your soil so I can just check (not soil test, but another quick check which is another trick I learned from a Japanese), get in touch for either tomato or cucumber. And let us display it here. Lastly, you must have cultivated cucurbits or Solanum families around 2 to 3 years last on that spot you want to use. Most of you have destroyed your land and the environment with continuous mono-cropping.

If you qualify, and you are interested to show all readers this, hook up with me within 24 hours. That's all I will say here.

As I am wrapping off this thread, and deliberating making the thread go into archive for those who can dig deep to search it out, and read. Not everything is for the general public. This is my believe. Knowledge has a way of sinking down deep so that the most hard working can only search it out.
I am interested.

Skin is rough, very light skin, extremely sweet (brix level is extremely high), huge yield, tolerant to extreme heat, and majorly sold to malls and grocery stores. Open market will not accept it cos it spoils easily in the sun. We like bad things in Naija. Those hard skinned cukes are sold cos they favor traders and retailers. Dem no send you the consumer. If you want the best cukes, go for light skin and return to say I am a liar. Cu999 is one one the most tasteless cucumber I have ever eaten. Eat that stuff? Never again. lol. I will never allow it grow big if I want to eat it. In fact, I cannot. With those hard seeds inside. Not me. May be you.

The seeds are expensive too. Can you buy 1 seed for N20 to around N90? If you can, I will give you contacts.

Of course you can cultivate it outside. I said new varieties can tolerate up to 40C. You think say na joke? Not all. Some are for extremely cold like during winter. We do not have winter here. This technology is from Israel for extreme harsh weather areas. And the yield is crazily high.

But the market here is so limited. You can only do max of 1,000 plant to start with to test the market if you.can hustle it out. It can produce for 6 months if under greenhouse, but will die in 2 months outside. I have removed 65 from a variety over 2.5 months. I was leaving the apartment so I removed the plant, else, it was still rocking. what do you expect when you have 3 to 4 cukes per node, and no pollination, with hydroponics, hahahha. I better do just 1/8 plot than set up 15 useless plots far away in the bush.
I'm up for it because I believe in my passion for agriculture and my zeal to know more. No one knows it all, so when you meet someone with superior knowledge than yours, why not keep calm and learn. You know market differs and I stay in Rivers state, so I might need a cucumber that can easily penetrate the market. I do hope the said variety is light green and the skin smooth, if that's the case we are set for the seeds. Thanks

My 1 year Schedule for Tomato

Why must it be only cucumber?

Difference between Tomato and Cucumber
1. Cucumber is fast paced, while tomato not.
2. Cucumber brings faster return while tomato at the right time brings heavy, slamming, and unbeatable profit.
3. Cucumber requires more handiwork, while tomato requires more mental work.
4. Cucumber cannot just be eradicated 100%, but 100 ha of tomato can be destroyed. As the main man on site, you must be alert.
5. Cucumber can be rushed, but my suggestion is move gradually into tomato. Therefore, I came up with a year plan.

June - September
1. Scout for varieties which appeal to you. Sterilize your soil and get around 3 pots for each varieties. Start learning
2. Go for soil test of the sites you want to use.

October
1. Do your first nursery systematically for all the varieties just for a plot of land (scale up or down as it suits you). You will be doing nursery every month. Until you get the best for you. This is if you do not do soil test.

2. If you do soil test, you start working on fortifying or getting varieties that can with stand all the soil pathogens you get from the result. I call this Systematic trial and error.

November to January
I believe you should continue with 1 plot each month. By end of February, you should have known the best for you. Hmmmm But this is tricky as you have been working in dry season, but about to break into rainy season.

I work on getting another variety and combine it with the one I want to use. Two varieties. One to tackle the soil, the other for fruiting and to tackle environmental diseases. It is why I posted somewhere that most good seeds for advance nations do not take deadly soil pathogens found in Africa into consideration too much. It is Asians that try to add soil and air diseases tolerance in seeds. Advance nation rarely do it. Nematode, Verticillium, Fusarium 0, 1,2 are common diseases. But most varieties resist only nematodes well. The rest, they resist weakly, but the manufacturer always just list both weak, intermediate and high tolerances together without telling you the details. Also, production of smaller fruits is the opportunity cost for the combo of air and soil diseases from my observation. I think its the reason the likes of platinum, cobra produce less than 100grams fruits. This is why I ditched all Asian seeds. But going by advance style which I use, all soil diseases with bacteria wilt are super highly resisted.

In addition, I check for vigor. If the original plant is like 30cm spread, mine can be 40cm after fortifying them. If vigor is increase, a variety which produces 140g - 220g can give me more 210g -250g with few 300g fruits. Thats the power of making the fruit stronger. Again, I innoculate the soil with microbes that will make them feed bastardly. So, if the maker tells,me to use 30kg of anything, I increase it to 40 to 50kg.

I also love fortifying for drought tolerance during dry season, and flood tolerance for rainy season. Flood is a problem which will kill the best seedlings during rainy season. If you submerge my seedling in water for 72 hours, that is 3 days, they will never wilt. I believe if there is any area of the farm with flood, 3 days can be used to quickly correct it. But if you don't have that be ready that within 12 hours, if your root is soaked in water, that can destroy all your plants. And what if it happens at night?

You can replicate some seedlings by intentionally creating artificial drought or flood during trials from August to November. You intentionally use overhead to irrigate some at 6pm so you watch how they can resist environmental diseases. And many more...

These are common sense procedures I developed by myself. No one taught me.

February to early April
Move ahead with the nursery of your main production. Do it in batches also.

Note Operation is easier and smoother when you do soil test. I don't joke with it. But where to really do it in Nigeria is what I do not know. I have tried couple of places but they gave me terrible results with flaws.

You should be able to make significant amount from May to August with this approach. It depends on your style. You don't wanna use mulch and drip, please downsize drastically. This is just a guide as I expect you to adjust it to suit you.

You should continue doing cucumber, habanero, watermelon, etc for operational cost covering. Half plot is ok if you get it right. And you move around your farm to observe crop rotation. Doing a project from October to April before getting good sales is not easy. Let cucumber assist you in running your farm. My view is that 3 times continious cultivation on same spot should be the worst case scenario.

I love watermelon. And will write the intensive approach soon. Hmmm! Let me keep this one for now. Maybe in the future. Believe me dry season watermelon on just 1 plot with intensive approach is mad profit But start up is high. So, harvesting 1/2 plot every 2 weeks is like ritual money.

But the major hindrance is bad workers. No matter how good your plan is, if you don't have reliable workers, forget it. Learn from me. I have given up on them. If you think you can pull it up using them, good luck. But not me.
The belt alpha seeds looks like the skin is rough. If NO, where can I get the seeds and can it planted in Open field with regards to it no being pollinated by another cucumber. Thanks

I've being okay with 50bags on a plot but getting to hear the stats that you outlined and with a brief research I know its possible but frankly speaking its a tall order. Please sir can you give us detailed outline or a direct path to follow with little guidance and maybe people like us will take it up from there.
