Christianity EtcRe: What Makes You A Christian: Studying The Bible Or Praying? by pitoski(m): 12:49pm On Dec 16, 2012
vizion: Neither. What percentage of time did Jesus spend reading the bible, or praying?

Being a christian, means trying to leave like Christ. To me it means showing genuine love/sacrifice to those around you.
but you need to read the bible to learn more and live the life of christ. And you need prayers to get divine energy/inspiration to maitain such level f life.
Christianity EtcRe: What Makes You A Christian: Studying The Bible Or Praying? by pitoski(m): 12:46pm On Dec 16, 2012
Both will make you a complete christian. Your prayer will not be effective without adequate knowledge of his word which you get by reading the bible. Remember the Bible says: "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing the word of God."

mankevo: Adeboye prayed for him in 2010 (when he just took over from Yar'adua and was impresing Nigerians)
After the prayer he won the 2011 election and became gross incompetent in handling our afairs
After this 2012 prayer, he will loose the remaining courage and QUIT!!

Thank you Adeboye___at least a bloodless revolution is in the AIR!!
Do not conclude your judgement on GEJ regime until after he resigns. I may not like GEJ methods, but certainly the privitisation of both the Power and Oil sector is what I am really happy about becos of its benefits. Developed countries have already privitised these areas. Don not forget, Nigeria will not change overnight considering all the years of corruption.

I think we need to reduce insulting GEJ and pray more for him. His position is not an easy one. He needs our prayers more than our insults. Too much insult will lead us nowhere.
PoliticsNigeria Ranked No 7 In Money Laundering Worldwide by pitoski(op): 6:39pm On Dec 15, 2012
The quest by the Federal Government to tackle corruption squarely received another challenge as a recent report from the U.S based Strategic Study and Advocacy Group the Global Financial Integrity recently rated Nigeria in the first 10 leading nations in the incidence of money laundering.

This practice has been one of the major tasks the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has had to combat as the past five years have witnessed unprecedented cases of money laundering involving former governors, legislators, cabinet members and captains of Industry.

It will be recalled that banking tsunami of 2009 saw heads of leading banks then in the country, indicted for amongst other charges money laundering. Most of their assets identified were seized or frozen.

Former military dictator, late General Sani Abacha also had a phenomenal track record of money laundering with foreign accounts he opened in the Swiss Banks amounting to billions of dollars.

This report which rated China as number 1 in the money laundering cases with $274 billion average per year, showed once again how the scheme employed by greedy politicians and businessmen especially in the third world has contributed to the undervelopment of their countries.

Nigeria for example would have experienced significant changes, transformation and development if the money laundering cases of some politicians and businessmen had been given severe judgements and prosecution, which would have served as a deterrent to others.

The report according to the GFI Director Mr Raymond Baker states that “Astronomical sums of dirty money continue to flow out of the developing world and into offshore tax havens and developed country banks. Regardless of the methodology, it’s clear: developing economies are haemorrhaging more and more money at a time when rich and poor nations alike are struggling to spur economic growth. This report should be a wake-up call to world leaders that more must be done to address these harmful outflows.”

The Group called for more transparency from Governments in the third world countries and more rigorous reforms in the financial institutions that will curtail and prevent any excesses carried out by banks in their operations especially when it has to do with foreign transactions.

[quote author=GARRI (x7)]Pastor Tunde Bakare's son & NYSC commandant trade slaps in NYSC Ondo camp

Story written by Stella Dimoko Korkus for Encomium Magazine

It was with tension and on edge that those who witnessed this exchange of slaps whisper this gist. According to them, 'coloured trousers had been banned within the camp and the camp commandant spotted Pastor Tunde Bakare's son, Tunde Jnr in black trousers. When apprehended, the lad asked the commandant if he didn't know he was the son of Tunde Bakare, the son of the popular preacher. The commandant immediately delivered a slap on the face of the young man and Tunde Jnr replied with his own slap.

Tunde's mum had given the commandant a number to call when she dropped off her son in camp, so immediately this incident occurred, the commandant called Mrs Bakare and after a few words, the phone was handed to Pastor Tunde Bakare himself. After hearing what had happened, Pastor Bakare asked that his son be disciplined for disobeying camp rules. The phone was on speaker and Tunde Jnr heard his father's instructions and as soon as the phone call ended, Tunde Jnr went down on his knees and started begging. The matter has since been resolved.

Secondly, Nairaland is not among the 5 techies listed in the article.

Thirdly, an establishment can no longer be described as a "start up" if it had been in existence since 2005!

PoliticsKidnappers Demand Okonjo-iweala’s Resignation by pitoski(op): 10:14pm On Dec 12, 2012
Negotiations have begun in earnest with the kidnappers of Prof. Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who was kidnapped on Sunday in Delta State.

THISDAY gathered Tuesday that the kidnappers had contacted the Okonjo family during which they listed conditions for the release of the minister’s mother, chief of which was that the family should part with N200 million.

It was learnt that the abductors first demanded the resignation of the minister as a precondition for the release of her mother.

The demand for N200 million was made after an initial demand for N1 billion, which the family made clear it could not pay.

According to sources, the abductors who telephoned the family at noon on Monday, initially demanded to speak with Okonjo-Iweala, but were not allowed to do so.

Rather, they were made to speak with the eldest son of the victim, Onyema, who relocated to Ogwashi-Uku on Monday to coordinate the release of his mother.

However, the minister, who was also ready to travel to Ogwashi-Uku, was advised against the trip by the Delta State Government and security agents.

It was learnt that the abductors first demanded the resignation of the minister as a precondition for the release of her mother.

Security sources said Onyema, however, insisted on speaking with his mother to ascertain the state of her health and to be sure that he was not dealing with impostors before he could negotiate with the abductors.

After he had spoken with his mother, whom sources said was alive and well despite the trauma, the kidnappers changed their demand by asking Okonjo-Iweala to bring the money the Federal Government had recovered from oil marketers who had abused the fuel subsidy scheme.

Further negotiations with the kidnappers made them reduce the ransom from N1 billion to N200 million, it was learnt.
“We are waiting and hope that progress can be made,” one of the sources told THISDAY.
Onyema, in a telephone interview with THISDAY, however, debunked media reports that the kidnappers had demanded $1 billion as ransom.

He said: “We do not have any further information at this time. I do not know where people got the story that the kidnappers are asking for $1 billion ransom; that is certainly not true.

“As soon as we get any information, we will keep you informed. But we have not heard anything from them so far, it’s all rubbish and rumours that they are asking for $1 billion.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba, also denied the report that the kidnappers were demanding $1 billion ransom.
He said his command had deployed personnel to the nooks and crannies of the state in search of the kidnappers.

Aduba stated that the police had arrested the queen’s police orderly, who was supposed to be on duty on the day she was kidnapped, another policeman and two domestic staff in the palace over the incident.

“Some arrests have been made, but I cannot disclose those who have been arrested for security reasons. We cannot disclose some information because of the sensitive nature of the investigation we are carrying out.

“Our major concern is to ensure that mama is rescued. We have spread our dragnet to all the nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.
It was also learnt that the state government is trying to use backroom channels to facilitate the release of the minister’s mother.

Another source said several people, aside from the efforts by the police and other security agencies, were working “underground” to free Okonjo.

He said an informal body of local indigenes had been commissioned to scan the various surrounding communities for clues that might lead to the rescue of the retired professor.

“We are confident that by the close of the day (yesterday), the fog around it would have been clearer. Our interest is in her rescue in the soonest possible time,” he said.

THISDAY checks also revealed yesterday that Okonjo’s abduction has raised concern over the security situation for residents of Ogwashi-Uku.
They are now apprehensive about engaging in social activities because of the heavy presence of security operatives in the town.

“The situation here remains the same, everywhere is calm, security people are everywhere and one has to restrict his movement for now to avoid being used as a scapegoat by these security people because for them everyone is a suspect,” a resident said.

Investigations further revealed that the local vigilantes have been helping security agents comb the bushes in and around Ogwashi-Uku for possible clues on the whereabouts of the kidnappers.

Reacting to kidnapping, Senate President David Mark Tuesdayjoined others to plead for the release of the minister’s mother.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, Mark urged the abductors to release Okonjo because of her age. She is 83.

According to him, “The abduction of any Nigerian is condemnable. The abduction of the mother of a notable Nigerian like Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is an attack on the international reputation of our dear country.”
