Timothy Here Again, It is 31days to your ICAN Exams and I know how you will be feeling right now. Especially, if you are very busy and just want to get started with your studies. A question that will go through your mind is _How do I start studying when I feel like I have lagged behind in my studies? I feel so unmotivated with that thought and do not even want to start my study session thinking I can never catch up._ We all have felt this someday, maybe due to illness, laziness or any other personal reasons. But there is always a way to get back up. Here are some tips for finding motivation to study. 1. Remember to break the lagged behind syllabus into smaller parts and don’t start studying them all at once. But study some each day. 2. Change locations. do not study at the same place for a long time, you are going to feel bored. Study at a cafe, or a library or a friends house. 3. To rejuvenate your interest in studying except you want to continue the vicious circle. 4. Know your goals, and also why you want to achieve them. Learning about yourself will help you to know why you want what you want. 5. Try different studying methods. Everyone is different, so focus on what works best for you. 6. Give yourself time. Keep believing in yourself. Things will improve if you give yourself some time. Want to pass your ICAN Exams and qualify or move to the next level? Timothy Here Again, Today makes it exactly 32days to your ICAN November 2021 Diet exams. That is, you have 6 weeks to prepare for your ICAN Exams. I understand that you may have not decided yet whether to register for the exams or not, because a lot of things demanding your attention, especially from job and other family commitments. This is okay, but for how long do you want to keep pushing what you should have done today till tomorrow knowing very well that everything affects everything else? A classical example was one of our students who bought FA and MI 5 diets ago, and his friend that he introduced PGOLD Videos to. Let me call his name Taye and his friend, Tobi. Both of them had busy schedules, family commitment and other factors demanding their attention. When Taye bought the MI Videos 5 diets ago. He introduced Tobi to it that same diet and Tobi took it, did everything we asked him to do and progressed with this newly-found method of study. Currently, Tobi got qualified May 2021 diet while Taye is yet to register for the MI Exams not to talk of passing it. It is not that Taye does not want to move to the next level, it is just that he has developed the habit of pushing his Exams to the next diet and also waiting for a perfect time in an imperfect world. Hence, Tuesday 9th November 2021 is the deadline for the ICAN Exam registration, decide now who you want to run with between Taye and Tobi before the registration closes. The ball is in your court. Timothy Here Again, Yesterday, I sent you a post regarding how to beat procrastination. It will be incomplete without giving a practical example. Like I said in our earlier post, that procrastination starts from within. Those self-talk. Hence, What does changing the way you talk to yourself sound like? Here are 3 examples. #1. Instead of reacting to a difficult task by saying, “I can’t do it!” say “How about I try?” When you reach an obstacle, don’t immediately respond in the same way you typically do with words like “I can’t do this right now!”. Or “This is impossible, I shouldn’t even write the exams because I am not sure if I will pass!” or “Forget it. Too much exam stress. I’ll quit this diet and prepare for it next diet.” #2. Instead of overwhelming yourself with sayings such as, “I have all these things I HAVE to do today!” focus on only one thing. Chances are that you’re overwhelming yourself by thinking of a long list of things you’ve already been procrastinating on. Instead of doing that, ask yourself this question each morning: “What is the ONE THING I am committed to completing today?” #3. Instead of postponing your studies by saying, “I’ll do it later!” study cognitive papers as early as possible. Also, deep work such as reading is any kind of analytical thinking that requires the most concentration. Simply put, you need to develop the habit of concentration; starting and completing your project e.g ACA qualification. Still writing your ICAN November Diet? Timothy Here Again, With your ICAN Exam getting closer, there is a high tendency that you might want to push the exams again to the next diet. Well, I am not here to tell you about what is making you procrastinate, because we all have our different versions of it. But, how can you stop procrastinating severely especially regarding your exams? I won’t lie to you. If you really want to stop this habit (and it’s something many students are also trying to do, so you’re definitely not alone in this), you’ll have to take some prompt and immediate action. It will require you to change some things in your life and habits. It will be necessary to get out of your comfort zone. And more than anything else, it will require you to change the way you talk to yourself. Those certain words and phrases you use all the time — you’ll need to say goodbye to them. Those excuses that you come up with on a daily basis — you’ll have to let them go. Those external circumstances, obstacles that show up out of nowhere, people who are preventing you from achieving success — you’ll have to turn the other way. It will all have to be different. Which, of course, will cause you discomfort at first. But that’s where you’ll need to stick with the plan and keep moving ahead. To some extent, beating procrastination means you don’t get to quit — and you don’t allow yourself to stay in the same vicious cycle from diet to diet. You make one tiny change today. And another one tomorrow. And one more after that. You keep going. Want to stop procrastinating and avoid the vicious circle diet to diet? Timothy Here Again, Getting the right material is one thing, understanding what you are taught is another. As a human and a known fact, you do your best to avoid causing harm to your loved ones. Because you are enlightened and you don't want them to go through any form of pain. A man goes out on a daily basis to work and exchanges his time and services for money. Because he understands the simple principles and techniques that money is the currency of this world. To live, have shelter, educate, feeds the family, to enjoy a better life and relationship, you know and understand this simple principle. Now, when it boils down to your exams, do you understand the principle and techniques underlying each course? Most students fail because they don't understand the methods or rules of the subject matter, but assumptions. That is why an Examiner could easily twist and turn you because you don't understand a particular topic from a holistic point of view; instead, you understand it in fragments. Understanding a topic in fragments is not enough to pass ICAN Exams. The question now is: "How do you understand any topic in full?" To be good at anything, you have to" 1. Do it repeatedly. 2. Do it with the mindset that you want to understand everything about the topic. Unfortunately, where is the time to study textbooks of over 800 pages in this busy schedule and new normal with increasing job demands? Where is the time to study and understand a material of over 900 pages, pathfinders not yet added? You just have to be sincere with yourself that the world is moving on and evolving. As a result, you need material like your Simplified and Comprehensive Lecture Videos to match your current reality, not an illusion or reality of 10years ago where you go and sit down for 14 hours in four corners of a room. What you did not even do while you were at higher institutions. So, want to study, understand a topic completely, go through it repetitively and pass at a sitting? Even if it is one paper you can write. Timothy Here Again, As I was driving to the office on Saturday, I saw huge traffic. The traffic was very discouraging and completely an uncalculated one. Like I always say that you don't have control over the seasons or weather likewise, I don't have control over the traffic. So, I had to connect my phone to my car's Bluetooth so that I won't waste my time complaining or grumbling over something I don't have control over and focus on what I can control. During the process of listening, I got an insight into why students fail in their exams. Failure in the exams could be as a result of little things or neglects. Such as: 1. Failure to study daily, 2. Failure to go through a topic until you understand it thoroughly, 3. Procrastinate at practicing past questions and answers, 4. Failure to do whatever it takes to pass your exams. 5. Failure to plan your busy schedule and get the solution that you need to pass your exams like your Simplified and Comprehensive Lecture Videos. So, if you want to perform excellently well in this November Diet ICAN Exams, get started by overcoming those little failures which always accumulate and result in exam failure. Timothy Here Again, As the exams get closer every day, there are students who will use the fire brigade method to study hard, 8 hours a day, but still won't qualify or move to the next stage. I know that feeling. As a professional student back then, that’s exactly what I did on one of the diets. It was an all-day and all-night torture session, often for months at a time. So I completely understand your frustration because as you said, it doesn’t necessarily mean you guarantee your exam success. Why? Because when you study that way, your brain resists, and at some point, it will shut down. You’ll feel sleepy, find it difficult to maintain focus, and in a matter of hours you will become frustrated with yourself and the negative self-talk will kick in. What’s the matter with me? How come other students can study long hours but I can’t? Am I a failure? The answer is simple — no. There is nothing wrong with you. No, you are not a failure if you can’t keep going for hours at your desk. No, this is NOT how you should be studying. It’s not about the number of hours that will determine your success. In fact, forget about quantity — all you are doing is isolating yourself in a room for 8 hours every single day. What you should do is build a studying strategy focused on simplifying, prioritizing, timing, note-taking, and stepping away in a mindful way. Want to pass your ICAN exams this November? Timothy Here Again, With less than 40days to the exams, especially if you are yet to get started with your studies, one of the questions I get asked by students is How do I study continuously effectively for 12 to 14 hours? In a nutshell: You’ll have to stick to a study plan, take frequent breaks, and simplify each study session. If I were you, I would not focus on the number of hours. It won’t guarantee your exam success because just sitting at your desk doesn’t mean you’re learning or memorizing every single minute. The only thing that is more likely to happen is that you’ll end up feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and unmotivated to keep it up. So, a reliable study plan can include: #1. Simplifying what you need to do in a single day: The best way to get your mind focused on what’s important to successfully pass your exams is to start the day with a question, “What is the ONE thing I am committed to completing today?” #2. Taking notes of what’s relevant: Don’t just sit and read the textbook. Taking notes as you read improves your brain's cognitive skills, makes retention of information easier and boosts memory. A quick and efficient way to do this is the Cornell Method: writing a list of main points during a lecture, reviewing key concepts, and summarizing in just a few sentences. #3. Doing the most challenging cognitive task first: Doing complex cognitive tasks first means taking advantage of your peak period — your biological clock that dictates which activities you’re more likely to do best at certain times of the day. You may want to rethink when you sit down to study if you leave most of the work for nighttime. For most people, your brain’s peak performance is around 2-4 hours after you wake up #4. Using a timer to study for short periods: For most efficient studying, there’s no need to be sitting at your desk for hours. Use a timer to better manage your study session. To review study material, set the timer to 50-minute increments then take a 10-minute break to maximize concentration. #5. Eliminating distractions that waste your time: There are ways to put distractions out of your sight and out of mind. Check email and social media apps only 2–3 times a day. Set expectations with friends and family members by letting them know you won’t be available during study sessions; you can catch up during lunch or in the afternoon. Timothy Here Again, "If you fail to prepare, then you are prepared to fail" - Mark Spitz This quote makes far more sense now than ever. It applies to all human endeavours, especially if you aspire to be at the top. Aspiring to always win; aspiring to always be a conqueror. Aspiring to always achieve success in any of your endeavours. So, when it boils down to your ICAN Exams, without proper planning, how will you study? Without planning the method of study that best suits your schedule, without planning or drawing a practical plan for achieving your Chief Definite Aim (CDA), which is to qualify, to either solidify or build your career on solid rock, then you should be ready to face the consequences. As your November 2021 Diet gets closer every day, what plans have you adopted? Are you just sitting on the fence, hoping things will be alright? Are you just concentrating on a few topics hoping the Examiner will make the odds to favour you (gambling)? Are you planning on taking 2 weeks off (leave) to concentrate on your study? Nothing you can do within that period other than to cram into the Exam, which you will end up mixing solution up, excluding other complications like health risks and others. Knowing what you now know, there is still time for you to practically plan your studies and how you will pass your exams, even if it is for you to write one paper ONLY. Because qualifying is what your world is interested in, whether you get there like a flash of the justice league or like a tortoise. Want to plan and pass your November 2021 Diet Exams? I understand, but don't curse the soil and seeds you have because these are all you have. In addition, don't focus your energy on it because it will only lead to frustration, anger, anxiety. Timothy Here Again, A couple of months ago, I watched a particular movie called Ragnarok. Ragnarok is a Norwegian fantasy drama streaming television series reimagining Norse mythology. In the movie series, there was this guy with a superpower of never giving up. In a boxing arena, his opponent beat the hell out of him. But no matter how many times he was beaten, he will still get up on his feet like he is just getting started. His opponent continued until he got exhausted and tired to continue because the guy keeps on standing no matter what. Similarly, when it boils down to passing your ICAN Exams, you must put on a thick skin. You must be like the guy above who never gives up whether you are just writing the exams or you have written it before. You must keep pushing irrespective of the number of times you fall in the arena. The bottom line is that you are not giving up. Stop giving excuses. It is not over until you have qualified. Timothy Here Again, With your ICAN Exams getting closer everyday, you seem not to focus on your studies. Especially when you have a lot in the syllabus to cover. In fact, it could be very overwhelming. Frankly, focusing on your studies is one of the most important things that you need to work on if you are starting to study for an exam. But the first thing you need to do is calm down and relax yourself so that you can focus on how to get started and figure out the best method of study to adopt. However, when it get to focus, here are some tips to help you focusing on your exams: 1. Create a study space that is going to help you focus, keeping distractions such as play stations and other disturbing elements, away. 2. Correctly identify the distractions in your life, like your phone, story books, video games and things like that. 3. Then when you start working/studying, keep your phone / digital devices away from you or keep the notifications turned off. 4. When you will not receive any calls, nor check any message, nor let anyone enter your space (maybe not applicable for all). Want to pass your ICAN November Diet Exams? Timothy Here Again, Why do some students study less and get high marks while others study super hard with longer time and get average grades? Because studying hard, longer time and then automatically getting good grades is a myth. Actually, there are 3 myths about studying that are not grounded in reality at all. Myth #1. I need to stay up all night long, every night before my exams. In other words, I don’t need to sleep. Just study, study, study. Be a machine. The problem with this mindset is that it lacks understanding how valuable sleep is for the brain. Sleep can help us learn, consolidate new memories, improve memory and recall, and give our brain time to get rid of unnecessary waste. Conversely, sleep deprivation can reduce your cognitive abilities, negatively impact concentration, and slow down the learning process. Myth #2. I must sit at my desk and study all day, with no exception. This is very common among students who started exam preparation late. When it’s exam time, there’s nothing else to do except go through the books and videos, one by one. Treat my bedroom as a prison cell. Only get up to go to the bathroom and to have lunch and dinner. Worry a lot. Feel anxious and stressed. The problem with this mindset is that we expect so much from our brain. It must function perfectly, it must focus all the time. Or else, everything is over. Failure is imminent. Exams will have to be retaken. Myth #3. I have to keep re-reading my textbook because that’s the only way I’ll learn. I don’t know about you, but when I was writing my own exams, they were boring and reading them seemed endless. Instead of just skimming through the book many times, it’s a better idea to take notes to summarize what you’re reading. Personally I consider note taking to be one of the most powerful learning tools I’ve developed over the years. It boosts my critical-thinking skills, helps me recall information faster, makes studying more productive, and allows the brain to focus on the most important sections of the study material. Timothy Here Again, How was your weekend? I am very sure that you used it to study very well, because your ICAN Exam is getting closer and you have a month to go. Now over the weekend, there were several questions regarding some changes in the exam "terms and conditions," or let me say policy. In the past, especially due to COVID-19 pandemic, ICAN usually allowed students to register for the exams or pay for exemption, irrespective of their subscription status. However, the recent event that is unfolding revealed that such privilege has been removed. That is... If you are owing any amount of subscription, you will not be allowed to complete your registration process, even after making payment either online or through the bank. With this information at your disposal, you must start planning by checking your status to know the exact amount that you are owing. So you can also plan towards it when you are about to pay for your exam fee. One more thing, don't fall into the loop of using this as an excuse to postpone the exams again. Face it; confront it; no retreat no surrender; after all, you allowed it to accumulate to this extent. Want to pass your ICAN November Diet Exams? Timothy Here Again, As a professional student, you probably feel like you are not studying enough. I know … You have your job to do, plus other activities and commitments. And I’m sure you want to have a social life and time out with your family and friends too. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could study smarter (not harder), pass your ICAN Exams and lead a balanced life? Yes of course it would. That’s why I wrote this post. So, I spent hours scouring scientific articles and research journals to find the best ways to learn more effectively. I was once a professional student, and I have since completed my professional exams. I used these core tips during my exams days, so I can verify that they work. Hence, let’s get started... 1. Learn the same information in a variety of ways. The research (Willis, J. 2008) shows that different media stimulate different parts of the brain. The more areas of the brain that are activated, the more likely it is that you’ll understand and retain the information. 2. Review the information periodically, instead of cramming. Periodic review is essential if you want to move information from your short-term memory to your long-term memory. This will help you get better exam grades. As the research shows, periodic review beats cramming hands-down. 3. Don’t multitask. The data is conclusive: Multitasking makes you less productive, more distracted, and dumber. The studies even show that people who claim to be good at multitasking aren’t actually better at it than the average person. Effective students focus on just one thing at a time. So don’t try to study while also intermittently replying to text messages, watching TV, and checking your Twitter feed. Here are some other suggestions to improve your concentration: -Turn off notifications on your phone -Put your phone away, or turn it to airplane mode -Log out of all instant messaging programs -Turn off the Internet access on your computer -Close all of your Internet browser windows that aren’t related to the assignment you’re working on. Timothy Here Again, As the ICAN November Diet Exam gets closer, there is a possibility that you have not started a serious study. This could be because of different activities pulling your attention ranging from career to financial and interrelationships commitments. So, after spending so much time on these activities, there will be no time for you to study. And as a result, you will just be forcing yourself to study. Frankly, if you need to force yourself to study, then don't do it because it is going to be counter-productive. Also, how long will you force yourself to study? For 2–4 hours? Where nothing will actually enter your brain? You don't need to force yourself to use a phone, you don't need to force yourself to play games or watch Zeeworld. Or do you need to force yourself to waste time? Most probably no, right? Why? Because you like doing it. You are somewhere subconsciously attached to it. So, when it boils down to your study, why do you need to be motivated or force yourself to read and Pass? Knowing it will open more doors of opportunities for you. Most importantly, you have that reason to study. Do you know what the reason is? SIMPLY YOUR DREAMS. Hence, Don't give up on your dreams. Get started with your studies and write at least one paper in the ICAN November Diet Exams. Whether you are just starting or you have written the exams before. Timothy Here Again, Welcome to a fresh, new week. As ICAN Exams get closer, there are some students who will rethink their confidence about the exams. As a result they tend to push it to the following diet. Well, I am not against it, but the question is when will this endless circle end? When will you break the jinx? Whenever you decide to write the exams, something from somewhere will make you give excuses. ... Gbam!!! And you end up postponing things that are important. So, if you are among them, you will be asking me in your mind right now What advice will I give to those who procrastinate and waste time a lot? How can they start doing what is important for them? I would like to suggest that you read, understand and implement the following. 1. Turn off your phone: The apps in your phone are literally designed to keep you there as long as possible. You will be surprised what will happen to your mind when you stop consuming information that is irrelevant to your goal and start thinking about how to pass your exams once in a sitting and qualify. 2. Make a smaller goal first: having a massive goal can be overwhelming especially under this new normal whereby there is not much time to study because several events are demanding for your attention. 3. Don't let perfection get in the way of your progress: the most important thing is for you to start, it is better you try and fail than to wonder what if... 4. Deadline: The brain loves deadlines. Set a date and time you want to qualify. Then get started working towards achieving that goal. So, stop procrastinating and write one course or 2 courses using the Simplified and comprehensive Lecture Videos and Q&A. Timothy Here Again, As a student who has been writing ICAN for a while now, Why do you procrastinate? Although procrastination is sometimes regarded as laziness, it is quite different from it. Remember that procrastination is something that everyone is guilty of. Even Elon Musk is procrastinating on something. Successful people tend to procrastinate on the less important things while losers procrastinate on the most important things. Here are some reasons why you might be procrastinating: 1. Fear: The first reason is your fear. You are actually afraid of the exams especially when you see your friend who registered for the exams, attended classes, and still failed woefully. As a result, you tend to withdraw, whereas most persons who failed the exams will never tell you what they did wrong. 2. Overwhelmed: Sometimes you tend to procrastinate because you are overwhelmed by the amount of work, family, and societal pressure. I can't really blame you for this. However, you will be the one to bear the consequences. 3. Too easy: Naturally, we are lazy, anything that will cause us pain, we tend to avoid it and as a result anytime you experience failure you just go back into your comfort zone. Knowing what you know now, do you still want to push your ICAN Exam success to 2022? The choice is yours but bear it in mind that whatever makes you procrastinate this diet, you will still find the excuse to procrastinate in subsequent diets too. Timothy Here Again, If you are a student with a busy schedule and as a result, you are finding it difficult to pass your ICAN Exams, whereas there are several students that have a very tight schedule too and they wrote the exams under such conditions and got qualified. What did they do differently? There are lots of earnest answers here. But I think a lot of them are based more on personal or interpersonal experience than on real principles. So while they are certainly ways that some busy students study, they end up missing the point of what is an excellent way to study to become a top-gun student. The trick to studying has nothing to do with doing work early. Or changing your day-night schedule, or even getting help from others. Because it has to deal with something inside of you. My friend, it's about: 1. Focus on Studying when you feel most alive and concentrated. While it’s tempting to try to follow academic literature about waking up early and going to bed on time, trying to be awake at a time that you really just want to go to sleep, and forcing yourself to go to bed when you’re not tired, is just a way of adding more stress and mental load to your life. Study when you can study, regardless of when your friends study, or when I study. 2. Focus on methods that help you learn. For some people, it has to do with listening to the material. For some reading it. And for others, writing it. It doesn’t matter at all how you take the material in, as long as you’re engaged with it. To make sure you’re not wasting your time staring glazed at a slide presentation with a bunch of words you don’t really understand, test yourself often with Qs&As. 3. Focus on understanding concepts, rather than memorizing them. Look at the levels of learning, and focus on the upper levels - understanding, applying, analyzing, and evaluating. Testing yourself with the above questions is part of the way towards doing this, but make sure for important things you really put some extra thoughts into it. 4. Focus on what is really bothering you rather than what is most pressing. Before you are a student, you are first, a human being - and neglecting the latter will only hurt the former. Because it is much harder to commit to really high-quality mental activity when you are nervous about something. 5. Focus on achieving excellence, rather than perfection. You live in a world where everyone has varying knowledge and varying abilities. So, instead of being a perfect ICAN student, use materials that would help you achieve excellence and move to the next level of life. Want to pass your ICAN Exams this November? Timothy Here Again, It is wise to know what comes first and what to do first. To begin anything in the middle or at the end is to make a muddle of it. An athlete who began by breaking the tape would not receive the prize. He must begin by facing the starter and toeing the mark. Even then, a good start is important if he is to win. Similarly, in your ICAN Qualification journey, you cannot move to the next stage or qualify without studying, writing, and passing your ICAN Exams. Since this is a known fact that is obvious to you. -Why do you want to start studying late -Why are you procrastinating with your studies? -Why do you want to wait until the last minute, which is very stressful. -Why are you giving excuses? -Why are you not using an alternative method of Study. Timothy Here Again, It is a common phenomenon among humans to claim that a particular person is luckier than the other person. That is, if one person achieves success we just tag it as luck. Before we go further, what is really luck? Luck is the phenomenon and belief that defines the experience of notably positive, negative, or improbable events... Supernatural interpretations of luck consider it to be an attribute of a person or object or the result of a favourable or unfavourable view of a deity upon a person. From the above definition, luck is not something that anyone has control over. So why do some students get lucky at their exams? It is merely, opportunity meets preparation. That is, what you don't have control over meets what you can control. So, the question is what do you have control over? You have control to: 1. Timothy Here Again, Welcome to a new, fresh, and blessed week. It is a common question by students, especially those who are very busy and preoccupied with tight schedules. What is the best study time for the human brain? Frankly, there is no single perfect time for studying. It depends from person to person. But of course, there are proven scientific studies that help in this regard. Your brain remains completely fresh during the morning, that is the best time to absorb information. Also, remember that our brain consolidates information from short-time memory to long-term memory while sleeping. Learning information just before sleep might also be helpful for retention. Reasons you should study in the morning: 1. The brain is charged with fresh energy and enthusiasm for a new day. It is not bombarded with information from social media and other sources. 2. It is calm and quiet in the morning. 3. Few people are online so there is also not much activity going on for scrolling. 4. A serene environment is just what you need for studying well and being focused. 5. Studying in the morning also gives you a lot of time to do other things for the rest of the day. 6. Waking up and studying early in the morning is going to make you feel better for yourself. Hope this helps. I think studying in the morning or at dawn is best for all, you should try it too. Timothy Here Again, Sleeping at night or during the day has a lot of health benefits to the body. It helps boost our immune systems, reduce stress, and improve our mood. It helps us to think more clearly and do better in school and at work. There is time to sleep, work, and study. So, you just must ensure that you do the right thing at the right time. In reality, it doesn't work that way. With different pressures from different angles ranging from job to family. yet, we still have to sleep. When it boils down to passing your exams, the big question is? Why do you keep falling asleep when studying? In spite of all your effort to study, you will always fall asleep. This is not always talked about. I have noticed lots of students struggling with this. Frankly, your brain is probably telling you something. It’s more like this —you need more sleep. The published amount of sleep we need depending on our age is about 7–9 hours. But, if you find yourself up most of the night studying, that may be the reason for feeling tired and slipping into dreamland as often as you do. In addition to getting sufficient sleep, there are other small changes you can make that can help you stay focused and alert. For example, you can: 1. Study new material early in the day: Doing complex cognitive tasks early in the day allows your brain to focus fully on the problem at hand, with fewer distractions and more energy at your disposal. 2. Take a nap: According to research, a short nap mid-afternoon can improve memory, work performance, alertness, and overall mood. It can also help you remember things you learned earlier in the day as much as a full night’s sleep! Just remember to keep it under 30 minutes so you don’t feel groggy afterward and mess up your sleep schedule. One 20-minute nap can make you feel well-rested and energized more than a cup of coffee. Timothy Here Again, Frankly, it is really understandable that after an attempt to write the ICAN Exams, you meet with some defeat and as a result, you decide to go into your cocoon and wish everything is going to be alright. Within a blink of an eye, you start building up fear, doubt which comes in the form of busyness, no time, and procrastination. Whereas, the real reason is that you are afraid to write the exams again. I understand that this could be frustrating. The first step in doing anything is usually the hardest one. But, it’s doable — it’s a matter of figuring out how to approach the problem. In this case, your first step is to change the way you think about this problem. Here’s what I mean by that. 1. Adjust your MINDSET: When we say, “I can’t” or “I don’t want to” or “I don’t feel like it” you are giving priority to your emotions, therefore you will have an emotional response to the problem. Where is this emotion coming from? Is it just your current mood or is this a typical reaction to this particular task or others similar to it? Is it a reaction that has become habitual every time you see your textbook? If the answer is yes, maybe it’s your fixed mindset talking. 2. Don’t think of studying as an OBLIGATION: If you want to get rid of this problem, it’s important to identify where the sense of obligation comes from. It can be external or internal. 3. Promise yourself you’ll reach ONE STUDY GOAL a day: If you experience resistance towards your studies every single day, the best way to get your mind on board to begin studying is to ask yourself this question each morning: “What is the one thing I am committed to completing today?” 4. Do the most challenging cognitive tasks FIRST. Doing complex cognitive tasks early means taking advantage of your circadian rhythm — your biological clock that dictates which activities you’re more likely to do best at certain times of the day. 5. To boost memory, STEP AWAY: Getting up from your desk and doing something different is a concept in psychology called the . When we physically remove ourselves from our work, we remember uncompleted (interrupted) tasks better than the ones we already finished. Knowing what you now know...I believe you can still get started with one course for this diet because if you procrastinate it again then you are actually exhibiting fear. Timothy Here Again, Some students have placed limitations on themselves that they don't have what it takes to pass their ICAN Exams. As a result, they kept postponing their exams diet in, diet out. Or why are you scared to write your ICAN Exams when you already have the greatest computer, storage, and processing mechanism in the universe? YOUR BRAIN Frankly, you might have only a few gigabytes of storage space, similar to space in an android or iPhone or a USB flash drive. Yet, neurons combine so that each one helps with many memories at a time. Exponentially increasing the brain's memory storage capacity to something closer to around 2.5 petabytes (or millions of gigabytes). But to me storage capacity is limitless and scientists also said that we have only been able to use 10% of our brain capacity. The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. Your brain determines how you experience the world around you. Now in spite of all the massive attributes of the brain, why are students still thrown off balance in the exam hall? Why is it that some students don't remember what they have read? Why is it that when it gets to courses of either theoretical or calculations, students still have issues tackling the questions? From my experience and research, 3 things are responsible. 1. Self-limiting beliefs about the courses: Some students have conditioned themselves to prepare for some topics. So, if the examiner sets something different from their expectation, then they are thrown off balance. Whereas the brain has the capacity to capture everything in the topic. 2. Unstructured method: studying inconsistently is a perfect sign of non-readiness and as a result, your mind will not take you seriously for anything you do. 3. Last-minute Study: This is a method of study that has made several students abandon the exams because what they go through while studying is just too uncomfortable for their body system and at the end of the day, they still do not pass. As a result, it is easy to postpone the exam. As Socrates says, _an unexamined life is not worth living_. Look inwards and examine your world view, your approach to the exams, then make the necessary adjustments needed. I would have love to recommend you a method but each function based on the peculiarity of the individual The ICAN November Diet Exam is approaching, so if you are yet to get your Simplified and Comprehensive Lecture Videos ➕ Q&A and write at least one course because there is still time. Timothy Here Again, Our support class continues today with Taxation 8:00pm to 10:00pm and SFM 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The question is, with limited time and a busy schedule, how do you get the best out of life. How can you study faster, effectively, and efficiently? There are several methods but these 4 strategies will work for you and get things done irrespective of your time of studying. 1. Eliminate Distractions: Get rid of distractions like noise and social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok, LinkedIn, use your phone wisely and only go to WhatsApp / Telegram at specific times such as during revision periods, 2. Take Breaks. It’s important to take breaks while you are studying to keep your mind fresh and alive. I recommend doing 25 minutes of study, followed by 5–10 minutes of rest. 3. Push Yourself out of your comfort zone by Challenging yourself. See how much studying you can get done in a certain amount of time, and then, beat your record! 4. If you’re feeling a lot of resistance probably due to a hectic day, just study for 30 minutes. Due to stress, your brain doesn’t like the idea of studying for 2 hours at a stretch, so you have to do some self-persuasion by convincing yourself that you will only study for 30 minutes. Timothy Here Again, As we go into this weekend, I want you to prepare your mind and be positive about your ICAN Exams. This is because, in my years of experience, I observed that at the beginning of the diet, a lot of students will be very zealous to write the exam, but as time goes on, the zealousness will gradually turns to fear. It is as if they have already been defeated through their thoughts which were shaped by their environment and vast information they consciously and subconsciously process. That is, you have been defeated because of different environmental negativities which was as a result of any of the following: 1. You have written the exams more than once. 2. Friends, colleagues have written and did not pass the exams. 3. Friends or family member have abandoned the exams 4. Mother and daughter are still writing the same exams 5. Several colleagues have abandoned the exams. 6. Your inner doubt, fears and indifference about the ICAN exam body. 7. The belief that ICAN is difficult to pass 8. Your belief that there is a force preventing you from passing the exams 9. Your subconscious believes that ICAN is standing in your way...etc.etc. So, I must tell you, my friend and colleague, that until you change your beliefs about the exams, passing it might be very difficult. This is because it is as if you are already defeated yourself because your thought is not only things, but also thought creates things. Anything that was ever made by man was first conceived in the mind whether it is of good or evil. Please note that I am not saying that you won't read, but bear in mind that, since it is your "internal" world that controls your "external" world, then your beliefs, negative thoughts, fears and anxiety about the exams must be put in check or else, you would have been defeated, even before you write the exams. Timothy Here Again, Frankly, turning reading into a habit would have been great because it means that you will be studying on a consistent basis. However, it is a herculean task But to create the habit and make it stick, you first need to think about the benefits—what will reading bring you? How will it help you in your quest to become an ACA? After you qualify, what direct benefit will you be getting? How will it affect your career positively especially if you are in a competitive environment? If you give yourself a few minutes to think about these questions, you’ll start feeding your curiosity about how reading and making it a habit can improve your life. And that’s an excellent place to start. The next question on your mind is _How can you create and nurture a reading habit?_ You can do that by: #1. Create a pleasant ritual you’ll look forward to: If reading is something you know will be an enjoyable experience, you will start looking forward to it. That’s a really great way to make any habit stick! Setting aside 1hour daily and getting all your senses on board is a great way to create a pleasant ritual. #2. Shut out the noise and everything that distracts you: If you truly want to focus on what’s in front of you, there are a few things you can do to make the process easier. One of them is to get away from environmental distractions and Set your phone to Airplane mode. #3. Keep a log of what you read: If you want to keep track of what you read, take notes. This will give your reading experience more structure, boost your focus and concentration, improve your cognitive skills, strengthen memory, and engage your critical thinking skills. This can be achieved by Dedicating a notebook to your reading and Focus on key concepts and their relatedness to other topics. Knowing what you know now, do you still want to sit on the fence or you still want to get started with your studies despite the fact that you still have the time to write 1 or 2 papers? The choice is Yours to make after all time waits for no man... And... Whatever excuse you give now for not writing and making it a habit to write in a diet, you still keep on pushing it until Time and chance get caught up with you. Timothy Here Again, Welcome to the new month of September. This year is almost coming to an end. If you are writing the ICAN November Diet and you have not yet started studying or, you are asking yourself this question, _"in the midst of all this distraction, how can I stop procrastinating and concentrate on my study?"_ Frankly everyone procrastinates. I know procrastination is bad. You know procrastination is bad. Everybody knows procrastination is bad, yet, everybody does it. 'Tomorrow never comes' and you keep pulling yourself farther and farther from your goals every time you decide to do things some other time. Furthermore, I know, as soon as you reach your respective homes today, tendencies are that you will forget 80% of what I just said. And will end up procrastinating the more. Everyone procrastinates. The one who does it less, ultimately wins. Everytime, you feel this irresistible urge to watch one more YouTube video, Tiktok, snapchat or listen to one or more song, stop and ask yourself this simple question: “Who will I be helping by watching this video? This influencer, who already has 5 million subscribers on her channel or me? I'll be contributing to her channel growth. But who will contribute to my growth? What will contribute to my growth?” Why give away the most crucial years of your life to complete strangers and contribute to their success stories, when you can live your own? I know it's not practical to follow this all the time but, you can surely choose to be more frugal with giving away your time to random frivolities that won't even matter 5 years time. Hence, get started, get serious with your studies and stop procrastinating about your exam success. Want to pass your ICAN Exams in November? Stop procrastinating and get started with your studies. Timothy Here Again, Over the weekend, I tuned the DStv channel to Supersport Bliss and it was there I saw something very inspiring. It was a paralympian who plays table tennis. His name is Ibrahim Hamadtou. Ibrahim Hamadtou was just 10-years-old when he lost both his arms in a train accident while travelling to work as a carpenter in the Egyptian city of Damietta. Despite his disability, Hamadtou is now a two-time Paralympian in table tennis. The 48-year-old holds the bat between his teeth. He serves by gripping the ball with his toes and throwing it into the air. Hamadtou did not play sports before the accident. He tried soccer but his lack of balance led to him getting injured frequently. "When I visited the youth centre, table tennis caught my eye," he explained in an interview with the Olympic Channel. "The first thing I tried was to hold the paddle under my armpits but I failed. I tried this twice, on the third time, I placed the paddle in my mouth, and I held the paddle between my teeth for a few moments. And then I thought, 'Why don't I try playing with my mouth?' "The next day, I was at the youth centre at 7am. And that's where it all began." Hamadtou started playing table tennis in 1986 but it was not until 2014 that he came to global attention when he got an invitation to play an exhibition match against some of the world's best players. So, if someone who does not have 2 arms can go against all odds and participate in a world event, then what is your own excuse for not writing and passing your ICAN EXAMS? Why are you procrastinating? Why are you giving up? Why are you pushing it to 'the next diet' at all times? Whatever the reason, you need to leave it behind you and forge ahead. You can still write one paper at least because you must not let a diet go without writing the exams whether you are in the same level or you have moved to the next one. Timothy Here Again, Welcome to a new, fresh week, the last Monday in the month of August, 2021. As every day goes by, your ICAN Exam is getting closer and closer. I am so sure that you are doing everything in your power to ensure that you study and pass your exams. Unfortunately, some students are still finding it difficult to get started because of some habits start their day with. These habits include: #1. Spending the first hours of the morning texting friends and checking social media: For some students, this is not a habit they indulge in, on certain days of the week; it’s something they do all week long. From asking the question, Good mornin. How are you doing today? Did you watch BBNaija Eviction show last night? The invitation to ponder and continue the conversation seems enticing. So enticing that an entire hour can go into the messaging back and forth, especially when it’s combined with sending links to Instagram or Twitter posts you want to share with each other. I am not saying that sharing funny cat videos or what’s in the latest news is a bad thing. It’s just that those first hours of the day are better suited to something more important, such as studying or checking what you have studied last night. #2. Organizing your workday around your inbox: This habit is even more challenging because, for most of us who work on computers for a living (or in industry-speak, the knowledge workers), most tasks are delegated and monitored via our inbox. It’s no surprise that the first activity of the workday for most people is to check what’s in it, so we know how to organize the day. The biggest problem with this habit? You put yourself in reactive mode because you respond to requests other people make, instead of prioritizing. #3. Procrastinating about the big things: That sounds counter-intuitive, doesn’t it? Because if there’s anything we should be devoting our energy to, it’s the big things that matter to us. How to reach a big goal, how to overcome a personal challenge, how to improve our personal relationships with people closest to us. But what ends up happening is you are so busy with your daily life is that you push all the big stuff aside and leave it for later, with the excuse of, I can’t think about this right now! It’s too complicated and stressful! It is not the most ideal way to live a high-quality life. So, if you are cultivating such a habit, it will be quite difficult for you to concentrate and study for your ICAN Exams. As you know that in some circumstances, life is predictable. So you will end up postponing the exams or adopt a fire brigade method of study which is not really a good method of preparing for the exams. Still, writing your ICAN Exams? Write and Pass your exams this ICAN November Diet using your Simplified and Comprehensive Lecture Videos plus Q&A after all, you still have the opportunity to sit for one or two papers.
