Hmm. If you forego cash and choose equity, that will be taking a huge gamble because there is a very high probability that the startup may fail. Asides that, assuming it’s a full time job, how do you pay your bills and live your life? Ideally, there must be some cash compensation. How much cash will then depend on how much equity they’re willing to give up. |
Nigerian Telecommunications giant, MTN has announced the appointment of Thrive Agric’s interim Chief Executive Officer, Adia Sowho as its first female Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). The announcement was made as the company celebrates 20 years in operation in Nigeria. https://technext.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/TWOL_WEBOpt_Adia-Sowho-by-Rebecca-Nwose.jpg Making the announcement, Karl Toriola, CEO, MTN Nigeria said that the appointment follows the decision to ” localise its management team” with the appoitment of two Nigerians to two key senior positions previously held by expatriates. Before her appointment, Adia was named the interim CEO of Thrive Agric, an agriculture investment platform after the company faced renewed allegations of defaulting on payment of matured investments. She replaced co-founder, Uka Eje, who stepped down and became the Chief Operations Officer (COO), an arrangement the company claimed was designed to allow him to understudy the incoming Adia. 7 months after her appointment, the startup announced that it has paid all the returns it owed to crowd funders on its platform. This was a significant rebound from its beleaguered position just a year before. Prior to the appointment at Thrive Agric, Adia Sowho was the VP for Growth at Migo (formerly Mines.io) in San Francisco, CA. She joined the team to act as the Managing Director for Migo’s Nigerian Office. She has also worked at Etisalat Nigeria for more than 7 years where she held positions like Head, Strategy and Business Development, Head of Digital Media and Director, Digital Business. Before then, she served as a consultant at Deloitte Consulting for about 2 years and Radio Frequency Engineer at US Cellular for about 7 years. Adia holds a Bachelor degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering with a major in Communications from the University of Sheffield, the United Kingdom and a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management with majors in Strategy, Analytical Consulting, Strategic Marketing and Entrepreneurship. In the same vein, MTN Nigeria also announced the appointment of Shoyinka Shodunke as the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Shoyinka has about 20 years of consummate experience in similar roles. https://technext.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Shoyinka-Shodunke-MTN.jpeg He joined MTN Nigeria in 2001. He was the recipient of the CIO’s award for excellence for the design and implementation of the postpaid credit and payment management process that was adjudged best in class in Nigeria. He was appointed the CIO of MTN Zambia in 2008. He moved on to MTN Uganda in 2011 where he served as General Manager. He returned to MTN Nigeria in 2012 as the General Manager IT Service Delivery and went on to become Acting CIO. He was moved to MTN Cameroun in 2016 as the first Chief Information Officer and then Chief Information Technology Officer. Shoyinka Shodunke holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics Statistic/Operations Research from the Federal University of Technology Yola, Nigeria, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Northampton, United Kingdom. https://technext.ng/2021/08/02/mtn-appoints-thrive-agrics-ceo-adia-sowho-as-its-first-female-cmo/ Cc Dominique Lalasticlala Mynd44 Seun |
Self-styled, “Bank of the Free,” Nigerian fintech startup, Kuda Bank has raised $55 million in Series B funding as it looks to expand into other African countries. It also plans to launch new product offerings for its Nigerian market. The funding was made at a $500 million evaluation and comes after raising a $25 million Series A in March 2021 and a $10 million seed round in November 2020. With a $1.6 million pre-seed raise in September 2019 and a $15,000 pre-seed in 2018, its total raise comes to $91.6 million. https://geeky.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Kuda-Bank.jpg The round was co-led by previous investors, Valar Ventures and Target Global. Other investors that participated include Japan-based Strategic Business Investor (SBI) Investment and past angel investors. Incorporated in 2018 as Kudimoney, the company changed its name to Kuda just before its $1.6 million raise in 2019. The company is the brainchild of co-founders Babs Ogundeyi and Musty Mustapha, CTO, and was founded as a lending platform before transitioning into a digital bank. Kuda now has 1.4 million registered users — more than double the number it had in March when it had 650,000 registered users. Per TechCrunch, this Series B round was relatively fast as the company was not actively looking to raise money. “We felt that Babs and Musty are ambitious on another level. For them, it was always about building a pan-African bank, not just a Nigerian leader,” said Ricardo Schäfer, Partner at Target Global. According to Ogundeyi, Kuda’s initial business model was built around providing banking services to people who still held accounts with incumbent banks. But this is gradually shifting as more people are paying in and out of their accounts. Although he does not state the countries where Kuda would launch, he hints that its latest product, the Kuda Bank Overdraft is a sign of things to come. “It’s a unique product, an overdraft that we pre-qualify the most active users for,” he said. In Q2, it qualified over 200,000 users and pushed out $20 million worth of credit. With a 30-day repayment, he said, so far, default has been “minimal” because of the company’s approach. “We use all the data we have for a customer and allocate the overdraft proportion based on the customer’s activities, aiming for it not to be a burden to repay,” he added. Andrew McCormack, a general partner at Valar Ventures, says, “Kuda is our first investment in Africa, and our initial confidence in the team has been upheld by its rapid growth in the past four months. “With a youthful population eager to adopt digital financial services in the region, we believe that Kuda’s transformative effect on banking will scale across Africa and we’re proud to continue supporting them,” he concludes. Okokobioko! Abba Kyari, egbekegbe supa cop. |
Topzee109:Whenever you decide to grow a brain. |
Give Kyari a taste of his own medicine then. When he collected agbada money to lock Vincent up, did he follow due process? The FBI are just stressing themselves. Amotekun and ipob commandos are on ground to extract Kyari and send him to the USA. |
. Whether those claims are false or not, the fact still remain that abba kyari is a murderous crook. He is a black snake in green grass. He is the devil’s incarnate. Here are links to some of his atrocities: https://twitter.com/panther_wakanda/status/1421583934723395584?s=21 https://twitter.com/bolanlecole/status/1421204343764758541?s=21 Those are but some of the numerous accusations that Nigerians have swept under the mat because we just naturally assumed they wanted to tarnish the image of a supa cop. #EndSARS #EndSARS #EndSARS |
143WaZoBia:What would you call the DSS then? |
Where is her hijab? Why is her dress see through? What sort of example are they setting for their hypocritical followers? |
velocity25:Leave them. Shebi biafra is their problem. When fulani finish with them, they will wake up. |
Okokobioko ! |
Bisiebae:How much were you trying to buy? Try and buy like 100$, I think that’s the bank limit. If it works, then you’ll know it’s per regulation. |
Bisiebae:Asin they don’t have sufficient dollars to sell to you abi? I have always wondered how they source funds for their flexdollar thing. |
Not sufficient dollars or not sufficient naira? |
STINOS:Yeah I get you. Like those old houses in my area where they just constructed the road. The road is almost on the same level as their decking and there’s no magic they can do to make a car enter those compounds again. |
Nice |
I don’t understand, are people’s replies being deleted or what? Who is responsible for that nonsense? |
thebosstrevor1:There is interest on saved dollars please. Union bank pays a whopping 3% p.a on dollars saved. Inflation inflation, is dollar not inflating too. Or you think the dollar is immune? Bros saving your money in dollars pegs it’s value against that of the dollars. It is called hard currency for a reason. So if the dollar value rises as against the naira, your money will also appreciate. But if you save money in naira and it continues getting devalued, you will spend more naira to buy goods and services that depend on dollar prices at any given time. Which then brings us back to this point. thebosstrevor1:Furthermore, let’s assume we’re talking about money in the bank not tied to any personal investment. You said thebosstrevor1:And I told you that with an inflation rate higher than an interest rate, saving money in naira is foolish cos your money is loosing value faster than it is making interest when saved in a bank. But in the US, the inflation rate is pegged at 2.4% and naira is losing value at a whopping rate of 17% +-, where would you rather save? There are a multitude of other factors that also influences inflation and currency devaluations. In the grand scheme of things, a weaker domestic currency should stimulate exports which in theory will make foreigners buy our currency thereby strengthening it but no! We’re importing and have been importing more than ever. In fact, your headline can be re-written as “It Makes No Sense To Save Your Dollars In Bitcoin” because, like you’re arguing, inflation will devalue dollars. lol or abi I am not even understanding what you’re typing sef… |

FatherCHRISTMAS:They have literal evidence that 8m or even more was wired. You cannot make a plea deal with bogus evidence. You’re exchanging hard, verified info for a deal. |
Educationalserv:Lol na you be cut supervisor na. Stay there and be mumu-ing yourself. |
Shut up. He collected 8m in total with different bank accounts. Go and read the chat transcripts. |
You want the gospel truth? You’ll get the meter eventually but they must make money off you first via estimated billing. |
Many people don’t know this, but insecurity has been ravaging Zamfara for almost a decade now. Most analysts wrongly claim its all because of Gold fields Though it’s a contributing element, it actually constitute a small portion of the multi-varied factors responsible for it. Farmers-Herdsmen clash is as old as Cain & Abel, but they have their dispute resolution techniques which have worked since beginning of the Human Race. However, Injustice, abuse of power by constituted authority, decay of Local institution, neglect of rural communities, & proliferation of arms into sub-Saharan Africa after the Fall of Gaddafi all contributed in aggravating the conflicts. The foremost major attack was in 2014 in Yar Galadima ward of Dansadau Emirate. Almost 200 people were brutally slaughtered. Abdulaziz Yari upon arrival at the scene of the carnage and seeing about 30-40 dead bodies made the statement “Iyakar su kenan” is this all of them?? https://dailynigerian.com/yar-galadima-inside-zamfara-town-where-bandits-killed-over-200-people/ || https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2014/4/6/dozens-killed-in-nigeria-land-dispute https://www.aljazeera.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/201261120170971734_20.jpeg Yari’s Govt. consciously and deliberately refused to stop the crisis before it spiraled out of control. State forces watched on as The notorious Bandit Buharin Daji acted with impunity. Upon hearing FG forces were given orders to tackle him, he opted for a plea deal with Yari, he granted him audience with promise that he would provide security to farmers and fight off other Bandits and in return he got Amnesty with a political appointment as SA on security matters, which he agreed to. Buharin Daji’s boys rustled cattle belonging to his Lieutenant - “Dogo Gide” In-laws. Dogo Gide demanded cattle be released to him which Buharin Daji refused. In their camp as Buharin Daji took off his amulets & talisman, Dogo Gide took him out and brought the body to the Govt house. The then Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala received the corpses & Dogo Gide was given the plea deal. This was around 16/17 Since then Dogo Gide never launches any attacks in Zamfara state. He moved his activities to Birnin Gwari, katsina, Niger Tagina axis and KD-Abj Way. This marked beginning of Kidnapping & banditry in the above named areas Any major attack along this axis till date, is highly likely to have been coordinated by Dogo Gide. Last year, in his farm in Dansadau, he harvested over 2000 bags of Produce. This year he threatened no farmer will farm, until they cultivated his first. https://dailytrust.com/zamfara-farmers-must-work-on-our-farms-before-theirs-bandits-leaders When Bello Matawalle came into power in 2019, he constituted a committee led by former IG of Police, MD Abubakar. The committee received over 50,000 submissions, testimonies & petitions from every stakeholder. Politicians, Emirs, district heads, police, military, DSS, farmers, herdsmen, traders, civil servants Religious leaders, NGOs & residents possible provides information to the committee. It was discovered Bandit have collected over 3 Billion in Ransom. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/nwest/357149-bandits-collect-n3-billion-ransom-in-zamfara-committee.html https://thisisradionow.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/FB_IMG_1603101914349.jpg Among the recommendations of the Committee, 5 Emirs are to be deposed and tried to court for their perceived involvement with the bandits. The Governor till date has refused to implement the report. https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/committee-indicts-5-zamfara-emirs-over-banditry/ve0f0lt.amp It was alleged that Native Shaman from Niger Republic informed Bello that if he dared remove any Emir, he would die. The authenticity of this claim is yet to be established. We in Zamfara state are so used to attacks. Bandits are known by their names and attacking style, few out of many are the likes of Dogo Gide, Mochoko, Kachalla Mosu, Kachalla Ibrahim, Black, Dodo, etc. A very Gallant and excellent officer, Captain MW NDEM AKA Mai Rago brought hell to the Bandits, after about 1 year. It was alleged that Bandits paid 20 million and Mai Rago has since been deployed to North East to take the fight to ISWAP/BH. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E29L_JEXEAAQzlC.jpg Credit must also be given to “Yan Sa Kai” local Vigilante. The also took the fight to the Bandits. However, after any peace accord, State Government bans the activities of Yan Sakai, leaving farmers at the mercy of Criminals. About a month ago, soldiers Stationed in Dansadau went to Magami(50 KM away) to restock their supplies. Informants were alleged to have contacted the bandits and they came in mass number and rained live ammunition on helpless residents. Governor Bello, this week dissolved his entire Cabinet and also Suspended the Emir of Dansadau. Just yesterday, armed bandits rode in just 5 bikes and sprayed bullets in Dansadau. They directly went into the houses of relatives of the Vice-Chairman of that Committee kidnapped his Nephew, another nephew’s wife, her son & also her younger brother. Make of this what you would. Let it be known, we “Jikokin Danbungudu” will NEVER be cowered into silence. We are students of knowledge & farmers. We fear nobody except Allah SWT. We still maintain our NO RANSOM stance. These are pertinent questions that should bug any curios mind: is it a retaliation for suspending the emir, or maybe an attack on the former Senator for his opinions against against banditry? What would the state government do? Would the deposed emir be interrogated on this incident? Is it a declaration of war to the former senator’s family? What will the FG & Nat. security do? Long Live Dansadau Long Live Zamfara Long Live Nigeria GOOD NATION, GREAT PEOPLE https://twitter.com/iam_dansadau/status/1400421587996848129?s=21 Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44 Seun |
The rumors that Russian Wagner private military company is expanding on the African continent proved to be right. A man suspiciously reminding the Wagner’s boss Yevgeny Prigozhin has been noticed in Lagos, Nigeria. According to Yury Zverev, a Russian military expert, Nigerian media reported that he was seen at a meeting with the Nigerian Army's Chief of Staff, Farouk Yahya. Why would Nigerian military authorities seek audience with Mr. Prigozhin? Currently the country is experiencing an acute security crisis that is a result of the rise of different bandit and terrorist networks, including the infamous Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria, which is also active in Chad, Niger and Cameroon. In May 2021, the Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched an invasion of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, Nigeria, which served as main base of Boko Haram, a rival jihadist rebel group. Following heavy fighting, ISWAP overran the Boko Haram troops, cornering their leader Abubakar Shekau. The two sides entered negotiations about Boko Haram's surrender during which Shekau committed suicide, possibly detonating himself with a suicide vest. Shekau's death was regarded a major event by outside observers, as he had been one of the driving forces in the Islamist insurgency which has affected Nigeria and neighboring countries since 2009. How can we be sure that it was Mr. Prigozhin, who visited Nigeria recently? The thorough investigation managed to establish the exact aircraft and its route, pointing out the figure of the Wagner owner. A business jet P4-BAR Gulfstream G550 landed at Lagos Airport in Nigeria from Benghazi, on June 24, 2021, according to flight control data. This aircraft is owned by Sonnig International Private Jets (SIPJ) registered airline On the island of Aruba, belonging to the Netherlands, this airline is linked to Libyan Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, where the official website of the airline states that the company, in cooperation with local authorities in Libya and investors, operates a large shopping center and an aircraft hangar in Benghazi. According to data from open monitoring sources, the plane flew 3 times to Benghazi, this July, and the private business plane was linked to Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, which is also indicated by the frequent flights of the plane to Libya. Thus it proves that the man seen with Nigerian Army's Chief of Staff is Mr. Prigozhin who came to negotiate the terms of the Wagner’s contract with the Nigerian government. Sources, close to the Nigerian military, also confirm that work is underway to bring Wagner's military forces to Nigeria, to confront militants and terrorists in the north-east of the country, because Nigeria has become one of the main sources of the terrorist threat on the continent. thebosstrevor1:You’re basing your entire assumptions on the belief that someone will convert money to dollars and keep in his wardrobe. You should also factor the going interest rate for saving dollars. Even at that, you should consider the interest rate for saving dollars in a US bank account. That being said, as an investor, it goes beyond keeping dollars in your bank account, you will also make the money work for you. Finally, saving your money in naira is foolish because with an inflation rate of over 18% and an interest rate of 11.5%, tell me how it makes no sense to save money in dollars? |
thebosstrevor1:*sigh. Like someone rightfully asked, how does the rate of devaluation of naira against the dollar match inflation in Nigeria? Compared to the rate of inflation in the country, is the interest rate higher or lower? In principle, any time the value of another currency is rising, relative to yours, you'll make money by keeping it in that currency. |
thebosstrevor1:Sorry ehn. What is your educational background and qualification? Then what’s your occupation/line of business? |
Who are you? And what in God’s name are you saying? Ugh! |
