Amasiri Traditional Institutions Condemn Oso-Edda Killings, Calls for Immediate Implementation of Boundary Delineation Report.

The ancient traditional institutions in Amasiri, Afikpo Local government area of Ebonyi state, comprising the Ichie Amasiri (revered elders), the various age grades: the ESSA Ruling Council, the Ekpu Uketo, and the Uke Amasiri, custodians of the Amasiri traditions and cultural heritage, has risen in condemnation of the last Thursday's violent killings in Okporojo village, Oso-Edda, Edda LGA of Ebonyi state.

The group described the occurrence as regrettable and barbaric in its entirety.

They observed that Amasiri and Edda people are brothers, united with one lineage system, stressing that any bloodshed between the two clans is not only considered an abomination, but totally condemnable.

The traditional institutions made their position known in a joint communique titled: "Urgent Appeal to His Excellency Builder Francis Ognonna Nwifuru, Executive Governor of Ebonyi State: Expedite Action on Amasiri/Oso Boundary Delineation" and made available to newsmen on Monday.

It was signed by the eight chairmen of the different traditional institutions in the clan including Ichie Hyacinth Idam Mbe, Mr. Roland Ntachi and Apostle Ekuma Emmanuel Ndubuisi, among others.

While condoling with families that have lost their loved ones and properties since the senseless crisis erupted, the group pledged to cooperate with the state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru to unravel and adequately punish the perpetrators.

It said: "This is deeply regrettable and we condemn these barbaric acts in its entirety.

"We are all brothers, united with one lineage system in the whole of Afikpo and Edda local government areas without exception.

"Thus any action that leads to bloodshed is not only an abomination, but totally out of question".

The traditional institutions, further in the communique appealed to the state government to expedite action on the delineation of the boundary between Amasiri and Oso - Edda communities as the surest way of ending the mutual mistrust and intermittent violent clashes between the two brother communities.

They insisted that delineating the boundary in accordance with the 2003 gazetted report which the two sides agreed to, would definitely restore permanent peace in the area, prevent further bloodshed and destruction and enable the villagers access their farm lands safely, even as the year's farming season is almost at hand.

The communique elaborated: "The Ebonyi State Government, after series of peace meetings between the communities late last year, took the initiative to delineate the land, a decision that was welcomed by both parties.

"It is important to note that the current effort is based on a 2003 gazetted report which the two sides agree will put the matter to rest.

"Another effort in 2023 still agreed on the implementation of the 2003 report.

"We are at a loss why government is dragging their feet on its implementation.

"This delay in implementing the report has continued to fuel hostilities in the area as both sides obviously need to cultivate their lands to feed their families.

With the farming season approaching, we urge prompt settlement of this issue.

"We humbly plead with our beloved Governor, as a people - oriented and listening Governor, to intervene and order immediate implementation of the delineation.

"This will, no doubt, bring relief to the communities and foster a harmonious coexistence."

The group described as unfortunate the recent development in which the neighbours of Amasiri have decided to encroach into her territory from all sides at the same resulting in situations tending to present the peace loving and hospitable Amasiri clan in bad light.

They however pledged to continue to be law abiding and pursue peaceful approaches in spite of all provocations.

"Unfortunately, it does look like all our neighbours rose up at the same time to make an in course into our lands.

"These situations, as unfortunate as they are, present us in lights and colours that are alien to us.

"We are naturally peace loving, accommodating and hospitable, and that is why we have always borne all provocations, including killings of our children, abductions and destruction of properties with equanimity and hoping solely on government to right the wrongs.

"That is also why it is on record that we have NEVER blocked any road, looking for people from neighbouring communities despite losing uncountable souls to such barbaric acts", the communique added.

The group appealed to their brother communities and neighbours to weigh in to efforts to restore peace, law and order on their mutual borders.

The Tender Mercies International, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) on Wednesday, hosted its 2026 Widows Outreach in Imo State, convening widows and vulnerable women for a programme centered on compassion, awareness, and community support.

In a statement signed by Mrs Joy. Offor, the organisation's Director of Communication and Advocacy, the outreach was borne out of the organisation 's desire to identify with the down-trodden in the society.

Addressing participants, the Founder and Executive Director of Tender Mercies International, Dr. Mrs. Julie Onyeukwu described the outreach as a mission shaped by personal experience as a widow and a commitment to restoring dignity, hope, and purpose to women affected by loss and hardship.

Dr. Mrs Onyeukwu emphasised that the gathering was designed to foster connection, care, and collective healing.

"Over 300 widows and vulnerable women were feted at the occasion and presented with food items such as rice, condiments and cash.

"I have an altruistic commitment to restore the dignity, hope and purpose to women affected by such loss and hardship.

"The organisation therefore, aims to foster connection, care and collective healing," she noted.

Barr. Ugochi Iheme, a Lawyer, enlightened the women on their rights as widows in their respective homes.

Iheme charged the women to see re-marriage as something to be done under their wishes and not under compulsion.

Dr Yvonne Onyeukwu, a Medical Doctor enlightened the women on taking good care of their health, especially on breast and cervical cancer awareness; its prevention, early detection and care."

"You should be hardworking and do all within your reach to ensure your children are educated and succeed in life, in cherished memories of their late husbands."

Founded and launched in Nigeria in 2003, Tender Mercies International also maintains formal status in the United States. The organization works to improve the lives of women and vulnerable groups through targeted interventions.Its core focus areas include social justice and advocacy, disability inclusion, skills acquisition, mentorship, and capacity building for women.

The 2026 Widows Outreach reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to practical, compassion-driven action and long-term empowerment for women and communities.

Osborne Umahi has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ohaozara Local Government Area chairmanship election, following the party’s primary held at Obiozara Primary School, Uburu.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the council primary and State Deputy Chairman of the party, Hon. Alphonsus Chinedu Nwali, disclosed that 55 accredited delegates participated in the exercise.

According to him, all 55 votes cast were valid, with no invalid votes recorded.

“Having scored the highest number of votes cast, Osborne Umahi is hereby declared the winner of the APC local government primary election,” Nwali stated.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and for the strong support extended to the Ministry of Works, particularly in road and bridge construction nationwide.

He also commended Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, describing him as a leader of integrity, transparency and gratitude.

Senator Umahi revealed that Osborne Umahi’s nomination was solely the governor’s initiative, stressing that he neither influenced nor interfered with the process.

“This nomination goes beyond politics for me. It reflects the governor’s sincerity and commitment to President Tinubu’s programmes and the development of Ebonyi people,” he said.

Assuring residents of Ohaozara of purposeful leadership, Senator Umahi noted that while local government funds may be limited, the family would complement efforts through personal and corporate support, especially in opening village, farm and rural access roads.

He further praised President Tinubu’s ongoing infrastructure drive, saying it has helped address long-standing feelings of neglect in the Southeast and is gradually reshaping public perception in the region.

In his acceptance speech, Osborne Umahi thanked President Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented infrastructural development across Nigeria and the Southeast, calling it the highest level of inclusion the region has witnessed.

He also appreciated Governor Nwifuru for the confidence reposed in him, pledging not to disappoint. Osborne described the governor as a dependable leader and reaffirmed the Umahi family’s support for his administration.

Outlining his development agenda for Ohaozara, the APC candidate promised to improve access roads to markets and farmlands, establish cottage agricultural centres, introduce mechanised farming, construct durable concrete roads, and strengthen security to make Ohaozara one of the safest local government areas in the country.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Development, Chioma Nweze, said the large turnout at the primary reflected Osborne Umahi’s wide acceptance.

“An elephant cannot give birth to a lesser animal. Osborne is vibrant, capable and has what it takes to deliver. With collective support from stakeholders, he will be one of the best local government chairmen ever produced,” she said.

"No. 1 Builder" -- Eternal Brothers Club hails Nwifuru for Aloh's endorsement as Incoming LGA Chairman


The Eternal Brothers Club has hailed Governor Francis Nwifuru for endorsing its Vice President, Hon. Chidi Aloh as the incoming Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state, describing him as a "True Builder".

The club led by its President, Hon. Charles Akpu-Enika made the exultation on Tuesday during a solidarity/ congratulatory visit to Aloh who emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for Abakaliki LGA, in the forthcoming council polls.

The Vice Chairman of the Club's Board of Trustees (BOT) Hon. Uche Muoka led the gauntlet of appreciation to the governor, describing him as a "True Builder of Men".

"Shaba" as he is popularly called in the Ebonyi political and social circles,.said that with the endorsement, the governor has fulfilled the biblical injunction of "lifting a man from the heap of dirts to glory"

"This fulfils the injunction of taking a man from a point of nowhere to somewhere.

"The governor embodies the true essence of building because real builders start from the scratch,; clears the area, gathers sand and water and before one knows it, the building stands.

"This is what God has used the governor to do on Chidi and I pray that such becomes our portion in Jesus Name.".

Supporting Muoka's assertion, the Treasurer of the Club's BOT, Hon. Maxwell Umahi, said that Nwifuru has taught the world how best to build people.

"Years ago, we, including the club's President fought that the chairmanship of the LGA be zoned to the Izzi Unughu area but because it was not God's wish, it did not work.

The President of the Club, Hon. Charles Akpu-Enika thanked God and Nwifuru for endorsing Aloh, describing the development as a sign of good tidings to the club.

Akpu-Enika popularly known as the "Game Changer" in the Ebonyi political and social circles, described Aloh as a courageous, sincere, truthful and accommodating fellow.

" I have known Aloh since 2013 and declare unequivocally that if saints would be picked from Izzi land, he will be at the forefront.

Ohanivo Community, Prince Aja Nwabueze Hold New Year Thanksgiving, Pray for Peace and Development

The Ohanivo community in Ebonyi State has joined the founder of the Prince Aja Nwabueze Foundation, Prince Aja Nwabueze, in a thanksgiving celebration to mark the beginning of the New Year.

The thanksgiving ceremony, which drew community leaders, youths, women, and members of the foundation, featured prayers for peace, unity, and sustained development in Ohanivo community and Ebonyi State at large.

Speaking during the event, Prince Aja Nwabueze expressed gratitude to God for life, protection, and good health throughout the past year, noting that the gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of unity, collective responsibility, and community-driven development.

Prince Nwabueze also used the occasion to commend the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for what he described as people-oriented leadership and a strong commitment to the development of the state.

He praised the governor’s achievements in infrastructure development, social welfare, and good governance, stressing that the initiatives of the current administration were having positive impacts across various communities in the state.

The foundation founder urged the people of Ohanivo to continue supporting Governor Nwifuru and his administration, noting that sustained support would enable the government to consolidate on its development strides.

He further called on residents of the community to stand firmly with the governor ahead of the 2027 general elections to ensure continuity of development in Ebonyi State.

Nobody Is Collapsing Labour Party Into ADC in Ebonyi — Stakeholders Reaffirm Support for Obi



The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Henry Ude, has dismissed claims that the party is collapsing its structure into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chief Ude stated this while addressing journalists after an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital. He clarified that while the party is open to joining a coalition to support the presidential aspiration of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s structure and identity in Ebonyi State remain intact.

According to him, the party is not merging or collapsing into any other political party but only aligning within a coalition framework.

“ADC and Labour Party, which one is the strongest and more rooted party? It is Labour Party, definitely not ADC. Nobody is collapsing Labour Party into any party at all. What we are joining is a coalition, not collapsing Labour Party into another party,” Ude said.

Speaking on the party’s readiness for the forthcoming local government elections in the state, the LP chairman explained that certain internal processes are still on hold due to unresolved court issues at the national level.

“We are still deliberating on all that because of some court issues at the national level. We have forms and all necessary materials, but our forms will not be robbery forms. They will reflect the true values of the Labour Party,” he said.

Ude further urged voters to prioritize competence and integrity over wealth during elections, assuring that the party is committed to reducing financial barriers for aspirants.

“Don’t vote for people because they have money. Choose the right individuals. If possible, the Labour Party will even support aspirants financially. Let the people choose their leaders, not money choosing leaders,” he added.

Also speaking, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Chief Splendour Oko, reaffirmed that the party’s structure remains strong and unshaken, while emphasizing its commitment to supporting Peter Obi through the Obedient Movement.

Oko noted that supporters of Obi cut across different political parties, stressing that good governance, rather than party affiliation, is the core focus of the movement.

“During the last presidential election, it was not only Labour Party members that voted for Peter Obi in Ebonyi State. Even members of other parties did. Obedient members are everywhere.

Wherever Peter Obi is, we follow him because we believe he can deliver good governance,” Oko said.
On the purpose of the expanded stakeholders’ meeting, the State Secretary of the party, Comrade Innocent Igiri, said it was convened to brief local government chairmen, secretaries, and state executives on recent developments within the party.

Igiri also criticized the high cost of nomination forms charged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming local government elections, describing the fees as outrageous and insensitive.

“At a time when people are hungry and struggling to survive, a political party is charging as much as ₦30 million for nomination forms. How do you expect ordinary people to participate in governance?” he queried.

He described the development as “criminally inclined” and called for an investigation into the party’s leadership, urging Nigerians and Labour Party faithful to remain hopeful for change.

“The bad leadership will not continue. Corruption will not continue. The killings will not continue. Change is coming,” Igiri said.

The Labour Party (LP) in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has strongly refuted reports alleging that its structure, alongside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resolved to collapse into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Reacting through a press release signed by the Onicha LGA Chairman of the party, Chief Ogbonna Agu Chinedu, the Labour Party described the report published by The Nation News as “false, unfounded, and misleading.”

“We wish to categorically refute this claim and state unequivocally that no such decision, resolution, or collective agreement has been reached by the Labour Party structures in Onicha Local Government Area to collapse into the ADC,” the statement said.

According to the party, the publication “does not represent the position of the leadership or membership of the Labour Party in Onicha LGA,” insisting that the party’s organizational structure remains intact.

“Our distinct identity, ideology, and organizational structure remain focused on strengthening our grassroots presence ahead of future political engagements,” the statement added.

While acknowledging that individuals have the constitutional right to belong to any political party of their choice, the Labour Party warned against presenting personal political decisions as collective resolutions of the party.

“Such personal decisions must not be misrepresented as collective resolutions or endorsed movements of the Labour Party in the state,” Chief Ogbonna cautioned.

The party further called on media organizations, particularly The Nation News, to uphold professional ethics by verifying information from authorized and credible sources before publication.

“The spread of unverified reports has the potential to misinform the public and create unnecessary political tension,” it noted.

Reaffirming the party’s political direction, Chief Ogbonna stressed that the Labour Party in Onicha LGA remains “grounded and committed to democratic principles,” adding that the party is strategically positioned to “challenge the incumbent government come 2027.”

The Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area said it would register over 200,000 members for the All Progressive Congress (APC) on the ongoing nationwide e- registration exercise.

It also declared massive support for the re-election bid of both President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah in 2027.

The Igbo-Etiti Council Chairman, Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo, disclosed this on Tuesday while flagging-off the APC e-registration exercise at the Council Headquarters in Ogbede.

Odo argued that registering the large member would enable the LGA to demand for more development from both the federal and the state governments.

“Our target is to register not less than 200,000 members of the APC in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.

“This e-registration is a strategic move to reposition the party, deepen internal democracy, and give every member a sense of belonging,” he said.

According to him, logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise, emphasizing that the exercise will enable old and new members to officially identify with the party.

The council chairman hinted that the journey towards political emancipation of the South East region had started, adding that the Igbo presidency can only be actualised through APC.

He expressed strong optimism that the party would win all elective positions, including the governorship seat, in 2027

Earlier, the APC e-registration Coordinating Supervisor in Igbo-Etiti, Mr Salem Ezeorah, explained that the registration exercise makes one an authentic member of the party.

Ezeorah maintained that this would make it impossible for anyone to be denied access as an APC member.

While urging everyone to participate in the e-registration exercise to increase the number of party members in the council area, the Coordinating Supervisor hinted politics it's all about the number.

He charged ward agents to embark on aggressive door-to-door registration in order to register up to the target 200,000 in Igbo-Etiti.

Also, the South East Zonal APC Women Leader, Mrs Uchenna Diyiokeh, enjoined women to champion and ensure the registration exercise is a huge success.

The highpoint of the event was formal registration of the council chairman as the party member.

Neuro-psychiatric Hospital Enugu: Court reinstates Prof Monday Igwe as MD, awards N3m damages


The Industrial Court sitting sitting in Abuja has ordered the reinstatement of Prof Monday Igwe as Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu (FNHE).

Our Correspondent reports that Justice Emmanuel D Subilim of the court on his judgement on Dec 11 2025 ordered for his reinstatement.


Subilim, therefore nullified the appointment of Dr Nneka Unaogu and awarded N3 million damages to Prof Igwe.

He ordered for the payment of his salary from Sept 2023 to Dec 2025.

It recalls that Prof. Igwe was suspended on Sept 2023, following frivolous petitions. However, a 7-man investigation team then cleared him of all allegations, recommended his reinstatement

The Labour Party in Ebonyi state has affirmed stability of its activities despite Mr. Peter Obi's defection to the African Democratic party (ADC), as well as pledged continued support for good governance in the state and across the country.

Recall that Mr Peter Obi, who was the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 general elections defected to the African Democratic party (ADC) on the 2nd January 2023 which has generated mixed feelings across political punters ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a clarification press release made available to newsmen in Abakaliki the state capital, jointly signed by the state chairman, Engr Henry Ude, and the state's Secretary, Comrade Innocent Igiri, the party said it remained resolute to accountability and transparency.

It called faithful members to avoid panicking assuring that the party structure remains unshakable and that the leadership is committed to ensuring that their interest protected with credibility, urging other politicians with interior motives to stay clear of the party's activities.

SSA on community engagement, Nweze applauds Tinubu, Umahi, S-East governors for partnering to develop region




The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South East region, Chioma Nweze has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of works, David Umahi and the five governors of the region for their invaluable supports and partnership towards the development of the region, especially in 2025.

Nweze made this known in a statement she personally signed and issued to newsmen to express great gratitude towards the deepening community engagement across the South East region by the President Tinubu's administration.

According to her: "I am profoundly grateful for what has been an engaging, demanding, and impactful year of service under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda, which places people, inclusion, and responsive governance at the heart of national development.

On Empowerment and Grants: "Provision of starter packs and financial grants to programme graduands, enabling them to launch and sustain entrepreneurial ventures.

On Free Medical Outreach Programmes:
"Regular medical outreach initiatives were conducted across the South East, offering free cancer treatment, eye screening, and dialysis services to indigent patients.

On Employment Creation: "we Facilitated the creation of over 1,000 job opportunities within government parastatals and agencies, empowering youths and professionals.

On Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): "Successfully established 95 SMEs, ensuring at least one functional enterprise in each Local Government Area of the South East.

On ICT and POP Skills Development:
"Delivered training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Point-of-Purchase (POP) skills, equipping young people with modern, market-relevant competencies.

She stated further that her office partnered the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Nigeria’s 774 LGAs, with emphasis on communicable diseases, maternal and infant mortality reduction.

On Youth and Economic Empowerment / Financial Inclusion: "Advocated for and supported the implementation of Renewed Hope Agenda programmes targeting youth empowerment, MSME development, nano and startup businesses, digital payments, and financial literacy, particularly in underserved communities.

On Grassroots Leadership and Sustainable Development Advocacy:
"We Participated in grassroots and sustainable development summits, providing policy direction and reinforcing commitments toward unlocking regional potential and contributing to Nigeria’s long-term goal of a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

On South-East Development Commission Advocacy: "We Supported the re-introduction of the South-East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2023 (SB.129) to enhance federal presence, infrastructure development, and economic growth in the region" she noted.

The Nations News reports that the SSA received DMOMA Awards – 'Lady of Excellence for outstanding community engagement in 2025' in recognition of her laudable achievements in the south east region.

The chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr Eric Odo, has officially launched the Igbo-Etiti Development and Humanitarian Initiative (IDHI) for inclusive growth.

Odo described the Initiative as a coordinated framework aimed at repositioning the council area for sustainable and inclusive development.

Speaking during the launch on Tuesday at Ogbede, Odo said the IDHI was designed to deliberately address the pressing developmental and humanitarian needs of the people.

He explained that IDHI was conceived to align government policies with community aspirations, private sector participation and diaspora engagement, saying the goal was to improve the life of the people.

“The Initiative is anchored on the understanding that governance must transcend routine administration and deliberately address security, human capital development, social welfare among others.

“The IDHI is built on key pillars, including homeland security, education, infrastructure development, health, water and sanitation, youth and social empowerment, gender-based interventions, and sports development.

“Security remain the foundation of development. Under IDHI, we are determined to strengthen community-based security through collaboration with statutory agencies, traditional institutions, and local vigilante groups.

“We will prioritise equipping the security operatives with necessary tools and train them regularly to enable them secure all nooks and crannies of Igbo-Etiti.

“The Initiative will focus on education through rehabilitation of school infrastructure, teacher capacity-building, and targeted support for indigent students.

“The IDHI will drive strategic interventions in rural roads, markets electrification and digital connectivity.

“We are also creating a well-structured avenue for diaspora investment, encouraging our brother and sisters abroad to partner in transforming Igbo-Etiti,” Odo said.

On his part, the chairman of IDHI Board of Trustees (BOT), Maj. Gen. Victor Ezeugwu (Rtd) pledged his commitment to ensure the Initiative succeeds, stressing that it would go a long way in the development of Igbo-Etiti.

Ezeugwu disclosed that he and other BOT members would work closely with communities in the area to ensure that they contribute to the project.

According to him, he will ensure that any money donated or given for the Initiative would not be only be judiciously used for the development of the area but would also be accounted for.

Also, the Founder of Maduka University, Chief Sam Onyishi, promised to join hands with others, in order to develop the council area, which he revealed have blessed him significantly.

Onyishi, who also the chief launcher, commended the Council chairman for conceiving what he called a forward-looking and people-driven development model.

“I am impressed by the vision behind this initiative.

"It creates a strong platform for the people of Igbo-Etiti to take charge of their own development,” Onyishi said.

The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the IDHI 5-Year Strategic Development Plan and presentation of awards to individuals including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Prof. Simon Ortuanya.

Yuletide;

The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), a support group for President Bola Tinubu's continuity come 2027, has shared food items with its members in the Ebonyi State chapter to celebrate the yuletide season.

The items shared included bags of rice, cartons of instant noodles, bags of garri, and wrappers, among others.

This is part of an exercise to demonstrate President Tinubu's commitments to the welfare of his supporters in the region and to create awareness for his re-election in 2027, while extending love to the people in line with the celebration season.

Mr. Belusochuku Michael Enwerre, who is the national coordinator of the group, said the gesture serves as a reminder of the importance of caring for one another, particularly the vulnerable ones and families facing various challenges.

"Today's distribution embodies the true spirit of Christmas. By extending a helping hand and putting a smile on the faces of our people. The President has seen that today, we will be on point to distribute his food items to you.

"And you know we are doing well; three or four or five months ago, we were all here in this hall where we did a massive empowerment for our people under the leadership of the Renewed Hope Agenda. And indeed, we will continue to demonstrate that often.

"The renewed hope agenda under the virtual leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is anchored on inclusiveness, people-centered governance, and restoring hope to Nigerians.

"As the national coordinator of the Southeast Renewed Hope Agenda, I want to emphasize that this initiative aligns perfectly with the president's commitment to cushioning the effects of economic challenges and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind this festive season." He said.

Belusochuku, who described President Tinubu's government as recognizing the youths, applauded him for ensuring that sensitive positions in his cabinet, such as special assistants, ministers, and directors of government parastatals and agencies, are young people.

He commended President Tinubu's numerous interventions in the Southeast with specifics to political inclusion, infrastructure, and security while expressing confidence that the region would turn up en masse to vote for his re-election.

"In the Southeast, look at the award of $3 billion for the construction of a railway in the Southeast. It's commendable. It has never happened before in Southeast.

"Again, the creation of the Southeast Development Commission is commendable, as is the funding of it. And even having a business aspect where the young ones can tap in is commendable.

"Massive road constructions, employment, empowerment, etc., are things of joy. And anybody from Southeast who says that the president is not doing what he should, think twice and look." He added.

A renowned Support Group known as Nigeria Consensus and Awareness for Bola Tinubu 2027, has declared january 1st 2026, as Marathon Prayer Day for Nigeria.

The Group National Leader and Director of Monitoring, Planning, logistics and Administration Hon Otumba Akin Joye (FCIM), made the assertion in a statement issued on Friday and made available to newsmen.

The statement urged the public to desist from apportioning blames on the federal government insisting that the nations challenges emanated many years ago.

According to the statement, "At the end of the stakeholders meeting of the group, we declare January 1st 2026 as a Marathon Prayer Day for Nigeria"

The prayer day will be dedicated for President Bola Tinubu, Governors, Senators, members of the House of Representative and Chairman of Local Governments for Peace in the country.

The statement appealed to traditional rulers to partake in the special prayers to obtain God guidance and peace for the country.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Uchenna Igwe has hailed the Eternal Brothers Club for its proactiveness and resilience in identifying with the society and its ideals.

Igwe gave the commendation during the club's colourful Christmas/ End of the Year party at its headquarters in Abakaliki on Monday which attracted eminent personalities in the political, business, academia among other sectors of the state and beyond.

Igwe who was the chairman of the occasion, said the club's responsiveness to societal ideals and needs, accounted for its growing influence in the state, country and beyond.

"The club has thus become unique and outstanding with its membership cutting across Nigeria and beyond.

"We thank God for being alive to witness this epoch -making event as the only way the club would sustain this impeccable attributions is sustaining the spirit of unity and brotherliness within it."

The President of the club, Hon. Charles Akpu-Enika said the club has grown in leaps and bounds; from.a humble beginning to becoming the model it is presently.

Akpu-Enika, the Former Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in the state, said the club placed as its top priorities; unity,.peace, enhancement of members' welfare and community development.

The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu state, Dr Eric Odo has presented a sum of ₦7.74 billion to the Legislative Council for the 2026 fiscal year.

Odo said during the presentation of the budget, tagged, “Budget of Continuous Infrastructural Development and Empowerment of the Needy,” on Friday in Ogbede, that the 35 per cent increase was recorded, which is over the ₦5.4 billion budget for 2025.

He explained that the proposed budget was aimed at deepening infrastructural development and expanding social welfare programmes across the council area.

"A breakdown of the estimate shows that ₦3.37 billion, representing 44 per cent of the total budget, earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while ₦4.35 billion, representing 56 per cent, allocated to capital projects.

"Recurrent expenditure will cover the payment of the approved minimum wage, pensions, leave allowances, as well as monthly stipends for widows, widowers and persons with disabilities," the Chairman added.

He added that a significant portion of the capital expenditure would be devoted to road construction and the rehabilitation of water schemes, among other critical infrastructure projects.

Odo noted that the 2026 budget was designed to fast-track the delivery of essential services and improve the living conditions of residents of the local government area.

He assured that his administration would ensure transparency and diligence in the implementation of the budget upon its passage.

Speaking on the performance of the 2025 budget, the Chairman disclosed that it had attained an implementation level of 89.5 per cent, with numerous infrastructural projects executed during the year.

Odo commended the Legislative Council for its sustained partnership and support, pledging not to take the cooperation for granted.

In his response, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Mr Stephen Okwu, assured that the budget proposal would be given accelerated consideration and timely passage.

Okwu further pledged the council’s continued support for the chairman to enable him sustain his development initiatives in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.

The Enugu Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed it's plans to register over 1.5 million members in the state.

The State's Caretaker chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu during the flag-off of training for the APC E-registration Local Government Supervisors.

The Chairman noted that the E-registration would enable the party to register new members, which would equally expand its membership base in the state.

He pointed out that the exercise would eliminate the practice of preventing people from registering, saying at the end of the exercise, nobody would be remove or claim that an APC member is not one.

Nwoye maintained that the commencement of the online membership registration was indicative of the state's determination to lead in the party's organisation and structure.

"The training is the first mark of how the party is henceforth organised.

“It's no longer a time when people run away with party registers and refuse to issue you membership cards.

“Gone are the days when one's membership of the party is in doubt. Enugu state is taking the lead as a smart state with smart political party.

"We want to make Enugu the best state in Nigeria and the governor is working towards that.

“We want to be number one in the renewed hope agenda," Nwoye said.

He expressed optimism that the exercise would help to consolidate President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ as well as Gov. Peter Mbah's 'tomorrow is here' mantra.

According to him, this will enable the governor to continue his good governance and make Enugu the best state in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the APC E-registration chairman in Enugu State, Chief Flavour Eze, explained that the idea behind the online registration was to eliminate fictitious members from the party.

Eze stressed that members would be registered with their National Identification Number (NIN) and their Voters Card, noting that the exercise would be done online.

While hinting that the registration would be done at the Ward level, the chairman disclosed that they would soon train the ward supervisors, to enable them carry out the exercise successfully.

Eze applauded governor's leadership style, which, according to him, has not only transformed but has also opened up the state to investors, urging him not to rest on his oars.

The APC E-registration chairman described Gov. Mbah's appointees to him as round pegs in round holes, saying they are competent and qualified to occupy the positions.

He then urged the people to continue supporting the state government, to enable it implement its policies and programmes for the betterment of ndi Enugu.

Yuletide: Eternal Brothers Club shares love with less privileged across Ebonyi


The Eternal Brothers Club, a Social Organisation with headquarters in Abakaliki, has identified with the less privileged across Ebonyi state through the distribution of various items to celebrate the Yuletide.

The gesture has become part of the club's tradition of assisting the less privileged across the state, thereby making them feel belonged in the society in the face of prevailing economic hardship.

The club thus distributed food items such as rice, condiments among others including cash to over 300 households at its headquarters, Obama community of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state., in an avid show of compassion in the spirit of the season.

Hon. Charles Akpu-Enika, the President of the Club said the act was part of the club's annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, to identify with its headquarters'' host community and others across the state.

"We use this period among other periods in every year,, to bring smiles, relief, and renewed hope to hundreds of families in the Yuletide.

"We know what this gesture means to the benefiting households but above being a material support, it is our own way of valuing and remembering them.

"We understand what many households are experiencing economically, that is why we want to be a radiating ray of hope to the young,, old and needy.".

The Secretary of the Club, Barr Emeka Anosike in his address, said the outreach was a fulfillment of the club's core values of brotherhood, service, and responsibility to humanity.

Anosike said that the club's activities have overtime, re-affirmed that its strength does not only lie in unity among its members but also in the thrust to enhance the wellbeing of people around it.

He used the opportunity to outline the club's achievements which include the construction of an ultra-modern headquarters, having members in various elective and appointive positions in the state and county, among others.

Represented by state commissioner for youths and sports development, Hon. Richard Idike, Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his commitments towards continued human and capital development in the state and reiterated that he is anchoring his administration on the needs of the people, especially the youths.

"This administration is anchored on what the people need; as a government, we'll continue to empower Ebonyi youths to greater heights.

"Since inception on the 29th of May 2023, the youths have been the center point of this administration's mantra, the People's Charter of Needs.

"Many youths have been appointed into top government positions by this administration. Youths numbering 2,000 have also been empowered with a grant of 2 million Naira.

"This has enabled them to start up a business or scale up an existing business for self-reliance. Youth organizations like BODY include the National Youth Council, IZZINNDO, EZZA EZEKUNA, IKWO-NOYO, NBGOLIZHIA, IGBASSA, and OHANIVO" Nwifuru said.

Held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center (ICC) in Abakaliki, the state, at a morning session where the youths were sensitized against social vices such as drug abuse, alcoholism, and indulgence in cult-related activities.

In his remarks, the National President of the FON youth movement, Hon. Chinedu Emerike, noted that the 2025 Ebonyi youth summit tagged "Youths as a driving force for societal values" is aimed at providing a platform for young minds to share ideas, learn from each other's experiences, and network with like-minded individuals.

"We are gathered here today to empower, inspire, and ignite positive change amongst our youths." Emerike, who commended Governor Nwifuru for his numerous contributions to the growth and development of young people in the state, appreciated his inclusive leadership style, which has benefited them.

"Today in Ebonyi State, youths are the leaders of today, contrary to the old order. Thank you, Your Excellency, for the youth inclusiveness in appointments to various positions of government, empowerment of all kinds, contracts, elected offices, employment in various disciplines, and scholarships, both local and foreign, to mention but a few." He said.

Similarly, Commander Chibouyi Victor, who's the BOT chairman of the FON youth movement, commended the government for numerous empowerment programs for the youths, saying the 2025 summit is to demonstrate support for the youthful governor and also urged them to compliment the gesture.

"Today, a youth is the governor of Ebonyi State, the Exco members are youths, and local government chairmen are youths. We are using this avenue to support our governor in the little way we can by sensitizing the youths so that even if the governor is empowering them, they should use it judiciously.

"Let it not be as if they are getting a national cake from the government. They will not just see it as, you know, we are gaining from the government; it's our national cake. They will empower you with millions of Naira, and you will end up spending it in a hotel." He added.

ASUU Calabar zone condemns online publication on court ruling on 10 Unical lecturers


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed concern over an online publications by "Newsdiary" that does not reflect the full context of any due process on court ruling between them and the 10 Unical lecturers in Calabar, Cross River state.

It has become important to inform the public properly on the status of the suit between Dr John Inaku, Dr. Ebim Abua, Dr. Igba Ushi, Dr. Ubi Omini, Dr. Sylvanus Agim, Dr. Ekpe Edemekong, Okon Nsikhe, Francis Ejeje, Kingsley Okoi and Suleiman Lawal as Complainants and ASUU as one of the Defendants.

The suit with number NICN/CA/44/2025 is before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Calabar Judicial Division.

The Complainants approached the Court with a motion requesting for an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from “harassing, intimidating, threatening, suspending or interfering with the rights, privileges and entitlement of the Claimants until the determination of the substantive case”.

They also sought for an order restraining ASUU from giving effect to the suspension of the Branch and to stop further payment and remittance of outstanding check-off dues or other dues pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case.

The earlier information, released without proper verification is a huge risk capable of distorting the public discourse and undermining the integrity of a delicate and ongoing process that is critical to the future of the Union and her Branches.

The Zonal Coordinator of ASUU Calabar Zone, Comrade Ikechuku Igwenyi made this known when addressing the press in Abakaliki over the Ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Calabar on Dec. 2, over this application for an interim injunction by some members of ASUU in University of Calabar.

Igwenyi expressed worry over unverified publications regarding the imbroglio between members of ASUU in University of Calabar, in a suit instituted by concerned lecturers from the University involving Dr. John Inaku and 9 others.

The ASUU Coordinator condemned the online publication of Newsdiary for misinforming the public, stating that “Court Rules in Remittance of Unical’s Check-off Dues to ASUU” whereas the ruling was slated for Dec.2.

According to him, the ruling was selected on an interlocutory injunction restraining the Union from exercising its constitutional powers over the suspension of ASUU Unical Branch due to failure to fulfil their constitutional right to the Union and to follow due process in initiating proper disciplinary measures against defaulting members in the Branch.

The Counsel to ASUU, Bar. Christian C. Chukwu and his colleague, Bar. Celestine O. Onwe, said they were in Court for the delivery of ruling on the motion for interlocutory injunction filed at the NICN, Calabar, by concerned members of ASUU in Unical.

"The motion was for restraining the Unical Branch from remitting the Statutory check-off dues to the national body of ASUU, pending the determination of the substantive suit," they said.

They also prayed the court for an order preventing ASUU National from giving effect to the suspension of the Branch (a concluded action) as well as an order restraining ASUU from demanding further payment and remitting check-off dues to National until the substantive suit is determined.

In opposition to the motion, counsel to ASUU filed a counter affidavit and other accompanying processes.

“The court ruled in favour of ASUU that the motion was not meritorious, dismissed the motion and the Court adjourned for hearing. In the wisdom of the Court, accelerated hearing was granted because the same issues pleaded in the Motion for interlocutory injunction where the same issues pleaded in the substantive suit.

Igwenyi noted that It was important to inform public that Oct. 22 was the day both parties argued the motion, not for ruling.


"The premature release of selective or incomplete information can create unnecessary tension in the system," he said.

He Reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and stressed that responsible communication is essential.

"The hallmark of struggle is securing the confidence of the system and the best possible outcome for our members.

"Premature or selective publication of preemptive and inconclusive process can distort public understanding, weaken our bargaining position, and ultimately create confusion,” said Igwenyi.


He assured that ASUU will always speak openly to the Nigerian public but official updates must come through the Union’s leadership, not through unauthorized channels that may misrepresent the facts or derail ongoing efforts to stabilize the Branches.

"The Union urged the public, stakeholders, and media professionals to exercise restraint and avoid amplifying unverified information to avoid quoting Court proceedings wrongly," the Coordinator added.

Local government teachers under the supervision of the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) have protested over what they described as ill treatment meted out to them by their various council chairmen in the state, particularly in the area of welfare.

The protesters, under an umbrella body of the concerned local government teachers who made a passionate appeal to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's government to intervene and ensure that their welfare is attended to and their entitlement given to them, regretted that the situation has affected their motivation to work.

Leader of the protest, Mr Ottah Ibiam, a grade level 13 civil servant at the Ebunwana Model Girls Secondary School in the Edda Local Government Area of the state, told newsmen that none of the financial commitments of the current administration have been given to them, whereas their counterparts in the Secondary Education Board (SUBEB) have received them.

"The way they have been denying us the state's allowances and denying the teachers, the primary and junior secondary school teachers in the state, has necessitated the protest. The issue is that it has not been motivating us to do our work the way it should be.

"And those that they are paying are not even coming to school, but it is not our concern; our concern is just for them to be giving us our entitlement. Likewise, the Christmas bonus of N150,000 in 2024 was denied to us.

"The promotion areas from 2024 were denied to us. The May Day, Labour Day, for which they paid 10,000 naira, was denied to us. Now, the increment, the 20,000 Naira increment – Governor Nwifuru said that he's going to pay a 90,000 Naira national minimum wage, but our own became 70,000 Naira.

"While others that we are staying within the school environment have been receiving. Secondary education board teachers that were in the same field, the same office, the same school environments and the same staff room stay together; they are giving them their own entitlement.

"We, they'll be denying us; the Governor has now said that he's going to pay 200,000 to 350,000 naira for a Christmas bonus for this year. Let them not deny it from us again," Ibiam said.

Ibiam, who told newsmen that their complaint to the state commissioner for education has not received a satisfactory response, pleaded with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's government to listen to their plight and pay as they have been paying other state workers.

When contacted in an interview at his office, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ebonyi State chapter, Mr Ekechi Francis Okorie, confirmed their claims as truth, saying that the leadership of the union has been on top of the situation and assured that the issues would be resolved.

"That is true; you see, the situation is that. Last time, the state government, I think it's pronounced, gave the local government employees, the teachers, a bonus of 75,000 Naira. And some local governments – I think it was just about three local governments that completed paying that money. Ten local governments have not paid that money completely. Some teachers did not get that money.

"So when teachers complained, I kept on trying to calm them down, saying that I'm already on that matter. Then I have to ask my branch chairman to collect names of those that have not been paid or which I've submitted to the Commissioner for Education through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, so that they are going to make sure that the governor pays that money to those teachers; that is the bonus.

"Then coming to this issue of an additional N20,000 minimum wage, that is making it N90,000. The Governor, His Excellency, the Rt Honourable Builder Francis Ogbuna Nwifuru, said that the payment will start from September. Then SUBEB was paid.

"When I met with Ubeb, Ubeb said that they will start payment by October. Reaching October, they were not forthcoming. I was very surprised. I met with them again. First of all, I met with Jack. Jack told me that they were paying gratuity and there was no money anywhere. I had to report the matter to NLC. So from there, NSE immediately convened a meeting on the 6th of this month.

"The whole of the NLC affiliate was there. So from there they issued out a communique to governments directing them to pay that money on or before the 27th of November, which we are still on." Okorie explained.

The current situation affecting the welfare of the UBEB teachers in the state, which has unarguably affected their performance, as narrated by Mr Ibiam, is capable of deteriorating the already crippled education sector in the state if the government chooses to give deaf ears to their plight, as they said in one of their slogans, "If you can write your name, thank your teacher."

Ebonyi

Labour Party (LP) chieftain and former House of Representatives candidate, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, alleging persistent death threats from individuals he describes as “political enforcers” operating in Ebonyi State.


Ezeh, who contested for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 elections, claims the threats were issued in response to his public commentary on governance and political developments in the state.


The suit, filed under No. CV/4130/25, lists two individuals including Felix Okemini (a.k.a. Jango) and Sunday Ogbonnia (a.k.a. Bakassi) as respondents.

The Inspector-General of Police is also joined in the action to ensure law-enforcement oversight and enforcement of any orders the court may grant.


Invoking Sections 33, 38, 39, and 41 of the 1999 Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Ezeh is seeking a judicial declaration that the alleged threats amount to unlawful violations of his rights to life, liberty, freedom of thought, expression, and dignity.


In his supporting affidavit, he states that the threats have made it “impossible to live freely without fear of being harmed,” insisting that court intervention is necessary to “affirm the sanctity” of his fundamental freedoms.

In a statement, Ezeh said he opted for legal redress rather than confrontation.

“I refuse to be dragged into the gutters. We are a country governed by laws, and I have chosen the legal path rather than succumb to intimidation.

"No man will stand idle while his life and that of his family are threatened,” he said.


Drawing on Homeric imagery, he compared the alleged attacks to the dishonour King Odysseus faced on his return home, saying his critics hoped he would “run and never return.”


Ezeh disclosed that efforts to resolve the dispute amicably collapsed “under painful circumstances,” forcing him to seek judicial protection.

He insisted that the threats escalate whenever he comments publicly on governance issues in Ebonyi State, a pattern he believes is politically motivated.


He said a date is yet to be fixed for the hearing of the originating motion, though his legal team is seeking urgent protective orders to restrain the respondents from further harassment or interference.


As of press time, neither law-enforcement authorities nor the accused individuals have issued public statements addressing the allegations.

Ebonyi:

The Leader of the Onicha Legislative Council and Councillor representing Agbabor Ward in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State,Rt. Hon. Anayo Kingsley Simon has debunked reports circulating on social media & that formed a news headline on EBBC few days ago alleging that he has been impeached from his position.

In an exclusive reaction,Rt. Hon. Anayo said he was neither aware of any impeachment notice nor had any formal process been initiated against him as required under Nigeria’s democratic system.

“I am not aware of any impeachment proceeding on or before now,” he stated. “I only read on social media & heard on the news of the above mentioned radio station about such a purported impeachment against my person and office. This is a democratic setting, and there are procedures for such acts if they must hold water.”

He explained that no impeachment notice had been served on him, neither had any investigative panel been constituted nor any formal sitting held to consider an impeachment motion.

“As the leader of the council, I am the one to convene a sitting. If there were genuine grounds for impeachment, a colleague would raise a motion, it would be deliberated upon, and if the majority agrees, then it can stand. But nothing of such has ever happened,” he said.

Responding to questions on whether he may have fallen out with influential political actors, Rt.Hon. Anayo maintained that he has no issues with the state leadership or the local government chairman.

“I don’t have any issue with the powers that be. I have confidence in the government of Ebonyi State, ably led by His Excellency, the Right Honourable Builder Prince Ogbonna Francis Nwifuru. I believe strongly in his People’s Charter of Needs mantra,” he affirmed.

He added that he has been fully supportive of the administration of the Onicha Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia.

“For allI know, I don’t have any problem with my chairman. If there is any purported move to impeach me, I would say it is likely an act of betrayal from my colleagues which i know can not stand under the current state leadership that so much believes in the rule of laws, and as such does not and will never condone any act of illegality,"he said.

According to Rt.Hon. Anayo, the only recent disagreement within the council was a collective call he and other councillors made to stakeholders of the local government, urging that more development projects be executed across all wards.

“The last time my colleagues and I raised concerns, it was simply to draw attention to the need for more projects to be executed in our various wards,in the interest of our dear party and the people which was borne out of the zeal to ensure that the people's charter of needs mantra of our dear humanitarian & people's friendly governor is extended to all nooks and crannies of the state in the interest of our party, and our constituents, which i believe is our primary constitutional responsibility as ward councillors. When you love a leader, you align with his vision,” he stated.

Rt.Hon. Anayo reiterated his unalloyed loyalty to the state government and the ruling party’s agenda, stressing that any actions he takes are for the overall good of his constituents, his local government and the state at large.

He enjoined all well meaning Ebonyians and residents to avoid acts capable of causing chaos and destabilising the relative peace being enjoyed in the state today, courtesy of the governor,who he described as, "an angel in human form", while also calling on the media to always verify the authencity of their news to avoiding misleading the public & tarnishing people's reputation unjustly.

He also seized the opportunity to appreciate the good people of Onicha Local Government for their unwavering supports to his leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Onicha local government remains the beautiful bride among all Ebonyi local government areas.

As at press time, no official statement has been issued by the Onicha Legislative Council or the local government authorities regarding the circulating impeachment claims.

Tension is rising in the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency as Labour Party House of Representatives candidate, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has issued a forceful public warning to Hon. Comrade Chinedu Ogah, alleging persistent interference in the political affairs of Izhiland.

In a briefing with journalists in Abakaliki, Dr. Ezeh accused the lawmaker who currently represents Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of overreaching his mandate and “deliberately fanning the embers of crisis” in a constituency he does not represent.


The latest provocation, according to Ezeh, is Ogah’s alleged involvement in securing bail for two men who were earlier arrested for allegedly issuing threats to his life.

While the details of the case remain under police investigation, Ezeh said the development was “deeply suspicious and politically motivated.”

“This is not the first time Hon. Ogah has inserted himself into matters that concern only the Izhi people,” Ezeh stated solemnly.

“Why is it always him whenever harm is plotted against me? Why does he meddle in Izhi politics and sow crisis in Izhiland?”


Witnesses at the briefing described Ezeh as visibly upset, his voice rising at intervals as he recounted what he called a “pattern of interference” that has allegedly destabilized political engagements in the constituency.

He insisted that Ogah’s actions have created unnecessary tension among stakeholders and disrupted ongoing reconciliation efforts within Izhi communities.

Ezeh further alleged that the intervention by Ogah amounts to obstruction of justice, claiming that the bail secured for the two suspects could compromise the ongoing investigation.

Though he provided no documentary evidence during the briefing, he maintained that Ogah’s involvement was inappropriate for a lawmaker outside the constituency.


The Labour Party Chieftain announced his intention to take the matter before the Speaker of the House of Representatives, where he plans to submit a formal petition accusing Ogah of abuse of privilege and deliberate interference in a constituency matter.

“No National Assembly member is above the law. If Hon. Ogah believes he can use his office to shield suspects or intimidate political opponents, he will soon discover that our democracy has checks and consequences," he declared.

Political analysts in Ebonyi say the clash reflects the deepening rivalry and shifting power blocs as the 2027 elections approach. While Hon. Ogah has not publicly responded to the allegations, his associates insist the lawmaker only intervened in the matter on humanitarian grounds and deny any political motive.


As the political temperature continues to rise, residents of Abakaliki/Izzi are urging both leaders to embrace dialogue and allow security agencies to conclude their investigations without interference.

Enugu council boss resolves 1941 land dispute between Aku/Ikolo communities


Dr Eric Odo, Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu state has officially inaugurated the demarcation of the Aku/Ikolo boundary to end long-standing land dispute between the two communities.

Odo during the programme in Ogbede on Friday, revealed that the land dispute that started since 1941 had destroyed several lives and properties.

The council Boss expressed optimism that the demarcation of the land by his administration had resolved the issue between the two communities amicably.

He maintained that the resolution was in fulfilment of his campaign promise to restore peace and unity in the communities, saying it would permanently end the crisis that had caused psychological and economic hardship to the people.

Odo commended Gov Peter Mbah and his deputy Chief Ifeanyi Ossai for providing the enabling environment for peace to return to the two communities.

Meanwhile, traditional rulers, presidents-general, and councillors from both communities pledged their commitment to a lasting peace and coexistence.

Community leaders and residents of both Aku and Ikolo hailed Odo’s intervention as a historic step that would guarantee safety of lives and property in the areas.

In a dramatic turn of events, two members of a self-styled group known as the “@FON Attack Dogs” Sunday Ogbonnia (aka Bakassi) and Felix Okemini (aka Jango) widely believed to be loyalists of Governor Francis Nwifuru and reportedly composed largely of individuals from his Izhi clan, have been summoned to the Force Headquarters.

The duo were summoned following a series of public petitions and grave allegations.

Members of the group widely accused in the media of engaging in cult-related and violent activities, recently drew widespread condemnation after allegedly threatening one of Ebonyi State’s most prominent entrepreneurs, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh.

The threats, the duo claimed followed Ezeh’s refusal to accept what many described as an ill-timed and ill-intentioned government appointment.

In a public statement, the group is said to have declared Ezeh persona non grata, sparking outrage across the state.

This latest move by security agencies has fueled speculation that authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks and hold their enablers accountable, particularly in the South East region of Nigeria.

Ezeh, who has faced repeated threats, has consistently maintained that the group operates under the encouragement of higher political powers.

Emerging reports suggest that Two serving HOR politicians may be among the hidden enablers, allegedly leveraging their influence to shield the self-acclaimed “attack dogs” from accountability.

The unfolding investigation marks a significant moment in the fight against criminality in Ebonyi State and the broader South East, raising hopes that entrenched networks of violence and intimidation may finally be confronted.

The people of Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have supported the acquisition of more lands for the expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Science(DUFUHS) in the community.



In a communiqué signed by leaders of the host community, HRH Lazarus Umahi, Chief Shedrack Onu and Chief Odi Nicholas Enyi, the community said the expansion of the university was a collective agreement of the host community which was endorsed by the Uburu traditional rulers council.



The community absolved the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi of land grabbing in the expansion process and dismissed a petition against him by some persons in the area.



The leaders described the use of the community name in the petition by the petitioners as totally unacceptable and warned against further use of Uburu name by the petitioners who they said never mean well for the progress of the area.



"The expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHSU), is a collective initiative of Ndi Uburu, conceived and endorsed by the Uburu Traditional Council, The council, chaired by HRH Eze (Dr.) Lazarus Umahi Nweze, declared that Sen. Umahi is hereby fully exonerated of all allegations regarding the land processes.



"The expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHSU), is a collective initiative of Ndi Uburu, conceived and endorsed by the Uburu Traditional Council, The council, chaired by HRH Eze (Dr.) Lazarus Umahi Nweze, declared that Sen. Umahi is hereby fully exonerated of all allegations regarding the land processes.



“The DUFUHSU land expansion committee, tasked with overseeing the land acquisition, provided a detailed rejoinder to set the record straight.



“The committee, led by Coordinator Dr. Umezurike Daniel and Secretary Mr. Odi Nicholas Enyi, explained that the university's governing council had formally requested additional land for expansion, as the institution currently occupies less than 20 hectares.



“The committee outlined its transparent and inclusive terms of reference, which included:conducting community-wide awareness, identifying and engaging affected landowners, obtaining consent and signatures from all affected families,facilitating compensation for every verified landowner.



"All these steps were duly followed, The Committee's work covered 29 identified landowners, all of whom received compensation and gave written consent..At no point did Sen. David Umahi or any government official engage in land grabbing, intimidation, or threat to life."



"We vehemently condemn the actions of a few individuals who seek to exploit the name of Umuchima village to foment division and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Sen. David Umahi."



“All community groups affirmed their total support for the DUFUHSU expansion. It as a vital community project that has brought pride, jobs, and sustainable progress.”, the community stated.
