Chief Obeji Linus Nkwuda has been reelected to serve for another 3 years tenure as the chairman of the Abakaliki Rice Mill industry in a peaceful election conducted at the Mill company.

Obeji Linus, Who stood unopposed during the election Reemereged as the chairman with a total vote of 215 as the members Affirmed maximum support for his second tenure.

In his acceptance speech he thanked governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for restoring peace to rice mill industry by ensuring that the company's constitutions are maintained, saying he is emulating the governors gesture of peace building.

"I've only exploited the grace of His Excellency, the governor of Ebonyi state, who is the builder of our people, including me, the trade mark of Ebonyi state government since inception is peace, and we have emulated that, since he came, we have changed the narratives from leadership to friendship" Obeji said.

He appreciated the mill owners for their massive support and pledged to serve selflessly in accordance with the company's Constitution as well as carry everyone along, including the former chairmen and patrons.

Chief Jerry Oduma, the election chairman thanked all the rice mill owners for their support towards ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election and charged the leadership to operate an open door policy where everyone would be carried along.

Meanwhile, Eye witness reports noted that Hon. Joseph Ununu, the member representing Abakaliki South constituency at the Ebonyi state House of Assembly and a former chairman of the mill company had earlier endorsed the new leadership and urged them to continue to work according to the established constitution of the company.

Appreciating the peaceful conduct of the election, His Royal Highness, Sunday Nkwegu Oketa, the Onouha 3 of Nkaleke autonomous community, thanked governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for ensuring that peace has returned to the mill company and described the election as free and fair.

Former Rice mill chairman who served from 2005 to 2012. Hon Nwibo Vincent Mbam has described the outcome of the election as entirely peaceful, saying that Abakaliki rice mill is returning to its past glory.

"The era of conducting the election at the stadium is gone, and I can say that the chairman, Linus Obeji is emulating the governor of Ebonyi state in terms of peace.", Mbam noted.

Prince Friday Oketa, who is the serving coordinator of the Echiaba Development Centre in the Ebonyi Local Government area of the state, thanked Governor Nwifuru for allowing the mill owners to work with their constitution and commended the members for the peaceful conduct of the election.

A University Lecturer in Enugu, Prof Uchenna Ezemagu on Thursday arraigned before an Enugu North Magistrate's court over alleged threat to life, malicious damage.

The matter is between the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The defendant is facing count charge bothering on criminal conspiracy, malicious damage and threat to life.

He was also accused of spreading false information against Chief Christopher Okwor, Traditional Ruler of Ihekwuenu Autonomous community in Aku in the area.

Our correspondent recalls that Okwor was in 2024 accused of kidnapping and deliberately demolishing a blind man’s house, allegations that he had denied.

Speaking with journalists after the court sitting, Counsel to the traditional rules Mr Jerry Iheanacho, said the traditional ruler had been vindicated by the outcome of the police investigation.

"Yes, Enugu state government suspended my client because of the case that he demolished a house been built for a blind man and he is a kidnapper, a gun-runner and an armed robber.

”The police, in their wisdom, investigated the matter and those who made the allegation were arraigned in the court for giving false information to the police.

“And that is a vindication of our client that he was never an armed robber, a gun-runner or kidnapper, and he never demolished anybody’s house.

“We are happy and insist that justice must be served on those who have gone against the law by making false allegation against our client.

“We will take it up for the government to do the needful since the outcome of the investigation have vindicated him,” the counsel said.

Also reacting, the traditional ruler, Okwor said his problem with Ezemagu family began after he won the traditional stool of Ihekwuenu Autonomous community, which the defendant vied with him.

"Since then, instead of accepting defeat like other contestant, the lecturer and his family members vowed to make the community ungovernable for me.

'Ezemagu family started causing trouble by planning to takeover landed property belonging to Isife family, a plan he scuttled and even tried to reconcile the Ezemagu and Isife families.

"This is what made him to arrange with his friend working with the Anti-kidnapping unit of the Nigeria Police Force, who arrested me for kidnapping.

"I thanked the IGP for declaring him innocent of the malicious allegation level against him Prof. Ezemagu and his family," Okwor added.

Ishielu LG Boss Lauds Tinubu,Nwifuru, Umahi for Flag-off of 118.85km Super Highway

The Ishielu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Peace Ifeoma Agwu, has expressed her support and appreciation for the recent flag-off of the 118.85 kilometer of Calabar-Ebonyi- Benue-Nasarawa- Abuja super highway.

The ceremony, which took place in Afikpo, was graced by the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Eternal Brothers Club has honoured the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Member representing Abakaliki/ Izzi Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Chief Emmanuel Uguru, among 15 other individuals who have distinguished themselves in various spheres of life, with meaningful contribution to the society.

Council Chairman,Agwu Inspects Nwifuru's Road Projects in Ishielu, Commissions Hand Pump Borehole

Ishielu Local Government Area has recently witnessed a significant development as the Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Peace Ifeoma Agwu, carried out an inspection of ongoing road projects initiated by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

Mrs Agwu was accompanied by the stakeholders and enthusiastic youths, Mrs. Agwu expressed her appreciation for the quality and speed of the projects, which are set to enhance mobility in her local Government.

During the inspection, Mrs. Agwu commissioned a hand pump borehole in Ishielu village, marking a step forward in providing essential resources to the community.

She took the opportunity to highlight the initiation of the 3.5km Obuchiri road, designed to link Nkalagu and other areas. She emphasized that this transformative project is part of Governor Nwifuru's commitment to improving infrastructure and overall living conditions in Ishielu LGA.

"The commencement of these projects is a clear indication that Governor Nwifuru is dedicated to transforming our area," Mrs. Agwu stated.

The Ishielu council boss commended the governor's pragmatic leadership and noted that his road projects, constructed using rigid concrete pavement, exemplify the quality of work being delivered under his administration.

Land Dispute: Police threaten to deploy personnel to Ebonyi waring communities


The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Ebonyi has threatened to invade the two waring communities in the state, Amasiri and Osso-Edda, urging them to steer clear of violence and embrace peace.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya in a Peace-Talk with the two communities on Friday in Abakaliki gave the advice.

Uche-Anya decried the incessant maiming, killings of persons and arson among the residents.

It would be recalled that the communities, Ndukwe, Amasiri in Afikpo local government area and Okporojo, Osso in Edda local government area have been in a war over a piece of land.

The State Governor, Francis Nwifuru had sometime in February 2025, declared the disputed land a buffer zone.

The Police Commissioner noted that the determininant of who owns a land could not be achievable by war or killings.

"How do you know that the land belong to A or B. Do not allow me to issue an order through our personnel.

"I must tell you, the only friend I will have are those that are helping me to ensure peace and order in the state.

"We cannot allow this killings and destruction of lives and property to continue. I am sounding a note of warning to everyone involved in the areas.

"I cannot fold my hands to allow lawless people to keep killing innocet people. People will suffer to build houses and another person will come and destroy them.

"No body have the right to take anyone's live. Tell your people to steer clear of the buffer zone. Stay out of trouble because killing cannot bring peace.

"Nobody have monopoly of violence and killing. All the machineries in your area must vacate for peace to regain.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mr Solomon Akika also urged the residents in the waring communities to obey the government buffer zone oredr.

"Stop taking the law into your hand and allow people to have their good sleep," he added.

Mr Nkama Okoro, President General of Idima. Edda Community, said that recently, the crisis has claimed over six lives including pregnant women and property worth millions have been destroyed.

"I am appealing to Governor Francis Nwifuru to intervene in order to prevent further killings," Okoro pleaded.

Mr Uche Onyia, stakeholders from Amasiri expressed worry as the killing, which became obvious since 2023 in the area has becomes a reoccurring decimal.

Onyia noted that the people were ready to embrace peace and condemned the loss of lives occasioned by the disputed land.

"Nobody like war and it does not bring food to ones table. We need peace to regain because we are brothers. We are suprise that the problem erupted since 2023," he added.

Prof Amari Omaka, Commissioner for Tertiary Education welcomed the police idea to deploy its officers and men to the area.

"Yes, I support the police to give directive and tell our people that enough is enough. Killing will not help us, but rather more heads will continue to roll," Omaka stressed.

Mr Timothy Nwachi, Afikpo Local Government Chairman, agreed that his people want peace and called for the need to chase war machineries away from the communities.

"We must tell the strangers on our land to to leave our community. No body want to die. We support the police order in the efforts to achieve the lasting peace," Nwachi added.

The Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area Chairman of Enugu State, Dr. Eric Odo, has lauded Governor Peter Mbah for his developmental strides in Enugu North senatorial zone.

This is as he assured the governor of Nsukka peoples’ continued support and loyalty to his government.

Odo stated this on Friday during an event tagged “Vote of Gratitude” organised by Coalition of Progress, Enugu North Senatorial Zone Branch at the Adada House in Nsukka.

The Igbo-Etiti council boss said Gov. Mbah had greatly favoured the zone despite not receiving enough votes from them in the last general election and promised that the mistake would be corrected in the 2027 election.

According to him, the Nsukka senatorial zone is the greatest beneficiary of the ongoing infrastructural projects in the state, which include Smart schools, Type-III Primary Health Centres, Farm Estates, the dualisation of Enugu – Ugwuogo – Opi road, construction of major bus terminals and so many road projects.

“For us in Nsukka zone, despite our shortcomings in the election the governor has decided on own to favour this zone better than every other zones.

“So, we have every reason to say thank you, we have every reason to say well done.

“We have every reason to say that wherever the governor is we are and we are not only looking at 2027, we are not only looking at 2031, wherever Dr. Mbah is, is where we are,” Odo declared.

On his part, the Coordinator, Coalition of Progress Enugu North Senatorial Zone Branch, Chinedu Onu, said the event was to appreciate the governor for carrying Nsukka zone along in his administration.

Onu noted that the coalition is made up of individuals and organisations, who are happy with Governor Mbah’s performance, which according to him is unprecedented in the history of Enugu State.

Also, the council chairman of Nsukka LGA Mr Jude Asogwa, said the governor had outperformed beyond the expectation of the people.

According to Asogwa, the six council chairmen in zone are strongly behind Mbah’s administration.

The event was attended by many dignitaries mostly from the senatorial zone.

THE CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF NAUTH DESCRIBED AS THE IMAGE SETTER OF THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH & SOCIAL WELFARE.

The Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate (CON), has described Professor Joseph Ugboaja (OON), the Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, as the image setter of the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare. He made this statement during the opening ceremony of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) & Medical Directors of Federal Medical Hospitals in Nigeria (CCMDFTH), which was held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the permanent site of the hospital.

The Minister, represented by Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen (mni), the Director of Hospital Service of the Ministry, praised the CMD for projecting the Ministry’s image effectively. He commended the hospital for implementing the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, a key initiative being promoted by the Ministry of Health in all tertiary institutions. He further emphasized that public perception of federal hospitals is changing for the better, and the Presidency is pleased that federal hospitals are at the forefront of this transformation.

The Chairman of the Committee (CCMDFTH) Professor Emem Bassy, also praised the collaboration among the hospital management team, calling it exemplary and a model for the hospital’s success. He noted that the planning and structure for the 109th CCMDFTH meeting by NAUTH was the most successful so far under his Chairmanship.

He further commended the CMD for continuing the vision of his predecessors in developing the hospital, and ensuring that its practices align with international best practices and the Ministry of Health vision.

According to him, the meeting would also provide an opportunity for members to learn from the leadership qualities of the CMD during the peer review process and to replicate same in their respective institutions to achieve similar success.

In his welcome address, the Chief Medical Director highlighted the recent strides the hospital has made in reaching this milestone and its plans to specialize in areas such as Critical Care/Emergency Cases, Mother and Child Health, Minimal Access Surgery etc. He also announced that NAUTH has secured a professional accreditation from the West African College of Surgeons to run a Post-graduate Studies on Minimal Access Surgery - particularly Gynae Endoscopy, making it the only tertrary institution in the West Africa to secure such accreditation.

Finally, he warmly welcomed the members to Nnewi and informed them of plans to visit the hospital's major stakeholders in the city for potential collaborations and partnerships.

A Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has affirmed Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, as the substantive National Vice Chairman (NVC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-East zone..

This decision follows Egwu's nomination by South-East stakeholders to replace the expelled former National Vice Chairman Chief Ali Odefa.

Presiding over Suit No: FHC/AI/CS/229/2024, filed by Hon. Egwu (plaintiff) Vs Hon Umar M. Bature (National Organising Secretary, PDP), Chief Ali Odefa, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (defendants), Justice Hilary Oshomah referenced the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and a prior judgment (Suit No: FHC/AI/CS/182/2024) that upheld Odefa's suspension and subsequent expulsion by the Oguduokwor Ward Executive Committee due to ant-party activities among several others.

The court concluded that the NVC position was vacant prior to Egwu's nomination, legitimizing his appointment to serve the remainder of Odefa's term.

Furthermore, the court mandated the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to recognize Hon. Egwu in his capacity as the substantive NVC for the Southeast zone,

The court ruled that Hon Chidiebere Agwu should be allowed to carry out his duties in accordance with the party's guidelines and principles, and should maintain this role until a new zonal congress convenes to elect a fresh executive committee.

BREAKING: FHC Affirms Chidiebere Egwu as PDP Zonal Chairman for Southeast

A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi capital has affirmed Chidiebere Egwu as the substantive National Vice Chairman (NVC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Southeast zone.

This was following his nomination by the Southeast stakeholders of the party as replacement for the expelled former Southeast NVC, Chief Ali Odefa.

Justice Hilary Oshomah delivered the judgement on Thursday in suit No: FHC/AI/CS/229/2024 filed by Egwu (plaintiff) Vs Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (defendants).

Oshomah held that by the combined provisions of Article 45, 47(6), 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution (as amended, 2017) as well as the subsisting judgement of the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/Ai/CS/182/2024 which affirmed the suspension of the 1st Defendant (Chief Ali Odefa) from the PDP and subsequent expulsion from the party by the Executive Committee of the PDP Oguduokwor Ward, the office of the National Vice Chairman Southeast was vacant before the nomination of the Plaintiff to replace the 1st Defendant and complete the unexpired tenure of the 1st Defendant as the National Vice Chairman of the PDP Southeast Zone.

The Court also ordered the 2nd Defendant (PDP), and 3rd Defendant (INEC) to recognise Hon. Egwu to carry out his duties as the substantive National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Southeast zone.

"With the ruling of the court, Egwu remains the National Vice Chairman of the PDP in the Southeast until a fresh zonal congress is held to elect new zonal executive committee of the party," the ruled.

COMMENTARY:THE VISIT OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT TO NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, NNEWI


His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will visit Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, on Thursday, April 10, 2025*, to commemorate the hospital's 2nd anniversary of relocating to its permanent site. The visit will also mark the commissioning of key projects executed under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Joseph Ugboaja (OON), including the grand-opening of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, an impressive facility supported by the Presidency. This will also be the first time a sitting Mr. President will be visiting the hospital.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says that its civil defence community initiative has made tremendous impact on Ebonyi populace with just months of existence.

The State Commandant of the corps, Francis Nnadi made the assertion in Abakaliki while conferring a Qatar- based Business Mogul, Chief Sunny Ogbonnia as the community's patron.

Nnadi said that the community has come to stay in the state as testimonies of its positive impact abound.

"This is a grassroot -oriented initiative that affords the populace, unhindered access to security.

"The initiative conforms with our. motto of defending the defenceless while also, giving voice to the voiceless.

"The community propagates the message that security is for everybody and not only for the rich and mighty,".

He noted that people were free to join the community to contribute in overall protection of lives and properties.

....EFCC, ICPC, CCB should rescue Ebonyi public resources from rapacious government officials


Recent developments in Ebonyi State has become worrisome to the point that all Ebonyians must now come together to save the state from ruin.

Mazi Moses Idika, PDP Chieftain expressed worry over the activities of the state government contractors in a statement he issued on Friday.

According to Idika, the revelation from the Government House Abakaliki on Tuesday April 1, 2025 over the purported arrest of six commissioners of Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru is an unfortunate eye-opener on why the state has suddenly regressed into the abyss of stagnation in the last two years.

On Tuesday April 1, many Ebonyians felt that it was a government sponsored “April Fool” prank when news filtered into town that six commissioners, including, The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma.

"Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education), Hon. Victor Chukwu (Environment), Engr. Ogbonnaya Igboke (Project Monitoring), Mr. Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism) and Mr. Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs). Also indicted was Mr. Timothy Nwachi, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area who was said to have been suspended.

"Though the state government through the Commissioner for Border Peace and Internal Security, Mr. Donatus Ilang has been speaking from all corners denying the arrest of the commissioners, the government has not denied the fact that , against all known laws of procurement, public decency and ethical conduct of public officials, the Government of Ebonyi State has through the backdoor awarded government contracts to government officials and cronies.

The above scenario is a direct affront on the Ebonyi State Public Procurement and Related Matters Law No. 016 of 2020 which expressly provides bars public official from engaging in such procurement processes as it poses serious conflict of interest and predisposes such public officials to engaging corrupt practices.

The law in section Section 68 subsection 1-13 clearly bars public officials including commissioners from such acts.
Similar laws applies to cabinet members as well as other government functionaries in all the states of the federation and at the federal level.

Based on the foregoing, it has become imperative to invite, not just security agencies, but anti-graft agencies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Tribunal (ICPC) to immediately take in the indicted commissioners and also fish out other government officials that may be involved in similar contract racketeering and flagrant violation of Ebonyi State procurement laws.
It is also instructive that we remind Ebonyi State Government led by Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru that governance should not be turned to a bazaar to settle political acolytes, family members and cronies.

The National President of the kingdom, Hon. Chika Nwangele (Asaa) said during the Lavish Ceremony held at the Oganiru ground on Sunday, that Ife Mmaku was being honoured for his distinguished and immeasurable contributions to the growth and development of the area.

There are 24 members in Ebonyi State House of Assembly (EBHA), who were duly elected by the people to represent their interest and make relevant laws within their power, we have been calling on them to come to our aid through law making to regulate the ever increasing and uncontrollable house rent/ increment in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State by landlords and it’s agents.


“Does it mean that it has not come to their notice that the indigenous people of Abakaliki are passing through hell as a result of high increment in house rent and agent commission in Abakaliki”.?

In Abakaliki today, one room self contain is placed at #350,000, two rooms and parlor at #800,000 while three rooms and parlor at #1.3m and above depending on location.

Most often, agents who saw this as dependable and lucrative business opportunity will pay off landlords upon completion of a building, and or having understanding with the landlord and place the property at (×2) of the rent payable.

It’s within the jurisdiction of Ebonyi State House of Assembly (EBHA) to make law on the subject matter referred to.

Enugu State House of Assembly recently made law in that regard to ease suffering from their people and also have uniform and or standard of house rent in Enugu State.

Even if it’s the only law they will make for the interest of the people of Abakaliki, we are okay.

An average person occupant in Abakaliki cannot make savings at the end of paying house rent and EEDC bill, we are indirectly working for landlords and EEDC.

We call on the Hon. Speaker EBHA and other Hon members to step up and act for the public interest.

Mose of these house were built within 1980’s, 1990’s and early 2000.

Landlords now pads house rent, at about #200,000 at a time in the name of house increment, my landlord added #180,000 as at this month while some increase annually.

Ebonyi/C'River Boundary Clash: Warring Communities Set For Return To Home

The people of Iphuigwe in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Ukele in yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, who hitherto engaged in a boundary clash, have resolved to give peace a chance and expressed willingness to allow displaced persons to return to their homes.

This decision was made in a peace negotiation with stakeholders of both communities, held in Ukule, in the yala local government area of Cross River State, and championed by the Ebonyi/Cross River Youth Peace Development Movement, our correspondent gathered.

According to reports, both clans have lived peacefully for ages and shared common values in farming, schools, and ceremonies, as well as being said to be friends who intermarry, until the outbreak of the crisis due to obvious disagreements.

The President of the Ebonyi Cross River Youth Peace Development Movement, Barrister Pascal Nwenyi, while commending the people for resolving to live peacefully as they did before 2005 when the crisis broke out, observed that there has been relative peace among them and hence the need to return to the status quo.

He appealed to the two local government chairmen to prioritise the security of the lives of their people, urging them to step in to aid development in the communities, particularly in terms of mechanised agriculture, which would improve economic activities as peace has returned to the area.

Lending his voice, His Royal Highness, Eze Clement Eze, Eze Udo 1 of the Iphuigwe autonomous community, expressed gladness over the development and commended the Ukele people for accepting the Izzi back to their settlement and re-emphasised the importance of peace for the development of the people, among other things.

Chief Fidelis Ebi, a Ukele man who noted that both clans have lived peacefully for ages, regretted the prolonged crisis, saying that he is confident of the return to status quo in unity and peace, urging the people to embrace it.

Meanwhile, the President General of the Iphuigwe community, Comrade Obeji Linus, who doubles as the chairman of the Abakaliki Rice Mill Industry, has noted that the peace agreement has been his priority ever since he assumed the office of PG and commended the people for agreeing to give peace a chance while urging them to abide by the terms of the agreement.

"We have agreed to settle for peace; if an Izzi person erred, the Izzi people should bring the person to book, and likewise for the Ukele people. All we are resolute about is that peace should return so long as the two communities have agreed," he said.

However, at the end of the meeting, letters were signed by both community stakeholders which will be distributed to both local government chairmen to attend another meeting, scheduled to be held on the 17th of April 2025 at Mfuma, the crisis area, as a display of their sincere resolution to live peacefully.

In a passionate defense of their representative, the Ebonyi North Youths Stakeholders Forum, led by Comrade Chijioke Njoku, has condemned the recent verbal attack directed at Senator Peter Nwebonyi Onyekachi by former Minister, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili.

The statement, released yesterday, called on Mrs. Ezekwesili to apologize for her remarks, which they characterized as a public insult to the senator.

According to Comrade Njoku, Senator Nwebonyi has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to his constituents in less than three years in office.

"Senator Nwebonyi has empowered countless individuals in our community through his initiatives in agriculture, human capital development, and overall empowerment programs," Njoku stated.

The forum expressed concern that Ezekwesili's comments not only undermined the senator's efforts but also sought to disgrace an Ebonyi son who has been dedicated to bettering the lives of the people in his senatorial zone. The group emphasized that such attacks are detrimental to the collective progress of the region and urged for unity among leaders and constituents in moving forward.

The Ebonyi North Youths Forum reaffirmed their support for Senator Nwebonyi, highlighting his accomplishments and calling for a respectful dialogue among political leaders. They reiterated their stance that constructive criticism is vital for democracy, but personal attacks and character assassination have no place in political discourse.

As the situation develops, the forum hopes that a spirit of cooperation will prevail, fostering an environment conducive to development and progress for all residents of Ebonyi North.

According to Section 34(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999, as amended, every citizen has the right to dignity of the human person, which includes the right to be free from torture or inhuman treatment.

However, this was not the case for Prince (Hon) Darlington Peter Onwe, the Executive Director, IGHUSUF Africa, who was allegedly dehumanised and assaulted unprovoked by a group of thugs alleged to be loyal to one Mr Chikaodiri Ojemba, the Chairman of the Consolidated Ebonyi Quarry Owners Association.

Consequently, Prince (Hon) Darlington Onwe has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the Department of State Security (DSS), relevant stakeholders and the Ebonyi state government to intervene and demand that justice be served.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the state capital: "Being a press conference statement by Prince (Hon) Darlington Peter Onwe, the Executive Director, IGHUSUF Africa, on a case of unprovoked assault, violation of fundamental human rights, and unlawful use of agents of government by Mr Chikaodiri Ojemba."

In his words:

"I stand before you today with a heavy heart, seeking justice and the truth. I come before you not as a mere individual but as a citizen of this great nation, Nigeria, and Ebonyi State, who has been subjected to unimaginable cruelty, assault, false accusations, defamation of character and severe injustice.

"On Friday the 21st, Day of March 2025, I was physically assaulted and dehumanised by a group of over fifteen individuals, including thugs allegedly hired by Mr Chikaodiri Ojemba, the Chairman of the Consolidated Ebonyi Quarry Owners Association. These assailants were not alone; they were accompanied by heavily armed security personnel from the police force, who were tasked with maintaining the peace but instead became active participants in this unlawful act of violence. This brutal assault took place without any provocation, and I was subjected to physical harm and humiliation, all of which were carefully planned and executed by these individuals and also filmed.

"Consequently, the men and officers of the Nigerian Police from Zonal Office Umuahia had arrived in Ebonyi on Tuesday for a lawful arrest on a matter involving murder, cultism, et al., for which I'm both a complainant and pointer. They properly arrived themselves at the police headquarters and the relevant area command as well as the division. Their activity document was duly acknowledged and treated.

"However, the suspects could not be found within the days when they stayed for the investigation activities. However, while leaving, the Area Command Abakaliki was committed to effecting arrests and communicating them for a pickup. Against this backdrop, in the morning of Thursday, 21st March 2025, I accompanied the Station Officer at the Abakaliki Area Command and two other police officers to effect the arrest. Upon getting to the suspect's house, the S.O. went into the suspect's compound and enquired about his whereabouts, but his wife denied his availability in the house.

"Thereafter we feigned our departure, and the suspect fell for it, quickly arranged to use the only exit point to the runway. Upon approaching us, the officer flagged him, and on noticing that he was an officer, he sped off, and we followed until he made an entrance to Mr Chikaodiri Ojemba's house off Transahara African Road off Onuebonyi Junction, where some thugs and armed policemen forced us to stop, threatened to shoot us, slapped and disarmed the police officer, and also forced the other two officers to sit on the ground.

"It was not long when Mr Ojemba arrived with six other heavily armed police security personnel. Then he asked the S.O. to explain what happened while explaining the other officers and thugs could not allow him to narrate the situation. While this was happening, Mr. Ojemba, turning to me, began lambasting the S.O. for coming to arrest someone who looks like a kidnapper.

"I immediately responded, saying, with due respect, I am not a kidnapper." Immediately, his police security personnel attached to him and thugs numbering over fifteen descended on me, beating, slapping, boxing, and kicking me. They slid me down and were kicking me indiscriminately in my chest, stomach, and ribs.

"While they forcefully compelled me to keep lying down, including two of the three policemen who came for the arrest from Abakaliki Area Command, Mr. Ojemba placed a call to the Commissioner of Police, raising the false alarm that some kidnappers came to kidnap him. And after a short while, two police vans filled with heavily armed policemen draughted from the Crack Squad of the Nigerian Police Ebonyi State Command arrived and bundled me and the officers from the area command into the vans.

"Thereafter, at the headquarters, the facts of the matter were established, and it was discovered that police activity of the area command is genuine. Then, the Crack unit helped me to rush to the police clinic for medical care. However, due to the severe nature of the internal injury sustained as a result of the gruesome assault, I was quickly referred to the Emergency Unit of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, where I'm receiving my treatment.

"As a law-abiding citizen, I now call upon the relevant authorities to act swiftly and justly:

"1. The Inspector General of Police to ensure that a full investigation is conducted into the brutal assault I endured and the subsequent false accusations made against me, with the aim of judicious prosecution in the interest of justice.



"2. The Director General of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) to look into the matter, ensuring that justice is served and those responsible for the assault and defamation are held accountable.

"3. The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State, to thoroughly review the conduct of the police personnel involved in my unlawful detention, particularly their failure to protect me, their negligence in ensuring my prompt access to medical care, and their role in facilitating a false accusation.

"4. The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State to use his office to ensure the safety and security of citizens so that such incidents of brutality and injustice are not repeated.

"Furthermore, I urge the State Director of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) in Ebonyi State to intervene and demand that those responsible for this miscarriage of justice are promptly brought to book.

"I also appeal to all stakeholders in our justice system to ensure that due process is followed and that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is upheld. According to Section 34(1) of the Constitution, every citizen has the right to dignity of the human person, which includes the right to be free from torture or inhuman treatment. The actions against me were a direct violation of this fundamental right. The Criminal Code, in sections 335 and 339, also condemns unlawful detention and assault, and I call on the authorities to ensure that these provisions are respected and enforced.

"I remain steadfast in my belief that the truth will prevail, and I trust that justice will be served in the end. I thank you all for your support as I seek justice and accountability." It stated.

Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, our correspondent made an effort to reach Mr Ojemba on his mobile phone, but he was not answering.

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), Southeast zone has hailed the supreme court judgement in favour of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the party.

This is contained in a statement issued to reporters on Friday in Abakaliki by the National Vice Chairman (NVC) of the party in the zone, Mr Chidiebere Egwu.

Our reporter rrecalls that the supreme court sitting in Abuja had on Friday affirmed Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the party.

Reacting of the development, Egwu, who is current NVC of the party in zone congratulated him and further urged for the need to conduct of its Congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra.

Egwu expressed satisfaction with the uprightness of the Hon. Justices of the Supreme Court for upholding the constitution of the party as well as the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to the Southeast Zonal Chairman, this ruling is a good omen for Nigeria democracy, it is a ruling that will restored hope to millions of members of the PDP across Nigeria.

“This ruling also is a clear signal that political desperation and inordinate ambition cannot take anyone far," he added.

Egwu called on the National Secretary to join hands with other stakeholders and leaders of the PDP in the Southeast to recall those who left the party due to the high-handedness of the expelled zonal chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa.

He pledged to join hands with the National Secretary and the leaders of the party to ensure that all outstanding issues in the party, especially the outstanding State Congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states are conducted within the shortest possible time.

Egwu said that PDP in the Southeast could bounce back if issue would be resolved ahead of the next general elections.

"All these are due to greed and selfish leadership of the Mr Ali Odefa and because of him, PDP could not attract anyone to buy governorship forms in Anambra State for fear of the unknown.

“our immediate task now as leaders of the PDP in the Southeast is to ensure that state congresses are conducted in Ebonyi and Anambra states.

“You can see that both states are suffering in the PDP and that is why no one bought form for the forthcoming November 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, with this ruling, valid congresses can now be conducted in those two states," he added.

Recall that Chidiebere Egwu was nominated by stakeholders of the PDP in Ebonyi State to replace Mr. Ali Odefa after the later was suspended from his Ward in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State. Hon Egwu’s nomination was subsequently ratified by Southeast PDP stakeholders of the party on January 12, 2025.

Ali Odefa was later expelled after a disciplinary committee of the party found him culpable of antiparty activities and subsequently recommended his expulsion from the party. His Expulsion was later upheld by the Federal High Court Abakaliki on Wednesday 26th February 2025.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on community engagement South East, Barr. Chioma Nweze on Friday spoke on ways of eradicating poverty in the grassroots, financial inclusion and economic empowerment of youths and women in the region.

Nweze who addressed a mammoth crowd of students and stakeholders of the region during the grassroots leadership and sustainable development summit held at the university of Nigeria Enugu campus, UNEC, vowed to unlock the potential of individuals, communities, and the entire South East through series of programmes aimed at providing access to financial services.

According to her:"We recognize the immense potential that lies within our region, and as SSA to the President on Community Engagement, we are committed to unlocking it. The Skill-up South East initiative is a four-month training programme that will equip 97 individuals with skills in tailoring and fashion design.

"it's essential to acknowledge the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration in driving this agenda. The President's Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes economic stability, investment, and youth empowerment, with a focus on achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

"One of the key initiatives launched by the administration is the Aso Accord on Economic and Financial Inclusion, a multi-pronged blueprint designed to achieve universal access to financial services across Nigeria. The accord aims to bridge the significant gaps that have left millions of Nigerians, particularly underserved segments like women, youth, rural communities, and small businesses, without vital financial services.

We must also promote financial literacy by integrating financial education into school curricula and providing training programs for adults to enhance their financial management skills.

"As students, you have a critical role to play in promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment. You can start by acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the financial system effectively. You can also explore innovative solutions to financial exclusion, such as mobile banking, fintech, and digital payments. By doing so, you can empower yourselves, your families, and your communities to participate fully in the economy.

"we must support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which are the backbone of our economy. By providing access to credit, markets, and business development services, we can empower MSMEs to grow and create jobs. This, in turn, will drive economic growth and development, and reduce poverty and inequality, empowerment and sustainable development" she stressed.

In a remark, the Acting vice chancellor of the University, Prof. oguejiofo Ujam who was represented by deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Dan Nwachukwu expressed delight on the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially with the lots of programmes initiated to better the lives of students through the office of the SSA on community engagement South East region.

He applauded the student union government, SUG, of the university for executing a solar panel installation projects on Manual hotel with the aim of providing electricity to the people of the area.

"Embrace peace, harmonious co-existence"--- Group tells south easterners


The Orlu Progressive Initiative has urged people of the south easterners to embrace peace and dialogue, to check insecurity and other challenges facing it.

Mr Ikechukwu Nwabueze, Executive Director of the group made the call on Wednesday in Abakaliki during the south east peace and stability summit.

Nwabueze who is the convener of the summit, said the zone must embrace unity and collaboration to create a prosperous future.

"The people must commit themselves to build a region defined by stability, innovation and shared progress.

"This will make peace and economic progress the zone's identify,".

He regretted that insecurity among other challenges facing the zone have hindered its development and exacerbated poverty.

"This has also widened inequality, threatened the livelihood of millions despite the zone rich cultural heritage.

"The problems have also stifled the zone's growth, vast economic potential and strategic significance in trade,".

Nwabueze urged leaders and stakeholders of the zone to adopt a holistic approach to address its pressing concerns.

"Security, economic revitalisation and infrastructural development must be prioritised.

"This governent alone cannot cannot bear this responsibility as it requires collective efforts of policy makers, traditional and religious institutions among others.

Mr Peter Nwankwo, Aide to Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo, Marcelinus Nlemigbo urged people of the zone to prioritise agriculture to strengthen its economy.

"We have to return to the days when palm oil formed the bedrock our economy.

"The people should also de-emphasise wealth acquisition especially the ill-gotten ones,".

Mr Valentine Nwori, Media Aide to the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi commended the convener of the summit, describing it as "apt".

The allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti May 2014 against Reno Omokri in the social media was most embarrassing. Reno has said another woman made advances at him and he rejected her and stated that his wife is a beauty queen and is more than enough for me.

Natasha Akpoti as she then was lied that instead Reno Omokri was the sexual harasser, when we where provided with evidence beyond reasonable doubt that indeed Reno Omokri was not even in the country, Natasha was adviced to delete the post immediately.

We actually thought this would suffice but he insisted on going to court because of how Natasha had initially dragged him. We pleaded he will have none of it until one Reverend gentleman I will withhold his name for now intervened and Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan paid for out of court settlement

Why she is always on this road of lying that she is sexually harassed beats my imagination. The Senate President should ask her to submit her petition with evidence and he will see that like Reno’s case she will be forced to settle him

The habitual sexual harassment saga of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken a new dimenstion as a former governor and former minister, Chief Kayode Fayemi, has petitioned the Senate over defamatory statements bordering on sexual harassment and the sale of government properties made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti

Senator Cyril Fasuyi, representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, speaking at the floor of the Senate on Wednesday said that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had falsely claimed that Fayemi sexually harassed her and that he also sold Ajaokuta Steel Mill.

Fasuyi, said contrary to the defamatory statement by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Federal Government was still in complete ownership of Ajaokuta Steel Mill.

It would be recalled that Senator Abati-Uduaghan had already, according to available records, had already falsely accused Reno Omikri, a content creator; Yahaya Bello, a former governor; a minister which she is yet to named by her; and Dino Maleye, a former senator. More of her victims of false sexual harassment cases are still coming out.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a pattern of intolerance, Blackmail, and False Accusations in politics, strong disagreements are expected. However, when a politician consistently resorts to baseless accusations, blackmail, and character assassination, it becomes imperative to scrutinize the pattern of behavior.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s latest attack on Senator Florence Ita-Giwa is yet another example of her toxic political style—one defined by paranoia, desperation, and an inability to engage in civil discourse.

Senator Ita-Giwa recently made a statement condemning the trend of making baseless accusations against men in politics, noting that it is a “sign of weakness” to use unverified allegations as a weapon.

This triggered an outburst from Akpoti-Uduaghan, who immediately launched a personal attack on the distinguished senator. Instead of responding with logic and reason, she resorted to threats, stating that she would “choke” the Senate with issues they would “hate.”Worse still, in her usual manner, she dug up long-debunked tabloid gossip about Ita-Giwa from 15 years ago, attempting to smear her character.

The same tactics she used against Senate President Godswill Akpabio—false accusations, media manipulation, and blackmail—are now being deployed against Ita-Giwa.

The message is clear: anyone who disagrees with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan must be personally destroyed.It is no longer surprising that Akpoti-Uduaghan has made a name for herself by crying wolf whenever it suits her agenda.

She falsely accused the Senate President of making inappropriate advances, an allegation that was met with resounding rejection from those who know Akpabio’s character. Now, her aggressive response to Ita-Giwa suggests one thing: had the distinguished senator been a man, she too would have been accused of sexual harassment.

This is a dangerous precedent. It is one thing to stand up for women’s rights, but it is entirely different to weaponize false accusations for political gain. Such behavior undermines real victims of harassment while creating a culture of fear in which male colleagues must walk on eggshells around female politicians who might, at any moment, turn disagreements into baseless allegations.Ironically, for someone who claims to fight for women’s rights, Akpoti-Uduaghan has no problem tearing down another woman when it serves her purpose. Ita-Giwa is a respected stateswoman with decades of service to Nigeria. She does not deserve to be dragged into the gutter of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s blackmail politics simply for expressing an opinion.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s behavior reveals a disturbing mindset—one in which she sees every challenge to her as an attack that must be met with scorched-earth tactics.

This is not the temperament of a leader but of a political opportunist willing to do anything to maintain relevance.The Nigerian Senate must not allow itself to be held hostage by a senator who sees blackmail and false accusations as legitimate tools of engagement.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made it clear that she will spend the next two years launching baseless attacks on her colleagues rather than engaging in meaningful legislative work.

This is a distraction from governance, and Nigerians should take note of who is truly working and who is merely chasing controversy.Her repeated pattern of behavior should serve as a warning: today, it is Akpabio and Ita-Giwa; tomorrow, it will be someone else.

If her reckless accusations are allowed to stand unchallenged, it will only embolden her to continue using deceit as a political weapon.ConclusionSenator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s latest attack on Senator Florence Ita-Giwa is proof that she is incapable of handling disagreement with maturity. Instead of engaging in respectful debate, she resorts to threats, intimidation, and the regurgitation of old, discredited tabloid gossip.

This is the same pattern she followed against the Senate President, and now she has turned her sights on another respected figure.The Senate needs persons who can engage in robust debate without resorting to lies and blackmail.

The Senate must not allow its dignity to be dragged through the mud by a senator whose only strategy is destruction. The question Nigerians must ask is: if she can lie so brazenly today, what else is she willing to fabricate in the future?

APP Backs Fubara's Decision on Supreme Court Judgement, Vows to Clear Another LG Polls



The Action Peoples Party (APP), has thrown its weight behind the decision of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict.


The party which occupied 22 out of the 23 chairmanship seats in Rivers State described Fubara's decision as statemanly and demonstration of a leader committed to the rule of law.


APP said this in reaction to the state broadcast on Sunday by the governor wherein he revealed that he had met with his legal team which is expected to obtain the CTC by Friday, March 7, 2025.


The Supreme Court had its ruling on Friday, amongst others declared the October 5, 2024 Rivers State Local Government election invalid.


In a statement by its National Chairman Barr. Uche Nnadi the ruling party at the local government in Rivers particularly commended Fubara's position on the Local Government administration having directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take immediate control of the 23 local government councils across the state.


APP also supported the governor's instruction to the chairmen elected on its platform to formally hand over to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3, 2025.


The party vowed to win all the 23 local government councils chairmanship in the state whenever the next election is conducted and urged its members, supporters and Rivers people to keep faith with the APP and Fubara's administration.



"Our party has monitored the state broadcast of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara in which he agreed to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict after carefully reviewing its Certified True Copy (CTC).


"We particularly, commended His Excellency's directive that the Heads of Local Government Administration should immediately take over the administration of the 23 local government councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.


"APP as the party in control of 22 out of 23 chairmanship seats in Rivers State, equally support the the
governor's instruction to our
chairmen to formally hand over the levers of power to the Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, 3rd March 2025.


"Fubara's decision as conveyed in his state broadcast on the provocative judgement(s) is a demonstration of statesmanship, commitment to the rule of law and constitutional democracy.


"Therefore, we urge the party faithful to remain steadfast, support Fubara decision as APP is optimistic that when the local government election is conducted again we will win again and this time capture the remaining one seat."
