The Ebonyi State Police Command has assured students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) of its commitment to providing adequate security for the protection of lives and property.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the leadership of the university's Students' Union Government (SUG) on a courtesy visit to the Police Command Headquarters in Abakaliki. The delegation was led by the SUG President, Comrade Chika Abraham Nwuhuo.

The visit followed concerns raised by the student leadership over alleged police harassment, extortion and intimidation at the Ishieke checkpoint, located near the university community.

Speaking during the meeting, the SUG president appealed to the police to address the challenges posed by the checkpoint, noting that students were often delayed on their way to lectures and examinations.

"We have decided to come and meet with you in dialogue instead of confrontation, many students have missed exams and lectures because of the delays on the roads at checking point.

"This is the reason why we have come, because protests has not solve any problem, the undue delay and harassment is becoming something else, that is why we want to solicit for the check point to be moved."

Abraham also appealed to the police to deploy officers to Presco Junction, citing incidents of phone snatching, sexual harassment and extortion in the area. He attributed the growing insecurity to poor lighting and expressed confidence that a police presence would help improve safety for students.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police said the Ishieke checkpoint would remain because of its strategic importance, describing the location as a security flashpoint.

She, however, urged students to report any cases of harassment or extortion to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area and encouraged them to always carry valid student identity cards.

She also advised students using motorcycles or vehicles to ensure they have the necessary licences and ownership documents.

"We are not shifting the checkpoint, as regards undue delay and harassment as well as extortion, report to the DPO, if she doesn't take action, call me, but, if that delay you called undue is not carried out and if we don't search and they passed into your hostels, it's the same you that would say it's just after a police checkpoint"

The police commissioner immediately directed that officers be deployed to Presco Junction to strengthen security in the area. She also assured the students of continued collaboration with the command and encouraged the university leadership to seek government intervention to improve street lighting around the campus environment.

Former elected council chairmen in Ebonyi under the aegis of National Association of Former Elected Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (NALGON EMERITUS), have elected their leaders in the state.

The election of the leaders of the forner council chairmen took place in Abakaliki on Saturday.

Those elected include; Pharm. Tony Ekoh , State Chairman, Hon. Dunstan Nwogbaga Deputy State Chairman, Engr. Dr. Jeff Ogbu State Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele State Treasurer,
Hon. Nkama Nkama Ude State Organizing Secretary, Barr. Clement Odaa - State Legal Adviser, Hon. Chaka Nweze State Auditor, Hon. Celestine Eze zonal Chairman South and VHon. Dave Onuoha Zonal Chairman Central.

Others are ; Hon. Cyril Obaze Zonal Chairman North, Dr. Obinna Johnson Nwachukwu State Financial Secretary, Hon. Sunday Ogodo State Welfare Officer, Dr. Mrs.Adaeze Nwuzor Publicity Secretary , Hon. Inaugurating the leaders after their election, the National President of NALGON EMERITUS, Shaba Ibrahim urged them to feel free to participate in the activities of the association.

He also urged them to work in unity and esure that the association remains very strong and united.

He pointed out that one the cardinal objectives for the establishment of the association, is to be able to bring together those who have had the benefit of representing the people at the grassroots.

He described the local government council as the most difficult stratas of government with all manner of challenges confronted by the chairmen.

"I have come to conclude that it is easier to be successful governor than to be successful council chairmen. If governors don't want to see you, you stand no chance of seeing them throughout their eight years. The same cannot be said of council chairmen", Ibrahim said

He disclosed that plans are underway to ensure that former elected chairmen get their benefits and expressed the hope that it will come to reality.

The National President lamented that the local government councils are not autonomous despite the supreme court ruling on the the local government autonomy which he described as unacceptable.

"The local government councils have been rendered prostrate. They exist only at the mercy of governors contrary to the letters and intendment of the constitution.and that is why NALGON has been pushing for autonomy at the local government councils which the apex court has had course to pronounce upon but is being obeyed in the bridge, again at the mercy of governors.

"This to us is unacceptable. What is sauce for the goose, must be sauce for the gander. Without the local councils, you are unable to build the state successfully.

"The cart must perch and the eagle must also perch. He who say no to the order, let his wing break.we are going to esure that we break that wing if we come together", he stated.

Ibrahim, a former House of Representatives member also lamented the disunity in the country and revealed that the association has declared one-Nigeria project to be able to talk across all divide and reunite Nigerians.

The new Chairman of the association in the state, Pham. Tony Ekoh assaured that the new executives of the association will champion welfare of those who have been in office as council chairmen.

"The expectorants are normally high on those who have been council chairmen. You leave office and subsequently, there are expectations from you by those you served

"So, if there is revenue or income or allowances for the forner chairmen, it will help them at least to flow with the system. This is one of the reasons the body was created ", he said.

On his part, new Secretary of the association, Jeff Ogbu said over time very many former elected council chairmen have been clamouring for umbrella body will champion their welfare.over time and expressed happiness on the establishment of the association.

The Nigeria Minister of works, Engr David Umahi has donated over 1000 bags of fertilizer to the people of Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, to boost Agricultural produce in the next harvest season.

This Agricultural intervention is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Governance which reflects on practical steps of his government towards improving agricultural productivity and economic well-being of farmers across the country.

The Minister of works Engr David Umahi, who was represented by the Former Special Assistant to the immediate past Governor of Ebonyi State on Public Utilities, Emmanuel Odenigbo Nwangbo disclosed this during the distribution of the fertilizer at his residence, Ohatekwe Ishieke, Ebonyi Local Government Area, the state capital.

Nwangbo appreciated all the farmers for honoring his invitation, maintaining that, his boss the Former Governor of Ebonyi State and Current Honourable Minister of Works of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, David Nweze Umahi has magnanimously donated over 1000 bags of fertilizers to the farmers.

"This is to alleviate the suffering of the farmers which will turnout to improve Agricultural produce, thereby enhancing food Security in all the rural and urban communities in Ebonyi state". Nwangbo added.

The fertilizers were judiciously distributed to over 50 farmers in each of the 13 electoral wards that made up Ebonyi Local Government Area, as APC ward executive members, Community leaders, party faithfuls and various women groups were not left out

A Former Leader of the Ebonyi House of Assembly (EBHA) Dr Obinna Nwachukwu, has said that Governor Francis Nwifuru's background in the state legislature has greatly enhanced his governance abilities.

Nwachukwu, a Former Chairman of Ishielu Local Governentl Area (LGA) of the state, made the submission during the governor's endorsement for a second term in office by stakeholders and people of the council.

The former EBHA leader said that the finesse Nwifuru has added to
governance, is the hallmark of experience garnered in the state legislature which culminated in his rise as the speaker for eight years.

"Nwifuru was strategically positioned as the head of the legislature which making laws that affects all spheres and wellbing of the state.

"The governor's reign as the speaker witnessed the most peaceful period in the state's history on executive and legislative relationship.

"Nwifuru has used such vantage positioning to presently identify the state's areas of need as captured in his administration people's charter of needs mantra," he said.

Nwachukwu who moved the motion for Nwifuru's adoption seconded by Chief Peter Edeh who formerly represented Ishielu/ Ezza North federal constituency,, said the people were happy with the governor.

"Nwifuru has dexteritiously solved the communal conflict in the area which hitherto seemed to defy all solutions.

"The governor's calm disposition on issues has been translated to endearing proactivity which has restored the people's normal ways of lives.

"He has also touched other aspects of the people's existence such as education, health, agriculture, human empowerment among others,".

The former council boss said the endorsement also covered the entire All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections including the forthcoming August 22 council polls in the state.

"Ebonyi has benefitted from the APC in the federal and other levels and the people are ready to show their appreciation with their votes.

"All APC candidates have been tested and would be trusted to continue delivering the goods to the people,".

Ezza Youth Assembly alleges intimidation over endorsement of Ebonyi PDP guber candidate

The Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly (EEYA) has alleged that its leaders and members are being threatened, harassed and intimidated following the group's endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ebonyi governorship election, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.

Addressing a press conference in Abakaliki on Saturday, the National President of the group, Mr Sunday Nelson Orogwu, alleged that agents of the Ebonyi State Government had intensified acts of intimidation against the organisation, its members, parents, stakeholders and supporters.

Orogwu claimed that the alleged intimidation began after the assembly unanimously endorsed Odii as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship poll.

According to him, government agents have allegedly moved from one Ezza community to another threatening members of the group and their families.

He alleged that the agents had threatened to burn down their houses, kill members and force them out of their communities because of their political choice.
The EEYA president maintained that the organisation, established in 2021, is a legitimate civic body that has consistently participated in issues relating to good governance and democratic processes.

He said the assembly was exercising its constitutional right to freely associate with political organisations and support candidates of its choice, as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

"We remain resolute in our support and endorsement of Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.

"It is our constitutional right to support anyone we believe possesses the capacity to address the economic and social challenges confronting Ebonyi State," he said.

Orogwu called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian military to protect the democratic rights of citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.

He urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that no individual or group was denied the freedom to participate in the democratic process.

The EEYA president also appealed to political parties, community leaders and the Ebonyi State Government to respect the rights of all citizens and allow political campaigns to be conducted peacefully.

He stressed that electioneering should focus on presenting programmes and achievements to the electorate rather than intimidation or violence.

Orogwu further urged members of the assembly to remain peaceful, united and law-abiding despite the alleged threats.

He reaffirmed the group's commitment to its political position, saying it would continue to defend its democratic rights through lawful means.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the 2027 Ebonyi Central Senatorial election, Professor Ifeanyi Bernard Odoh, has said the Nigerian Senate offers enormous opportunities for development, lamenting that many lawmakers have failed to maximize its potential for the benefit of their constituents.

Odoh stated this during a town hall meeting at New Geneza Hotel in Abakaliki, where he formally announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognized him as the NDC candidate for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District election scheduled for May 16, 2027.

He said his background as a professor of geosciences would enable him to make meaningful contributions in the Senate, particularly in the areas of education, solid minerals, water resources, environmental management, healthcare, technology, and food security.

"The Senate is a place of enormous opportunities for anyone who understands how to utilize them. It is an opportunity we must stop wasting. As a geoscientist with specialization in geophysics, solid minerals, water resources, and environmental management, I possess knowledge that can positively influence national policies and attract development for our people.

"My expertise will be relevant in committees dealing with education, natural resources, the environment, and related sectors. I became a professor at the age of 38, and I believe my experience and professional background will enable me to contribute meaningfully to legislative debates and policymaking.

"I have extensive exposure beyond Ebonyi State. If elected, I will not be a silent senator. I will vigorously pursue policies that improve healthcare, education, security, agriculture, and the overall welfare of the people of Ebonyi Central and the state at large," he said.

Odoh expressed confidence in his ability to represent the district effectively, citing his record as secretary to the Ebonyi State Government between 2015 and 2018.

According to him, his commitment to accountability led him to voluntarily invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate his stewardship after leaving office.

"I served as Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government from May 2015 to April 2018, and to the best of my knowledge, I remain the only public official in Nigeria who voluntarily invited the EFCC to investigate his tenure after leaving office.

"While in government, I treated everyone fairly. Whenever I had the opportunity to facilitate employment for qualified people, I did so at both the state and federal levels.

"Before joining government, I worked at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. When I arrived in 2009, only about four people from my area were employed there. By the time I left to contest elections in 2015, that number had increased to 52.

"I am committed to the welfare of our people and guided by principles. The circumstances surrounding my exit from government in 2018 are well known. I remain grateful to the former governor who appointed me, but we parted ways because of differences in principles. I harbor no bitterness against anyone. I simply speak my mind, pursue my convictions, and remain focused on my goals," he said.

The NDC candidate urged his supporters to also back the party's presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as a credible leader capable of addressing Nigeria's security and economic challenges.

"Our presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, is a man whose record speaks for itself. I urge all our supporters, both at home and in the diaspora, to vote for the NDC in the 2027 general elections.

"Nigeria has enormous potential, but many young people no longer see a future in the country. Today, many workers can barely survive on their salaries. Justice, fairness, and the rule of law are under serious threat, while insecurity continues to claim innocent lives.

Chief Ifeanyi-Chukwuma Odii, 2027 Ebonyi governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations by the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Mr Chinedu Ogah, that he sponsors cyberbullying against Ebonyi government.

Odii, business Mogul popularly known as "AnyiChuks" in a statement to journalists in Abakalik on Tuesday, described the allegation as baseless and an attempt to criminalise legitimate criticism and divert attention from issues of governance in the state.

He maintained that demanding accountability from elected public officials was a constitutional right of citizens and should not be misconstrued as cyberbullying or cyberstalking.

"Since when did asking questions become cyberbullying? Since when did demanding a scorecard become cyberstalking?" Odii asked.

He said Ebonyi people deserved to know how public resources allocated to the state had been utilised, insisting that citizens had the right to demand transparency and good governance.

According to him, criticism of government policies and performance is an essential feature of democracy and should not be interpreted as an attack on any individual.

Odii also responded to Ogah's challenge on his contributions to the development of Ebonyi, saying his philanthropic interventions through the Odii Foundation and private investments had positively impacted residents across the state's 13 local government areas.

He pointed that he had empowered more than 20,000 youths and women through grants, vocational training and start-up support, while over 5,000 students had benefited from local and foreign scholarships in various disciplines.

The PDP governorship candidate further said agro-processing and information technology hubs established in Afikpo, Onicha and Abakaliki had created employment opportunities for young people.

"My foundation had provided free medical outreach programmes and health insurance for vulnerable persons, as well as built more than 1,500 houses for widows and other indigent residents across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Odii challenged Ogah to verify the claims, insisting that the beneficiaries were spread across communities in the state.

He also denied allegations that he was influencing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register underage voters, describing the accusation as reckless, defamatory and without evidence.

Odii urged the lawmaker to forward any evidence in his possession to the appropriate security agencies instead of making what he described as unsubstantiated allegations in the media.

The PDP candidate said his aspiration to govern Ebonyi was driven by a desire to improve governance and accelerate development in the state.

He pledged to continue commending the Nwifuru administration where it performed well while constructively criticising areas requiring improvement.

Odii added that he would continue to advocate transparency, accountability and inclusive development, stressing that responsible opposition was vital to democratic governance.

He maintained that Ebonyi residents deserved improved healthcare, quality education, job opportunities, agricultural development and prudent management of public resources.

Odii said he would not be intimidated into silence, adding that the people of the state would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.

recalls that Ogah had accused Odii, of sponsoring cyberbullying and propaganda against Ebonyi State government led, Gov Francis Nwifuru.

Ogah had also urged Odii to abandon what he described as "acts of political desperation" ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

According to Ogah, Odii had resorted to sponsoring online attacks against the presents state government instead of engaging in issue-based politics.

A social-cultural youth organization in Ebonyi State, Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly (EEYA), has called for an end to the zoning formula in the state for governorship seat.

The group said the state should rather replace zoning with competence, and credibility for a person to occupy the number one seat in the state.

The group stated this in Isu Achara, Onicha Local Government Area of the state at the weekend when they endorsed the governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Ifeanyi Odii.

Addressing mammoth crowd of the youth organization and stakeholders of the PDP during the event, National President of Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly, Comrade Sunday Orogwu said the purported rumpus zoning and charter of equity in the state has raped democracy and economy of the state.

Orgowu argued that since the state was greater in 1996 by the late General Sani Abacha and categorized into two; Abakaliki and Afikpo blocs by its founding fathers; Abakaliki bloc has held the governorship position for 19 years whereas Afikpo bloc has held the position for only eight years.

He said this accounted why Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly is rooting for Chief Ifeanyi Odii for the 2027 governorship race.

"The purported rumpus zoning and charter of equity in Ebonyi State has done us more harm than good. It has raped our democracy and economy.

"We recalled that Ebonyi State has founding fathers, Saints and mytres who laboured and paid the prices of Ebonyi State before it was created by late Gen. Sani Abacha on 1st October, 1996, after 39 years continuous struggle.

"These founding fathers have oral covenant of how governorship position should be rotated. So Ebonyi State creation foundation was laid on oral covenant.

"It is pertinent to note that Ebonyi State has 13 Local Government areas; Ohaukwu, Ebonyi, Izzi, Abakaliki which is Ebonyi North central senatorial district, Ikwo, Ezza South, Ezza North and Ishielu which is Ebonyi central senatorial district, which make up Abakaliki bloc, while Afikpo bloc include; Afikpo, Edda, Ivo, Ohaozara and Onicha Local Government areas, which make up Ebonyi South senatorial district.

"The issue in Chief is that our founding fathers had a covenant that at the commencement of the government of Ebonyi State, if the capital is cited in one bloc, the other bloc should take the first Executive Governor.

"The oral trust was built with mutual and moral trust, at the end, capital was cited at Abakaliki bloc, now instead of the first Executive Governor to come from Afikpo bloc, Abakaliki, in vicious circle of political skullduggery in their cahoots conspired and hijacked it through military influence of Late. Walter Aye Feghabor, the first military administrator of Ebonyi State.

"The Afikpo bloc wept like an orphan, hence, "if the foundation of a thing is destroyed, what can the righteous do?".

"When Dr. Sam Egwu completed his eight years in 2007, 1999-2007, Abakaliki bloc still in their cahoots hijacked it and zoned to Ikwo, in the name of Chief Martin Elechi, from Ebonyi central senatorial district in the same Abakaliki bloc.

"At the completion of his eight years from 2007 to 2015, the same Abakaliki bloc in their cahoots of their political chicanery, hijacked it again because Governor Martin Elechi in People's Democratic Party (PDP), fingered and sponsored Chief Edward Nkwegu under the platform of Labour Party (LP) to contest for Governor of Ebonyi State, but at the end, Chief David Umahi with the aid of his Afikpo bloc brothers and God-fearing Abakaliki people who showed sympathy, influenced by the " family of the then President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan.

"Governor David Umahi from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State led from 2015-2023, completing his eight years. Then, instead of the Abakaliki bloc to show love, peace, understanding and harmonious co-exeistence of the Ebonyi people and by our founding fathers, to the Afikpo bloc, allowing them continue for the next eight years, then they conspired and robbed Chief Ifeanyi Odii who contested under the platform of PDP and won free and fair, because Ebonyi people gave him the mandate", he said.

Orogwu said the endorsement of Odii for the 2027 general election by the Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly, was done in the spirit of no retreat, no surrender, backward never, forward ever.

He urged the people of Ezza clan to behold and uphold Odii, describing him as their Messiah.

If EFCC admits the order means the state of affairs before the dispute, why has Plot 4022, Guzape not been restored — and why is Mrs Rebecca still facing conditions that threaten her life?

For thirteen days, Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac says she has remained inside her residence at Plot 4022, Guzape, Abuja, under conditions no Nigerian should be forced to endure.

No water.
No electricity.
No cooking gas.
No ability to cook.
No ability to eat properly.
No peace.
No certainty about her safety.

Since Monday, 29 June 2026, she says operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have remained at the property while the basic utilities needed for human dignity and survival have been disconnected.

What is happening now is no longer just a land dispute. It is a human ordeal, a rule-of-law crisis, and a serious threat to her life, health and safety.

EFCC cannot claim not to understand what status quo ante bellum means.

In the Applicant/Respondent’s Written Address in Support of Motion on Notice for Clarification and/or Variation of the Order of this Honourable Court Made on 3rd July, 2026, filed in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/151/2026, EFCC itself addressed the meaning of the phrase.

At page 18, paragraph 3.10, EFCC stated that status quo ante bellum means the “state of affairs existing before the beginning of hostilities” and also before the dispute that gave rise to the application.

At page 17, paragraph 3.7, EFCC also admitted that the operative order of the Federal High Court was that parties should “maintain status quo ante bellum.”

That admission is crucial.

Before 29 June 2026, was Mrs Rebecca living without water? Was she living without electricity? Was her cooking gas disconnected? Was she unable to cook or eat properly? Were EFCC operatives stationed inside her residence? Was she living under conditions that threatened her life?

If the answer is no, then the present condition is not the pre-dispute position. It is the condition created after EFCC’s intervention.

The Contradiction EFCC Must Answer

EFCC knows the order. EFCC knows the phrase. EFCC has explained the phrase to the Court.

Yet thirteen days later, Mrs Rebecca says water remains disconnected, electricity remains disconnected, cooking gas remains disconnected, and she remains unable to cook or eat properly in her own home.

This is not just discomfort. It is a serious threat to her health, dignity and life.

A forfeiture proceeding is not a licence to degrade a citizen. A court process is not a licence to starve a woman into submission. Property preservation must never become human punishment.

Forfeiture Must Not Decide Ownership Before the Court Does

Plot 4022, Guzape is the subject of competing claims.

Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac asserts her interest in the property. Hajiya Colleen Mero Yesufu also asserts an adverse claim.

That means ownership should be determined by a court of competent jurisdiction, not indirectly decided through pressure, occupation, forfeiture proceedings, or conditions that make the home unsafe and unlivable.

If ownership has not been finally determined, no process should be used in a way that creates a practical transfer of possession, control or advantage before the court decides the real owner.

Forfeiture must not become a shortcut for deciding title.

Thirteen Days Is Not Enforcement

Thirteen days without water is not enforcement.

Thirteen days without electricity is not investigation.

Thirteen days without cooking gas is not preservation.

Thirteen days without the ability to cook or eat properly is not rule of law.

It is cruelty.

It is a threat to life.

Mrs Rebecca has not been convicted of any offence in respect of Plot 4022. The dispute is before a court. The Federal High Court has intervened. Lawyers are making arguments.

Yet the woman at the centre of this ordeal remains without water, electricity, gas and food access.

The court should determine who owns Plot 4022.

Not hunger.
Not darkness.
Not disconnected gas.
Not institutional pressure.
Not conditions that endanger human life.

The Real Pre-Dispute Position Was Simple

Before 29 June 2026, Mrs Rebecca says she was living in her home.

She had water.
She had electricity.
She had cooking gas.
She could cook.
She could eat.
She could sleep in peace.
EFCC operatives were not stationed inside her residence.

That was the pre-dispute position.

Any interpretation of status quo ante bellum that leaves her without water, electricity, gas, food, peace and safety is not a restoration of the pre-dispute position. It is a continuation of the crisis.

The Court Must Not Be Mocked by Conduct on the Ground

A court order is not respected merely by mentioning it in legal papers.

A court order is respected by conduct.

If the Court orders status quo ante bellum, then the reality at Plot 4022 must reflect the pre-dispute position.

The judiciary cannot be reduced to a forum where legal grammar is argued while a citizen remains trapped in darkness, hunger, deprivation and fear for her life.

The Plea Is Simple

Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac is not asking to be above the law.

She is asking that the law be obeyed by everyone.

She is asking that EFCC obey the same rule of law it expects citizens to obey.

She is asking that forfeiture not be used to decide ownership before the court determines who truly owns Plot 4022.

She is asking for water.
She is asking for electricity.
She is asking for gas.
She is asking to cook.
She is asking to eat.
She is asking to live.
She is asking to be protected from a situation that now threatens her life.

She is calling on the Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, human-rights organisations, civil-society groups, women’s rights groups, religious leaders, media organisations and all Nigerians of conscience to urgently come to her aid.

This is no longer only a property dispute. It is now a human emergency.

Restore the water. Restore the electricity. Restore the gas. Let her cook. Let her eat. Respect the Federal High Court. Respect the meaning of status quo ante bellum. Do not use forfeiture to decide ownership before the court. Protect her life.

Because when EFCC’s own filing admits that status quo ante bellum means the state of affairs before the dispute, the public is entitled to ask:

Why is Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac still living in the conditions created after the dispute began?

And if the law has spoken, one question remains:

Who is powerful enough to ignore it?

The Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly (EEYA), a socio-cultural organisation, has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, describing him as its preferred choice to govern Ebonyi.

They made the endorsement on Sunday during a rally organised by the group in Ebonyi, where thousands of youths gathered in support of Odii's governorship aspiration.

The National President of the EEYA, Mr Sunday Orogwu, said the endorsement followed the organisation's assessment of Odii's leadership qualities, philanthropic record and contributions to human capital development.

According to Orogwu, the group believes Odii possesses the capacity to unite the people, rebuild public institutions, revitalise the state's economy, create employment opportunities for youths and promote peaceful coexistence across communities.

He said the assembly was convinced that Odii's track record as a businessman, wealth creator and philanthropist demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of Ebonyi people.

The President added that the endorsement was aimed at supporting a candidate capable of restoring the state's dignity and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.

"The person Ebonyi needs is one who can harmonise, restructure, rebuild and restore the dignity of the state, industrialise the economy, create jobs and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the people," he said.

Orogwu said the endorsement was reached during the EEYA General Assembly held at its Worldwide Secretariat in Onueke between June 27 and June 30, 2026.

He said the decision reflected the group's resolve to support what it described as a leader committed to uniting Ebonyi people and accelerating the state's development.

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the EEYA, Chief Elechi Ngwuta, said the organisation, established in 2021, had grown to more than 7,000 registered members.

Ngwuta alleged that despite the historical significance of the Ezza people in Ebonyi, they had not received commensurate political benefits over the years.

He said the endorsement of Odii represented the aspiration of the Ezza nation to participate more actively in the state's political leadership.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Umuekumenyi Leaders Council, Chief Christopher Ngwuta, urged members of the assembly to remain united and steadfast in pursuing their political objectives.

He said many prominent Ezza politicians had been unsuccessful in previous bids for key political offices in the state and expressed confidence in Odii's leadership qualities.

Odii, represented by Chief Ogbonnaya Igboke, a former Commissioner for Project Monitoring in Ebonyi, thanked the assembly for the endorsement.

He assured the group of his commitment to providing inclusive leadership and urged members not to be intimidated as preparations for the 2027 election gathered momentum.

Odii said the election would provide an opportunity to reposition the state and promised to work for the overall development of Ebonyi if elected.

After thirteen painful days, the family of Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, finally allowed her husband, Engineer Isaac Ishaku Yusuf, to take food and essential supplies to her inside their residence at Plot 4022, Guzape, Abuja.

For nearly two weeks, Mrs Rebecca had reportedly remained inside the property under conditions no human being should be forced to endure: no water, no electricity, no cooking gas, no ability to cook properly, no normal access to food, no peace and no certainty about her safety.

The family says this limited access came only after mounting pressure from the press, public appeals, concerned Nigerians and human-rights voices who refused to look away.

It is only a small humanitarian opening in a crisis that should never have happened.

Mrs Rebecca’s ordeal is not over, food was allowed in, but the suffering has not ended

"Allowing food and supplies into the house after thirteen days does not erase thirteen days of deprivation.

"It does not restore the water. It does not restore the electricity. It does not restore the cooking gas.

"It does not restore the home to the condition it was in before EFCC operatives came to the property.

"And it does not answer the painful question:

"Why did a woman need public pressure before her husband could take food and basic supplies to her in her own home?

"No Nigerian should have to trend before they can eat.

"No wife should have to wait nearly two weeks before her husband can take essentials to her.

"No citizen should be reduced to begging for water, light, gas and food while a matter is already before a court.

"EFCC Knows what the court ordered

"This is even more troubling because EFCC’s own court filing shows that the Commission understands what status quo ante bellum means.

The family welcomes the fact that Engineer Isaac Ishaku Yusuf was eventually allowed to take food and supplies to his wife.

"But Nigerians must not be deceived. Food entering the house does not mean the ordeal is over.

"A woman still cannot live normally without water.

She cannot live safely without electricity. She cannot cook properly without gas.

She cannot be said to be free while her home remains under conditions that threaten her health, dignity and safety.

"This is not just discomfort. It is a threat to life. It is emotional pressure.

"It is physical deprivation. It is a human emergency. Public Pressure Worked, Now It Must Continue

"The fact that EFCC eventually allowed food and supplies to reach Mrs Rebecca proves one thing clearly:

"Public pressure works. The press matters. Human-rights voices matter. Civil society matters. Concerned Nigerians matter.

"But the pressure must not stop because the real issue has not been resolved.

"Mrs Rebecca still needs the water restored. She still needs electricity restored.

"She still needs gas restored. She still needs safety guaranteed.

"She still needs the Federal High Court’s order to mean something in reality, not merely on paper.

"This Is Bigger Than One Woman. Today, it is Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac. Tomorrow, it could be anyone.

"If a woman can be left for thirteen days without water, electricity, gas and proper food access while a court order exists, then every Nigerian should be afraid.

"If a citizen must depend on press pressure before food can reach her, then the rule of law is in danger.

"If a court order can be discussed in filings while suffering continues on the ground, then the public must ask whether the courts still have practical protection for ordinary citizens.

"This is not about asking that Mrs Rebecca be placed above the law. It is about asking that the law be obeyed by everyone.

"Including EFCC. The Demand Remains Simple," they added.

Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac is asking for the most basic things required for human life:vWater. Electricity. Gas. Food. Safety. Dignity.

She is called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, human-rights organisations, civil-society groups, women’s rights groups, religious leaders, media organisations and all Nigerians of conscience to continue to come to her aid.

The demand is simple:
Restore the water. Restore the electricity. Restore the gas. Let her cook. Let her eat. Respect the Federal High Court. Respect the meaning of status quo ante bellum. Protect her life.

After thirteen days, food has finally entered the house. But food is not freedom. Supplies are not justice. Limited access is not restoration.

Until Mrs Rebecca’s water, electricity, gas, safety and dignity are fully restored, this remains a human emergency.

And Nigerians must not look away.

A group of prominent Labour Party (LP) leaders in Ebonyi State has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's administration and describing his leadership as a major factor behind their decision.

The former LP members, led by the party's State Secretary and Coordinator of the Labour Movement in Ebonyi, Comrade Igiri Innocent, announced their defection during a meeting at the APC State Secretariat in Abakaliki, where they were received by the party's State Chairman, Stanley Okoro Emegha.

Addressing the gathering, Emegha described the development as a significant boost for the ruling party, saying the new members had voluntarily resolved to identify with the APC after assessing the performance of the state government.

According to him, the decision reflected growing confidence in Governor Nwifuru's administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, peace-building and governance.

"Their decision was entirely voluntary. Nobody compelled or persuaded them to leave their former party. They came because they believe the APC-led administration is moving Ebonyi in the right direction and they want to contribute to that vision," he said.

The APC chairman expressed optimism that the new entrants would strengthen the party's political structure across their respective communities, noting that many of them command considerable grassroots support.

He urged them to remain committed to the ideals of the APC and work towards expanding the party's reach ahead of future political contests.
Explaining the reasons behind the defection, Comrade Igiri said the group considered the overall interest of Ebonyi State more important than partisan loyalty, adding that the governor's performance had convinced them to support his administration.

He maintained that the responsibility of political leaders should be to promote policies capable of improving the welfare of citizens, irrespective of party differences.

"Our decision is based on what we believe is best for Ebonyi State. We have carefully assessed the direction of governance and concluded that supporting the present administration is in the interest of our people," he said.

Igiri also announced the formation of a political mobilisation platform known as "FON All the Way," which he described as a network of experienced grassroots politicians committed to supporting the APC across the state.

He said members of the platform played active roles during the 2023 general election and would continue mobilising support for Governor Nwifuru and the ruling party.

Also speaking, the Deputy National Leader (South-East) of the movement, Hon. Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, said the administration had created a peaceful environment that had encouraged residents and investors to pursue their activities without fear.

She noted that the government's policies had inspired confidence among many political stakeholders, adding that the group's decision was driven by a desire to contribute to the state's continued development.

Chukwu called on other political actors to place the interest of Ebonyi above party affiliations and support initiatives capable of promoting peace, economic growth and sustainable development across the state.

A group, the Concerned Citizens of Igbo-Etiti East Constituency, has called on the Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ezenta Ezeani, to resign within seven days over allegations of certificate forgery and criminal misrepresentation.

The group made the demand in a petition addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Uche Ugwu, on Tuesday in Enugu.

Leader of the group, Ikechukwu Marcus Ogbadu, alleged that Ezeani sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2019 after serving two terms in the state legislature.

According to Ogbadu, the development raises questions about the academic qualifications allegedly presented by the lawmaker during the 2015 and 2019 general elections.

The petition further alleged that Ezeani was withdrawn from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology over the alleged presentation of a fake certificate, and questioned the credentials he used to contest the earlier elections.

The group urged the Speaker to suspend the deputy speaker if he failed to resign within the seven-day ultimatum, saying such action would pave the way for an independent investigation into the allegations.

It also said that a separate petition alleging forgery and criminal misrepresentation had been forwarded to the Nigeria Police Force through the Inspector-General of Police for investigation.

According to the group, the demand is intended to protect the integrity of the Enugu State House of Assembly and sustain public confidence in the state's democratic institutions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Ezeani nor the Enugu State House of Assembly had responded to the allegations.

.....Says it cannot pitch the Minister of Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Nyesom Wike against Governor Francis Nwifuru.



The government alleged that the two factions of PDP have been making every attempt to score cheap political point and cause disaffection between Wike and Nwifuru by twisting a public statement of the Ebonyi Governor on June 15, 2025 at the Abakaliki Township stadium during the endorsement rally of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates for the 2027 general elections.



Commissioner for Information and State Orientation in the state, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh stated this in a statement in Abakaliki, the state capital on Tuesday.



Omebeh said at no time did Nwifuru issue any threat against Wike during the .endorsement rally contrary to PDP statements and some media reports.



“The attention of the Ebonyi State Government has been drawn to press statements by the national leadership of the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as well as reports in some sections of the media, concerning remarks made by His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, during the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates for the 2027 general elections held on June 15, 2026, at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.



The State Government hereby makes the following clarifications: “at no time did His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, issue any threat against the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike.



“In his speech at the event, the Governor only cautioned some opposition elements who are fanning the embers of crisis in the State and spreading fake news and propaganda in the name of His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to desist from such acts.



“The word "consume" used by His Excellency was a metaphorical expression indicating that those involved in such acts would face the full weight of the law if they fail to retrace their steps.



“Their Excellencies, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru and Barr. Nyesom Wike, maintain mutual respect. As such, Governor Nwifuru has no reason whatsoever to make any uncomplimentary remarks or threats against Barr. Nyesom Wike.



“The attempt by the two PDP factions and some paid media hirelings to twist the Governor’s speech for selfish reasons and to create a rift between both leaders is uncalled for and should be discountenanced”, Omebeh said .

He urged PDP to be more concerned about resolving the numerous crises plaguing the party, which he said have rendered it almost non-existent, than commenting on the performance of the Nwifuru’s administration.

“The Ebonyi State Government maintains that any attempt to create an imaginary misunderstanding between Their Excellencies, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru and Barr. Nyesom Wike, will fail like a pack of cards”, the Commissioner said.

A nongovernmental organisation, One Youth Global, has vowed to raise leaders, secure economic freedom for Africa and unlock the potential of youth across the African continent, especially in Nigeria.

The organisation, however, decried the rising insecurity in Nigeria, which, according to it, affected the participation of some African countries at Spark Nation 3.0, a programme themed “Raising change makers across Africa,” held at the permanent site of Ebonyi State University.

The President of One Youth Global, Mr UcheChukwu Agbo, made this known while speaking to journalists shortly after Spark Nation 3.0 was flagged off.

The programme featured a leadership boot camp, debate and quiz competition for students selected from over ten African countries.

Agbo said that Spark Nation 3.0 was designed for secondary school students and would impact 250 schools, over 3,000 students and 660 teachers, while increasing the access of 560 African youths to formal education.

According to him, “Over the past few years, Africa has faced quite a number of challenges, and indeed it has done so since independence. We know that there was a generation that fought and won political independence for Africa. There is now a generation that needs to free Africa from economic shackles. Ours is that generation.

“So, Spark Nation is geared towards raising a new generation of leaders who understand that enterprise development and solving problems form the crux of leadership.

“We have 192 schools from across West and Central Africa registered for Spark Nation 3.0. As a matter of fact, we received entries from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Chad, Liberia and other nations across West and Central Africa.

“But at the end of the day, due to the fear of the spate of insecurity that now bedevils Nigeria, some of the parents could not allow their children to attend the championship in Nigeria. The students wanted to come, but their parents could not allow them to risk their lives in that way.

“However, that is precisely one of the reasons why Spark Nation was created. Africa is asking many questions of her leaders, and one of those questions is that of insecurity.

“Our target is to develop a new generation of young leaders across Africa, who will ensure that no part of Africa is unsafe for people to visit because they fear for their lives.

“I believe that basic security is a fundamental human right, and nobody should have to live in such state of precarity that they do not have basic right to life in their communities.

"We want to raise a generation of problem solvers across different parts of Africa; problem solvers who will solve insecurity across the continent,” he stressed.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, who addressed the teeming students, revealed his administration’s preparedness to boost education, fight social vices and ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state.

Nwifuru, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu, charged the participants to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the forthcoming elections.

“My administration has deliberately opened the gates for youth participation. We are investing in infrastructure that connects your farm produce to markets. We are also earmarking skills and entrepreneurship funds to reduce the risks on your ideas.

“There is governance inclusion, too, by appointing youths into boards and agencies. The Charter is a platform, but a platform is useless if you refuse to stand on it.

“So, I ask you not politely, but politically: Are you registered? Do you have your PVC? Are you in party structures, and not just on Twitter, Instagram and Meta? Are you preparing to contest in 2027, 2031 and 2035?

“Ebonyi cannot be handed over to the next generation by accident. It must be handed over by design, and you must be part of that design.

“Every great nation was built by youths who refused to be defined by hardship. I charge you to think globally while building locally. One Youth Global is already leading the charge in that regard. I encourage you to join the move. Use global knowledge to solve Ebonyi, Nigerian and African problems,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Ebonyi State University, Prof. Ike-Elechi Ogba, charged the participants to shun social media distractions and focus more on creating solutions to the multiple challenges facing the African continent, and Nigeria in particular.

“The only way to build the youths in society is to pull them away from social media distractions and bring them into an environment where they can concentrate and focus on what they are supposed to do, which is to learn and build their future,” he noted.

On his part, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Michael Aja Nwachukwu, applauded One Youth Global for seeking solutions to the problems facing African countries, especially Nigeria, and decried the rising insecurity in the nation.

According to him, “Insecurity is an issue, and everybody knows about that. I was with the House of Representatives Committee on Security, and we discussed at length the issues of insecurity in this country, including our borders, which are empty and porous.

“The volume of insurgents here, I do not know how to explain it. It is all over the place. People can feel it; Nigeria is insecurity personified.

“Insecurity does not spare teachers. Members of their families have been kidnapped, and some have died in kidnappers’ hideouts. My advice is that Nigerians are ready for other solutions to it.

“We have been abandoned by the government, even though it is the responsibility of the government to protect the lives and property of Nigerians. So, since we cannot be helped,

"we are helping ourselves. We are waiting for them to wake up from their slumber. We are now hearing of state police. I hope that will make some sense; if it does, good luck to us,” he emphasised.

The occasion also drew an array of eminent personalities, among them the renowned novelist and literary scholar, Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, Nnamdi Okezie, Chinedu Ugbah and several others.

Public concern is mounting over allegations that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have occupied a residential property in Guzape, Abuja, despite an ongoing court case over its ownership.

The property, located at Plot 4022, Cadastral Zone A09, Guzape, is occupied by the family of Amb. Dr. Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, who allege that EFCC operatives have denied them access to the residence while the ownership dispute remains before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the family, the matter is pending before the FCT High Court, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, and has been adjourned until September for ruling. They contend that the alleged occupation of the property before the court's decision raises concerns over due process and respect for judicial proceedings.

A legal practitioner, Mr. M. I. Ibekwe, described the reported development as a test of Nigeria's commitment to the rule of law, arguing that no institution should take actions capable of creating the impression that a pending case has already been determined.

He said that once a matter is before a competent court, all parties and public institutions are expected to exercise restraint until judgment is delivered, adding that any action suggesting otherwise could undermine confidence in the judiciary.

The family further alleged that the development has left minor children, including Jadidah Ishaku-Yusuf and her younger siblings, unable to access their home.

"Even the children, who are not parties to the dispute, have been subjected to distress as a result of the unresolved legal matter.

The family maintained that Godwin-Isaac lawfully acquired the property from Architect Richard Idakwogi John of Rychado Homes Limited and took possession of the residence in 2024.

Jadidah Ishaku-Yusuf appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene, expressing concern that her family had been prevented from accessing the property despite the case remaining before the court.

Also commenting on the matter, public affairs analyst and media practitioner, Comrade Buba Ibrahim, urged the EFCC to clarify the legal basis for its reported actions, stressing that law enforcement agencies must operate within the bounds of the Constitution and respect ongoing judicial processes.

He warned that allowing actions perceived as prejudging a pending case could erode public confidence in the justice system, adding that the welfare of the affected children should be given urgent attention.

Concerned Nigerians have also called on the President, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the EFCC leadership, the Nigerian Bar Association and human rights organisations to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported occupation of the property and ensure full respect for the pending court proceedings.

Former Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Airport Security, Hon. Nnanna Nwangele, has declared his support for Dr. Ifeanyi Chikwuma Odii (Anyichuks) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Odii is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State for the forthcoming election.

In a statement made available to journalists, Nwangele said his decision to declare support for Odii was not based on personal interest but on what he described as a commitment to an initiative focused on the development of the state and the welfare of its people.

Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 Ebonyi State election, has unveiled an ambitious development agenda centred on education, human capital development, infrastructure, security, institutional reforms and tourism.

Odii made the pledge on Thursday during a dinner with members of the Ebonyi business community and other stakeholders in Abuja, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return as the PDP governorship candidate.

Speaking on the theme, "Better Days Are Possible Again," the PDP flag bearer called for unity among Ebonyi people, urging stakeholders to work collectively towards building a prosperous and economically vibrant state.

He said despite Ebonyi's abundant human and natural resources, the state had yet to achieve the level of development envisioned by its founding fathers, blaming the situation on poor leadership and governance.

According to him, his administration, if elected, would prioritise education, human capital development, infrastructure, institutional reforms, security and tourism as the foundation for sustainable growth.

Odii also urged young people to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and technology rather than relying on political appointments, stressing that the global economy increasingly rewards knowledge, creativity and technical skills.

"The twenty-first century belongs to knowledge, innovation, creativity and technology. The future belongs to those who can solve problems and create value," he said.

He listed software development, artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, digital marketing, renewable energy technology, agribusiness, mechanised farming, manufacturing as key sector the youths should build careers.

Others are: construction technology, healthcare innovation, creative industries, financial technology, cybersecurity, engineering and industrial production among others.

The PDP candidate pledged to launch what he described as the most ambitious human capital development programme in the state's history.

"I want Ebonyi youths to become employers of labour, exporters and global innovators capable of competing with the best anywhere in the world," he said.

Odii further promised to declare a state of emergency in education, invest in technology-driven learning, equip young people with globally competitive skills, expand infrastructure, strengthen public institutions and unlock Ebonyi's tourism potential.

On the issue of zoning, he acknowledged the importance of existing political arrangements but argued that the state now requires visionary, competent and inclusive leadership capable of delivering development across all parts of Ebonyi.

Paying tribute to the state's founding fathers, he said Ebonyi urgently needed to be rescued from what he described as directionless governance in order to preserve their vision.

He urged stakeholders to support his aspiration to build "a new Ebonyi" founded on merit, opportunity and shared prosperity.

"We must come together to arrest this drift. We must build a new political culture where excellence is rewarded, merit matters and opportunities abound for every child to aspire to greatness," he said.

The event, held at The Dome, Francis Hotel, Abuja, attracted business leaders, technocrats, members of the leadership of Ebonyi Community (EBOCOM), Abuja, PDP leaders and various support groups.

Thousands of transport operators and stakeholders across Ebonyi State on Thursday staged a massive solidarity walk in Abakaliki and unanimously adopted Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as their sole candidate for a second term in office.



The endorsement took place at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, after members of various transport unions marched from the Christian Ecumenical Centre to the stadium in a colourful procession involving tricycles, motorcycles, buses, mini-trucks and other commercial vehicles.



The rally, organised by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Transport and Special Projects, brought together leaders and members of transport associations operating in the state, who declared their total support for the governor's re-election bid and described his administration as transformative and people-oriented.



Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Transport and Special Projects, Prince Emeka Collins Igboke, said the endorsement was a recognition of Governor Nwifuru's commitment to democratic governance, infrastructural development and the welfare of transport operators in the state.



He noted that since assuming office, the governor had maintained a leadership style that promotes inclusiveness, transparency and respect for democratic principles, particularly in allowing transport unions to elect their leaders without interference.



According to him, the administration's policies have strengthened internal democracy within transport unions, promoted peace among operators and enhanced confidence in government.



Igboke highlighted several achievements recorded in the transport sector under the Nwifuru administration, including the introduction of free transportation services for civil and public servants through the People's Charter of Needs buses, the establishment of EBOCAB and the procurement of 20 new commuter buses for EBOTRANS.



He also cited the rehabilitation and maintenance of traffic lights in strategic locations across Abakaliki, as well as the construction of modern bus shelters in the state capital and suburban areas.



The commissioner stated that the projects had significantly improved transportation services, enhanced road safety and provided greater comfort for commuters across the state.



"Having carefully assessed the performance of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, his commitment to democratic governance, people-oriented policies and transformational leadership, the transport sector has unanimously resolved to endorse him as its sole candidate for a second term in office," he said.

The union leaders said Governor Nwifuru's administration had restored sanity in the transport sector, improved security and fostered peaceful coexistence among transport operators across the state.



They also applauded the governor's road infrastructure projects, noting that improved road networks in virtually all local government areas and communities had reduced vehicle breakdowns and enhanced the movement of people and goods.



The transport leaders further commended the administration for eliminating multiple taxation, which they said had previously imposed hardships on transport operators.



According to them, the governor's open-door policy has encouraged active participation by stakeholders and ensured that different groups contribute meaningfully to governance.



They expressed confidence that a second term for the governor would consolidate the gains already recorded under the People's Charter of Needs agenda.



Responding on behalf of Governor Nwifuru, the Chief of Staff, Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu, thanked the transport unions and stakeholders for the endorsement and overwhelming show of support.



Echiegu described the solidarity walk and endorsement as a demonstration of the confidence Ebonyi people have in the governor's leadership and developmental vision.

A Renowned Optometrist, Dr Ikenna Ugwu has offered free eye care services to over 300 citizens of Amechi Uwani and surrounding communities of Enugu South Local Governentl Area of Enugu State.

Ugwu who offered services such as free eye examinations, free eye medications, diagnosis, High Blood Pressure checks among others, also donated free eye glasses, free masking contact lens, medications among other items to the beneficiaries, all worth millions of naira.

The Agbor, Delta State--based Optometrist, said the programme was designed to immortalise his late parents , revered for their unparalled philanthropy.

"I engaged two Optometrists for the exercise. We discovered that most people do not even know they have eye-related deficiencies that pose serious dangers to their sights and health in general.

"I performed similar outreaches during my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Delta and discovered that most people suffer from complications of sight ailments due to late report of cases.

"This late report of cases is mainly caused by ignorance, harmful traditional practices among other factors but we educate them against such behaviours,".

Dr. Ugwu noted that the outreach then earned him automatic employment by the Delta state government as he presently choose to replicate such gesture to his people.

"I advise people to take good care of their eyes and general health well-being to avoid emergency and irredemable situations.

"We had a situations where some beneficiaries said they have not checked their eyes, blood pressures since the past six months and most declined visiting the hospitals when informed of such condition,".

Chief Geoffrey Umeanuka, a Stakeholder and Businessman, said that Ugwu's community and indeed the entire state, should be proud of him.

Umeanuka, who is an inlaw to the donor, said the crowd who turned up for the event was overwhelming and all of them receivved free eye-care services.

"Dr Ugwu Ikenna is my late sister's son as philanthropy runs in the family's blood as testified by people of the area,".

Engr. Kenechukwu Ugwu, the donor's younger brother, said that the outreach was the family's well-thought out decision to honour their late parents

"We felt the need to give back to the society in an unprecedented way, to thank God for his mercies upon us and the lives of our late parents,".

Miss Amarachi Odoh, a Caterer commended Dr. Ugwu for the gesture noting that it impacted positively on the beneficiaries considering the present economic situation in the country.

The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) and a coalition of youth groups have called on the Federal Government and security agencies to caution the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, over what they described as inflammatory statements directed at political opponents in the state.

Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja on Monday, the Deputy National President of the NYO, Nasir Doka, expressed concern over the governor's alleged remarks against opposition political actors, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Doka urged security agencies to intervene, warning that such rhetoric could pose a threat to democratic values and political stability.

According to him, public office holders must recognise the influence of their words and the responsibilities attached to leadership positions.

He said statements allegedly attributed to the governor, which have been widely circulated in the public domain, had generated concern among many Nigerians, especially youths, who viewed the comments as potentially threatening, intimidating and inconsistent with the principles of democratic engagement.

"The Nigerian Youth Organisation considers it necessary to draw national attention to the gravity of such rhetoric when it emanates from the office of a sitting governor," he said.

Doka noted that democracy thrives on tolerance, dissent, constructive criticism and competition of ideas, stressing that citizens must be free to express political opinions without fear.

"No democracy can flourish where citizens become afraid to express political opinions. No democracy can thrive where opposition voices fear intimidation. No democracy can mature where criticism of government is perceived as hostility," he said.

The youth leader described any unguarded political utterances capable of undermining constitutional rights as a threat to democratic governance.

He recalled that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees freedom of expression, freedom of association and political participation for all citizens.

"These rights are not privileges granted by government officials. They are constitutional rights belonging to every Nigerian citizen.

"Therefore, any statement capable of creating the impression that critics or political opponents may face consequences beyond the democratic process deserves serious public scrutiny," he said.

The NYO called on stakeholders in the democratic process to remain vigilant against actions capable of endangering Nigeria's democracy and national unity.

The organisation also urged Gov. Nwifuru to publicly reaffirm his commitment to political tolerance, freedom of expression and the constitutional rights of citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.

It further called on security institutions to ensure that political rhetoric is not interpreted as a licence for intimidation, harassment or violence.

The group advised political parties and public office holders across the country to embrace responsible communication and avoid statements capable of escalating political tensions.

It also appealed to the people of Ebonyi State, particularly the youth, to remain calm, exercise restraint and maintain their commitment to peace.

A talent manager and movie director, Steve Rodstick, has unveiled plans for the first season of the Ebonyi Next Superstar Reality Show, an initiative aimed at discovering, developing, and promoting talented young Nigerians and Africans in the creative industry.

Rodstick, who is the initiator of the project, at a press conference held in Abakaliki, said the idea was born out of passion and a desire to create opportunities for young talents, particularly those from Ebonyi State.

He explained that the reality show is designed to provide a platform where upcoming talents can showcase their creativity and demonstrate the qualities needed to become successful in the entertainment industry.

Rodstick noted that talent alone is not enough to make an individual a superstar, stressing that other qualities such as confidence, creativity, skills, exposure, and proper presentation are essential.

“There are a number of persons who are talented but have never become superstars. The dream of every talented person is to become a superstar, but the gap is that people only consider talent as the major factor. A true superstar possesses qualities beyond talent,” he said.

He added that the project seeks to bridge the gap by helping young creatives develop the attributes required to succeed.

“The Next Superstar" is not just a talent development program; it is also a promotional and marketing platform for upcoming artists. "We want to bring opportunities that talents in other parts of the world enjoy to our young people here,” he stated.

The reality show, which will be officially unveiled on July 25, 2026, will focus on music and content creation, with a reward package worth N10 million for winners.

Rodstick explained that the music category will feature three major sections, including original songs, beat-produced freestyle, and the creation of original music.

He said the choice of music and content creation was deliberate because of their growing influence in society and their ability to provide economic opportunities for young people.

“Music ignites the soul. It is one of the things that keeps society moving. Content creation, on the other hand, has become a powerful tool that has helped many youths become self-reliant,” he said.

According to him, the digital age has created new opportunities for young people regardless of their educational background.

“Today, there are people who did not go through the traditional academic system but have become millionaires and influencers through content creation. This is the power of the media and the internet,” he added.

The project is supported by Talent TV, DSTV, and Rock TV, with free registration for interested participants.

The House of Representative's candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, for Afikpo/Edda federal constituency, Chief Agwu Ama Agwu at the weekend vowed to win election in the forthcoming 2027 general election in the state.

Agwu inaugurated grassroot political mobilizers on the aegis of 'Agwu Ama Movement' and was massively attended by prominent stakeholders in Afikpo and Edda LGAs.

The event which took place at Ebuwana Civic Center, Edda LGA and Amuro Town Hall, Afikpo LGA, according to reports, was conducted peacefully and in orderly manner, without hitches.

The Eyewitness reports that those inaugurated includes; ward coordinators, youth leaders, women leaders, and critical stakeholders from Edda and Afikpo respectively.

It was gathered that those inaugurated includes; five Village representatives, ten Youth Leaders, ten Women Leaders, and ten Critical Stakeholders per ward.

The NDC house of representative candidate, Agwu who spoke during the inauguration charged all supporters and members to see the inauguration not as a celebration, but as a call to duty.

“This structure wins elections. Unity wins the future,” he declared.

He urged every coordinator to return to their villages and ensure _no compound, no kindred is left behind in the mission to deliver purposeful representation.

In a remark, the director general, DG, 'Agwu Ama Movement', Chukwuma Imo Oka, urged the stakeholders and ward coordinators to be loyal and should put in their energy to ensure the victory of the candidate, Agwu come 2027 polls.

“You are the engine room. Your loyalty, organization, and discipline at the ward and village level will determine victory at the polls. And you should Mobilize your people.

Responding, Sam Ukpai, an elder statesman admonished NDC party faithful and canvassers to remain united, focused, and issue-based.

He reminded them that the movement is built on service, equity, and people-first leadership, not division.

Another stakeholder, Mr. Enyinnaya, applauded the successful inauguration and charged the newly inaugurated structure to “do more at the grassroots.”

According to him, “The real election is won in the villages. Let the people feel Agwu Ama Movement in every home.” he stressed.

The Ward Coordinators, however pledged unalloyed loyalty to the political ambition of Agwu Ama Agwu.

They assured the leadership that they will work tirelessly, day and night, to ensure victory in the forthcoming general election in the state.

In a related development, the NDC house of Representative's candidate, Agwu further consulted with traditional rulers in Oso Edda, Itim Afikpo, Ebuwana, Unwana, and Owutu communities.

The people of Edda clan in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have strongly opposed calls for clemency and the unconditional release of persons standing trial over the alleged murder and beheading of four indigenes of Okporojo community in the area, describing such demands as provocative and capable of undermining ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts in the state.

The position was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Nzuko Edda, Abakaliki Branch, Chief David Nkama, and the Secretary, Chief Stanley Ngwu, in reaction to a communiqué reportedly issued by stakeholders and political leaders of Amasiri clan following a meeting held on May 6, 2026, at De Baze Hotel, Amasiri, as well as comments attributed to a Facebook platform, Amasiri Odyssey, which allegedly called for clemency for the suspects.

According to the people, the January 29, 2026, incident resulted in the gruesome killing of four Okporojo indigenes, including the beheading of three victims, the abduction of residents, and the destruction of about 29 houses and valuable property, leaving many families devastated and displaced.

They described the killings as shocking and traumatic, noting that the tragedy affected the entire state and underscored the need for justice for the victims and their families.

The group commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for what it described as courageous and statesmanlike actions taken after the incident, particularly the arraignment and prosecution of the 33 suspects allegedly indicted by police investigations.

According to the statement, the governor's intervention restored public confidence in the justice system and reinforced the principle that no individual or group is above the law.

The Clan, however, expressed concern over what they described as attempts to politicise the killings by seeking the unconditional release of defendants currently facing trial.

They argued that such calls amounted to a display of impunity and a disregard for the pain suffered by the victims and their families.

They further alleged that no meaningful reconciliatory steps had been initiated by the Amasiri community since the attacks, warning that attempts to pressure the state government into granting clemency before judicial determination of the matter could worsen tensions and reopen old wounds.

"Justice cannot be sacrificed on the altar of political pressure, clannish sentiments or emotional appeals. Sustainable peace can only be achieved where truth, accountability and responsibility prevail," the statement read.

The group insisted that the prosecution of all persons indicted in connection with the killings should proceed without interference, intimidation or political pressure, stressing that any attempt to politicise the matter could jeopardise efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace.

They urged the Ebonyi State Government to remain committed to justice, fairness and accountability, maintaining that genuine reconciliation could only be achieved through sincerity, remorse, truth and respect for the rule of law.

The Clan noted that despite the magnitude of the losses suffered, the people of Okporojo and the Edda clan had exercised restraint because of their confidence in the government's commitment to justice.

They appealed to Governor Nwifuru not to succumb to pressure for the release of the suspects before the conclusion of judicial proceedings, expressing confidence that the courts would ensure that justice is not only done but also seen to be done.

According to them, lasting peace in Ebonyi State can only be guaranteed when those responsible for criminal acts are made to face the full weight of the law, while innocent citizens are assured protection, justice and security.

Fresh questions are emerging over the role of government in the increasing intersection between public institutions and partisan political activities in Ebonyi State, following allegations that officials of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) were directed to mobilise staff and students for political endorsement events linked to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The controversy, which has generated intense conversations within academic, political, and civil society circles, took a new dimension after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the state government of fostering an environment in which public institutions allegedly feel compelled to align themselves with partisan political objectives.

At the heart of the debate is a question that many stakeholders believe requires a clear answer:

Is Governor Francis Nwifuru aware of these activities, and if he is, does he approve of them?

The question may appear simple, but its implications are far-reaching.

If the reported directives and mobilisation efforts were undertaken without the knowledge of the Governor, analysts say the development raises concerns about the conduct of public officials acting in his name.

However, if such activities enjoy official approval, critics argue that even more fundamental questions arise regarding institutional independence, academic freedom, and the appropriate relationship between government and public educational institutions.

The PDP, in a strongly worded reaction, argued that the controversy is no longer merely about an endorsement event.

According to the opposition party, it is increasingly becoming a test of the administration's commitment to democratic principles and institutional autonomy.

The party contends that universities are designed to nurture critical thinking, intellectual independence, and the free exchange of ideas—not to function as arenas for political mobilisation.

Observers note that public universities occupy a unique position in society because they are expected to remain centres of scholarship irrespective of the political disposition of those in power.

This is why the allegations have attracted attention beyond partisan politics.

For many stakeholders, the issue is not whether Governor Nwifuru deserves political support.

Rather, it is whether public institutions should be perceived as participating in the process of generating such support.

Some commentators have argued that the strongest endorsement any political leader can receive is the voluntary confidence of citizens expressed at the ballot box.

Viewed from that perspective, questions naturally arise whenever state institutions appear connected to organised political endorsement campaigns.

Political analysts say the controversy has also exposed a broader concern about governance culture in the state.

In recent months, reports of endorsement gatherings involving various social, professional, and community groups have become increasingly common.

While such endorsements are not unusual in Nigerian politics, critics argue that concerns begin to emerge when public officials, civil servants, educational institutions, or government-funded structures are perceived to be involved.

For the PDP, this is where the Governor's role becomes central.

The party argues that if Governor Nwifuru believes in the independence of institutions, he should publicly discourage any practice that creates the impression that universities, schools, ministries, agencies, or public servants are being drawn into partisan political activities.

The opposition maintains that silence on such allegations risks creating the perception of approval.

The controversy has also generated questions within the university community itself.

Several stakeholders have reportedly expressed concerns about what they describe as the gradual erosion of the traditional boundaries separating academic administration from partisan politics.

Education advocates warn that universities derive their credibility not from their closeness to power but from their ability to maintain intellectual independence from it.

This reality has prompted renewed calls for key stakeholders to clarify their positions.

Questions are now being directed at the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the Student Union Government (SUG).

Do these bodies consider the reported mobilisation compatible with the ideals of a modern university?

Do they believe educational institutions should participate in political endorsement activities?

And if they disagree with such practices, why has there been little public resistance?

Beyond the university environment, the debate is increasingly becoming a referendum on the future of public institutions in Ebonyi State.

Should government institutions remain politically neutral?

Should public servants be insulated from partisan expectations?

Should educational establishments maintain a clear separation from political campaigns?

These are the questions now dominating public discourse.

Meanwhile, the PDP insists that the issue transcends party politics and concerns the preservation of institutional integrity.

The party argues that once public institutions become associated with partisan objectives, public confidence in their neutrality may begin to decline.

Supporters of the government, however, may contend that political leaders often receive endorsements from various groups and organisations as part of the democratic process.

Yet even among neutral observers, one question continues to persist:

Where should the line be drawn between legitimate political support and the perceived deployment of public institutions for political purposes?

As pressure mounts for clarification, attention is increasingly shifting to Governor Nwifuru himself.

Will the Governor publicly distance his administration from the allegations?

Will he reaffirm the independence of universities and other public institutions?

Or will the silence continue to fuel speculation about the extent of official involvement?

For now, those questions remain unanswered.

But in the court of public opinion, they may ultimately become more significant than the endorsement activities that first triggered the controversy.

Governor Francis Nwifuru has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to
Ebonyi state of adequate security of their lives and enabling environment to discharge their national service.

Nwifuru gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 NYSC Batch B, Stream 1 corps members posted to Ebonyi, noting that security was one of his adminstration's top priorities.

The governor represented by the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Mr Hillary Obiesie, maintained that Ebonyi Is one of the safe destinations in Nigeria

"My administration realises that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment of peace and security.

"This realisation continues to guide our policies and investments in security architecture, community engagement and protection of lives and property,"

He said that the safety which Ebonyi provides, enables residents, investors, visitors and young professionals seeking opportunities; to grow and excel.

"International travel advisories including those issued by the United State of America did not designate Ebonyi among high-risk locations.

"This reflects the relative peace, stability and security that have become defining factors of our state.

"This is also a teastament of the collective efforts of our security agencies, traditional institution and law--abiding citizens,"

He urged the corps members to let their service year be defined by excellence, discipline, innovation and genuine commitment to positive change.

"You should be ambassadors of unity, agents of development and examples of values that would move Nigeria forward,"

The NYSC Coordinator in Ebonyi, Mrs Maidariya Malgwi disclosed that 1,160 corps members comprising 561 males and 599 females have been duly registered and ready to take the service oath of allegiance.

Malgwi welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi, informing them that the orientation course marks the beginning of a defining chapter of their lives.

"I encourage you to participate actively in all camp activities and embrace the opportunities of learning, personal development, discipline and upholding the ideals of the corps,"

Mr Patrick Jacobs, one of the corps members thanked God for granting them safe trip to Ebonyi and pledged to contribute his quota to the state's development.
