Malaria in children esp under 5 children is not something to joke with, if they will quarantine your child, pls so be it...so long as he will be okay, act soon so it doesn't get complicated..is he stooling and vomiting? If yes, get him some ORS and make sure u get the temp down with tepid sponging and pcm/tynelol before reaching the hospital, he has to see the paediatrician as many things could cause fever in children, the tonsils will be checked and more.... Don't panic, just do the right thing soon...Waiting for antimalarials from Nigeria will mean starting treatment Monday of Tuesday if he has malaria which is a big NO..

Mamas in the house please help. I'I've been following this thread since November. After I made all arrangement to deliver in El paso, I lost the baby.

Last month I felt I was pregnant again but I started having cramps, I felt I had lost the baby. I did a PT serum test it came back negative. I did an ultra sound and iI'm the fetus was there.

I waited seven days and retook the test, it is still negative, meanwhile ultrasound says baby is 7 weeks.

A beg, anyone with this kind of experienc e please share, I am feeling seriously fustrated, am I pregnant or not?

Hi, sorry about your previous experience and recent confusion...
Go see an Ob/Gyn Doctor as soon as possible, but certainly, the Ultrasound scan will be repeated to re-ascertain the current state of your pregnancy, serum PT isn't very reliable in early stages of pregnancy this is because it measures the amount of the pregnancy hormone (HCG) in your blood and most times, it wouldn't have risen to an appreciable level at 7 weeks to be detected in urine or blood, could vary in some people though..
Just relax and see your Doctor..

Important things to ship

1. Baby foods. Similac, gerber and enfamil are very expensive in Nija. You can ship what your baby will eat for the first 6 months or 1 year if possible.

2. Baby clothes and wears can also be bought. Buy more of age 3 months and above. 0 to 3 months become useless quickly. He also got lots of that as gift.

In summary,you can source good products locally,its not all items that is worth shipping. Congrats for all the successful visas and POE stories. One love.

On your way out, you show them @ the tax refund point & they give you what the form states. That's all.

I booked emirates with the 22 hrs layover where dey gave me and my party each complimentary hotel accommodation (separate rooms). . 4 xce meals tickets. .n visas. .we can actually do a quick still into dubai city while wifey rests thru b4 we do the direct 16hrs journey to dallas.
My take us, if u are not booking the direct flight from naij..a, tk one with long enough layover were u can really rest n refresh will b4 continuing ur journey. .by d way, dubai dallas n abj dallas is just an additional 2 hrs.

And just to add to the whole US system, a board certified family physician isn't restricted to a particular group of patients..Family medicine entails rotations in all the departments and the consultant could choose to have a fellowship in obgyn, surgery etc where he will be licensed to perform some procedures esp CS, deliveries, etc in obgyn..He is still certified and not doing over sani per se, as that cannot be tolerated in the US health system, they are highly regulated, and litigation rate is high, no Dr would want to be litigated.

However, no matter what, some Drs will still do wrongs things anywhere they find themselves if they have poor ethical conduct. For this Dr in question, if he did that to the above said woman, she has every right to do as it pleases her cos that is outright misconduct. A good Dr is he/she that knows his/her strengths and weaknesses despite professionalism and should take responsibility for all actions taken.

As stated too, trained midwives do excellently in deliveries and will immediately refer to an Obstetrician in cases of imminent complications or high risk pregnancies, we have the right to choose the Dr to use as we have individual preferences, but study carefully and know what will suite u best..

I always wish everyone the BEST of care in this American journey but having a tangible bad review for any Dr, hospitall, airline, accomodation, or POE is a red flag for me in any case as this birthing journey will have to be worth it at the end of the day..

Akindolz, congratulations dear. Make I do pack my load dey come over before they will change their system. By the way, do they realise how much we put into their system? If our system is so good , personally I won't be coming over. I never liked the UK, most of my Vacations are done in the US.

Secondly, my hospital here had mentioned to me very early in my pregnancy that I should keep down a minimum of 3 million naira for delivery in case of NICU. NICU that hardly saves babies born unless they are in their 7th month. Please! 3 million naira is 15,000 dollars at least. For me, its all about the medicals first before the pali thingy.

They should just bear with us. It's not easy for us too.
A friend delivered her twins at 24 weeks. One survived and today, he's a bubbling boy. This was all possible because she gave birth whilst in the US. If it had happened here, those babies would have gone down the soakaway. As long as the person can afford to pay her bills, they should help us save our babies. We want the best medical care possible which unfortunately, we can't get here in Nigeria, at least for now.

Rubella test is a part of a test called TORCH test (Torch diseases are detected by this test), and it's an acronym for the following diseases:

Toxoplasmosis

Toxoplasmosis is a parasite that typically enters the body through the mouth.

Rubella

It is also possible for the fetus to become infected in the uterus. Severe symptoms of the nervous system due to this infection typically appear during the baby’s second week of life.

When this test includes testing for syphilis, it is referred to as a TORCHS test.

While it is typically done on newborns, this test is also ordered if a woman shows symptoms for any of these diseases during pregnancy, however, its not bad having it as a routine investigation esp. in early pregnancy when organs are just forming.

As we all know, it's not a routine investigation in Nigeria largely due to the cost and of course unavailability of reagents etc..but it's been requested mostly in women that have recurrent abortions to rule out any of these infections.it's about 80k thereabout.

The test itself screens for antibodies to the diseases, and can provide information as to whether an individual has been recently infected, has had a past infection, or has never been exposed to the infection.

Newer tests for these infections have been developed in other countries that are more sensitive and specific than the TORCH test. As a result, the TORCH test is becoming less common. Antibodies can take weeks to develop, and since the test relies on finding antibodies, diagnosis can be delayed.

The choice is yours, there's no harm in doing it if u feel it's important, the choice is absolutely yours just like the hearing test.
Once an infection is found, the appropriate treatment can be given.

Irrespective of a pending immigrant application your non immigrant visa cannot be cancelled IF you have not contravened the terms upon which the visa was issued.e.g Overstaying in the US or working with a visitors visa. so the letter is in order. Answer to Question number 2 depends on what USC mean so you can recap. cheers

You regret using an agent when u want to reschedule your trip. I always bought from airlines direct in the past till I used an agent last year form Delta ticket to US, we paid 160k for my hubby and I to reschedule cos there was a fare difference and al, that .Delta couldn't do anything about it.

Ashamed ke! I strongly believe my experience was a testimony( but won't bore u guys with the details), whoever says am lazy, weak, bla bla bla, Na them get their mouth! No one knows how ones delivery will be except God,as long as mum and baby are alive, we have be every reason to be thankful! I remember that day with tears rolling down my eyes and keep shouting thank you lord!

O my dear it's pure ignorance! So many people esp in Nigeria are educated but ignorant.. CS has nothing to do with strength, as if all conditions are favorable, the laziest woman on earth can have a successful v delivery but it goes beyond that.
Even in hospitals, some women vehemently refuse cs during ANC when advised, but it's all part of the ignorance..
God made a way out to bring children into the world, VD or CS and we should be grateful for that.
May God grant us successful delivery as we plan for our trip..
