So, two states are on my mind, plateau state or gombe.

I really want input of individuals on this issues:

Cost of living

Availability of jobs

Security

Acceptability of strangers, and many more.


Which state do you guys think is ok, I'm really in need of a good job.

Go to Kano. Kano is far way better and u tend to secure job faster

OP did i just hear you say good job in Plateau or Gombe state? There is only one good company in Jos, Nasco pays graduates 40k others are Swan paint pays lower than Nasco, in Gombe there is only Ashaka cement, they don't mostly have vacanies. There are no jobs in the North not to talk of good jobs, i will advice you to stay in Lagos or move to other southern states if you have free accomodation, but if you are hell bent on moving to North, then move Jos and do small business but be careful, Jos is home to religious crisis.

Both areas are danger zones. You better remain where you are for now and do your hustle without doubts about your security.

The comments I am seeing on this thread now helps me to make sense of what a top civil servant said to me recently.

Southerners keep looking for money when they are young and thus hardly find the civil service attractive. Then they now cry later when the Northerners, who mostly go into the civil service, now start taking leadership positions in future.

Southern youths' love for money, independence and disregard for hierarchical authority is why they lag behind the North in leadership....shikena!

I started my career in Jos, I stayed around Rukuba Road and was teaching in a private secondary school at the same time I was going to school in UJ.
After my education, I moved through the north a little bit and today, I am still in the north and with a stable FG job
One thing I observed while in Jos was that the people are wonderfully friendly, especially if you're a Christian living in Christian area!
But the only thing the Plateau people will not share with you is the government job, both the state and federal.

How then did you get one?

If you have a skill say carpentry, mechanic, construction, etc there are opportunities for you as many northerners are not into hand work. Apart from that I think Lagos is better in terms of job opportunity.

I think Owerri or Asaba or Uyo will be the best for you....

Great OP, I av stayed in both state and I think once U have a gud skill or service U would make it, Gombe is the commercial centre of the North East and has opportunities like NGO and business wise though was better under Dankwambo Hassan, food e.g watermelon, fura da nono and house rent is relatively cheap but few place to flex on weekends aside G connect, Mc Cornels in Yallanguruza, Rocket, Macquis, Chaz Tela, Maidugu.
Plateau is relatively peaceful, weather is very chill, people are hospitable to strangers, if you have �, relaxation and chilling spots fit suck ur savings cos owambe everytime like south e.g Chillers, Steffans, Dimples lounge, Carlene, Crest. rest point for people traveling from South to far North. Foods like Irish, vegetables, fruuts is very cheap. The IGR comes from businesses and agriculture, presence of FG is low compared to Gombe.
Better still look for other means to get VISA and jappa

I wouldn't advice you to go to Home because of their route is been watched by Buhari kinsmen.


But as for Jos we have Muslim dominated areas likewise Christian dominated areas too due to the religious differences so going to Jos you will have to stay in Jos North , because the heart of Jos North is safe somehow is a Christian dominated area.

I will advice you , if you are a Christian do not stay in a Muslim dominated area , I mean do not stay in a Muslim dominated area, and if you are a Muslim also do not stay in a Christian dominated area, but in time of business everything is normal with the both parties.

I am from Gombe and my mom is from Plateau. I grew up in Gombe but I've been in Jos for the past 10yrs or so. Take this from me: there are no Jobs in either states, you can only survive if you engage in one form of business or another. Whereas competition is fierce in Jos should you chose to venture into any business, it is (competition) relatively non existent in Gombe, because, to some degree, Gombe still a virgin state. On security, Gombe is a much calmer state, it's the safest in the whole of North-East.
When it comes to weather, Plateau has the best, it's has arguably the best weather in the country.
Food is cheaper in Jos too because they farm almost everything within the state.
Accommodation wise, I'll say house rent rates are almost the same in both states.
In conclusion, if you're a club/party/women freak, Jos is the best place for you. You know what they say; All work without play........ Gombe is boring AF. Cheers

I am actually from Middle belt and I served in Oyo state.
I want to inform you that there are more opportunities in the west here than north. I am yet to travel home since I finished my service. Please don't go to the north oo. The insecurity alone is enough to bring you back home.
Just try Agric business.

From Lagos to Gombe. The states I don't like at all are Benue and Edo. These two states are just somehow to live in if you truly want to hustle.

I was born and raised in Plateau and an indigene of the state, but I have moved fully to the south West, I shuttle between Oyo and Lagos state.
You firstly need to pray to God for guidance in regarding where you need to settle down. More to that, there are moments In your life you must move out of your comfort zone to make it in life. If you feel Lagos is your comfort zone, move out and get yourself discomforted in order to make it after all, most of the business people in Jos are Southerners.
I have moved to the South west to explore so many agricultural opportunities there, in the near future, I will explode.

I will prefer to die in Lagos than to enter states that I won't sleep with my eyes close....Lagos is the most secured state in Nigeria ....there are opportunities here .,.you just 've to think outside the box. When I completed my nysc at ogbomoso....there wasn't job for me...I asked myself ...how can I 've creative...? What makes me different from someone that didn't go to school ? The answer to thus question reposition myself . I am not rich but I am comfortable. ..I am not a motivational speaker ...but I 've to tell you exactly what I did and still doing till date ...I got myself a nice phone , start visiting car dealers stand ....I demanded to speak with manager ...they all allow me to snap and start advertising on nairaland and jiji....I started earning commission ....in my place of residence I gave them my business card in the community meeting ...atleast they all know what I do for a living ...,in 3 months I supplied 10 corolla to a residence who just moved to Abuja ...he is using those corolla for uber business in Abuja ...just yesterday , he contacted me to supply one more corolla for him but his budget was 2million ...I am working on it right now...There is room for growth ...I just told you how I started ....right now I just sit thst and receive phone calls from client demanding for cars....Aside this, I also get involved in real estate....someone from my estate sold his house for 45million ....I brought the buyer ....this I did by contacting some of my people abroad ....describing the property and how valuable it is....I am still searching for properties for others . One good thing about this business us tgat ...one of those you help get a property can introduce about 5 more people that need such ...I wish you good luck...I don't play with my security .

Farming on the Plateau needs good capital. From renting the farmland, to tilling, purchase of seedlings which could be expensive especially Irish. Most places needs fertilizers which aren't cheap and diverse of agro-chemicals for you to reap tangibly. Human labour isn't free as you can't do the entire farm work all alone.

..... My honest advise bro is... Be patient, work hard and leave 9ja all together..... If you are hard working and honest, u will earn good cash abroad...... Leaving Lagos for Jos is like jumping from Keke napep to okada..... Na the same rope hold the 2 of them......

Gombe is better.. u can get a good job easily
