I have been working on stopping the consumption of Coca-Cola, Ronaldo has encouraged me. It used to be Coke after every meal but now I have gone for several days without the addiction and these has reinforced my belief that I can quit or cut down to the barest minimum

it's both ways. The Coca-Cola in front of him would have also tarnished his personal brand and the numerous brand he represents as a healthy eating athlete. Also he doesn't have a deal with the company. So why the free advert?

Yeah, I watched the whole incident and fallout since.

Its a difficult one but the times are changing and public influencers are becoming more active in the way society runs.

I quite agree with Ronaldo's position. There is a growing awareness of the tragedy the consumption of sugar causes in public health and I can see it becoming a controled substance in modern societies in the not to distant future when the cost to lives hit a certain dangerous degree.

But I do feel sympathy for both UEFA/FIFA and the bottling company (no pun intended). They have been jolly partners for many years now and it is sad to see them suffer from an 'innocent' rebuke by one of the leading men.

However if anyone can remember the heady days when world cup stadiums were packed with bold adverts of 'Camel', 'Malboro' and the likes will realise how quickly things can get rough and how fierce these battles can be.

Posterity will surely remember CR7 as perhaps the arsonist in chief.
