The first thing to bear in mind is, with investments, there is no such thing as a little investment. You do not need millions to start investing, you can start where you are. Once you've established a savings culture that allows you set a substantial amount aside, and your mindset with regards to investment is intact, then you can invest.

Be sure to grow your skillset to help you earn more, then know what your risk appetite is, before delving into investment. We'll advise beginners to start with a low-risk form of investment such as mutual funds, treasury bills. The reason being that they are low risk and they have good returns when allowed to mature for the minimum holding period.

If you are looking for where to begin, our fintech app Ziing can earn you good returns while you save and invest in our variety of funds available. You can begin with as low as one thousand naira and you'll earn up to 10% Return On Investment per annum.

SOME SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ABACUS MONEY MARKET FUND AND VGIF

Similarities:

They are both mutual funds and Low risk investments compare to stocks
Interest is earned daily, accrued and can be reinvested.
Capital and interest are guaranteed.
Redemption for both is 72hrs or less.
Opening account for both is same method and requirements.
Both funds can be invested in for minors
Bothe products accounts can be monitored online and with app.
ACCOUNT FOR BOTH FUNDS CAN BE OPENED BY CLICKING THE LINK ON MY SIGNATURE

Differences:

Abacus is money market fund while VGIF is fixed income
Rate of VGIF is benchmarked with SDF and can only change if the CBN changes SDF and will only take effect July 1st or January 1st. Rate for abacus is daily valued.
Underlying assets for Abacus are basically treasury bills and commercial papers; for VGIF it’s FGN bonds, some corporate bonds with very insignificant portion in stocks
Interest is paid twice a year for VGIF but quarterly for Abacus
Minimum withholding period for VGIF is 180days (6months) and 30 days ( 1month) for Abacus
Minimum initial deposit for VGIF is 50,000 and for Abacus is 1,000

Please how do you calculate the interest for Abacus MMF .... for example if the interest is 6.25%, is it per year or per month?

How do you calculate that please?

Interest on all SEC regulated investments is per annum. This is what now get prorated base on tenors and the investment product.

For Abacus MMF, the per annum interest is prorated to a daily interest which accrued and will be paid to you or reinvested quarterly.

Using the rate given, 6.25% per annum it means per day interest will be 6.25/365 ie 0.01712% per day.

So for investor who invested 1,000,000 the interest per annum is 1000000x6.25/100 which gives 62,500

Then per day interest will be 62,500/365days which gives 171.23 for 1day.

It’s this daily interest that will accrued to you and be paid each quarter.

I hope this helps.

Emma, remember that interest rate is not stable. It fluctuates. So the 6.25% interest rate of today may turn to 18% or 3% tommrrow.

Of course I know. Calculation is base on the instance he gave assuming it's 6.25% right now. Practically interest is valued base on treasury bills performance.
With the current realities rates are on their way up. Earlier in the week Abacus was 6.39, it's 6.61as at yesterday.

Please does the SFS fund guarantee my initial invested capital?

Does it pay daily interest like other MMF?

What is the management fee?

Can I close my account any time?

Thanks

1.5% but note the rate on your investment is net of management fees. ie whatever rate you see displayed, all fees already deducted.
Yes you can close your account any time. You only lose 10% of your accrued interest if the closure is before 30 days otherwise you have nothing to lose. It's also good to note that Abacus account doesn't go dormant. You can fund it any time no matter how long.

Absolutely,

Just like other mutual funds providers like axamansard, investment one and others, your invested capital does not reduce it only adds interest and you can withdraw at any time.
