If you go back a few pages, you'd see where I commented on their opening match, he was always in and around the box while the match was tied but as soon as he stepped back into midfield, he gave a nice pass that unlocked the defense of Hungary...He is too goal conscious, he should do more as an AMF...

It’s not about minutes played or fatigue. He is not very tactically aware of what his position needs. He plays big teams the same way he plays small teams, which is why his play often struggles in big games.

With the way Germany was dominating the midfield he should have dropped into the midfield properly to help those 2 statuesque midfielders that were struggling to move the ball forward.
