Naija now is not what you read that determine your future carrier. I've discovered that thus that study highly competitive courses and most difficult courses are the jobless graduate. Just pray to God for destiny helper, learn handwork before graduating, and have a small business. Don't wait for White collar job if your uncle is not a politician.

I am currently a 300 Level studying, I rarely see advert that says Bachelor Degree in Physics.
The closest to engineering degree is physics, just make the most of what you're studying. Lady luck could smile on you after graduating. Industries like Telecom place engineering and Physicists side by side. Try as much as possible to get a 2:1. And if things don't go your way eventually you could explore M.sc in IT and pick up some programming skills. Hope I helped?

none! in nigeria any course you study is useless without connection to get a good job.even medicine.if you study physics in nigeria.it is most certain that you would end up as a teacher in a private school with a meagre salary.
You are absolutely right.

I studied Physics Electronics from a prestigious university in the North Central, Nigeria, but presently in to Building/Interior Design and most of my mates are working as a classroom teachers or factory workers; my dear.... Study a professional course.

How did you manage to get a good grade with this kind of grammar??
Mr man we are not on nairaland to write grammer.even an English man can fail English language exam waec...it is not easy typing or writing in english which have long sentences so short hand , abbreviations comes handy.

Any course in Nigeria is a useless course trust me,there are lots of medical doctors and pharmacist out there that are not doing well. Uncle Buhari in his own words said "you can graduate with good grades from a good school and still not get a job". So what you need is God's grace.
Re: Is Studying Physics Actually A Useless Course In Nigeria? by billyG(m): 12:27pm On Jul 12, 2021
With physics degree just do master in geophysics & U will be sort after.

We are in the 21st century where studying a particular course should not limit you only within the confines of your country. If your are within the top 2% of your class, even if you have lesser opportunities in Nigeria you can go global. Improve your skills in all facets of life computer programming skill, leadership skills and pop into USA market where such skills are really needed in abundance, this you can easily do via graduate school. Register for the GRE exams, since you have few years before post NYSC , try and ACE it within these few years you have and watch funding go your way. That you see people studying your course and struggling doesn't mean your course isn't a hot cake elsewhere, be open and be positive.
N/B this mostly work for students who are within the top 2 % in their academics.

Like some comments have already alluded above.. Most physics and chemistry grads end up becoming secondary school teachers. Sad but it's what it is.

You obviously have no idea what Physics is all about. Elon Musk studied Physics. Physics is not an end in itself but rather a means to an end. You don't know what advantage you have getting to study orbital mechanics and several other topics in physics. I am currently self studying math, chemistry and physics for my future enterprise.

First note that job adverts this days don’t select course butt only your vast knowledge and experience in that opening available in vacancy.

Second, I studied pure and applied physics, doing my masters in naval architecture, and currently working in an IT coy ( did a data science course here)

You can do anything as a physicist because you are well grounded in the basis of engineering and IT

Don’t let anyone send you back to the village.

I have my mates working in airtel, Shell, airpeace, and a host of others doing well abroad by furthering in physics branches like astrophysics, material physics, marine engineering and geophysics

Don’t let anyone fool you.

Cheers

I think its a great course with lotsa potential outside Nigeria. What you need to do is to get a great result and apply for scholarships abroad upon graduation. Do not relent, you're on a good path if you have a passion it anyway.

No course is useless at the end of the day. However, certain courses do not favour the less privilege. At 300 level, how's your performance? Do you have money to explore? Do you have a family abroad or at least a good grade for a scholarship or something? If you don't have any of this, the hard truth is that you may have to settle for a low or mid paying job, most likely a Physics teacher.

With good grades, you can get a job in at least 10 unrelated sectors, including banking. With money, you can become anything you want, with or without your Physics.

Add some elements of IT knowledge and programming to your pouch.

Specialize in Geophysics where the branches are many and you can carve a niche for yourself.

Never get discouraged.

Physics as a course is the bedrock of science and engineering.

My son graduated with a second class upper at Unilag, did his masters in physics at Unilag, got employed by AXA as a back end programmer for about 18 months, and presently on scholarship in the United State as a graduate assistant in a university and also studyibg for PhD in physics all paid for by the States.

The gospel truth is that, you must first have passion for what you do to be able to excel in it.
Understand the course very well, you could become an inventor. Physics is beautiful

thanks for the input sir, please sir if you dont mind i have some questions to ask your son,i just started learning programming language,i will appreciate if he can answer some of my questions , thank you sir

Physic is not useless, Bro.

That it didn't favour some people doesn't mean yours will be the same.

Physic is basis for all engineering.
In Nigeria, You'll find opportunities in solar industries, engineering services ( this is very broad!)

I studied chemistry but work as an engineer today . If I were to go back to undergraduate for a science degree, I'd rather do physic ( but no regret)

You are a quack and a dangerous person to the society.. I hope and pray the authorities like COREN arrests and jails you.
