Please I'd like to confirm if one can use IELTS (general training type) to apply for academic programs. Do majority of institutions (US) insist on the academic IELTS or the general training type can suffice.

Thank you

How long does visa processing takes after approval at Abuja? those who recently had their interview at Abuja should please tell me
Can someone book for flight after approval?
Please I am eagerly expecting your response.

I applied for emergency in Abuja last week Monday and got approval this morning. However, the earliest date is August 18. I am hoping better days will pop up. Please I got the warning that the number of times I can check the site is almost exhausted, does anyone know the number of times one can access the site and does it get locked when exhausted

NigPatriot:

First of all, congrats on your admission. I had to look at your profile and test score and I'm surprised your funding is nil for your program. To be honest, for your program, I'm not sure whether it's a PhD or something in between because reading from your transcript the disparities are not spelt out. - you need to find a better way to explicitly talk about your program in such a way that a "lame" man can get the basics.

Also, You spoke about having an employment on campus already, I know that's plausible - but I'm hoping you have some sort of document or email to back it up. (One tip for the embassy is don't say what you cannot defend)

Secondly, you never stated about anything about your thesis, or won't you be undergoing any thesis? Defining and explaining your thesis tells the genuineness of a student from a VOs perspective. (Especially research based programs )

Thirdly your mum and your sister, you have to know what state they're in, what they're currently doing and how they got into the US. Trust me you'll be asked these.

I wish you luck.

Thank you very much! Please I am going to send you a mail with an update. Thank you

[quote author=Samuel5555 post=103628129]Me: Good morning

VO: Good morning, place your fingers there for me.

Me: Alright.

VO: Pass me your i-20, passport and DS-160.

VO: Of course. So, I see you are going to the University of Arkansas for your masters.

Me: Yes, masters in Mechanical Engineering.

VO: Alright, what did you study in your undergrad?

Me: Same Mechanical Engineering, here in Nigeria.

VO: I see you were here June 1st with another course of study and another school?

Me: Yes, my plan was to take the rehabilitation counseling online and after my admission i was given a 50% GA with a condition to resume on campus for the GA to be valid and reflect on my porter by then other schools i applied to with my main area of specialization said the is currently no funding. So when i came to the embassy i could not demonstrate how it relates to my undergraduate i was denied and two weeks after i got another offer in my undergraduate course with a tuition waiver. So i decided to come back, maybe later do the rehabilitation counseling online after my return to Nigeria.

VO: What do you do currently?

Me: Am into maintenance and configuration of point of sale terminals with Zenith Bank

VO: how many schools did you apply to?

Me: i applied to 4 schools of which are UA, MTSU UALR and SCSU. I got admission from 3

VO: why this school?

Me: outside the graduate assistantship which covers my tuition, I was fascinated by the current research in the department by Dr. Andrew Wright which is Mechatronics Design which align best with my future career goal.

VO: Alright. What will this program do for you?

Me: This degree from the US will give me an in-depth practical skills which will in turn place me in a very competitive positive in the Engineering Design industry. After the program am coming back to Nigeria to take a research assistant position with NADDC national automobile design and development council here in Abuja.

VO: cuts in.. is that a federal government agency

Me: Yes. The sore aim is to initiate, recommend, supervised and regulate policies and programmes for a locally manufactured vehicles and it's components. Now we have just lunched electric cars in Nigeria.

VO: What's your research interest

Me: Mechatronics Design and i will be working with Dr. Andrew Wright

VO: Alright. Tell me about your study plan

Me: the program is for two years and i will be taking a 34 credits load, also i will be taking 9 credit this semester of which the courses are advance thermodynamics, Mechanical Vibration and Hear transfer.

VO: Who is paying for your trip

Me: I have a tuition waiver with a stipend but the deficit will be handled by my uncle

VO: Where does he live?

Me: Benin City, here in Nigeria.

VO: what does he do?

Me: he is into sales of industrial building equipments and a major distributor of bua cement

VO: i will be approving your Visa.

Me: thank you.
Please help a frien

You can chill till tomorrow to check for near dates, you still have enough time before your emergency approval expires.

To be on the safe side, check the CGI portal thrice a day. As you have received a warning today, quit the site and log back in tomorrow to check if you will get a closer date. cheers.

What day is your program start date I have a regular appointment on the 16th of august for Abuja and my program start date is that same 16th of august while classes start on the 23rd of august is it possible for me to still be able to join them this fall in case I don’t get an emergency appointment? Do I have to be in the US before the program start date or before classes start this fall aren’t there any flexibilities put by the US government to solve this problem?

Communicate your situation with your school. Most schools usually give at least one week grace after the start of classes. An approval letter usually comes with this which you will show at the point of entry.

The program start date is for you to attend the orientation which I know some schools usually reschedule for some students who will be resuming late. So all these questions should be directed to your school so as to have first hand information.

What happens to the Emergency request if I reschedule the normal appointment date before hearing back from the embassy.

Would it be cancelled

Yes.

I'm new to all this and I'm not getting proper guidance from anybody.

I booked the normal date 2024 so I can get emergency option for over two to three weeks now no response.

So I rescheduled to June 2022 thinking I might get another option for emergency now I can't find emergency option and also can't find any reschedule option.

What do I do next?

It is claimed that VO looks at individual VISA categories separately with your current interview it is better to ensure your previous history tally. I mean B1/B2 if you are currently going for B1/B2 or F1/F2 if you are currently going for F1/F2. it is better to ensure your history tally in all categories so they make reference to histories. For security reasons there are some things I can't share here so let's leave it like that. Best![/quoteplease what is the probability rate of visa approval when you switch from B1/B2 to F1/F2 for MSc

Hello sir.
1.Reschedule Appointment
2.Emergency Request
3.Cancel Appointment.

All the above can only be used once.

You booked Regular dates for Lagos, 2024. Then Initiated the ER. Yet to get a response to your ER, you Rescheduled your appointment again to 2022.
@1.2. has been exhausted left with only (3).
Way forward:
Wait for a response to the Emergency request
Or
Pay a new visa fee. Switch to Abuja. Pick a Regular date, then use the Emergency request. Draft a letter as to why you need the expedite appointment. Attach all supporting dox. Hopefully, the ER gets approved, you'd be given earlier dates to schedule your appointment. If your ER is denied, you'd have to stick with the Regular dates you booked, and keep checking if earlier dates pop up so you can use the Reschedule option.

Hope this helps.
