Dear Applicant, Your regular B appointment at the US Embassy Abuja has been cancelled. The Embassy and Consulate General continue to prioritize travelers with urgent travel needs, although regular visa appointments are made available as the local conditions allow. In response to ongoing pandemic-related service disruptions, the Department of State announced the extension of Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee validity until September 30, 2022 for individuals who paid an MRV fee, but were unable to schedule and/or attend an interview during the suspension of services. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the guidance provided at https://ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-expeditedappointment.asp to request an emergency appointment. I got this mail from the embassy today followed by a text message that says Your B1/B2 visa appointment at the US Embassy has been cancelled. Please check your email for more details. Please o...what's the implication of this message?? What should I do? My appointment date is still Intact, but I'm waiting for a response to my emergency interview request... Please someone that has been through this should answer me Biko |

Visa denied this morning at Lagos embassy. Gurus please help me take a look and suggest ways to improve. I got no funding from the university so my COA was $40K. Me: Good morning madam VO: no answer VO: Pass me your passport and i20 Me: I did VO: starts typing then asks where are you going? Me: I am going to pursue a masters degree in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska Lincoln VO: what are you doing presently? Me: I'm a poultry farmer VO: So what will this degree do for you? Me: My goal is to pursue both my masters and PhD at the same time in the same unl which I have discussed with my supervisor. After my PhD, I intend to return to Nigeria to take up a lecturing job at my alma mater. I have always been interested in teaching agriculture to students and I love to give back to my alma mater where I earned my 1st, degree. A PhD in animal science will position me as a great candidate for the job. VO: points to i20 and asked who is paying this $40000? Me: my uncle VO: what does he do? Me: he is a real estate investor, who manages my late grandfather's real estate properties in Lagos and Abeokuta. He was the one who sponsored my high school and college education and I lived with him all through my time in college. VO: How is he going to pay? Me: I have his bank statement with me as well as my late grandfathers will wherein he stated that proceeds from the real estate industry can be used for the educational programs of his children. At this time I wanted to pass the bank statement to her but she said no. VO: what type of account does he have? Me: savings VO: Does he have a US account? ME: NO. I will be the one to open the account when I get there and he will send the money into my account and then I will pay it to the school. Me: Passes the financial statements to her again VO: (She collects it and cross-check. The statement has a balance of about #30000000) VO: Okay but I'm sorry you did not qualify at this time. You can reapply. Twoods, Fairheart, lagosismyhome, other gurus, pls kindly contribute your thoughts |

Good day everyone I have some questions regarding the qatar student membership stuff that was posted earlier on this platform. I got to know that one of the benefits is having a 10kg extra baggage allowance for free. Please I would like to know how true it is and also does it apply to specific locations. Are there people on this platform that have used it and what are the necessary documents to take along to claim this at the airport. Thanks |

Tyleet:Take note of these: 1. Tell him that he has a savings of this (name the exact amount in the account). 2. Don't suggest to VO that you can show him your sponsor's statement, there is an element of losing your confidence when you do that. He can sense something. Man, my sponsor does this, and has this saving and so he's capable. 3. Stop telling stories. How your grand father wrote that his properties should be used to sponsor his children comes too unreal, unconvincing. 4. Go again and get your visa. Meanwhile, this time, go with solid one line answers and yes, a mountain of CONFIDENCE. Best, man. |

Predstan:I've watched for a while how "Prexy1999" continuously tries to discredit "Fairheart". However, what I find amusing is that "Prexy1999" comes across as a very dubious fellow to say the least. He claims to have gotten his visa in 2019 to do a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Yet he claims to have completed his PhD only after just 2 years, which is IMPOSSIBLE. Someone picked him up on this and the next thing he claimed was that he had a Masters degree from the UK, hence the speed. This is another false claim. First, on his visa interview transcript, when he was asked about his degree, he stated that he only had a Bachelors degree. Ok, let's even assume he has a masters degree. Even with a masters degree, you CANNOT complete a PhD in 2 years. It's not possible. In a PhD programme, you use the first 2 years to complete your course work before you then become a doctoral candidate and commence your dissertation. If your dissertation goes smoothly, the earliest you can complete it is in one and a half years, making it at least three and a half years at the earliest to complete a PhD program. So, Prexy1999, I will love to pose the same question to you that you have been posing to "Fairheart" all these while. Are you really a student at University of Michigan? Did you even attend the University of Michigan? Also, before you try and come back at me as is your way, let me let you know that a few of us with invaluable help from this forum were fortunate to get our visa in 2011 and have gone on to complete our masters and PhD and also worked at the University of Michigan. Personally, having to confirm your student status in the Chemical Engineering doctoral programme or which research team you are (or were) shouldn't be a problem for me. Truly, I intend to fish you out. I wouldn't make it public, but be rest assured, I will get to know the face behind "Prexy1999". |

Janet200:Sometimes, I believe that we as Nigerians fail to effectively comprehend. There's something called a "disclaimer" or "conflict of interest". Fairheart has stated on numerous occasions that if you reach out to him personally, he charges a fee, but if you state your issue(s) on the forum, he can help to the best of his ability. If you don't want to be charged a fee, then post your issues on the forum and let everyone try and help. You can only label him dubious if he swindled folks, especially under false pretext. But I haven't seen or heard of any of such to think that. |

Teophilus96:Sure. Though your GPA is nice on a scale of 4 but you should take standardized tests( GRE, TOEFL or IELTS) and ace it if you haven't done so to allow you apply to schools that didn't waive it. You should work on your CV too. A Prof in a top university once sent my CV back telling me to work on it because he wanted to nominate me for four prestigious external fellowships. |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Pefuele(m): 6:27pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
Tyleet:Sorry about the delay.Lots of mistakes on your transcripts.Wrong body Language and response: You said Masters then Masters & Phd. I wouldn't approve your VISA if I am the VO. I believe you didn't do several Mocks( like 10 mocks). They would have spotted this. Good-luck next time. |

Approvalll:It is possible for CGI to help transfer your DS-160 from Lagos to Abuja at the Embassy in Abuja but the staff strength now is light due to COVID guidelines so it will be better for you to fill another DS-160 for Abuja. Good-luck in your interview. |

Please who is experiencing a delay in their GRE? My friend has written his GRE since the beginning of the month and it’s yet to be uploaded to his profile! |

Tyleet:I haven't gone for my interview yet but one thing I've learnt from reading transcripts and watching consular interviews is that offering documents when they are not requested comes across as insincerity. Also you're a poultry farmer, and I understand you are going for a masters and want to be a lecturer. That's fine, but don't you think you should also explain to the V.O how the program may help with your current poultry farming business as well? (Given you're going for animal science) I believe that would establish some sort of tie to Nigeria however subliminal. |

Good day everyone. A friend just told me about this thread. I'm planning to start my Masters in the USA and I need a guide from the house. I studied Business Management at my first degree with a CGPA of 4.68 in 2013. I have both local and international work experience. Anyone who can help on the selection of the best school, scholarship avenues?? I would appreciate. Thanks. |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by JavanElsevier41: 6:46pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
Tyleet:Apparently you didn't prepare well. If you had presented your transcript here, people would have helped you go through it. How can you want to do masters and PhD. Do you know how many years that is?. The VO already sensed your jakpa instinct. Your statement already suggested that you want to stay back after your masters to do PhD. This already was a red flag. |

Tyleet:I think the VO might have pardoned the statement you made on from masters to PhD. I think the VOs concern was how your uncle was supposed to pay for the tuition and other fees. Nowadays, I think showing or having SOA with high volume of cash in it does not convince the VO. But, how the money can be accessed. That's why he)she asked does he have a US account. Me, I really want to know the answer to that question because that question was the decider in his case. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Tyleet: 7:19pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
JavanElsevier41:Hmm, ok, but my plan is to do a phd after my masters, why should that be a bad plan? Like I mentioned, i want to return to be a lecturer at my alma mater and a master's is not enough for that, I need a phd too. Also, I already discussed this plan with my potential supervisor who said it was sensible. So, if I told the VO I only wanted to do a masters, how would a master's benefit me upon returning to Nigeria? I wouldn't be able to use it to lecture or anything, so what would be my plan in that aspect? |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Predstan: 7:23pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
Tyleet:I understand your position here which makes perfect sense. But you didn’t present it well to the VO. If you want a PhD you can apply directly for a PhD. But going for a masters, you should discuss how your masters will prepare you well for a PhD. Focus on discussing your masters not the PhD that you haven’t been admitted for. However, I don’t think this is the cause of the denial. As a normal fellow, I wont be comfortable with how you defended your sponsorship. Refrain from long talks that’s not related to the question, you might be shooting yourself in the leg. Does your uncle have a US account? No!!! The long story about opening an account is not necessary. Your current job is not a best route to a PhD. You should relate your job to your masters admission and what you intend to do after your masters. Again, PhD is not what you are going for. You should discuss your masters degree and mention how the masters and a masters thesis is going to prepare you for a PhD position |

Tyleet:Alot of guys here have explained how to go about the visa interview, yet folks still insist on doing it their own way, using the wrong approach. If you had read previous successful visa interviews on this forum, you wouldn't have said most of the things you said. The only thing I will say to you is that your focus should be on MSc only (In my opinion), when you are in, you can choose to proceed to PhD. And when you are ask " What will the degree do for you? You should be able to explain in one or two clear sentences, what you will do with the degree. Again you should identify the challenges faced it the "animal" industry in Nigeria and how you plan to address a part of it with the skills you will gain from the program. It ok to say you want to take up academic position in your former school, but then you are not having any form of funding from the school ( In my opinion, that "line" may be weak. So you should build your case with better options by identifying challenges and how you ll address it. If you are able to deal clearly with the question above, there is going to be less scrutiny on who is paying your fees, check previous transcripts on this thread of people with no funding and how they overcome that question; your response to that and other questions that followed was just too superfluous. |
