If you were not dumb yourself, you should have known that Nok is the oldest civilization(not empire) in Nigeria followed by Igbo civilization. You can't talk about civilization of the Niger area without getting to Igboukwu immediately after Nok.

Lol u are the dumb one

Same way that nok was not an Empire is the same way Igbo never had an Empire

Nope

Aros a re ruled by Akampka kings to this day of the Nnubi dynasty

They sold Eegboes as slaves for centuries

I thought you said Eegboe enwe Eze

Anywhere you find Kings it is due to conquest of Igala, Edo, Akampa etc

They are a tribe who don't have a leader and are Republican but they have monarchical system that is of the same pattern with the Benin who they regard as inferior grin

One day, we'll talk abt if the Igbos were completely Republican as they say grin

Our pattern of settlement lends credence to our Republican nature. Every decision we make goes through many layers of deliberations; umu okpu( daughters of the land and very powerful) , ndi Nze na Ozo and its many categories( initiated noble class) , age grades , Eze ani ( head of customs and traditions) etc. These groups ensures checks and balance in dispensation of justice in many parts of Igbo land.

Bros , Igbo culture is so colorful by how everybody plays a role. For instance , I can challenge the position of our traditional ruler and call his bluff....but can you ever try that in Bini even if everyone knows the Oba is wrong. Dont you guys call him the "god"...for our philosophy , thats too much power given to one man who is probably not the wisest in the land. But , I respect your culture, still.

All of you are dumb.
Igbos don't have an empire and Nok is not also an Empire but they are the oldest civilization in Nigeria so that dropping of nok in that article is historical inaccurate.

The article could have gone on to mention the empires of Nigeria without falsely adding Nok which is not an empire.
When it comes to civilization, Nok precede Igboukwu and the rest follow.

... to hear an account of the Benin massacre of 1897 and its sequel from one who had taken part. It is a story that still has power to amaze and horrify, as well as to remind us that the British had motives for pushing into Africa other than the intention to exploit the natives and glorify themselves. Here, for instance, are some extracts from the diary of a surgeon who took part in the expedition.:- 'As we neared Benin City we passed several human sacrifices, live women slaves gagged and pegged on their backs to the ground, the abdominal wall being cut in the form of a cross, and the uninjured gut hanging out. These poor women were allowed to die like this in the sun. Men slaves, with their hands tied at the back and feet lashed together, also gagged, were lying about. As we neared the city, sacrificed human beings were lying in the path and bush—even in the king's compound the sight and stench of them was awful. Dead and mutilated bodies were everywhere — by God! May I never see such sights again! .

And they were never non Igbo. AKum Nnubi an Akpa man, was honored initially for his role in helping Aro win the Ibibios with Eze Aro title.

We don't have issue with your Bini fairy tales.
In Igboland, Bini stories are known as fairy tales.
Our ancestors were amused by them. They couldn't understand why a fat not so brilliant man with Entourage of wives should be rulling a people and the people happily accepted.
It sounded unreal to them. They couldn't phantom such possibility.
It sounded like madness grin

Hence when some one tells a stupid non-plausible story, we say they are saying "Akuko Idu n'Oba" grin.

We don't tell you how stupid and weak we find your Monarchical system, because we generally mind our business.

But since the likes of Reno and you cannot feel good about yourselves unless you pokenose into Igbo history, we will henceforth tell you the ugly Truth we normally don't.

O kwa having a king and incorporating small edoid groups that paid tributes to them is what makes them an empire.
I wonder what they will say to Musa Mansa and his empire that had many West African countries under their control including parts of Northern Nigeria. Or is it the Roman and British Empire.

No be only Benin empire. At most what we have in Nigeria are just small kingdoms.

The simple truth is this was a pattern of narrative used by colonialist across Africa to justify their intervention
If they could lie about weapons of mass destruction in the 21st century they could and did about other things elsewhere

They used Cannibalism as a pretext in other places especially in Ibo land e.g Arochukwu
