Pls break down your weekly feeding expenses, maybe I will learn something new or know if my wife is cheating financially which I doubt.

That's what I spend weekly and it's never enough, I stay in ph so maybe you factor that in.
Rent alone arround woji for 2 bedroom is 600k.

I have a wife, 2 kids and a maid.

Let us see your weekly feeding expenses

Rent is the biggest necessary expense if you live in Abuja, Lagos, or ph.

I cannot give you a breakdown of my weekly feeding expenses. However, your wife is definitely cashing out heavily on you. Wives always do that. Go to market and get the price of food items.

One week is 7 days. Only 7 days! No where in Nigeria is food items that expensive. Something is definitely wrong somewhere.

Someone earns about 400k monthly which is suppose to be a very good salary, but his expenses despite frugal is not cutting it.. he has been advised on marriage countless times, but he does not just know how to support such. He tries to make people see reason as to why the "big boy tag" does not fit because he cant see it at all..

- his job prevents me from cooking and he really does not know how to cook either, really really bad at cooking.
- he stays in an apartment of 1m/annum, which is somewhat not luxury I think.

Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed)
Security - 5,000 monthly
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly
Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Laundry - 10,000 monthly
Feeding - 77,500 (2,500/day)
Hangout/chills/network - 30,000 (7,500/week)
Clothing/wears/accessories - 10,000 (monthly)
Electricity bill - 10,000(monthly)
Gifts - 10,000(monthly- No wife/No GF)
Home maintenance/personal care- 10,000 (monthly)
Healthcare miscellenous - 5,000 (monthly)
Internet data - 10,000 (monthly)
Recharge card - 16,000 monthly (500 daily)

Total = N395,200
Savings - 7,800

How in the world would he explain to people that he does not have. He is an introverted character and a very frugal in finances. He didnt not factor in furnishing et all.. he has no school fees and multiple mouths to feed.

This budget needs serious review cos some expenses needs to be cutdown asap to help you save.....

Gift 10k monthly to who pls Cut it off except if on special occasion

Hangout/Chills/network 30k pls review it to 10k as no be all hangouts you go dey spend abi you be father Christmas...Save 20k

DSTV 9,500 are you always at home watching it If no change your package to a smaller budget say may be 5-6k monthly

Recharge Card trim it down its to bogus except you are using it for business or work purposes at least network providers give bonus now...

Conclusion: You are a reckless spender try to bring down your expenses so as to give room for savings...

It's not a Nigerian thing bro. Less than 25 Percent of world population have a $1000 (500k) income per month. Not to talk of your 1million benchmark. That's huge!

Your "ideal family" is utopian at best especially in the African context. Like I said, it's safe to face reality...

I beg to differ. $1K in a month cannot sustain a single individual talk more of a family in most developed economies. Anyone earning less than $12k per annum in the US is facing real poverty.

He lives a pennywise-man-foolish lifestyle. How can you be paying rents almost thrice your monthly net income?

Just look at the whole expenses listed there!

If I were earning ₦400k, I'd relocate to a flat where I can pay at maximum, ₦250k yearly (and that's because I want to have a family). A two bedroom flat is okay for a start.

I'd use my first monthly to pay it off, doing a little refurbishment too. I like to buy foodstuff in bulk so I am definitely going to spend up to ₦80k for it. If I don't have a freezer, I wouldn't bother buying goods that are too perishable. I would save for a freezer and a generator together.

I have to buy the major things so as to enable me begin to save. Sorry I didn't tell you, I don't save. I actually invest. I'd start up sth else with the saving..rather than leaving it lying adamant.

It's not a must to live a big boy life!

Look at the figures he uses to flex. To spend on top drink and woman!

So e no fit wash cloth or save up for a washing machine and drier?

Data for ₦10k? E should kuku send a CV to PornHub. Abi free WiFi no dey workplace?

Recharge card for ₦15k? Sure this uncle want to live long in this life? Even Elon Musk doesn't recharge ₦15k.

Cleaner ₦5k? En hand dey pain am? Why can't he marry and send this to his wife instead?

In fact, let me stop analysing. How old is his stupidity if I may ask?

Tell him to use the savings of ₦7800 to buy GO90 and Snipper and drink! He doesn't deserve to waste the oxygen others need. Better still, make una call Cele people to flog out the Aso-Rock demon in him.

It's nice to cloth your clothes according to your cloth size.

Estate security - 3,000 monthly in a gated estate you pay single security levy and not multiple

Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly

Security - 5,000 monthly If he relocate to another place, security won't be more than N1,500 per month. Some places in Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja pay this amount monthly basis.
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
Cleaner - 5,000 monthly 1,000 for reasonable contribution
Dstv - 9,500 monthly He should step down on his subscription plan. He has not got the family yet and how many channels does he watch? Is GOTV not better sef?
Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly: The fuel consumption is too much. What kind of car is he using, other wise I will suggest he should check the emission state of his car. I spent an average of N20,000 on fuel monthly.
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection) You may need to up the cost to N10,000. Things are now expensive
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr) I don't understand this? Which miscellaneous nitori olorun!

I live with my wife and baby in a beautiful 2bedroom apartment where I pay 180k yearly. I was able to save up from this salary to get a Nigerian used Honda Accord and I'm still able to save 30k monthly. My wife earns 40k monthly and she dies 20k contribution month with 10people.
With 400k monthly, my wife doesn't need to work again.
I will pay my wife salary of 100k every month.
Please cut your coat according to your size ooo

why should the wife be the cleaner?? lol. You people seems to assume wives are baggage but they actually add to the family income if you knew how to chose. A man earning 400k should know how to get a wife earning half of his salary. They could then pool their resources together for quality living.

U can't get 2 bedroom flat in the least of places in abuja. A one bedroom in kubwa now goes for 400k to 500k. Same in lugbe, nyanya etc. These are outskirts and not expensive areas

My friend, you are the architect of your complaint.
How do guys who have the same qualifications as you but unfortunate to earn less than 100k a month survive and still manage to save? Life is all about adaptation. Adapt bro.
Let's do a break down of your spendings and look for a way out for you.

1. Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed) My advice: relocate to a nice apartment where you pay at most, #500,000 per annum. There are good places in Lagos where you will get good value for your money in Lagos and be glad. Good neighborhood for the price.
2. Security - 5,000 monthly
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
My advice: You must be an hotcake to be paying in two places for security. Estate security and for your apartment again. My friend, leave that particular estate and move to where your total security can be paid in one place and not in different places.
4. Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
My advice: this might be necessary and it is not a bad budget for a month.
5. Dstv - 9,500 monthly.
My advice: well, from my opinion of the nature of work you do, this might be a wasteful spending. I am feeling like yo won't have the time to sit on DSTV for more than 4hrs a day and 6hrs during weekends, since you mentioned something like hangouts and chills. Bro, weigh your options, if you are just dashing DSTV some good money with subscriptions you hardly use, you need to be more philanthropical towards beggars instead.
6. Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly
I have no advice on this. You know your mobility needs better than anyone.
7. Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
I have no comment on this too.
8. Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Do you use PHCN at all abi they have forgotten your estate?
9. Laundry - 10,000 monthly.
My friend, goan buy washing machine and do your laundry yourself. Don't be too lazy to do some basic chores.
10. Feeding - 77,500 (2,500/day)
Guy, get a wife or bring one of your cousins or nieces to stay with you. That money will be halved except you consume exotics, which is good once in a while but not good for a lifestyle.
11. Hangout/chills/network - 30,000 (7,500/week)
Reduce the hangouts to one or twice a week. Invite friends over if need be or visit friends in their houses. That will cut your expenses. I am supposing you guys meet in clubs.
12. Clothing/wears/accessories - 10,000 (monthly)
This is reasonable
Electricity bill - 10,000(monthly)
Gifts - 10,000(monthly- No wife/No GF)
Home maintenance/personal care- 10,000 (monthly)
Healthcare miscellenous - 5,000 (monthly)
Internet data - 10,000 (monthly)
Recharge card - 16,000 monthly (500 daily).
Is your recharge card consumption tied to your job? If not, make whatsapp calls more frequently.

Above all, you need two ingredients to make your earnings worth living for.
1. Be more responsible with chores otherwise, even if you marry, na domestic slavery go pursue am
2. Get married to a woman who has sense.

The problem I see here is that the person in question is living life in correlation with his earnings. He needs define a certain percentage of his monthly income that is to be set aside for savings. What's left after that can then be used as running cost. There are a few things in that list that can either be completely obliterated or cut down further.

Did you say frugal in spending LOL!

Probably someone who plans to end up poor would budget like this.

First move to a smaller apartments, use the old one for air bnb.

Buy and cook your own food on weekends and stack them in freezer, you warm and eat during the week days. This will reduce your feeding expenses as well.

What sort of generator service takes up 30k monthly outside fuelling, you need to change the gen , get something smaller to run major items when you have no power.

Your cost of Landry is crazy man, that cost in 6months will get you a good washing machine duh!..

Next thing is build capacity to earn more money, outside salary and also invest in good assets.

Many people here earn way lower than this and still have bought lands, support family , further their education and invested .

Don't spend all your earnings on consumption ,cos in few years you'd wonder where all the money went to

Mo' money, mo' problem.

There are married couples who survive (how ever they "survive"wink on less than 100K/month (family income) . . . not actually a good thing, but they manage . . .

OTOH, ₦400K is just a manageable salary -- you can't live "the good life" (Nigerian/American dream) on ₦400K/month. You need a "minimum" of ₦2m/month to do that, sadly.

The whoever in question just needs to realize he hasn't "arrived" yet -- actually he his no where near that. What should he do? He should accept that ₦400K na "manageable salary", then he should start living like a hustler, saving for investments so he can earn more, going forward -- it is not going to be easy.

I rise!

Do you eat at home or you just drop whatever you like and tell wify to manage or add to it while you go out there to eat well cooked food.

A loaf of bread is 550 naira. A family of 5 will manage 1 every morning, that's our 3k from the 25k weekly feeding. What about milk and chocolate for tea. WhaT is left after deducting arround 5k for breakfast weekly.

Try to be real in your response

I beg to differ. $1K in a month cannot sustain a single individual talk more of a family in most developed economies. Anyone earning less than $12k per annum in the US is facing real poverty.

Many in the USA and other developed countries earn just around that. Check the stats. Many Americans have to take night jobs and several side hustles but still earn less than 2k dollars. Mind the fact that a reasonable portion of those earning go to tax

Not to talk of developing countries... Anyone earning 1k dollars in most parts of Africa or Asia is considered rich.

The point is that your 2k dollar benchmark is just quixotic. Many families live fine in Nigeria on 100k or less. Some families live on less than 50k and they are just ok.

Let's be modest and humble with our estimations. It will help. If you earn big, know that some people earn small and are fine. Nothing like "ideal" when it comes to earning...
