Why are so many people cant think for themselves in this country? He broke the law simple as ABC. Two wrongs don't make a right! Make una no kill unasef for these rogue politicians, they are all thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which law did he break? If you can think for yourself then instead of swallowing all that garbage from premium times, your brain should be thinking why he hasn't ever been arrested or charged with any crime by either the EFCC or CCT. He is in the opposition and one of the biggest critics of Buhari so if they have any evidence against him, why hasn't he been charged? The Premium times author is even very ignorant about the law concerning declaration of assets by political office holders. Obi didn't break any law.

If you are a NESTLE shareholder and you are contesting for a position that requires your assets to be declared, YOU MUST DECLARE YOUR NESTLE SHARES.

Assets jointly or severally held are to be declared.

It is unfortunate when politicians are found wanting and take their matter to the court of public opinion seeking from ethnic and religious SIN-PARTY.
let's say this asset is to be siezed. Would the government not consider the fact that other members are involved. Cause a shareholder with a large shares in the business is somehow considered as the owner.... What then happen to the other shareholder interms of diffult by a single person... especially this obi case.. mind you a lot of people aside politicians feels asset declaration is for assets privately own, be it property or business. Just like having a pension account.. alot of people will not declare such and this is a contribution to be given to you in future. There businesses running in Nigeria that you and I don't know the owners... There should be a data of owners of every business operating in Nigeria... Be it private or public. There are so many politicians in Nigeria that has hidden businesses across the globe

Is he to declare or his wife and children, since he transferred ownership to them?
Does the mou meant that his wife and children are very different from him?
The Man talked about international business principles; I think he knows better.
Check his CV.

He did not transfer ownership. Joint ownership means they own it together. But truth is what are you owning together with your kids except what you are planning to leave for them?
Every registered company has a Share Capital. The Shares of the company are distributed among the owners.
Any person seeking public office in Nigeria and of course most countries of the world required by law to declare your assets.
The idea is to know your worth, how you come about it and your interests so as to prevent corruption and corrupt practises.

Family members?

So it wasn't solely owned by him. What are you arguing?

Or has family members transcend to Peter Obi

He failed to declare those assets he claimed are jointly owned. He feigns ignorance for it.

My point is, it is wrong.
And that it even turned out that those joint owners were his wife and kids meaning he actually brought into those assets and not some different persons who invested with him and having control over those assets.

How do I school you the meaning of money laundering when you don't even know the difference between laundry and laundering.

Gov Obi is right, he broke no UK law/s. Naija is another story.

”According to him, the publication did not also allege that he had been engaged in unlawful business ventures at any time whatsoever, adding that his understanding was that the allegation bordered more on tax avoidance and non-declaration of some jointly owned assets.”

See the nonsense Obi Pandora is saying. He even admit non-declaration of some jointly owned assets lol. If Nigeria is a working country, they should have invited the man by now to now tell the law when they start accepting ignorance.

You were also operating a foreign account while being an elected government. Rubbish and nonsense.

Please do not display this kind of ignorance.

“He even admit non-declaration of some jointly owned assets”. Even if you do not understand what it is you can just be reasonable to understand the words “jointly owned assets”. If it be so it is common sense that since those assets are not owned by him alone, there must be some privacy in the matter which involves other people. If you own assets with Mr. A and Mr. A has issues, would it make sense if he declares all that you own?

Now aside from that have you had that Peter Obi had any issue with the code of conduct bureau? Have you had of any issue with him and the police of the EFCC regarding finances either as a private citizen or public citizen?

Do not join others, without adequate evidence, to disparage people.

Read this:

Until there is a law prohibiting a Nigerian from investing outside the shores of Nigeria, Peter Obi cannot be said to have committed the offence of tax evasion or any other tax offence(s), however so called.

On the issue of non-declaration of jointly or partly owned foreign asset: the law which addresses this subject is majorly the constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.Section 11 (1) (b) Part I Fifth Schedule to the Constitution Adebayo referred to requires a public officer to declare his properties, assets, and liabilities. The said provision did not specifically require the declaration of jointly or partly owned assets. It is appreciated that a public officer is required to declare his assets in view of the public trust reposed in the office they occupy. It would be irrational to expose assets that are partly owned by other individuals, when they are not the ones occupying the public office in question. Some business investors actually prefer to invest quietly, hence, a declaration of their jointly owned assets breach that business trust which they expect from their business partners. The otherwise could amount to a breach of the right to privacy and quiet enjoyment of the property of these persons.

Cheers.

Oga, the people who wrote the article also said you broke no law.
-you tried to hide assets
-you engaged in tax avoidance
-if the tax avoidance is pursued, terrible things could be found out.

Forget a progression of your political career meanwhile and tidy up your books.

You have said the main objective of the shady publication. You guys should not worry as he has not even said he would contest.

Wonderful, so I should declare my part of asset if I co owned company A with 3 other people.

The constitution didn't make provision for such.

Reason properly next time.
Stop capping with ur sentiments and think; premium times quoted the exact constitution and how what u own whether solely or co owned is declared; and on this case he OWNED IT SOLELY.

Look brah, tax avoidance is way different from tax evasion and not bad at all. The world's richest men avoid tax incase you don't know.

Don't pay tax off you don't have to - Financial Ed. 101
Bro I know the difference between tax avoidance and evasion. Like you said its 101 fin Ed. But no public servant nor hopeful comes to brag about tax avoidance coz its a liability. Just think about it! Tax is for public use, if you avoid then another pays it. Where is the moral to work to generate tax and you are actively avoiding it. Only capitalist/private sector can brag about that. Reason why it was a liability to DTrump. BTW DTrump is even way better as this is PO shielding his wealth from being assessed for tax purpose - that's fraudulent, Even in Nigeria! He should have kept quiet.

If he declares jointly own assets, he will get sued by his closet partners. Please let's me sensible

That is totally false! The essence of asset declaration is to, in fact declare jointly owned asset and investment where you have a beneficiary interest (which may not be even jointly owned). Think about it! How many people steal and keep the proceed in their account or company? Commonsense. You might want to check the CCB code.
But we all fill asset declaration forms in our offices and know that your statement is wrong.

The same way children of perdition are always desperate to tarnish Tinubu's image. Just because Tinubu contributed immensely in send packing GEJ, they hate him with passion. Nonsense
