I found this from the list of one of my old posts here and I thought I would share with those of you that are not sure how to get emergency appointment:

HOW TO REQUEST FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT

NOTE: Emergency appointments are mostly approved for students who are requesting within 60 days of their program start date (program start date is on your I-20). So, make sure you you are applying within that 60 days. But if it is beyond that at the moment, relax; don't let others' approval news push you to request before the required period or you may limit your visa lifetime and be forced to pay another visa fee if you didn't get a suitable date later.

To proceed

1, Pay visa fee, SEVIS fee, and at least, start your DS-160 FORM and have the application Number; according to the U.S embassy site, you are encouraged to complete it.

2, Create your CGI profile and fill in the details.

3. Proceed by booking any available date you see, even if the current available appointment date is 2024, book it (Schedule an appointment online for the earliest available date. Please note that you must schedule an appointment before you can request an expedited date. At the time you schedule your appointment, you will see an onscreen message showing the earliest available appointment date, which includes emergency appointments--from the US embassy site).

4, Once you are done, return to your landing page and you will see "Emergency Request." Click that and read the details on the page that loads. Once you are done, Click Here at the bottom of that page.

5, On the Emergency Request page, Fill in your tentative date. Then type your reason for requesting emergency appointment. This is a constructive message explaining that you did not see a suitable date that works for your program start date as stated on the I-20 and so, you need an interview appointment date before your program start date.

6, Since you have paid the fees mentioned in step 1, upload the pdf document in the file section below the box you type your message. Remember, your SEVIS fee payment confirmation, I20. You may attach a third document such as assistantship letter or admission letter, but this is not required.

The embassy usually reply within 3 days.
Read more about Emergency appointment request from the U.S embassy's designated page for it:

https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-emergencyappointment.html

Remember, getting a visa is not just about getting an admission and a date. Put in the effort to prepare for your interview; show confidence, speak up, let the consular feel energy in your voice. You have invested money, time, and other resources to come this far, the interview is the last phase to getting the visa. Give it your best. Do not go to embassy not knowing why you pick your school, your course, and what you want to do with the degree after graduation. If your appearance at the embassy this time is your chance to finally get the visa, please prepare. Let your preparation meets the opportunity!

All the best!

OLD POST, YOU MAY FIND IT USEFUL!

fairheart:
DON'T COPY OTHERS' INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT.

This can be one of the potential causes of your refusal if you don't take it.
No matter how sweet or good an interview transcript posted here looks, please don't copy it. Create your own proposed interview transcript.
I am receiving information that more Nigerians are applying for the F1 visa than ever before. I guess this is due to the economic woes and population boom. Note that the more applicants there is in the pool, the more selective the approval will be. By this I mean if 200 students apply, the consular will sort through their interviews to approval students they deem credible or say something reasonable and with better profile.

Yes, there's a room for favour and grace of God, but note that you are still required to do your own home work.
I always say this: craft your response according to your academic profile, research interest, course, scholarship and based on your career objectives. Use your own words to create your own answers.

The interview is a pitch to convince the consular. Nothing more. A pitch is a short conversation you have with someone you are communicating an idea/views/answers to. What makes you convince this person and win their approval is your choice of words, how you say it, the tone by which you say it, and based on your profile. You see, it is straightforward.

Do not copy people's transcript or you will be limiting your chances of approval and that of other people doing copycat on this thread. Whatever is personal is always unique, and what is unique will be recognized from the crown of over 200 applicants that troop to the U.S embassies.

Imagine 5 applicants interviewed by the same VO within 2 days saying same line of word, for example, "Aside the fact that..." or "I have had no reason to travel before..." I am sure such VO would find it boring when the 6th applicant say the same thing. But what happened to saying, "More so", "Also", "In addition", "Although I receive...", OR "I have never been outside Nigeria", "I have not travelled outside Nigeria before", "I have been in Nigeria all my life", etc.

I understand that some of you here have never been grilled before, especially talking with a Westerner face-to-face on a visa application you have spent close to 500K or more, and that is why you must understand that you need to be constructive and do it well.

The interview is the most important aspect of the entire application. You may get admission from 100 schools, but if you say rubbish during interview or you let fear paralyse you, it won't matter how many school admitted you.

Take these instructions to heart and use it to work on your answers. To avoid unnecessary message request in my inbox (except for special cases or people who need personal advise), use the questions below to prepare yourself.

CONSULAR: Pass Your Passport and i-20 Please
CONSULAR: Why Are You Going to the US?
CONSULAR: Why the US?
CONSULAR: How Did You Get This School? / How Did You Hear About This School?
CONSULAR: How Many Schools Did You Apply To?
CONSULAR: What Do All These Schools Have in Common?
CONSULAR: Why Did You Choose this School?
CONSULAR: Tell Me About Your Academic Background?
CONSULAR: Why Do You Need this Masters? / What Will this degree do for you? /What is the relationship between this program and what you do at the moment?
CONSULAR: What are those courses you’ll be taking/ Tell me about your program/What is your study plan?
CONSULAR: Did You Write Any Standardized Test?
CONSULAR: Are you married?
CONSULAR: Have You Travelled Before?
CONSULAR: Who Is Paying For This? / Who Is Sponsoring You?
CONSULAR: What Does Your Sponsor Do?
CONSULAR: How Many siblings do you have
CONSULAR: What are your career plans / What is your plan after graduation?

The questions above are for preparatory purposes only. I am not saying the consular will ask you the questions as listed; you may be surprised; you may even be asked what is not on the list. It is case by case. But remember, if you know you will be interviewed, and you know what the interview would be about, you would likely want prepare to convince the interviewer that you are a credible student and that you have done your home work and that your reason for wanting to go to the United States for studies is genuine!

Please tell your truth, always. Be consistent with your answers. Do not nurse fears of what if I am refused, or else, your confidence will be smoldered. You can be refused and that is perfectly okay as there's opportunity for reapplication.

All the best!

I think you can try it, then let's know what the outcome is. Some fall applicants sent their EA in may and they were approved. They didn't wait till 60 days to program start date

Please is anyone having issues with their bank statement for admission into western Illinois university.
I have submitted my bank statement (UBA) yet they require a statement that has a bank officer's Name and phone number.
The bank has said that they do not give statements like this but the school keeps saying they have received multiple letters with their requested format.

I am seriously confused because the deadline for submission is tomorrow.

Please assist me if you are having same issue.

I was able to get a near date because I referred my admission which was supposed to be in August to spring admission I already had an October appointment then. That was the initial reason for deferring it. Course of study is Masters in Law.

I guess the VO saw something he was not pleased with in your ds-160 because with the information you gave, there is nothing that should have caused a denial.

which institution in Nigeria did you acquire your Law and philosophy degree from, what will master in law do for your career when you return to Nigeria... Are you married or single? Since he didn't ask for your documents, I'm also guessing you were nervous, you see those consulate officers ehn, they are absolute psychologist....they are the real witches and wizards, they read peoples mind like village people....
