Now read the first paragraph of your own comment and tell me how articulate it is. I bet you didnt see your own error before clicking submit button.
Maybe; and then again, maybe not. Like typing "demand" as against "demanding", but antecedence/ antecedent post history tells. So one can tell which is a typographical error or not.
I have always been articulate, stringing words like a master wordsmith.

People who use "Am" in place of "I am" or "I'm" use it habitually because they are ignorant.

Or like you typing "didnt" as against "didn't" because you are poor at punctuations. Yes, I also did check your post history and it's replete with a gazillion grammar errors. If a job requires you being articulate, certainly you wouldn't be taken.

Also, it's "...before clicking the submit button", not "...before clicking submit button". You should learn how to use grammar articles.

The story in the OP is so silly that it's actually funny.

Someone was told to write an essay on any trending topic which denotes that it's not a formal-type writing.

And even if it were to be an official/formal writeup, there's still no sense whatsoever in losing a candidate who was qualified (did well in the aptitude tests according to the OP) over that error.

I simply don't see any reason why the OP should present her boss like some sort of grammatical genius through the narrative.
If anything at all, he seems like someone who takes himself way too seriously.

An internship applicant for that matter.
How much was he gonna pay the young man in the first place I wonder.

I totally disagree with this.

I converse a lot with native English speakers in multiple cross functional roles. If i had a dollar for every mistake or typos lots make , i would be a millionaire.

It is only in Nigeria we carry English on top of our head like Ijebu garri. They are interns and mostly fresh out of school or someone learning a new skill in a work environment. The threshold of capabilities for such team members is always set extremely low and showing up and showing a will to learn should be more than enough to grant you a sit.

They just lost a talent because of their irrational thinking. I am so glad for the young man. The OP should please even send me the details of the guy. I would hook him up to something far better than wherever he is coming from.
Morning sir, I will be so glad if you can also hook me up for any job/intern appointment

In an Official correspondence, both AM and I'M are wrong, it is supposed 2 be I AM. So now how does ur boss punish himself 4 even saying I'M instead of I AM

Elon is an entrepreneur... Answers to no boss. He can afford to make any mistake... But for those looking up to a boss, mistakes aren't tolerated. That's the difference between entrepreneurs and potential employees.
Rather Elon Musk will employ a person to do that role for him, not forcing high English perfectionist on interns

Although the boss is an ass, I understand his frustration. I even see self-acclaimed graduates using AM instead of I'M. It's annoying most times.

Am is used by black Americans, if you've stayed or listened to them speak you'd understand this. Social media has no effect on this.
Social media is responsible because even in the black community you still have learned people that use the words correctly.

The most important thing here for me is communication, & you understood what the guy wrote. Note that English is the white man's language, also I'm not sure if the guy study English as a course in school. Therefore I can boldly say that your boss is wrong . This is a simple error that can be easily corrected.

What about the use of "of" instead of "have" by some British people?
Re: My Boss Dropped An Internship Applicant Because Of This by Oyiboman69: 9:09am On Oct 17, 2021
Some people cannot communicate without "am am am" everywhere. He was probably a chronic "am" user and may have gotten carried away, forgetting he was writing an essay and not a Whatsapp text to his friend.

It's a Tweet. He can be as informal as he wants in a Tweet. I'm sure when he writes an email, a business letter, or any professionally-written communication, he uses "I'm".
and you think American and the world cares?...you can also spot some errors from the intellectual ones,I think we over do things in this part of the world and,its obvious you're saying this cos he's rich....

Sincerely speaking, getting a text from anyone at all that has "am" instead of " i'm" ruins my day automatically. I can excuse you for any other grammatical error but that.

Your boss have to understand that the applicants were under exam condition. Besides, the job is internship so there is room for improvement during the 1 year in your firm.

1 Incorrect noun number

1 Pronoun use

2 Punctuation in compound/complex sentences

1 Misuse of quotation marks.

2 Word choices

1 Passive voice misuse

1 Wordy sentence

Don't thank me.

You didn't put 'full stops' at the end of your sentences.

I didn't claim to be a grammar guru, that was you. I work in the media and i know the impact of making spelling and grammar errors, could embarrass you, your media outfit or even get you fired. However, on platforms like this, i could careless.
I didn't point out your mistake cause i am perfect, i did so you could see anyone can make mistakes. The intern applicant in question could have made the mistake cause of pressure.

And don't come to faceless forums like Nairaland and talk about people like you know them and their abilities, there is nothing smart about that.

People get to emotional about certain things. It's the man job and it's choice.
I don't employ people who their first name and last name is English or non native. I don't also employ people who can't speak their native language. Na the man job, na him choice.

Nobody takes a decision on just one tiny lexical error. But if he kept using "Am" in place of "I am" and "I'm" in the essay he was asked to write, then it's not a mistake - he can't write. Simple as that.

Ever considered why they were being tested for their lexical aptitude? It's because the skill is very important to their relevance in the firm.

And don't come to faceless forums like Nairaland and talk about people like you know them and their abilities, there is nothing smart about that.

There are 8 billion people in the world. Nobody has the time to look into your story. You'd always be judged the way you present yourself. If you present yourself as dyslexic, that's the way you'd be judged.

You can be a brilliant engineer and have poor lexical skills. If the job requires lexical efficiency, you don't deserve the job.

There's nothing smart about asking random people to understand you. If you want to be treated like you expect, present yourself like you expect to be treated. smiley

U are simply deviating from what I clearly stated to what is in ur mind. I have no business what what u are saying and going on about as that was not what I mentioned in my initial statement which ure twist to whatever u have in ur mind.

What I said is use of Am and I’m in formal or casual setting. Is any of these abbreviation or short hand?? Or did I state I’m critical about abbreviations or shorthand?? undecided what’s my business with this unnecessary line of argument?

If u want to go into another argument finish the one u jumped into then bring up whichever that suits u if I’m interested I can oblige. I don’t go in unnecessary arguments I clearly didn’t make a any initial statement on.

You are correct.
But what I was implying right from the onset was that,if you could be critical about the use "Am" and "I'm" then, you should also be critical about the use of shorthand as they are both erroneous.

It doesn't have to be an argument,I am only stating my opinion.

You can get disqualified for being over qualified.
. hahahaha ...your last sentence got me laughing hard ... ..I have had to reduce my university grade to a lower grade just to secure a job ...I don't know why most employers in Nigeria are so scared of over qualified candidates.....

I bet you've not met those that will ignore your other mistakes but go berserk when they see anyone use 'am' instead of 'i am'

First comment i saw, you judged someone that made a mistake while you made a mistake yourself. Going by what you just said, your so called writing ability is 'bulls**t cause who cares about your abilities. Going by your first comment, you are all you judged me and the intern guy to be. You could make an excuse for yourself but can't for others. You are not better than the rest of us, you just believe in your own 'garbage'.

Ok I understand ur point and yes I’m personally critical about use of Am and I’m bt No I’m not critical of shorthand in informal settings. Is it erroneous I don’t think so cos short hand for informal settings is widely acceptable and doesn’t follow proper English spellings.

I also don’t have issues with slangs or pidgin in informal settings.

U also need to understand slangs, pidgin abbreviation or shorthand don’t easy get mixed or confused into formal English settings unlike intentional wrong grammar.

To me intentional wrong English grammar is worse than shorthand, pidgin, abbreviations which have totally different conventions.

For instance if u say “I talk am”

I know “am” here is pidgin.

Unlike “Am going home” which we all know is English grammar done wrongly,
