Man is made up of God's spirit +dust of the earth. So the "US" referred to in Genesis 1:26 is God and the earth.

Humans where endowed with freedom of choice. Because we come fitted with a brain. Just that some people have suspended 5he use of their own to believe absurdities. Spirit don't have that luxury.they are immaterial beings.
