The picture is from early 20th century (after Amalgamation).
By then, Igbo businessmen have started developing estates in Lagos

By the way, I never knew we would get to a level when Yorubas will start celebrating what the white men built as theirs.

Lol. These people are more Shameless than I thought

@ the bolded your comment is enough to set a whole forest ablaze.

You should never have sounded childish and tribalist.
undecided undecided when did it become crime to celebrate ones heritage, this same apply to Yoruba guys who see things through ethnic lenses. Funny enough, that doesn't change the whitemen perspective as regards Africa. We are all still tie to the rung of Primitive and barbaric race. Till today even after years of contact that view still persists.

Yoruba should glory in their empire.

The Ibos should celebrate the culture handed down to them by their forebears.

What is all this na?.
Why are you giving these people attention?.
Eni ti o ni iru eni, ko le mo iyi eni.
You want them to detail this thread?.

Thank you jare Omoluabi. They like to show bravado over nothing. The Nri kingdom he's talking about, I read about it a long time ago. Some of us will keep quiet here like we no sabi anything, they don't know we're just being modest. The majority of the slaves they took to the Caribbean in the 17th century are their ancestors. They'd come here be forming warriors as if there's anyone the whites didn't subdue.

Compare the Igbo house below with what your white Lords dashed you.

You know I can't say "compare with your own architecture" because you don't build.
You even have a adage that you build houses in a day. Palm frond tatches is what you call houses.
Lol, this is the funniest comment from you. Can you see a yoruba man building with compound below in the pix. Can you compare this your so called house to this?

Note, this was before contact with the European or any colonial whatever.

You wish you are Igbo for you to be vomiting such nonsense.
Any proof? No.

Now let's look at the Yoruba savages/cannibals roaming around Nigeria.
During Endsars, didn't you Yoruba cannibals roast and eat a police officer at Oyo?

Lets take a look at the crime section where your people harvest each other as culture deems fit. In Yoruba land there is a sect known as harvesters that harvest other yoruba people they plant like crops for body parts.
Do we need to take about the skull miners of Ogun and Osun? Those that made us understand that there is a difference between dry skull and wet skull.

As a Yoruba person, you don't need to talk when civilised people like Igbo talk. You guys are the living example of Savagery and Cannibalism.
People that eat human heart like the family of Ogun.

Why are you people scared of staying alone? Because you know that without interference of other great nations like Ndigbo, you will harvest each other to extinction.

Know your place, my dear black Barbarian
Hian, you mean in your mind, that is where I wish to be igbo hahahaha.

I see Americans, I never wished to be them
I see european, I never wished to be them

It is one savage race that enjoy feasting on human flesh and also drink the water used to wash corpse that I will wish to be.

Tell me, which sane human will wish to be a human eater hahahahaha.

I can't be slave, no one on planet earth will wish to be your savage race. Human eating race are not to be reckon with.

Not even a race that uses their fellow tribesmen as sacrifice to a worthless god and even tagged them OSU.

Correction:

1)There was a Benin empire, as shown in the precolonial map below. (The Mao is from Gallica website).
2) there was no oyo empire, indeed.
3) I don't think it is even reasonable at this point to dispute the existence of Benin empire, with all the media attention around Benin bronzes even toddlers today know that there was a Benin empire.

https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8595583b.r=Benin?rk=150215;2
4) it is due to the existence of Benin empire that the Oba of Benin had a trade monopole in the region, which was one of the reasons the British went to war against Benin. Also the bight if Benin git itS name from an empire called Benin.

You get time explaining things to that guy, ignore him abeg.

Ago-Oja was the hometown of the mother of Prince Atiba, one of the great-grandsons of Alaafin Abiodun ( his other well known descendants were Oluyole in Ibadan and Afonja in Ilorin).

It was Atiba that moved the Capital down south to his mother's home town (Ago-Oja) and renamed it the new Oyo.

LOL.

Ago was founded by Oja, a friend and contemporary of Atiba.
How is the mother of Atiba from a town founded by his son's contemporary?

truthCoder:

You dont know your history.

I am not tribal but facts are facts. The first signs of european civilization first reached benin city then the yoruba coastal towns and the calabars at least one hundred years before the igbos.

Benin was 15th century, yorubas were 16th century, Igbos were 17th century.

Prove me wrong and share any verifiable work to support your claims.

All these however does not matter because our forefathers all messed up by having these stupid tribal wars (which you are also boiling for). The europeans used our discord to conquer us.

Your local tribe does not matter in the scheme of things. You can be igbo, hausa or yoruba for all you wish, no one in the world cares. They see the whole bunch of us as Africans.

Rise up from that petty thinking mind set and stop the tribal hate.

This is just probably stupid really.

I tried not to comment on this thread since y'all turned it into a mudslinging fest out of stupid envy, but I couldn't overlook this.

You build estates in other regions but your homeland is so bad y'all are running out of there like rats from a burning building.

Mention just one kingdom your ancestors built that was mentioned anywhere in history books.

As in post a picture of one palace from the 19th century from Iboland.

Because I don't even know what you are comparing.

The other day we saw the bronze rooster that was about to be returned to the Bini kingdom, pronto some clueless Ibos were claiming it was theirs because of the name.

What are the proofs that showed you had a civilization before the advent of the white man?

We've seen Bini bronze, we've seen Ife bronze heads.

We've seen relics from the great Oyo empire.

We've seen the great relics in Ife, the staff of Oranmiyan.

We've seen the Ijebu and Egba moat, Eredo probably built by Bilikisu Sungbo, a structure that rivals the great wall of China, according to foreign archaeologists.

We've had wars fought with cannons (first in West Africa, maybe even Africa as a whole) in the 19th century.

Great kingdoms and empires fight wars all the time. Mention one war, apart from the Biafrans war you fought and lost, that your people actually have engaged in that separated your forebears from weaklings and placed them among the ranks of warriors. And puhleeezze don't even mention "Aba women's riot".

We've seen the evidences of Yoruba trade with the Portuguese.

When will the British begin to return artifacts stolen from Ibos? Unless of course there was none to steal.

Apart from the "we are the wandering and lost Jews of Africa" where do you as a people trace your history from? Please don't say Israel.

No kingdoms, just hamlets and villages dotting the landscape and you think you can compare? For real?

Why do you think your region is so tiny?

In my experience, villages and hamlets don't take up much space, especially when you compare with kingdoms and empires and city-states.

One thing about Architecture is that it is unique to a particular people and it evolves with them as time goes on. A typical Igbo house is demarcated with walls and as such have compounds that some tatch the wall. Look at houses in SE.

A typical Yoruba house on the other hand, have no business with walls. Look at the contemporary houses in SW. So you people are now telling me that prior to your full contact with Ndigbo, you built exactly Igbo houses with walled compound while your Alaafin is living in an unwalled house.

You know one thing I like about you, it is the way you are dribbling and distracting yourself and your ancestors here hahahahaha

Is that not how one of you stole otunba basorun's mansion as a igbo man mansion until I burst his bubble.

All these your epistle can't save you cave livers.

Do the people in that picture look igbo to you,do you wear clothes in those days hahahaha.

Does the roof even the same, is there tree in the compound I posted hahaha, just cos he saw goat he want to steal a yoruba home hahahahaha.

Stop disgracing your ancestors here. grin

LOL. Still can't dispute the fact that you stole an Igbo house and tried to pass it as yours.

Shameless people. Your people have no business with walls. Just look at Ibadan. How many houses have walls there?

Now, take a look at one Igbo man's house that blew the underwear the whites were wearing then out of their buttocks.
Can you see the perfect Wall and compound.
That is God's will on Earth. And he is not a king but an ordinary Farmer like many Ndigbo in the Holy land of Igboland.
Can your Alaafin Palace come close to it?

God really created Ndigbo to make up for the mistake he made while creating you blacks.

You are right jare my OSU cannibal neighbor.

No house ha wall in ibadan, no mind those yorubas.

Just that it is always difficult for mr chukwudi, aunty chioma, ucle emeka to leave a Wall less ibadan to live in a gold wall in arochukwu hahahaha.

Eve the skyscraper which is lacking in igboland has no wall kikikikikiki.

Hahahahaha, see white kikikikikiki.

No wonder your race is so inferior to keep attaching to others up n down. How can people that God created special be doing attachee by force.

You do attachee with Israel, you were rejected outrightly

You do attachee with South southerners, you were quickly rejected.

I spit on your race for being shameless.

Spit.

Wait o, who even told you it was God that created your tribe, or you mean your useless gods that you sacrifice some of yourselves to cheesy.

Ukpuru lasan lasan.

Let me translate it for you. I don’t know ami ohun much like that which explained why you might not understand it well. Also, I used a proper Oyo dialect.

—Oyo Alaafin (Oyo, the descendant of the Alaafin)
—Ojo pa sekere omo atiba (Rain must not beat sekere, Son of Atiba)
—Oyo nipe kolowo ko gbowo (Oyo said the creditor should collect his money)
—Oni koni iwofa gba tire (He also went to tell the debtor (Iwofa - a system where people use their family as collateral to borrow money) not to pay his debt)
—Ase kole ba di’ja, ko le ba daapon (Not knowing that the reason why Oyo did this is so that fight can happen)
—Komo oba le ri ‘n muje (So the prince can eat)
—Oyo gbin agbado oran seyinkule elenkule (Oyo planted a wicked mystery maize/corn of trouble at another man's backyard)
—Elenkule o gbodo faatu, be ni ko si gbodo faaya (The owner must not uproot it, and he must not shred it)
__Omo iku, tiku kogbódò pa
(child of death who death cannot kill)
----Omo Arun, tarun kogbódò see
(child of pestilence who cannot be tied down by sickness)
----Omo Ofo, tofo kogbódò see(child of calamity whom calamity can't afflict )

All this eulogy of Oyo is just showing the empire might. Imagine planting a corn/maize of trouble at the back of one’s compound and telling him not to uproot it nor shred it. Like you’re showing your might and power over them.

Classical evidence of Hegemony theory. OYO empire at its zenith by then. The most prominent empire Empire in Nigeria.

@Legendhero confirm Omo'Odua. Well done baba.

Exactly, that's the Point, and here's a mere buttress to it...

That's same Chessy formation at play here; The Kingdom was guarded by the Rooks (right and left), King, Queen, the Knight (Guards), & the visiting Missionaries would be on the first rank, and that's the E2 Pawn on the 2nd rank... undecided grin

This is another confirmation that Chess explains many things about humanity just as earlier hypothesized by Jawolusy few days ago via this #ThroneGameChess & #ChessOfNature.

Lest I forget, the beauty of the Yoruba ethnicity is in its epic culture, moral ethics, and traditions.

The Alafin's are not called " iku baba yeye for the fun of it. grin cheesy cheesy.
They hardly speak because their word is a law.
Those who misbehave in their presence, or even behind them hardly lives to tell the story, hence the saying " aroba fin l'oba npa ".
The Alafin's are also called deities, read about Alafin Orompoto, a woman who became an Alafin against all odds cheesy cheesy cheesy.

Correct but does this indicate they've become their father's father?
No, it's just what it is. They are greater than their fathers.
