"No", I said firmly to her offer of joining her on that thing to journey the underworld. Can't blame me, almost 90% of all road accidents are motorbike related and I want about to risk my life to verify if the stats were true. This is one stat I'm ready to swallow, hook, line and sinker.

"Alright ", she shrugged unperturbed. "Suit yourself. I'm just going on a little harmless joyride".

"Yeah, to the underworld", I scoffed, folding my arms.

"You probably right", she smirked.

"That's not funny. Don't joke with death".

"You're the one that made the joke about death", she said.

"Do you even have a license to ride that thing?" I demanded.

"I have a driver's license"

"A driver's license and a motorbike license are not the same thing and I'm pretty sure you're aware of that".

"I know how to ride it, so who cares?"

"Law enforcers?"

"Nothing a few bucks can't fix. Its Nigeria duhh", she said rolling her eyes. "Wait, do you ever uncomfortable with that stuck up your ass?" She arched an eyebrow.

I gave an unimpressed look. "Funny"

"I mean it. You take things way too seriously".

"What, you mean the law? My life?"

"Learn to live a little. Be spontaneous. You just might end up enjoying your life for once".

"Oh please, I enjoy my life immensely", I folded my arms across my chest.
"And I'd like to continue it by not killing myself on that death trap".

"Don't be a p****y", she patted the space behind her on the seat. "Cmon, get on here right on. I'm not going to ask you again and be rest assured, I'll never forgive you again. Now hurry up and make a decision before the security alerts Joy that I'm on my dad's motorbike and she starts acting hysterical".

I paused for a long while and after a deep breath, I made my way over to the bike.

"I'm to regret this", I muttered, climbing behind her.
"I know I'm going to regret this. Is it a talent? Getting people to do what you want?"

"A talent, skill, super power", she shrugged, turning the key in the ignition to start up the engine and kicked up the kickstand.
"I have a way with words, what can I say? Put your arms around me unless you want to fall and crack your head on the concrete, which would be kinda funny initially", she joked as she revved the demon. I feel her smirking as I snaked my arms round her tummy.

"Mia!", I snapped. "Just shut up. I'm nervous enough as it is and speaking of cracking skulls open, shouldn't we have helmets on?"

"It much better this way", she said, easing out. "More chilly."

"Its also the more likely way to get us killed", I said sounding overly anxious.
"You know what? Never mind, I don't want to do this."

"Such a cry baby", she sneered, as she circled the round extravagant fountain in the driveway before heading out through the gates. "Don't worry. I ride this thing all the time. I know what I'm doing."

"That doesn't make me feel any better", I muttered. "No speeding okay? Take it slow."

"Um, yeah sure", she affirmed with a nod just before she hit the streets and started speeding off.

"Mia!" I yelled over the wind, my arms instinctively tightening round her tummy. "I said slow!"

"Speed it up? She asked, feigning deaf. "Okay!"

She revved the engine and plunged down the road with even greater speed than before, letting out a shout of joy. I grimaced as the Lagos wind hit my face hard.

Eventually she had to slow down and come to a complete stop at a red light. She glanced over her shoulder at me, combing the hair out of her face.

"You good?" She asked with an amused expression.

"I think I'm going to throw up", I replied sounding queasy.

"Well don't do it on me. Even even a spittle gets on this Burberry top, I'll strangle you to death."

"Are you trying to kill us?", I snapped, gaining back a bit of myself.

"I'm not going to kill us. How many do I gotta tell you that I'm a very skilled driver?", she rolled her eyes and then patted my arm. "Don't worry."

"Dont worry? You're not even going the speed limit!" He exclaimed. "If you don't cause our brains to flood out on the road, you're going get the police to pull us over."

"We are on a motorcycle", she shrugged. "The speed limits for bikes and cars aren't the same."

"Wha--that doesn't--that's not even close to being tru-"

The red light changed to green and she sped off once more, cutting me off abruptly.

We spent a bit more horrifying time on the road before she finally got us to our destination which looked like a bar. A bar?
She brought us to a freaking bar!

"You brought us to a bar?", I asked appalled as I took in where we were.

"Yeah, why?", she asked nonchalantly.

"We've still got school tomorrow?"

"So?", she said as she pushed open the door and we stepped into the bar.

N-joyment, as the bar was named so creatively named, was dimly lit and a bit suffocating considering its small space and the large population of customers-- most of them drunk-- entertained. It honestly wasn't the type of place I'd ever imagined seeing a girl like Mia.

She hopped on a wooden stool and smiled at a bartender, while I followed at a much slower pace.

"I'll have two vodka on the rocks", she informed the employee. "One for me and one for him", she pointed at me.

"I don't drink", he said.

"Well then, two for me"

"Hmm...madam Mia, where you carry this one come from? Man wey no dey drink", the bartender sneered and Mia laughed a little.

"Don't mind him, James. He's such a prude", she said and the two of them laughed.

"Like you know the meaning of prude", I scoffed and the bartender's expression changed.

"Bros you wan talk something?", he asked with a frown as he approached me intimidatingly. Maybe he thought I was an ajebo that would be scared easily because I was hanging out with Mia. I got up my stool, cracking my knuckles and exaggerating my buff build intimidatingly too.

"I talk say you no know the meaning of wetin she talk and you dey laugh", I said in pidgin with the best imitation of the warri accent I could muster.

He paused as he heard me speak and then he smiled and walked back to his spot.

"Bros, you calm down na. Relax yourself", he said as he went to get the drinks.

"You're such a bully", Mia punched my arm playfully smiling. "You totally scared him off." For the first time that evening, I smiled.

"So I take it you come here often", I stated, glancing at the bartender now mixing the drinks.

"Often enough", she replied, digging round for something in her Jean pockets. Probably money.

"This doesn't seem like a place where Mia Rotimi would hang out", I said looking around.

"Which is exactly why Mia Rotimi hangs out in it", she smoothed out a couple thousand naira notes and handed it over to James, the bartender. "You can keep the change."

His face broke into a full grin as he pushed the drinks to her and picked up the notes, waving them around. "This na why my body dey always sweet me anytime when you show for here. Thank you Ma", he thanked and frowned at me before he got back to his job of mixing cocktails.

Mia giggled as she went for a sip of her poison when I grabbed her hand, a look of disapproval on my face.

"What?", she asked trying to tug her hand away from my grip.

"I don't know comfortable I feel with the only person who knows how to drive the monster that brought us here, getting wasted", I said with a frown.

"So you admit I know how to drive the bike?" She grinned. I swear, she just picks out what she wants to hear and does away with the rest.

"Mia!"

"Relax I'm not going to get wasted. It's only two drinks."

"That's more than enough to affect your driving."

"I need a drink. I'm stressed out."

"From what?"

"Well, you for one are annoying the hell out of me."

I still stared at her in moving before she exhaled in what I assumed to be submission.

"Fine. I'll just drink one and have water in between", she motioned for James to hand me a water bottle. "But you have to drink the other one. I already paid for it and it would be a waste of money to just toss it."

"You toss money around like it means nothing to you anyway", I pointed out.

She slid the drink over to me and cracked open the water bottle that James gave her and took a sip. "True but still."

I picked up the drink and gave her a look. "You're not very good influence."

"I'm great influence. Its not my fault people are keen on going with suggestions I offer. Can't blame them though, it's impossible to ignore perfection." She downed the alcohol in one gulp and sighed in content.

"Is that drinking water in between?"

She gave me a slightly nasty look, but took a sip from the water bottle. She brought her hand up to her head and massaged her temple.

"You okay?", I asked after sometime, genuinely concerned.

"I already told you. I'm stressed out."

"Why?"

"Well, if you must know Nosy. I'm currently going through a crisis and you're the cause."

"Hey", I objected. "I thought we're past that. I apologized and I even risked my life by getting on that death trap to prove how sorry I am."

"Yeah. Stil doesn't make it hurt any less, you know. Look K, I've been one to mince words so I'm going to give it to you straight. After the times I've spent with you, I've come to grow fond of you which is why it hurt when you just discarded me like that even after I opened up to you just the night before. You know, for a moment I thought finally here's someone I can talk with without having to put up walls and then that happened. You've apologised and all but I just can't help but feel it would happen again especially since your friends don't like me."

"I'm really sorry Mia. I wasn't in my right mind then." I apologised.  "And my friends are great. You'll know when you get to know them. I guess they were just shocked seeing you in my house, seeing as I rarely have people over."

"Mmhmm", Mia nodded but in a way that suggested she didn't  believe me.

"What?", I asked.

"Nothing", she smiled and I knew there was definitely something.

"Cmon tell me now or I'll tickle you"

"Okay okay", she laughed when I made to tickle her. "Its just that I think you're full of crap, no offence."

I frowned in confusion. "How? What do you mean?"

"Okay", she started. "Like when you said you don't drink, its BS cause we first met in a club and you were definitely drinking then and the stuff about having people over, remember I reduced you from a chick hounding you that night? And it definitely looked like you guys had some history", she finished and reached for her water.

"Um...firstly, I was in the club that night to relieve myself from pains and about Shade--"

"Oh her name is Shade", Mia cut me off, smiling. She was definitely enjoying this.

"I said I rarely have people over which means I do have people over but not regularly", I stated.

"Okay", she smiled.

"So...we good now?", I asked as I turned to look at her.

"It depends", she said twirling the glass that contained her finished drink.

"On?"

"How long have been in love with Nonye?", she asked, looking at my stunned self. Nobody can tell me anything again, this girl is a witch.......TBC

Re: Unrequited by walewavy11: 12:36pm On Nov 10, 2021
I think it's okay this way, and you can start the next one in Mia's POV, that way we'd know how she feels about the question she's about to ask. So it's okay, you're good to continue. Anyway, thanks for the update and I hope you get your phone fixed soon and of course expecting more update. God bless.

A lot of people have told me that I tend to just say the first thing that comes to my mind without thinking and I liked that I was always direct and plan with my opinions, observations and convictions. A trait I was very proud of until now.
Honestly, I didn't know when I just blurted out that question. Sure, it'd been on my mind since the day it happened and let's face it, it's the main reason I'd been pretty mad but I didn't mean to ask about it now. A part of me wants to know the situation between them but then another part yearns for my suspicions to be very wrong.

"What are you talking about?", Dibz shifted uneasily, avoiding my eyes.

"I'm sorry. Just forget I said anything. I guess the vodka is beginning to affect me",  I lied.

"That's it, I'm ordering an uber", he said bringing out his phone. "I just knew drinking was a bad idea".

"Oh just relax. What's with this bike phobia anyway?", I asked. "There has to be more to this fear".

"I don't know", he shrugged as he paused from his phone abit and seemed to be in thought. "I guess it's just because my mum didn't like it too. She was always said it was dangerous and somehow I just grew up with that."

"Well, no offence but she's wrong. I've been riding that baby since my high school days I've never felt safer."

"I'm glad we're talking again", I blurted out again and I cringed. I didn't mean to say that, at least not out loud. Vodka is bad for my already outspoken nature. I mentally reminded myself to never drink around K. With these strange emotions I'm beginning to feel whenever I'm around him or think of him, I just might say things I'm not supposed to.

"What's the matter, why's your face like that?", he smiled. "Is it so much of a hassle for you to admit you like someone?"

"Wha...what...like who?", I stuttered.

"Well, you just said you are fond of me", he stated. "That basically means you like me."

"Not the same thing", I shot back and he sighed.

"Okay. Whatever helps you sleep at night."

"Whatever."

"So...what's up with you and Nonye?", he asked out of the blue. "Why do you guys hate each other?"

"Don't ask if you're not ready to talk about the situation between you two", I replied and he looked at me sharply.

"What?", he asked and I turned to him too. He can't just claim I like him and not expect me to get back at him.

"Mmhmm. Don't even deny it, it was and is still clearly written over you. I'm confused though, isn't she your best friend's girl?"

"You're talking nonsense", he muttered, looking away. "You should probably cut back on alcohol if you're a light weight."

"Yeah", I chuckled. "Blame it on the alcohol but deep down, you know I'm spitting facts. And if I noticed it, I bet she's noticed it too."

"Of course I like her", he shrugged. "She's one of my best friends."

"Mhmm", I nodded sarcastically. "Whatever helps you sleep at night", I said and smiled to myself that I got to use his own words against him. I guess I'm petty like that.

We pretty much remained in silence till the uber he ordered came and after much persuasion from him, the driver and even James, I agreed to leave the bike and come for it today. Not before threatening to rain havoc on James and even K if so much as a scratch dented it and worse if it got missing. The ride to my house was also in silence too. Each of us in our minds. He was probably thinking about Nonye and that didn't make me feel good in all ways. Beats me though cause I shouldn't care but strangely I do. I was also a bit worried that maybe I was a bit too harsh coming at him like that, forcing him to admit his seemingly unrequited love for his best friend's girlfriend. That's a secret you just throw at the person's face like that as if the internal struggle and shame they'd be going through isn't enough. I was worried he might be angry with me and decide to not be friends with me again. That's what I'd do.

'Not everyone is as vindictive as you' ,the voice in my head said to me.

"We're here", the uber driver said jolting me out of my thoughts.
We got down and K paid the driver before we walked slowly to the driveway where K's car was parked.

"Soo...", he drawled with hands in his pocket while he faced me. "Guess its goodnight, uh?"

"Y..yeah. Goodnight", I muttered softly. I wanted to apologise for this night but I just couldn't get the words out. I'd just open my mouth and close it and the way he was acting all cool about it wasn't helping matters too. I was expecting him to be cold towards me.

"Ok see you tomorrow or later", he smiled. "Take care", he said and got into his car. I slowly walked to the door and looked back his retreating car one more time. I was barely reaching for the door handle when he called me and swiftly I turned. I'm surprised I didn't snap my neck.

"I like you too", He said out loud and smiled.
With that he zoomed off leaving me feeling of kinds of things all at once. And they all felt good.....TBC

Please manage this short update, I'm trying. Honestly, don't know when the next update would come or if I'd cont to do long chapters again.....I properly fix this screen. Happy weekend.

I like the fact that Mia is really blunt, not all girls are.... I guess this trait will help their friendship. Thank you for the update, though it's short.... So when should we expect another update

"Say I go dey, I dey dey dey dey oya gbe", I sang and danced along to Wizkid's Anoti as I went up to my apartment in the elevator. I was in high spirits that night and all I needed to cap off this pleasant night was a good ol Wizkid jam. I get a lot of necessary criticisms and backlashes whenever I tell people Wiz is my fave musician and it always beats me cause it's an insanity that there's even a doubt about his greatness and genius. Well, I guess everybody's entitled to their opinions no matter how misguided they might seem.
Now if asked why I was in such high spirits, I wouldn't know. All I know is that this night was probably, one of the best nights of my life. Sure it started a bit roughly but it ended pretty nicely.
I swirled when Big Mood, another Wizkid hit started blasting through my airpods and boy, was I in a big mood tonight. In my state of excitement and swirling, one of airpods accidentally fell and as bent to reach for it, a hand already beat me to it. I raised my head up to look at the smiling face of a man, probably early to mid forties and good looking too. He looked quite familiar but I just couldn't put a finger to it.

"Um..good evening sir. Thank you", I greeted him as he handed the airpod to me.

"You're welcome", he replied. "My name is Richard, I'm your new neighbour."

"Oh", I said realizing he was the neighbour D talked about the last time. "You're welcome sir", I said as I accepted his gesture for a handshake. I guess he was a really private person as this the first I'd seen of him since D mentioned it or maybe I was just too preoccupied to notice I had a new neighbour.

"Thanks", he smiled. "You can just call me Richard or better still Richie instead of whole 'Sir' thing. Makes me feel old, you know", he joked.

"Um...I don't know about that sir", I started and he gave a dramatic sigh that caused me chuckle. "I was raised to always respect my elders."

"Okay okay, if you insist", he sighed. "Hope we can be friends though, maybe later you'd tell me what's or who's got you all hyped like this", he smiled and I smiled back. I don't know but something about him just made me smile all the time. I just feel this ease talking with him and it's crazy because we just met a few seconds ago. I guess some people just have this charismatic aura about them.

"Yeah, I'd like that too", I replied and we shook hands again and went our separate ways.

"Oh that reminds me", he called out after he'd gone a distance away from me. "There's the pretty girl waiting for you that your day. No wonder you're so happy, I'd be happy all time if I was coming home to that sort of beauty too", he said and continued to walk off to wherever he was going to before.

'Pretty girl? Waiting by my door?', I thought in confusion as I picked up pace. I was confused cause I just got back from Mia's so how is it possible already by my door?
As I turned to the corner that led to my led to my apartment, I spotted Nonye sitting on the floor by door, typing away on her phone. I paused a bit as a mild feeling of disappointment washed over me at the realisation that she was the wrong pretty girl I'd hoped was waiting for the me. I don't even know anymore. I took a deep breath I approached the beauty that held me spellbound all these years. She noticed someone was approaching and lifted her eyes from her phone to and quickly, she tore herself off the ground and ran into my arms as she started shedding tears. Without a doubt, I knew the source of her sorrow. Dayo must have gone through with his plan of breaking up with her.

"Oh K", she cried, wetting the crook of my neck with her tears. "Dayo called it quits with me, K. He's broken up with me."

I held her in my embrace with my left hand while my right hand gently patted her back. At that moment, nothing else mattered anymore, every other thing was forgotten. All that mattered was being here for Nonye and helping her get through it.

"Its ok..its ok. Everything is going to be alright." I whispered as she clung onto me so tight. Watching her so sorrowful like this, it felt like I was the one who just got his heart broken. If Dayo wasn't my brother and had had a good reason for this(or did he?) I'd have straight up marched down to his condo and given his ass a good beating for hurting Nonye like this.

"Come let's go inside", I said gently as I unlocked the door with my key card and led her inside.

"He said...he--he said he was doing it to..to..protect me and my family", she cried.
"But I don't want to be protected...I don't want to be protected", she cried the more.

"Its going to be alright, okay? I'm sure Dayo feels guilty and doesn't want you or your family to get caught up in his dad's mess. It's not because he doesn't love you", I tried to convince myself more than her. It all felt suspicious and premeditated but I wasn't to tell her that. Not when she's feeling like this.

"You know", she paused to sniff and then continued. "I feel its alot more than the scandal. I...I..I feel he's now tired of me and this his father's ish was just the perfect excuse. Lately, he's just become distant, not calling anymore, always forgetting our appointments, being absent minded when we're talking and so on. I mean I knew who D was before I asked out but...but I felt ours would be different", she said as tears poured out her eyes and my heart sank the more.
Here is the girl I'm crazy about, crying over another dude. I hated it whenever people made light of the privileges they're opportuned to have.

"Nonye, it's ok. Everything's going to be alright. Just stop crying please. Tomorrow I'll talk with Dayo about this."

"No", she shook her head. "I'm not going to beg him and neither will you. He'll be back, I know it. Sometimes people need to be apart to realise the importance and value of each other", she continued and then shifted closer to me and rested her head on my chest. And by default, I put my arm around her, giving her more space to lean into me while I stroked her hair soothingly.

We just sat there for quite some time, in each other's embrace surrounded by soothing silence, both of us deep in thoughts. I was thinking if Dayo had already broken up with Nonye, then he was definitely serious about the whole Mia thing.

An hour later, I stood to prepare something for us to eat. It was clear Nonye wasn't going back home that night as it was pretty late. I ran her a hot bath to freshen up while I set the table for dinner. She was abit more alive now. We even watched a rom com that really helped in doing away with the gloomy atmosphere that enveloped here earlier and I was glad she was more like herself again. It was just a bonus that I was the one that brought about the change in her attitude now.

"I'm feeling sleepy now", Nonye yawned. "Let's us go to bed."

"Oh okay. You stay in the bedroom while I use the couch."

"Nonsense. There's no way I'd let you sleep in the couch in your own house. Besides we can share the bed. It's big enough for the both of us."

"Um", I scratched the back of neck. "I don't know but the couch is fine for me though. Don't worry about me."

"Nada", she stubbornly refused as she grabbed my hand, dragging me to the bedroom.

"What's your problem? It's not like it's our first time of sharing a bed."
Some minutes, we were both on the bed, each person on a side of the bed. I just couldn't sleep. I was so conscious of myself. If it was possible to even hold my breath throughout the night I would have done that. I couldn't toss or turn in my restless state so as not to wake Nonye, so I just laid still, looking at the ceiling willing morning to come fast.

"You up?", Nonye asked softly with her back to me. I was surprised she was still awake.

"Mhmm", I hummed.

"Why?", she asked as she turned to look at me.

"You know I can ask you the same. Still thinking about Dayo?", I asked.

"Honestly", she began after a small sigh. "No. You did a good job of helping me feel better and I'm grateful K. Thank you", she said as she scooted over to give me a peck my cheek. I smiled at her as she withdrew slowly, staring at me intensely. And before I knew it, in one swift moment, she leaned in and kissed me full on the lips. She withdrew to stare at me with her lust filled eyes--which I'm dead sure was reflecting my own lust filled ones too-- and seeing as I didn't resist, she claimed my lips with hers again.

"Um..wait Nonye", I said as I weakly broke off the kiss. "We shouldn't."

"Why not? I know you want it too. The desire is all over you too", she whispered as she spun her arms around me and locked lips with me again......TBC

Your are right you know and though am rooting for MIA but she hasn't really made her feelings know to K. But I foresee her going all out for k. She is very lively and K be the quiet type definitely need MIA to always put him on edge. Though you haven't really talked more about Nonye personality and maybe we can get to like her for K.
