The notion that there will always be poverty and thus nothing should be done to curtail those who breed like rabbits is nonsensical - it is possible to seriously mitigate poverty so that it does not engulf 50% the population as it does in Nigeria. It is possible to raise living standards so that power, water and security are not luxury goods as they are for most Nigerians. When you do those things you will find that violent crime rates fall.
